After a couple of months, Miguel is back with a new episode! Miguel welcomed Chuy from The Heatwave Podcast to talk about the NBA investigation of Phoenix Suns Owner Robert Sarver, who was accused of racism and misogyny by Suns employees (Note: Episode originally recorded 9.23.22).  The Heatwave Podcast is a podcast centered around the political environment of the State of Arizona from a revolutionary socialist perspective, made by the people, for the people! You can listen to Chuy and his comrades on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcast! To start the podcast, Miguel and Chuy discuss the Investigation Report findings and the NBA fining Robert Sarver $10 million and suspending him for just one year. Like LeBron James, Chris Paul, and others, Miguel and Chuy were outraged that Sarver received a slap on the wrist. However, two days before they recorded this episode, Robert Sarver announced he would begin the process of selling the team. You can read the investigation report here. Miguel and Chuy also discuss how the Robert Sarver investigation is another example of White Supremacy, Patriarchy, and Toxic Masculinity in sports. Miguel also mentions the rumors of Jeff Bezos buying the Suns and the issue of capitalism and Billionaire owners. To end the podcast, they talk about former Phoenix Suns head Coach Earl Watson, who is Back and Mexican, and the racism he had to endure under Robert Sarver. Miguel Garcia produced this episode. Sometimes the most impressive and admirable basketball journeys don’t have the fairy tale script of making it to the NBA. How about leaving your dream school that is nationally ranked for a Mid-Major to find your own way? Or moving country to country (4 in two months) to find the right basketball situation then eventually earning the title of a champion? His path in hoops may seem like a bumpy ride but to us it’s the ultimate success story of never giving up, swallowing your pride for happiness, taking control of your destiny and hey… champion is champion right?Travis Reed was a standout player from the Los Angeles area during an incredible era of hoops. LA was a hotbed producing players like Paul Pierce, Baron Davis, Schea Cotton, Corey Benjamin, the Collins twins, Tobey Bailey, and many more. Reed chose to play for his dream school UCLA. Those UCLA teams included teammates such as Baron Davis, Matt Barnes, Earl Watson, Dan Gadzuric, Toby Bailey, JR Henderson, Jerome Moiso, and other big name players. After two seasons, Reed transferred to Long Beach State to make a name for himself. His success led him to a decorated career overseas that included a few league MVPs and being crowned a champion. It was a joy having Travis on the show with us. We are blessed that he shared his story because he has had such a unique career and we are thrilled for you all to learn about it. You will really get a better understanding of the what players go through transferring schools and playing ball overseas. Travis also has his own podcast called "Travis Reed-A Basketball Life”. What you hear on this episode is a very small sample size of what you will hear on his podcast so be sure to check it out if you love Travis Reed as much as we do! Thank you Travis Reed! You can find his podcast on I-Heart Radio, Spotify, or any main source for Podcasts.

Adam Stanco & Noah Coslov go ISO with former UCLA and St. John's head coach Steve Lavin. They discuss his remarkably swift journey from third assistant on the UCLA staff to head coach of the Bruins. On this episode, we've got one we’ve been looking for, knowledge of the game from guys that played it. Earl Watson got into coaching at the pro level after thirteen seasons as a player. By 2015 he was in the head coach seat in Phoenix. The first thing he did was recognize the brilliance in store for Devin Booker and then put him in a position to tap into it. By going through the fires and playing among greatness, Earl’s approach to coaching is with that in mind. For Gil, he recognizes Earl’s philosophy as a players’ coach and the benefit it gives not only stars but your entire roster. Between Earl and Gil they see where it works and where it doesn’t. Also, how to relay that information to the next wave. They see the evolution in talent, and are here to push it forward. Rejecting The Screen - Talking NBA Basketball

Adam & Noah go ISO with Chad Ford, the host of the Locked On Podcast Network's newest podcast: Chad Ford's NBA Draft Big Board. Chad discusses how he got his start in two different careers: one as an NBA Draft expert and one in conflict resolution as an associate professor at BYU-Hawaii. In combining those careers, he details the communication breakdowns that exist within NBA teams, especially between head coaches and general managers, and says some NBA teams have asked him to mediate conflict within their own organizations. He explains how he develops his "Big Board," how teams use a "tier system" to evaluate prospects, and why fit is so important in determining future success. He gives his thoughts on highly rated 2020 NBA Draft prospects LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards, and James Wiseman and shares how big men are evaluated in the current era of Small Ball. He also tells remarkable stories about past prospects he evaluated, including Andrew Wiggins, Hasheem Thabeet, Kawhi Leonard, Elfrid Payton, Willie Cauley-Stein, and Jahlil Okafor. Plus, Chad offers up some other crazy draft stories, including the wildest piece of intel he ever received on a prospect and a Celtics draft night trade that never happened. Chad's new book Dangerous Love: Transforming Fear and Conflict at Home, at Work, and in the World is now available for purchase. -- Please subscribe to the podcast, rate, review and share with your friends! Merry Christmas, everybody! On today's special episode, we are going to go back toward right before training camp for a special interview. Before Evan took over as the new host of Locked On Suns, he had a chance to speak with ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowksi about all things Suns on his own platform, BrightSidery. For our nearly 40-minute discussion, we did a complete State of the Suns, looking at their current crop of young players (Devin Booker, Dragan Bender, Marquese Chriss, etc.) and then-head coach Earl Watson.Woj is a big believer in Josh Jackson, so his recent struggles should leave you feeling a little better after hearing him discuss the former Kansas Jayhawk.A quick reminder if you never heard it the first time around, Woj does not have a Skype account. This means, at points, his audio could be a little murky because I had to record off of the TapeACall app, but for most of the time, it was completely fine to me.Happy Holidays, Suns fans, and enjoy this flashback one-on-one discussion with Woj and me!Note: Brendon and I will bring you our thoughts on the last two games, including the recent Mike James / Isaiah Canaan news in our next episode tomorrow, so stay tuned! Paul and Justin are joined this week by Adam Spinella from www.bballbreakdown.com.  Adam recently wrote an article breaking down the current status of the Suns' rebuild and the long term outlook for the team.   It's a great read and you can check it out here:  http://bballbreakdown.com/2017/01/09/the-coaching-spin-checking-on-the-suns-rebuild-in-phoenix/.  Listen in as Adam and the guys discuss, among other things: - where Earl Watson is taking the team; - the development of the Suns' rookies; - what needs to be done to improve the efficiency of the Suns' offense and defense; and - what moves may shape the look of the Suns' roster for the years to come. Check out Adam's other work over at www.bballbreakdown.com and follow him on Twitter @Spinella14.  And, of course, leave any comments below or hit up Paul (@DervishOfWhirl) and Justin (@SoSaysJ) on Twitter. Happy New Year to Bright Side of the Sun Nation from everyone's two favorite Suns fans, Paul (@DervishOfWhirl) and Justin (@SoSaysJ)!  Celebrate the New Year with the guys as they bring us a heated episode of Bright Side of the Sun's For the Fans, by the Fans Podcast.  This week's topics include: - The biggest villains in Suns' history (spoiler alert: Justin does not like David Stern... at all). - Isaiah Thomas has been putting up huge numbers, but the guys are still fine with him not being a Phoenix Sun. - A sprited (and some may even say "combative") debate as to whether Earl Watson's offense is pooly designed (as Paul says) or a work in progress (as Justin says).   - Dragan Bender gets some significant minutes.  Paul thinks it is a sign of the Suns recognizing that their good faith effort to make the playoffs is not going to be successful.  Justin thinks it is just a step forward in Coach Watson's effort to bring Bender along slowly, that Bender's minutes will continue to fluctuate, and that Suns fans need to chill. - There may be another friendly wager between the guys on the horizon related to whether or not Eric Bledsoe will be an All-Star... stay tuned!
