LESSON 135If I Defend Myself I Am Attacked.Who would defend himself unless he thought he were attacked, that the attack were real, and that his own defense could save himself? And herein lies the folly of defense; it gives illusions full reality, and then attempts to handle them as real. It adds illusions to illusions, thus making correction doubly difficult. And it is this you do when you attempt to plan the future, activate the past, or organize the present as you wish. You operate from the belief you must protect yourself from what is happening because it must contain what threatens you. A sense of threat is an acknowledgment of an inherent weakness; a belief that there is danger which has power to call on you to make appropriate defense. The world is based on this insane belief. And all its structures, all its thoughts and doubts, its penalties and heavy armaments, its legal definitions and its codes, its ethics and its leaders and its gods, all serve but to preserve its sense of threat. For no one walks the world in armature but must have terror striking at his heart.Defense is frightening. It stems from fear, increasing fear as each defense is made. You think it offers safety. Yet it speaks of fear made real and terror justified. Is it not strange you do not pause to ask, as you elaborate your plans and make your armor thicker and your locks more tight, what you defend, and how, and against what?Let us consider first what you defend. It must be something that is very weak and easily assaulted. It must be something made easy prey, unable to protect itself and needing your defense. What but the body has such frailty that constant care and watchful, deep concern are needful to protect its little life? What but the body falters and must fail to serve the Son of God as worthy host?Yet it is not the body that can fear, nor be a thing of fear. It has no needs but those which you assign to it. It needs no complicated structures of defense, no health-inducing medicine, no care and no concern at all. Defend its life, or give it gifts to make it beautiful or walls to make it safe, and you but say your home is open to the thief of time, corruptible and crumbling, so unsafe it must be guarded with your very life.Is not this picture fearful? Can you be at peace with such a concept of your home? Yet what endowed the body with the right to serve you thus except your own belief? It is your mind which gave the body all the functions that you see in it, and set its value far beyond a little pile of dust and water. Who would make defense of something that he recognized as this? The body is in need of no defense. This cannot be too often emphasized. It will be strong and healthy if the mind does not abuse it by assigning it to roles it cannot fill, to purposes beyond its scope, and to exalted aims which it cannot accomplish. Such attempts, ridiculous yet deeply cherished, are the sources for the many mad attacks you make upon it. For it seems to fail your hopes, your needs, your values and your dreams. The “self” that needs protection is not real. The body, valueless and hardly worth the least defense, need merely be perceived as quite apart from you, and it becomes a healthy, serviceable instrument through which the mind can operate until its usefulness is over. Who would want to keep it when its usefulness is done?Defend the body and you have attacked your mind. For you have seen in it the faults, the weaknesses, the limits and the lacks from which you think the body must be saved. You will not see the mind as separate from bodily conditions. And you will impose upon the body all the pain that comes from the conception of the mind as limited and fragile, and apart from other minds and separate from its Source. These are the thoughts in need of healing, and the body will respond with health when they have been corrected and replaced with truth. This is the body's only real defense. Yet is this where you look for its defense? You offer it protection of a kind from which it gains no benefit at all, but merely adds to your distress of mind. You do not heal, but merely take away the hope of healing, for you fail to see where hope must lie if it be meaningful.A healed mind does not plan. It carries out the plans that it receives through listening to Wisdom that is not its own. It waits until it has been taught what should be done, and then proceeds to do it. It does not depend upon itself for anything except its adequacy to fulfill the plans assigned to it. It is secure in certainty that obstacles can not impede its progress to accomplishment of any goal that serves the greater plan established for the good of everyone.A healed mind is relieved of the belief that it must plan, although it cannot know the outcome which is best, the means by which it is achieved, nor how to recognize the problem that the plan is made to solve. It must misuse the body in its plans until it recognizes this is so. But when it has accepted this as true, then is it healed, and lets the body go.Enslavement of the body to the plans the unhealed mind sets up to save itself must make the body sick. It is not free to be the means of helping in a plan which far exceeds its own protection, and which needs its service for a little while. In this capacity is health assured. For everything the mind employs for this will function flawlessly, and with the strength that has been given it and cannot fail.It is, perhaps, not easy to perceive that self-initiated plans are but defenses, with the purpose all of them were made to realize. They are the means by which a frightened mind would undertake its own protection, at the cost of truth. This is not difficult to realize in some forms which these self-deceptions take, where the denial of reality is very obvious. Yet planning is not often recognized as a defense. The mind engaged in planning for itself is occupied in setting up control of future happenings. It does not think that it will be provided for, unless it makes its own provisions. Time becomes a future emphasis, to be controlled by learning and experience obtained from past events and previous beliefs. It overlooks the present, for it rests on the idea the past has taught enough to let the mind direct its future course. The mind that plans is thus refusing to allow for change. What it has learned before becomes the basis for its future goals. Its past experience directs its choice of what will happen. And it does not see that here and now is everything it needs to guarantee a future quite unlike the past, without a continuity of any old ideas and sick beliefs. Anticipation plays no part at all, for present confidence directs the way.Defenses are the plans you undertake to make against the truth. Their aim is to select what you approve, and disregard what you consider incompatible with your beliefs of your reality. Yet what remains is meaningless indeed. For it is your reality that is the “threat” which your defenses would attack, obscure, and take apart and crucify. What could you not accept, if you but knew that everything that happens, all events, past, present and to come, are gently planned by One Whose only purpose is your good? Perhaps you have misunderstood His plan, for He would never offer pain to you. But your defenses did not let you see His loving blessing shine in every step you ever took. While you made plans for death, He led you gently to eternal life.Your present trust in Him is the defense that promises a future undisturbed, without a trace of sorrow, and with joy that constantly increases, as this life becomes a holy instant, set in time, but heeding only immortality. Let no defenses but your present trust direct the future, and this life becomes a meaningful encounter with the truth that only your defenses would conceal.Without defenses, you become a light which Heaven gratefully acknowledges to be its own. And it will lead you on in ways appointed for your happiness according to the ancient plan, begun when time was born. Your followers will join their light with yours, and it will be increased until the world is lighted up with joy. And gladly will our brothers lay aside their cumbersome defenses, which availed them nothing and could only terrify. We will anticipate that time today with present confidence, for this is part of what was planned for us. We will be sure that everything we need is given us for our accomplishment of this today. We make no plans for how it will be done, but realize that our defenselessness is all that is required for the truth to dawn upon our minds with certainty. For fifteen minutes twice today we rest from senseless planning, and from every thought that blocks the truth from entering our minds. Today we will receive instead of plan, that we may give instead of organize. And we are given truly, as we say:If I defend myself I am attacked. But in defenselessness I will be strong, and I will learn what my defenses hide.Nothing but that. If there are plans to make, you will be told of them. They may not be the plans you thought were needed, nor indeed the answers to the problems which you thought confronted you. But they are answers to another kind of question, which remains unanswered yet in need of answering until the Answer comes to you at last. All your defenses have been aimed at not receiving what you will receive today. And in the light and joy of simple trust, you will but wonder why you ever thought that you must be defended from release. Heaven asks nothing. It is hell that makes extravagant demands for sacrifice. You give up nothing in these times today when, undefended, you present yourself to your Creator as you really are.He has remembered you. Today we will remember Him. For this is Eastertime in your salvation - Jesus Christ in ACIM

Cooper and Matthew enjoy a chill, wide-ranging conversation that launches in with no introduction to a discussion of Pope Francis's recent passing. It morphs into a conversation about Easter and Easter traditions and Good Friday and Good Friday movies (Passion of the Christ and Silence come up). From there, Matthew asks a question about disciplines, and they talk about time management, mental fortitude, and habitual spiritual practices. Finally, they discuss the use of the word "struggle" as it relates to sanctification and sin. This episode is laid-back, but contains some good conversation about the Christian life, with two guys who are seeking to follow Christ in everything and live accordingly. Happy Eastertime! Celebrating the Ascension of Christ and Bright Week! Keep in mind that 'Bright Week' (Eastern Church) or 'Easter Week' (Western Church) starts the fifty days of welcoming the wonderful miracle that Jesus Christ has given us! Jesus gave up his human life, an innocent man dying on the cross, allowing us God's gift of the Resurrecting of him for all humankind. A rebirth for humankind to live in him and he in us. Let the celebration continue! Christ Has Risen! And on a solemn note during this celebration, I want to offer condolences to all my friends in the Roman Catholic Church on the passing of Pope Francis, the day after Easter of this year 2025 of the Lord. TVC 685.1: Ed and guest co-host Chuck Harter welcome author, voice artist, radio host, and Laurel and Hardy historian Randy Skretvedt. Randy's latest book, March of the Wooden Soldiers: The Amazing Story of Laurel & Hardy's Babes in Toyland, is a detailed, behind-the-scenes look at the making of March of the Wooden Soldiers (1934), the adaptation of the Victor Herbert operetta Babes in Toyland (which, in fact, was the title of Wooden Soldiers when it was originally released) that not only has remained a holiday tradition on television since the early 1950s, but was reportedly Stan Laurel's favorite film of the ones with he did with Oliver Hardy. Topics this segment include how March of the Wooden Soldiers was originally intended as an Eastertime release in 1934, as well as the many delays that plagued the production of the movie. March of the Wooden Soldiers: The Amazing Story of Laurel & Hardy's Babes in Toyland is available from Bonaventure Press.

I currently have 9 spots available for my self-paced group program Deep Healing for the Creative Soul. This was previously $2,222 and now you can snag a spot for $888. Don't miss out on this opportunity to heal quickly and efficiently. No more pushing through life feeling unmotivated and uninspired. Break through the chains that keep you tied down. Hello, my friends. I am so excited to get to talk to you today. I didn't think I was going to get an episode in because we have guests at our house and I really have trouble balancing work and family duties when I'm around people that I haven't got to see very often. And I know some of you can relate with that, but we just came back from the zoo and I have a minute and I'm feeling super inspired to share something with you guys. I have been, for some reason, really listening in on manifestation lately. I've been tuning into it. I've been deciphering what feels correct to me and what feels incorrect. And I just wanted to share my overall experiences with you guys. I just going to say flat out, I do not consider myself an expert in this at all. However, I can clearly look through at times in my life where I have been able to manifest things into in my world, whether intentionally or unintentionally, and what I see actually happens. So I know it's possible. And I know there's a lot of mumbo jumbo out there will say a lot of little whispers and static in the airways about this topic. So hey, why not? Let's talk about it. But first, let's go ahead and roll those credits because I have so much to go over with you guys. All right, here we go. Hey, friend, welcome to deep healing for creative entrepreneurs. My name is Aubrey Barr, and I am a subconscious release technique practitioner and photography business owner. I know you are sick of ending your day feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, and you are seeking a solution to help you feel creatively inspired and actively engaged in your business as well as professionalism. In this podcast, we are going to dig into any limiting beliefs or subconscious programs that are keeping you in a space filled with anxiety and stress. This work is not a temporary solution for your life. No, this is a complete transformation. So grab your coffee or tea and let's start you on the road to healing. And let me just say, you can do this. you are worth it, and you are meant to thrive in life and business. So let's dig in. So something that comes up a lot with people who talk about manifesting and people who try to do manifesting, whether you're a student or someone who feels like you're a coach, wherever you're at, there's this idea that the way that you feel is the way that things will be. And I believe it was Neville Goddard who said, assume the feeling of your wish fulfilled and observe the route that your attention follows. Okay. So a lot of people hear this and they think that they are supposed to feel into what that manifestation is like. So they're going to feel what it feels like to have this million dollar home or to have that partner that's just like the best thing that ever happened to you. And I do think there's truth to that, right? There's truth to feeling that deep inside. I talk about it all the time. When I feel into my gratitudes, when I allow myself to move to that higher vibration, I change my day. I absolutely stop maybe a bad day in its tracks and rearrange things and feel into that. I feel first and then the gratitude comes, right? Right. But what gets misconstrued a lot, I think, is that people think that when you are manifesting something and you are feeling into something, then you cannot waver from that feeling. So if I am manifesting this dream spouse, he's just like this incredible person. I know what I want to feel like around him. And I allow that to be my thing. And then you go on a date and you meet someone who you think is going to be the right guy. And it's just like, no, this is not happening whatsoever. And you actually leave feeling crappy. happy, right? You leave feeling unfulfilled and feeling really hopeless about, you know, your future with somebody. That moment, okay, is not going to break you. It's not going to be the end all of your manifestation journey. And I think people get so stuck in feeling like it has to feel good all the time. They have to always hold on to that feeling that they miss out on learning the opportunities. They miss out on learning like this experience has taught me what I do not want. And not only has it done that, but it's pushed me now in such a way that I am so motivated to go the other direction that I cannot even waver from that path now, right? So using your emotions for fuel towards this manifestation is always going to be better. It's always going to allow you to get closer. Does that make sense? I can't tell you how many times I have felt like, okay, I need to make this amount of money and I'm going to manifest it into my life. And I have all these offerings, which you guys know I do. And I do so many things. So I can manifest it through photography. I can manifest it through even doing my work, my subconscious work, but also massage work, right? I can, there's just ways for me to get it. Let's say that. And so I set that intention. I put it out there. I imagine what it's like. I feel into that. And then I have a bad day. And this day sucks so bad that it's hard for me to even feel gratitude. This happens to me too. I am human just like you are. But when those times happen and it's hard for me to lean into that, I tell you what, sometimes that is my biggest day. I end up booking two clients. I end up getting a photography contract that's $3,000, right? Those things happen on those off days too. And I'm sure if you take a minute and think back through your life at times when things you wanted to happen, and maybe you were feeling super pushed about it, and you were feeling just kind of down about it, those moments were not in vain. They were not perfect. They were not the perfect day on the most wonderful thing you were doing, and just like your emotions were so amazing, right? Sometimes it's those moments when we're not having the greatest day. What we need to understand is that when we set life in motion, and when we allow ourselves to imagine something better for ourselves. We are imagining in a different realm. We're not imagining in the 3D, right? Because if we were doing that, then we would have to play out exactly how each of those things were coming to us. We'd have to say, okay, when I go to the coffee shop at 8 a.m., that is where I will meet Mr. Right. He's going to be standing right there. He's going to actually even pay for my order. He's going to do all these things, right? That's ridiculous. And that puts puts limitations on us. So when we imagine things and we manifest things or we think we're manifesting things in the 3D, that is actually limiting ourselves. And so I've done this a million times too, where I will say, okay, well, I'm going to sell this course. It's going to be incredible. I really feel inclined to sell it. It's going to do so amazing. I'm going to bring in this amount of money, yada, yada. And then what happens is I bring in that amount of money, but it was in a completely different way. So I knew I was doing something right. I knew I was on the right path, but yet it wasn't playing out the way I thought it would. What I want you to understand, okay, is that it is not only okay to not feel great about something 100% of the time, but it also is completely normal and it's not bad. No emotions that you feel are bad. Emotions are neutral, okay? Okay, it's the experience that you put on that emotion that allows it to be a good or bad thing. There's no escaping emotion, unless you're a psychopath. That's a podcast episode on its own, right? But there's no escaping that. Whatever you have going on in your life is for your benefit to help you move towards something else. I know that's a hard pill to swallow sometimes. So let's take that example around finding that spouse, finding that significant other, right? and putting a limit on it. When we say it out loud, it sounds ridiculous. But when we use our experiences that we've had in life that maybe were crappy experiences, things that we do not wish on our daughters, we do not wish on our friends, we don't wish on our enemies. We want people to find what they're looking for in life. If you take that experience and you label it, then you're constantly allowing yourself to stay in that 3D where you are controlling everything. Instead, Let's release the need to label something. Let's allow ourselves to manifest something good into our lives without having the limitations. Right? Let's lead with our emotion, whether that's good or bad, whether that feels comfortable or uncomfortable. Okay? So when Neville Goddard said, assume the feeling of your wish fulfilled and observe that route that your attention follows. He did not mean that you always have to stay in that vibration. What he meant was assume you're going to get there. In other words, when you put time and energy and effort into something that you really want and you say flat out, this is what I desire. This is what I know I deserve. I don't know how I'm going to get there. That's the part right there. I do not know how I'm going to get there, but I'm going to provide that there's paths in certain directions. I'm going to be open to opportunities that come my way that would push me in a different direction, right? So assuming the emotion is then trusting, isn't it? It's more about trusting that whatever it is you have asked for is already coming to you and you detach that emotion from it. You are no longer restricting yourself. Everything that has a negative emotion attached to it and it feels like I need that and and you put that word out there, need, and I know you know what I'm talking about. Like I need $10,000. Like I need it yesterday. I have to pay my mortgage. I have to do this, whatever. When you add that extra need to it, what you're actually doing, restricting that from coming your way. You're putting up a boundary and you don't even know it. So here's the coin I want you to take with you. Next time you're having a bad day, why don't you feel into those emotions? Say, you know what? I'm having a bad day because this actually just sucks, right? Like this just doesn't feel good. I'm sad. I feel grief. I feel guilt. I'm having a bad day and that's okay. But don't assume that nothing good is going to happen to you now. Don't revert back to that part of you that feels hopeless, right? That part of you is a child. I want you to understand that. That is the child in all of us. I've met plenty of adults who still have that child in them that has not let go of that death grip, okay? You don't want to be that person. You want to have enough emotional intelligence to understand that you are going to have bad days. You're going to feel like crap sometimes some days are going to suck like it's just it's gonna suck you guys i know this you know this but understanding that you will come out the other side not giving up hope in everything that you are and everything that you've worked for that is where the magic stands and i believe in my opinion that's how we still manifest through all of this that's how people can still manifest fest and have bad days and have good days and, you know, feel like, oh my gosh, it's almost here one day and the next day, like I'm a, I'm an utter failure. So please keep that in your mind. Keep that in your heart. Understand that you're a human and allow yourself to roll with it. Allow whatever opportunities to come your way. Come with openness. Like, I don't know how this is going to work, but here's this opportunity. It's not what I thought it was going to be, but I feel good about it. And I'm going to let that happen to me. I'm going to see what happens here. So I hope that's helpful to you guys. I don't know why that was on my mind, but it is something that I've dealt with in the the past and I thought it might be a really good conversation for us to have. I want to tell you guys I am so celebrating right now because this podcast finally got to 10,000 downloads. That was a huge goal of mine since I started. There was just something about that 10,000 downloads that I was yearning for and I might have, honestly, just between you and I, I might have held on to that too much and even restricted it myself for a while. But we all have to learn from something, thing, right? Here I am. I'm still going strong. I had got my 10,000 downloads. I see so much more in the future of this podcast, in the future of me with my business. And I am so sorry if you can hear kids yelling in the background. They're having the time of their lives, these cousins. So I apologize, but I did want to record today. I did want to share my message with you guys. And I also wanted to take the opportunity to tell you I had a really important epiphany about the work that I do. And I decided that I wanted to open up my course, Deep Healing for the Creative Soul, for more souls. And I want to make this accessible to people. I am seeing a lot of businesses go down. I'm seeing a lot of artists and creatives just feeling hopeless. And I'm. I happen to know that there's a lot of hope out there, that there's a lot of growth and we do not need to live in scarcity, but I want to spread that message to you. And I want to reach as many people as I possibly can. And so I decided to reshape the way I do this program. I am no longer offering private sessions with that program. I used to offer four private sessions plus weekly group calls. And I'm taking that back a notch in order to provide this beautiful masterpiece that I worked so hard on and came through intuition and divine guidance to so many people. I want to offer it to you. And I want it to be at a price point that you can reasonably say you can invest in yourself. Now, we all know that you are worth every penny of it. when it was $2,222, you are worth it. The work is worth it. This is life-changing. It's not just something I talk about. It's something my clients live. It's something that changes lives like that. But instead of that price point, I decided to keep it to 16 weeks of pure magic self-paced work bi-weekly group sessions. So what does that mean? That means every first and third Wednesday. We will be meeting as a group. One of the monthly meetings is going to be in the middle of the day, Eastern Time, and one is going to be in the evening, Easter Time. So we're going to try to accommodate people from all over. I know this podcast is a global podcast, and I want to be able to offer that to you guys. Because I have the opportunity to change what is offered in the program, it takes the weight off of me to have such a high price point, and I'm able to bring it down to $8.88. Okay, so if this sounds like something that you want in on, I am only offering 10 spots at this rate. We are going to try it out, consider it a beta. This is the same price as my original beta program, by the way, that sold out. So I am offering 10 spots only. I sent out an email this morning and I already filled one of the spots. So I've got nine spots left. It's an incredible deal. Please know there are still payments that you can do. You can do a monthly payment, but it does come out to be $9.99. If you do the full payment, it's $8.88. You guys, this is insane. This is my way to get back to all of you that I know are in that space of just struggling, not feeling like you can manifest things, not feeling like you can fully embody everything that's coming to you. And I want to change that with you. I want you to look back and say, you know what? That was the best program I ever took. That was the best time I had with Aubrey. Because I'll tell you something, none of my clients are upset when they finish sessions with me, when they do this course with me. Nobody's ever upset about it. Like everybody knows they need it. It's taking that leap, believing in yourself, knowing you're worth it, knowing that now is the time that you're worth it. That's when the magic happens. So I can't promise that I will keep this course at this rate, but right now it feels so good to offer it to you guys. In a different package like this. So follow the link below in the show notes, check it out, see if it fits. Let me know if you have any questions whatsoever. I'm always happy to answer them. And I am just so excited to see who comes in here with me. And I'm going to be honest, I am manifesting 10 of the most amazing people out there. I am manifesting you into this program. Graham. So wherever you are, whoever you are, I am just so excited to get to share this energy with you, to get to help you to heal. Finally, we're going to save you a ton of time, money, energy that you're needing for therapy through this course. I can promise you that. I hear it from every single one of my clients. All right, guys, I hope you have a beautiful week. I have a special message coming later on this week. It is my birthday, and that is going to be so amazing. I absolutely am so ready to celebrate. So I hope you guys have fun. We'll talk to you soon. I hope this podcast spoke to you in some way. If it did, please go ahead and leave me a review view and subscribe so that I know you're enjoying what you hear. And further, if you know somebody else who owns their own creative business and struggles with anything that we spoke about, please pass this on because it is my hope that we will be able to build a community of like-minded individuals who love on each other and appreciate the many facets that make our creative business so unique. And lastly, check out the show notes to find my free Facebook community and other useful links to work with me. All right, friend. See you soon. Music.
For this is Eastertime in your salvation...

Orphans No More: 15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. 17 This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you. 18 “I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. 19 In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.” - Based on Scripture John 14:15-21

My predictions on “taming” the social media space. Plus, during Eastertime they feasted with Christ during those following 40 days and his Mother was among his witnesses. You With the Sad Eyes: When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. And he said to them, “What are you discussing with each other while you walk along?” They stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who does not know the things that have taken place there in these days?” He asked them, “What things?” They replied, “The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things took place. Moreover, some women of our group astounded us. They were at the tomb early this morning, and when they did not find his body there, they came back and told us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but they did not see him.” Then he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have declared! Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter into his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures. Based on Scripture John 20:19 and Luke 24:13-27
Easter Sunday is BUT the First Day of "Easter Week" aka "Bright Week." The entirety of "Bright Week" is just the START of the celebration of the miraculous event of Jesus Christ overcoming death. "Easter Sunday" is the start of the 50 Days of celebrating the great gift of Jesus Christ rising from the dead and visiting his followers on earth up until his Ascension and then Pentecost. The Good Shepherd Project: Helping Clergy Preach the Prolife Message at Easter Time by Priests for Life
Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! — Romans 5:9 As we noted yesterday, when we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus at Eastertime, we may often hear about the Easter bunny and eggs and chocolate. Those old secular traditions have nothing to do with Jesus' gift of new life for all who believe in him. But they can be distracting if we forget to focus on God's amazing love shown to us through the death and rising of his Son, Jesus. Reflecting on the shed blood of Jesus may make us uncomfortable. Perhaps we would rather focus on nicer, sweeter things—like chocolate or some other treat—at this time of year. But the sacrifice of Christ is the only thing that could pay the debt of our sin and bring us peace with God. There is no redemption through chocolate. Our redemption from sin and death came through the shed blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God. As we saw earlier this month, when God delivered his people from slavery in Egypt, the sacrificed lamb of the Passover pointed ahead to the sacrifice of Jesus, God's only Son. He became “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). By his death we have life. By his shed blood we are set free and cleansed from all sin! Lord God, you have freed us from sin through the blood of Christ shed on the cross for our sake. Through his death we can now enjoy full life in you. In his name we pray. Amen.

Who doesn't like to celebrate Easter? Chocolate covered Easter Bunnies, jelly beans, Peeps marshmallows delights and have you noticed I just keep mentioning sweets. Ok, I may have a problem. Actually it is a reminder that Christ died on the cross for us and that is powerful, because the most important thing is that he rose again from the dead according to the scriptures. So yes, Jesus loves me. Also, many people are starting to think about summer vacations and honestly now is the time to start planning. Just to let you know that Travel Agents still exist and FYI they can do all the leg work for you. My husband just happens to be one. (shhh, he doesn't know I'm drumming up business for him

It is Tuesday morning, the 12th of April, 2022 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. If we go straight to Luke 13, I am reading from verse 34. Jesus said:“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate; and [k]assuredly, I say to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!' ”You and I are so loved by God, so very loved. There is a little church on the slopes of the Mount of Olives, it sits directly opposite the Temple Mount. You have to walk down the Mount of Olives until you get to the Kidron Valley and then up the other side to reach the Temple Mount where Solomon built the Temple. Jesus would have sat there and wept over Jerusalem. He knew what was coming, not only to the city but right up to this very present day that we are living in.He wants to tell us this morning that He is here to love and protect us, just like the mother hen protects her little chicks. I heard a beautiful story many years ago. In the mighty Drakensburg Mountains when the men were burning firebreaks as winter was approaching. These firebreaks were to stop fire from spreading. Men were walking along the firebreaks they had burnt and it was just black and charred. They were checking to see that nothing was left smouldering before going home. They saw the burnt remains of a wild bird lying in the path, it was a partridge. It was caught by the fire, its wings were spread out and it was lying there dead. When they turned it over there was a little clutch of chicks, alive and well. She had protected her chicks with her very life.Oh, my dear friend, that is what Jesus wants to do for you and me as we remember Him at this Easter Time. Today, allow Him to protect you and to look after you.Have a wonderful day.Jesus bless you and goodbye.

Regaining the High Ground Guest: Barbara Rainey From the series: Reclaiming Easter (Day 2 of 4)Air date: March 17, 2015 Bob: The cross is the universal symbol of the Christian faith; but through the years and in different countries, all around the world, there have been different styles of crosses that have represented Christianity. Barbara Rainey says, “That's a good thing.” Barbara: Jesus is universal—He's not American / He's not Western. He's for everyone—from every tongue, and every tribe and every nation, from every era. I wanted to have crosses that were international—that sort of brought us back to the idea that Jesus is for all people, for all time. Christ has been pushing into country after country, around the world, since He left us. The message is continuing to go on into every nation and every language. Bob: This is FamilyLife Today for Tuesday, March 17th. Our host is the President of FamilyLife®, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine. This is the season of the year when all of us should be surveying the wondrous cross. We'll talk on today's program about how we can make the cross more central to our celebration of Easter. Stay tuned. 1:00 And welcome to FamilyLife Today. Thanks for joining us on the Tuesday edition. The guy, who leads worship at our church, knows that, on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, he is going to be leading two hymns: “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come” and— Dennis: I want to guess! It's one of the Gettys' songs. Bob: No. Dennis: Really!? Bob: “We Gather Together.” Dennis: But you're kind of a Getty groupie. Bob: I would not call me a groupie. [Laughter] Dennis: A Getty groupie—that kind of has a sound to it; doesn't it? Bob: I am—I have a great appreciation for their work, and we sing a lot of their hymns in our worship service. But on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, it's always “We Gather Together” and “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come.” 2:00 The next Sunday, which is always the first Sunday of Advent, we always sing, “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” and we sing “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus.” You have to sing those on the first Sunday in Advent. On Palm Sunday, which is coming up, here in a couple of weeks—on Palm Sunday, we always sing “All Glory, Laud, and Honor, to Thee Redeemer King.” Do you remember that song? It's about the kids and the palm branches. [Singing] “All glory, laud, and honor to Thee, Redeemer King!” Have you heard this? Dennis: Vaguely. Barbara: Yes! Bob: [Singing] “…to whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring.” There is something about those traditions. Michael, the worship leader, is very gracious to indulge us older folks who say, “We have to sing these things.” [Laughter] There's something about those traditions that are rich with meaning. Barbara: That's right. Dennis: No doubt about it. And the voice you're hearing say, “Amen,” over here is my wife, Barbara. 3:00 Welcome back to the broadcast. Barbara: Thank you. Dennis: The most requested guest we have on FamilyLife Today. In fact— Bob: Dennis requests you every time he can. He says, “Can we have Barbara on some more?” [Laughter] Dennis: Yes! No doubt about it. [Laughter] We're all about Easter and wanting to regain the high ground— Bob: Yes. Dennis: —the holy ground for the Easter season. You've got a big idea, Barbara. It's all about contrasting what Christmas is all about with Easter—just kind of calling families to focus on something really fresh and new this Easter season. Barbara: Well, my big idea is that God would grant us the favor in helping us, as believers, raise our awareness of the importance of the holiday of Easter. We put so much energy, money, time, and effort into Christmas—and there's nothing wrong with that—but, by comparison, we spend very little time, very little money, very little energy, and very little preparation to celebrate the greatest moment of history, which is Resurrection Sunday. 4:00 I'm hopeful that, over the course of time, as God grants favor, that we can help believers understand the importance of this holiday—the magnificence of what Christ has done for us—and then help them understand some new and fun ways that they can celebrate that day and make it meaningful because, as you just said, Bob, it's their traditions that help tie those things to hearts. The more our kids understand the truth of why we celebrate / why we do what we do, the more it becomes embedded in their hearts and in their souls. They go: “This is important! This has to mean something; otherwise, Mom and Dad and the other adults wouldn't have made such a big deal about it.” Dennis: You know, we spend the entire month of December preparing for Christmas Day—it's all about giving. You think we need to be spending the weeks, leading up to Easter, focusing on what theme around Easter? Barbara: Focusing on the theme of forgiveness. 5:00 Forgiveness is something we all need. We all need it, individually, because we all have offended God, at our core, because of our selfishness. We all, individually, need forgiveness. Every one of us needs forgiveness, and we need to understand how it works—we need to understand how to give it / how to grant it—we need to understand the whole process because, in relationships with people, we need to practice forgiveness—so in your marriage / in your home with your kids—your kids need to learn how to forgive one another—at school with kids on the playground, and classmates, and bullies, and teachers who aren't fair, and all of that stuff—business relationships. We all need to understand and practice forgiveness—those of us who are called by Christ—focusing on forgiveness at Easter because of what Christ did for us and then the practical application into our lives of how we can be better forgivers. Dennis: And I think that's what a family is all about—that is following Christ—is learning how to forgive and love people, just as God, in Christ, loved and forgave us. 6:00 Bob: And this is something that has been a passion of yours for—well, it's a growing passion—because I've heard you talk about this pretty much every spring for the last couple of years, at least. Barbara: Right. Bob: You have been raising the banner on Easter— Barbara: Yes. Bob: —and saying: “Let's draw some attention to this holiday. Let's use it as a discipling tool in our home.” Barbara: Yes. Bob: And not just for our kids because our hearts need to be drawn back to this theme as well. Barbara: Oh, absolutely. Yes, I think that it is a growing thing for me—it is a growing passion that I have. When our children were little, I remember wanting to make more of Easter and wanted to do more for Easter; but I didn't really know what to do, and I was so busy and overwhelmed, and so I couldn't—I didn't do anything. Dennis: So you've created something called Behold the Lamb. Barbara: Yes. After our kids left, I had the time and the freedom to be able to think creatively, “What would I have liked to have had, when I was a mom, raising kids?” 7:00 One of the things that we created is Behold the Lamb. It comes in this cute little metal tin—inside are eight cards. What I like about those is—I can picture myself doing that with my kids, when they were at home and they were growing up, because each of them have a very short little lesson—I guess, for lack of a better word—that you can probably read in three minutes/four minutes. It doesn't take very long. Dennis: I've done it with our grandkids. Barbara: Yes. Dennis: They're all around the statements that Christ made: “I AM.” Barbara: Exactly. Dennis: “I am the Messiah,” “I am the Bread of Life,” “I am the Light of the World,” “I am the Door.” I took one of our grandkids through this—it took me less than five minutes. I know because my grandchild stayed on my lap the entire time and didn't crawl off. Barbara: Yes. Dennis: It was interesting that you were able to communicate the importance of what it meant when Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life,” in a practical way to him—or her—and bring them into the celebration of Easter. Barbara: Yes; it gives moms and dads something that's very easy to do— 8:00 —pick out a card, read a card as the kids are packing their lunches or you're eating breakfast or whatever. Just read it very quickly or have one of your kids read it while you're driving in the car to school. It sort of sets the tone, not only for the day, but it's a way to do something meaningful every day of Holy Week, leading up to Easter. Bob: Yes. You mentioned there are eight of these cards. The thought would be that you could get the cardholder out— Barbara: Yes. Bob: —on Palm Sunday. Barbara: Yes. Bob: That would be when you would read the first of the eight cards. Barbara: That's correct. Bob: One a day; and then, on Easter Sunday, eight days later, you get to “I am the Resurrection and the Life.” You get a chance to unfold the resurrection of Christ; right? Barbara: Correct. What it does is—it allows you, as parents, to engage your kids in the meaning of Easter on those days leading up to Easter. There's something to read every day for those eight days up until Easter Sunday. Bob: Is this something you can read to a five-year-old, or a ten- year-old, or a fifteen-year-old? 9:00 Barbara: I think you can read to as young as a five year-olds, yes—through eighteen. You know, the eighteen-year-olds—I don't think they're going to be bored by it because it's short—they're not going to roll their eyes and go, “Oh, it's another story about David and Goliath!” These are stories about what Christ did each of the days of His last week of life. So, when you look at that and you think about Jesus coming into the Temple, an eighteen-year-old/sixteen-year-old—they can imagine what that might have been like because He knew He was about to be executed. Bob: Yes. Barbara: As you lead your children into thinking about these, you just don't know, when they get off the bus or when they're walking between classes, what they're thinking about. It's a way to invest, spiritually, in your children, leading up to Easter. Dennis: You actually got an email from a radio listener—. Barbara: I did! Dennis: —who wrote quite a story about a little boy by the name of Nathan. Barbara: Nathan, yes. 10:00 His mom wrote a really long story about the whole process, but the bottom line is that she used the Behold the Lamb cards. As God would have it, when they read the Palm Sunday story, Nathan decided that that was the impetus for him wanting to receive Christ. Dennis: Yes, I'm reading it. The little boy turned to his mom and said: “Mom, you're talking about things that are eternal. When I die, will I go to heaven?” So it gave the mom an opportunity to talk about how Jesus is the door—He is the way, the truth, and the life. He's how you get to heaven, and you can have a personal relationship with Him. She led him to Christ, at that point. It was the end of a lot of conversations she had had with that little boy. Barbara: Yes. Bob: These cards can go back in the card holder, but you've also—you've got—what is it?—a chain? Barbara: Yes; if you buy it, it comes with what we call a “chain garland.” It's a chain that has 15 little metal clips. You can clip the cards on the chain and hang it on your fireplace mantle or you can hang it on a wall—or you can put little push pin tacks on the wall and hang it on that. It's a way that you can—almost like counting down the days to Christmas. 11:00 You hang up a card, one each day, until Easter Sunday. Bob: Yes. Barbara: Kids like that. Kids like counting down the days until—I mean, they count the days until their birthday, they count down the days until school is out, and they count down the days until they can go to camp. There's something about building anticipation that's important for all of us. As you read these cards and you hang them up, one by one, you're building the sense of anticipation for the grand finale, which is Easter Sunday. It helps prepare kids' hearts for understanding that this is really a big deal. Bob: I was counting down the days to the jelly beans. Barbara: Yes, jelly beans at Easter. Bob: You didn't like jelly beans?! Barbara: No, I didn't like jelly beans. Bob: Did you like— Barbara: Chocolate eggs! [Laughter] Dennis: You've got to keep in mind that this was before they created the kind of jelly beans they have today. Bob: The gourmet jelly beans! Dennis: Yes, no doubt about it. Barbara: Well, I might have liked the gourmet jelly beans, but I didn't like the originals. [Laughter] Bob: In addition to the garland that's hanging in the home—that is reminding you that Easter is just around the corner, you also have designed crosses. 12:00 Listeners, who were listening at Christmastime, remember that we talked about seven crosses/ornaments that could be hung on your Christmas tree. They're called Adorenaments®. Barbara: Yes. Bob: You actually had Easter in mind when you made the Christmas ornaments; right? Barbara: We did because the thing about the names of Christ that I think is so important is that we need to know the names of Christ every day of the year, not just at Christmas or not just at some other holiday. We need to be reminded of who He is and what He has done for us. When we created the crosses, we wanted to be able to find a way for them to be displayed at Easter. As we decorate our homes for Christmas, we wanted to have some things that people could put up at Easter that, again, are visual reminders that help us remember what the Easter holiday is all about. We have a set of three crosses for Easter. You can put them on your dining room table and create a really nice arrangement, say on Palm Sunday, and it is there all week. 13:00 It's a reminder to the family, all week long, that: “This is Easter week,” / “This is Holy week. This is really a big deal.” You can put them on your kitchen counter—you can line them up in a window or put them on the fireplace mantle. The sky's the limit, really, as to how you want to use them. Bob: You're not hanging them on a tree Barbara: No. Bob: You've got stands for them— Barbara: Yes. Bob: —so they can sit on the stands. They're three different heights— Barbara: Yes, they're graduated heights. Bob: —so there's a little bit of an artistic touch to it; right? Barbara: Exactly! That was very nice of you—I appreciate that. [Laughter] Dennis: And the cool thing about this is—when Barbara set out to create Adorenaments, she did so around the names of Christ. The first year was around His Christmas names, from Luke and Isaiah. Barbara: Yes. Dennis: The next year was His royal names—each of the Adorenaments is in the shape of a different crown. This year, you've chosen different crosses from different periods/different eras of church history. Each of these three crosses bears a different name. 14:00 Barbara: Correct. One of the reasons that—it was really fun to do, I have to say—to do the research on all the different kinds of crosses. If you've not ever done it, just google “crosses” and look at how many different shapes, and sizes, and designs there are. It's very fascinating, but it was fun to do the research. Part of the reason I wanted to do it is because Jesus is universal—He's not American / He's not Western. He's for everyone—from every tribe, and every tongue, and every nation—from every era. I wanted to have crosses that were international—that sort of brought us back to the idea that Jesus is for all people, for all time. We have a Celtic cross. We have an Armenian cross. We have an Ethiopian cross. We have the Jerusalem cross. The idea is— Dennis: One of them is right here—it's the anchor cross. Barbara: Oh, yes. I forgot the anchor cross. The idea is that each shape of the cross also has history to it because Christ has been pushing into country after country, around the world, since He left us. The message is continuing to go on into every nation and every language. 15:00 Bob: The three names that you've selected to display at Eastertime are Great High Priest, Mediator, and Messiah. Barbara: Yes, correct. Bob: Messiah is one we all know—Jesus is the Messiah. That's pretty common. Barbara: Yes. Bob: But I'm not sure that people really stop and think about what it means that Jesus was—and is—the Messiah, the Promised One of God. Barbara: Yes. What is so interesting is that Jesus was promised, from the very beginning. I don't think that's as common to all of us, as believers, as it should be. From the very beginning, He was promised—the Jewish people knew it. They knew He was promised, and they looked for centuries for the coming Messiah. They knew that the Messiah was going to come and deliver them. Messiah actually means “Anointed One” in Hebrew. It also means “Savior.” The term, “Messiah,” was a term that was used often in the Bible to refer to this “Coming One.” 16:00 We know Him as Jesus—Jewish believers know Him as Jesus. But most of the Jews do not know who He is yet—they still think He is yet to come. Bob: Jews in the Old Testament had developed a picture of who the coming Messiah would be—what He would look like / what He would act like. Barbara: Yes. Bob: It was really just one aspect of His Messianic ministry. Barbara: Yes, the Jews in the Old Testament thought the Messiah was going to come as a conquering King—He was going to deliver them. They had been oppressed over, and over, and over again. They really hung onto those prophecies of Him coming as their deliverer; but they overlooked the fact that Jesus is also spoken of, in the Old Testament, as one who was going to come and be their “Suffering Servant.” He was also going to be their sacrifice. That missed their eyes and their understanding—most of them. Bob: Which is why—when Jesus was declared as the Messiah /when people said, “Could He be the Messiah?” others looked and said, “No, He can't be because He's not here with a sword.” 17:00 Barbara: —“with a sword.” Bob: “He's not here on a horse, charging in and toppling political structures.” Barbara: Yes. Dennis: “He's not a politician.” Bob: There is a day coming when He'll come on a horse with a sword. Barbara: He will! That's right. Bob: So His Messianic ministry will fulfill that picture. Barbara: Yes. Bob: But they missed the first coming; didn't they? Barbara: They did. That's a part of why Easter is such a wonderful celebration because we, not only celebrate what He did for us on the cross, but we celebrate that He's coming back because that first part of what He was to do is fulfilled and now we're waiting on the second part—we're waiting on Him to come back again. I think, at Easter, we not only celebrate what He did for us in the past, but it's a time to look forward to what He is going to do in the future. It may be a very near future too. We've been waiting for a long time, and it may be just around the corner. That makes celebrating Easter even more fun. 18:00 Dennis: It does. And I don't think I've asked you, even though I watched you create these: “Why did you pick the anchor cross?”—which is really pretty interesting; isn't it Bob? I don't think I'd ever seen this until Barbara created this—but it's a cross that, literally, is in the shape of an anchor—I didn't know there was one. “Where did you find it; and why did you decide to put ‘Messiah' on that cross?” Barbara: Well, two answers to that question. As I was looking through for different shapes of crosses, I found the anchor cross. When I saw it, I remembered that, when I was a child and I went through confirmation class in my church—I don't know if it was my parents or somebody else—but somebody gave me a charm for my charm bracelet. Charm bracelets were really a big deal then. The charm consisted of three small charms, all looped together on one ring. There was a cross, which represented faith; there was a heart, which represented love; and then there was an anchor. At the time, I had no idea what the anchor meant; but I came to learn that the anchor represents hope. In 1 Corinthians, we hear “faith, hope, and love, these three.” 19:00 So, faith is the cross, love is the heart, and the anchor is hope. There's a verse in Hebrews, where it talks about Jesus being “the anchor of our soul.” It talks about—we have hope because of Jesus being the anchor. It was just obvious to put “Messiah” on the anchor cross because the Messiah is our Savior—He is our hope / He is our anchor. Because of Him, we can be sure and we can have a steadfast faith that will not waver because of what He has done for us. Bob: Each of these ornaments that you can display on a stand—there is a card for each one that explains, not only the name that's displayed, but a little bit about the cross. If your kids are looking and say, “That looks like an anchor,” you have an opportunity, as a mom or a dad to say, “Well, let me read this to you,” and explain to them what's going on. Barbara: Yes; because I think we have lost—in the modern church, we have lost a lot of our historical Christianity. The anchor cross has been around almost since the time of Christ. 20:00 It's been around for a long, long time. I had forgotten all about it. I don't think too many people even know what it stands for and why it's important. I think we need to recapture some of that. I'm hopeful that the focus on Jesus as our Messiah and He is also our anchor—He holds our faith steadfast because of what He does—I hope that becomes more common knowledge in the church as we talk about who He is and what He did. Dennis: And I think one of the things we don't talk a lot about today is the Savior's different names. You know, each of these names gives us a different facet. It's almost like He is a diamond and each of these names is a facet of His glory and of His character. You come to know Him by virtue of His names, and what He's like, and who He is—then, passing those names onto our children to introduce them to Him as well. 21:00 Messiah gets at the heart of the issue. He came to save us from our sins—that's what Easter is all about. Bob: And I really think people need to get a visual of what we've been talking about. I mean, we can describe the resources you've been working on, Barbara, but folks need to see what these crosses look like—what the anchor cross looks like, and what the Ethiopian cross looks like, and the stands that they can hang on, and the other resources that you've been working on. There's the Easter banner—there's the Behold the Lamb chain with the cards that attach to that. You've got a lot of Easter resources that you've been working on. Barbara: Yes. Bob: If folks go to EverThineHome.com, they can see the complete collection. We've put a website together so that folks can see all that you've been doing. Again, it is EverThineHome.com to see FamilyLife's collection of resources that have been designed by Barbara Rainey. 22:00 You can also call if you have any questions about these resources, or you can order over the phone. Our toll-free number is 1-800-FL-TODAY. That's 1-800-“F” as in family, “L” as in life, and then, the word, “TODAY.” Or, again, go to the Ever Thine Home website, which is EverThineHome.com. You know, we have talked, for years, here on FamilyLife Today, about how strategic holidays can be in a family's life—how you can take advantage of these naturally-occurring dates on a calendar to share biblical truth with your kids—use as a discipling opportunity. In fact, it was a couple of decades ago that we developed a resource called Resurrection Eggs® that puts symbols from Holy Week in these 12 eggs and allow children to learn the Easter story by opening these eggs, one egg at a time, and learning what the donkey means, and learning why there's a crown of thorns, or learning why there are nails included in the eggs. 23:00 We've heard some great stories about how parents and grandparents have used this resource with their children, their grandchildren, neighbor kids, kids at school. We thought, this year, we'd love to send a set of Resurrection Eggs to any listener who will put these eggs to good use. If you'd like a set, all we would ask is that you would make a donation to help support this ministry; and we are happy to send a set to you. We are listener-supported—we depend on your donations to do the work we do. If you will go to FamilyLifeToday.com, and click the link that says, “I CARE,” and make an online donation—be as generous as you can possibly be—we will send you a set of Resurrection Eggs as our thank-you gift for your financial support. Again, the website: FamilyLifeToday.com. Click the link that says, “I CARE,” and make an online donation; or call 1-800-FL-TODAY. Make your donation over the phone and request a set of Resurrection Eggs. 24:00 Of course, you can mail a donation to FamilyLife at PO Box 7111, Little Rock, AR. Our zip code is 72223. Make sure you let us know that you are interested in a set of Resurrection Eggs when you mail a donation, and we'll get them mailed to you. And we hope you can join us again tomorrow when we're going to talk more about the names of Jesus that we ought to be meditating on as we head toward the celebration of His resurrection. I hope you can tune in for that. I want to thank our engineer today, Keith Lynch, along with our entire broadcast production team. On behalf of our host, Dennis Rainey, I'm Bob Lepine. We will see you back next time for another edition of FamilyLife Today FamilyLife Today is a production of FamilyLife of Little Rock, Arkansas. Help for today. Hope for tomorrow.
