Why do so many of those that over-drink have some kind of underlying trauma? Today's guest is Kelly Andrews - a trauma therapist with over 20 years of experience. She has worked with countless clients, battling with addictions in the search for sobriety or moderation. Kelly and Hame delve into why alcohol is often not the problem but a solution (an unhealthy and toxic one at that) to dealing with trauma. Why therapy and looking inwardly should be at the root of all sobriety and why it's important to remember that 'It's Not Your Fault' and 'They Weren't Right'.This was a fascinating conversation with a wise and wonderful psychotherapist who shared so much advice to help anyone battling any kind of addiction or trauma. YOU"RE NOT ALONE>>>Website: https://www.nami.org/HomePhone: NAMI HELPLINE 800-950-6264 or TEXT "helpline" to 62640In 2020, the nation took a significant step forward with the enactment of the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act, a bill NAMI advocated for that created a nationwide three-digit number (988) to assist people experiencing a mental health or suicidal crisis. This number is now available in communities across the country.NAMI recognizes that other organizations have drawn distinctions between what diagnoses are considered “mental health conditions” as opposed to “mental illnesses.” We intentionally use the terms “mental health conditions” and “mental illness/es” interchangeably.A mental illness is a condition that affects a person's thinking, feelings, behavior, or mood. These conditions deeply impact day-to-day living and may also affect the ability to relate to others. If you have — or think you might have — a mental illness, the first thing you must know is that you are not alone. Mental health conditions are far more common than you think, mainly because people don't like to, or are scared to, talk about them. However:1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year1 in 20 U.S. adults experience serious mental illness each year1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24A mental health condition isn't the result of one event. Research suggests multiple linking causes. Genetics, environment, and lifestyle influence whether someone develops a mental health condition. A stressful job or home life makes some people more susceptible, as do traumatic life events. Biochemical processes and circuits and basic brain structure may play a role, too.None of this means that you're broken or that you, or your family, did something “wrong.” Mental illness is no one's fault. And for many people, recovery — including meaningful roles in social life, school, and work — is possible, especially when you start treatment early and play a strong role in your own recovery process.THERE'S HELP & HOPE...
Do you know what Postpartum means? Postpartum depression also called PPD is a medical condition that many women get after having a baby. It's strong feelings of sadness, anxiety (worry) and tiredness that last for a long time after giving birth. It affects 1 in 7 women. In this episode Kayla is a young mom who had postpartum but didn't realize it after she had her second baby. She is so open and honest about the struggles she endured and why it was misdiagnosed. Imagine being Kayla and feeling anxiety /depression and not knowing why and how to fix it. Kayla was talking care of a toddler, working and trying to juggle so much while suffering from Postpartum. It's Not Your Fault! I had similar struggles after my second child too. It was hard to focus and I was constantly worrying! Stop the Stigma and let's talk about Postpartum Depression. No, more "good rich people" are not going to save the world. Not the least because the amount of money required to create systemic change (i.e. being a billionaire) seems to make one uninterested in systemic change... I wonder why? p.s. the real answer is community organizing: power and strength in numbers! The main problem with this idea is that if you try to massively redistribute wealth, at least in the USA the government will come down hard on you. For example, I once read that the Black Panthers were much more heavily targeted by the US government after they started providing large numbers of free meals to Black children. (p.s. the link there is to a generally good source, but I can't remember the book I read the actual idea in, unfortunately)This is also NOT an admonition not to become financially stable! I want more financial stability for all of us... but that doesn't require buying into shitty ideas. If you like the Mini episode format or have a topic idea, please say so here!Mentioned in Episode: Episode 10: Money & Surviving CapitalismEpisode 20: Poverty is Not Your Fault!Sam Pollack's Substack post "Conventional Marketing Ain't Workin' Anymore," and my take on itMy Book recommendation for Get Good With Money by Tiffany Aliche, and the direct link to the bookHow Trauma & CPTSD Cause UnderearningResources:Like Your Brain community spaceAuDHDFlourishing.comTranscript DocEmail Newsletter Hosted on Acast. Rather than teaching tactics that ignore or give surface attention to adverse childhood events, the book lovingly guides readers to explore the ways these events have impacted their lives and how this knowledge will help them access true transformation. Readers will be relieved to discover that it's not a lack of willpower that has held them back, but a lack of self-knowledge instead. Ever been swayed by a viewpoint on the Internet only to discover it's not... quite right? You're not alone! In this episode, we take a critical look at how social media algorithms can channel us into echo chambers, potentially leading us astray- especially in specialized fields like school counseling. We'll share strategies on distinguishing the good from the bad, and how to make informed decisions that truly benefit your students. We'll also get real about the idea of collaboration and safe spaces in school counseling. We'll unpack the difference between mere venting and productive collaboration. And we'll also share some tips on how to critically analyze information for its reliability. Remember, a school counselor is as strong as their network: we invite you to build strong relationships with colleagues, join a consultative group or even become a part of our very own School For School Counselors Mastermind. Together, we can navigate (mis)information overload and make a true difference in our students' lives.**********************************Mentioned in this episode:School for School Counselors Mastermind School for School Counselors Podcast Episode: "What You're Doing Wrong With Separation Anxiety (And Why It's Not Your Fault!)"Resources:Bessi, A. Alex Howard, psychologist, author of the new book “It's Not Your Fault” (love a Good Will Hunting reference!) wants you to know it's not your fault indeed. He also wants you to know there is a lot you can do to move through whatever trauma you've experienced in your life because it doesn't have to own you forever. If we let it own us, it can significantly impact our quality of life, emotionally, physically and in our work and relationships, so this show is a vital one to compassionately unpacking trauma and beginning the work to move through it - whatever happened, given there's an element of relativity there in terms of how negative experiences imprint on our mind and bodies. WOW!!! This one is going down in history as one of our favorite episodes. Get ready to feel seen, heard, and understood thanks to this conversation with Eve Rodsky about the INVISIBLE and UNPAID labor of women. Note: though we speak in heteronormative terms, this conversation is for anyone who feels like they're taking on more responsibility in their relationship than their partner. And if you're single/ dating and see yourself in a long-term partnership in the future, NOW is the time to start thinking about what “fair play” looks like. You will learn... - the 3 words that RUIN all relationships - why women do more unpaid labor + some shocking statistics - the secret formula for rebalancing the responsibilities in your household - how to challenge cultural assumptions that say you must “do it all” and create a more equitable dynamic in your relationship Remember: these gender imbalances are NOT YOUR FAULT nor are they your partner's. There are a lot of cultural assumptions at play here and it's time to dismantle them to create “fair play” between men and women. Eve Rodsky transformed her “blueberries breakdown” into a catalyst for social change when she applied her Harvard-trained background in organizational management to ask the simple yet profound question: What would happen if we treated our homes as our most important organizations? Her New York Times bestselling book and Reese's Book Club Pick, Fair Play, a gamified life-management system that helps partners rebalance their domestic workload and reimagine their relationship, has elevated the cultural conversation about the value of unpaid labor and care. In her highly anticipated follow-up, Find Your Unicorn Space: Reclaim Your Creative Life in a Too-Busy World, Rodsky explores the cross-section between the science of creativity, productivity, and resilience. Described as the ‘antidote to physical, mental, and emotional burnout,' Rodsky aims to inspire a new narrative around the equality of time and the individual right to personal time choice that influences sustainable and lasting change on a policy level. Rodsky's work is backed by Hello Sunshine—Reese Witherspoon's media company whose mission is to change the narrative for women through storytelling. Rodsky was born and raised by a single mom in New York City and now lives in Los Angeles with her husband Seth and their three children. "I spent too long thinking that because the system was a certain way, that that was the right way for it to be, and I think it took me a really long time to have the perspective to look and see how diseased our entire system really is, and to think of it in terms of how if we were to design a system by which to train physicians today…for training a group of competent, kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, diverse physicians, we would never design the system that's been designed""Yes, everyone should get negotiation skills training, but wouldn't it be really unique if we just created systems that treated everybody fairly to begin with and we didn't make people fight for resources and equitable compensation?""Not only are parental leave policies abysmally short and inappropriate for the birth parent…but they are also woefully inadequate for the non-birth parent as well…it creates this dynamic right from the time of a child's birth that you are basically saying, culture, society, is saying that there is one parent that is more important in the care of a child than another parent, and in some ways we never recover from that.”Follow Wendy Stead:- Twitter Links to some of Wendy's work:- "Wondering If I'd Get There Quicker If I Was a Man: Factors Contributing to Delayed Academic Advancement of Women in Infectious Diseases" - "One Person" - JAMA A Piece of My Mind- "It's Not Your Fault" - JAMA A Piece of My Mind- "An Essential Worker's List of Pandemic Chores for the Kids"Follow Ali: - Twitter (personal account)- Twitter (podcast account)

Why are they not telling us this?? ➡ hey guysss!! You can check out the free success to for making money fast ➡ ➡ https://www.jakeducey.com/hypnosis In this video, I break down exactly 1. An airplane is controlled by a cybernetic mechanism, which is just a programmed set-point (or destination) where the machine is programmed to operate. Your mind works the same way. 2. A baby is in a brainwave state similar to hypnosis and gets programmed, just like a thermostat, to operate at the level of the programming. 3. Think of what you want, and ask yourself: 'what have I been taught to believe since childhood? 4. Then, ask yourself these 3 questions: Is it true? is it really true? who would I be without this perception/belief? then, rewrite the belief to match your desired reality. 5. Understand reality is not stationary - it's an ocean of motion - it's energy at a very high speed of vibration and the subatomic fabric of your reality and your cells are influenced/altered by this perception. 6. Use hypnosis to reprogram your mind (download my free success hypnosis below). 7. Understand it's NOT YOUR FAULT - but also understand you have the freewill to alter your reality. 8. Let go of the past and mentally reset your "thermostat" to alter your reality. ➡ You can check out the free success to for making money fast ➡ ➡ https://www.jakeducey.com/hypnosis

— “How did I get here?” This question arises after the realization that the person you have spent a substantial amount of time with may be a narcissist. “How could this happen? How did I not see? How did I allow this for so long?” Do any of these questions sound familiar? They probably do because they are all a part of the beginning process of healing yourself from this trauma. What I am here to tell you is that toxic and narcissistic people enter our lives because we have unhealed trauma wounds that can be manipulated. These wounds are often unknown to us, but very known to a skilled narcissist. Easily manipulated using their tried and true techniques- love bombing, valuing and devaluing, shelving, gaslighting, stonewalling, etc. I want to make this very clear- this abuse and trauma is NOT YOUR FAULT. You did not ask for this, nor did you actively and consciously invite this into your life. The shadow (unconscious) side of you left a door open that the narcissist found. Trauma presents itself in so many ways, but a major way it presents is in the core beliefs of ourselves and the world around us. Core beliefs are established in childhood and after traumatic events. Trauma can only be characterized by an event(s) that was unsettling and caused maladaptive responses. There is no trauma gatekeeping here – your trauma is valid and true.” — writes Courtney Valeria interviews Courtney Loyola — she is the owner of Onyx Counseling and Wellness Center, and a trauma therapist specializing in narcissistic abuse recovery, dissociation, and complex trauma. She uses a multi-dimensional approach to therapy, allowing for total healing and wellness. Her approach to treating trauma is a 'root based' approach, focusing on deeply ingrained patterns that keep us stuck in toxic and abusive cycles. These approaches are: EMDR, CBT, Shadow Work and Somatic Experiencing. To learn more about Courtney Loyola and her work, please visit: onyxcounselingandwellness.com — This podcast is a quest for well-being, a quest for a meaningful life through the exploration of fundamental truths, enlightening ideas, insights on physical, mental, and spiritual health.
