Jamila Woods) - Sunday Candy. Salve que hoje não é domingo, mas é terça-feira, dia de Boia. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/boia/message

With spirited vocals, hard-hitting, soul sampled beats and his political opinion about the music industry, Chicago’s Calez introduced himself to the scene in 2012 with debut mixtape “Kid With Raps” about his passion for success. After moving out of a homeless shelter with his family, Calez wrote his first raps at age 11 that would further lead him to his first studio session at age 13. While introducing former crew 2008ighties/Brkf$t Club, “Kid With Raps” attracted attention on major blogosphere such as Complex, 2dopeboyz and would also land him in Chicago’s publications The Reader and Redeye. He then released “Too Broke Tape” in 2013, later his self-titled moniker “Ceito” mixtape in 2014, attracting a loyal following and his face in the Chicago Sun-Times “Fresh faces of Chicago” cover story. Calez has memorable verses with musical peers Chance The Rapper, Mick Jenkins, Donnie Trumpet and more. His music influenced by his Chicago roots, life lessons, and artists like Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Pharrell has been performed through festivals like SXSW, NXNE, CMJ, and A3C. After producing for Alex Wiley’s “Village Party II.” Just two years after releasing “BABY” album in 2016, Calez is back better than ever before with “Poppa EP” released in March that features smash singles “Boss Sh!t & Cool w/ Alex WIley & Mick Jenkins. Whether you call him an educator, activist or poet, Malcolm London has left his mark on projects all over his native Chicago since first winning the Louder Than A Bomb poetry slam contest as a high school senior in 2011. Add an official album debut to that list of accomplishments. London’s 12-track debut album features guest spots by Vic Mensa, Jamila Woods, Donnie Trumpet, How to Dress Well, Cam O’bi and more.
Today's guest, Johnny Caligula, was "born in the back of a traveling show"... his "momma did dance for the money they'd throw." At the age of 30, he decided to follow her example and took up the ancient, sexual art of burlesque. Fortunate to receive guidance from the likes of Lefty Lucy, Mary Cyn, and Sarah Tops, Johnny regales us with tales of his latest exploits in burlesque (along with some insights into the business), before presenting us with this week's album pick: Coloring Book by the prominent collaborator of Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment, Chance the Rapper. After a lengthy group analysis, be sure to stick around to the bitter end for some quick plugs on Johnny's upcoming shows! Continue reading

Nico Segal, aka @DonnieTrumpet, is a musician out of Chicago whose work with Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa has gained him notoriety in the worlds of hip-hop and jazz. His most recent album, 2015's 'Surf'—an album made in collaboration with a collective of artists he calls The Social Experiment, which includes Chance and others, plus contributions from artists like Erykah Badu and more—is a masterful work of musical composition and optimistic sound. Donnie sat down with Sam to chat about growing up in Chicago, picking up the trumpet—his signature instrument—going on tour with Frank Ocean, and his decision to release his own music for free instead of through a label. This is the latest episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Ausar Ra Black Hawk for the week of Dec. 31, 2015 [flashback episode due to the holiday season; originally broadcast on the week of June 17, 2015] with some new and classic music from the international Black Diaspora, news and commentary. This week's radio show breakdown (by minutes/hours): 0:00 - 1:31:11 Introduction & Extended Commentary 1:31:12 - 2:58:19 DJ Fusion Mix ** NOTE: THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE'VE EVER DONE A TOTALLY EXPLICIT COMMENTARY FOR THIS WEEK'S RADIO SHOW IN REGARDS TO LANGUAGE DUE TO THE INSANITY OF THE RECENT NEWS CYCLE. ** The commentary during that week touched base on the role of independent Black American media and our views as a whole during what really felt like a past few days of utterly “Black Bodies and Minds Aren’t REALLY Treasured by damned near anyone” news, including the upcoming savage displacement of Blacks of Haitian descent in the Dominican Republic, the utterly boneheaded responses from folks of all backgrounds to the blackface act of Rachel Dolezel (and pretty much being told that “blackness” can be put on like a hat when convenient as long as you’re white and should be an honor as long as people are “down for the cause”), more situations of blatant discrimination against young Black children in the U.S. and the horrendous act of domestic terrorism in Charleston, SC at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. We also talked about a few popular culture things to round off the show's talk segment, including the upcoming Janet Jackson tour and her career as a whole through the years. There was no Black Agenda Report news mini-segment on this week's episode due to our long commentary. To close out this review season, we bring you the debut album by the most ambitious collaborators we've ever looked at... Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment. Although they began with a core of five members, the band's debut album Surf certainly lives up to their name, The Social Experiment, by introducing MANY more musical minds to the table. Offering the album up for free (exclusively on iTunes), the band appears to be as magnanimous as they are community-driven. Enjoy this thorough analysis along with, lastly, some quick thoughts on contemporary music trends -- verily on our minds as we fast approach the 2015 year in review. Continue reading

This is the latest, BRAND NEW episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Ausar Ra Black Hawk for the week of June 17, 2015 with some new and classic music from the international Black Diaspora, news and commentary. ** The commentary this week touched base on the role of independent Black American media and our views as a whole during what really felt like a past few days of utterly “Black Bodies and Minds Aren’t REALLY Treasured by damned near anyone” news, including the upcoming savage displacement of Blacks of Haitian descent in the Dominican Republic, the utterly boneheaded responses from folks of all backgrounds to the blackface act of Rachel Dolezel (and pretty much being told that “blackness” can be put on like a hat when convenient as long as you’re white and should be an honor as long as people are “down for the cause”), more situations of blatant discrimination against young Black children in the U.S. and the horrendous act of domestic terrorism in Charleston, SC at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. We also talked about a few popular culture things to round off the show's talk segement, including the upcoming Janet Jackson tour and her career as a whole through the years. There is no brand new Black Agenda Report news mini-segment on this week's episode due to our long commentary. It's over an hour long because we literally had sooooo much to talk, but its a lot of entertaining talk. Our special guest this episode is Tuck (@TuckNYC), who's currently working on his album Saturday and is just a jack of all trades. Hear us talk about the first time we've ever seen a boob in real life. We also run through the recent releases from Florence + The Machine ("How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful"), Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment ("SURF"), and Dom Kennedy ("By Dom Kennedy"). XXL Magazine revealed their freshman cover this week and we touch on each artist and their possibility for being a major breakout star and the omissions of Young Thug, PartyNextDoor, Makkonen & more. We cap off with a discussion on independent artists who are still on the rise and tips to reach the next level. It's a great, full podcast. Enjoy.
