TVC 685.1: Ed and guest co-host Chuck Harter welcome author, voice artist, radio host, and Laurel and Hardy historian Randy Skretvedt. Randy's latest book, March of the Wooden Soldiers: The Amazing Story of Laurel & Hardy's Babes in Toyland, is a detailed, behind-the-scenes look at the making of March of the Wooden Soldiers (1934), the adaptation of the Victor Herbert operetta Babes in Toyland (which, in fact, was the title of Wooden Soldiers when it was originally released) that not only has remained a holiday tradition on television since the early 1950s, but was reportedly Stan Laurel's favorite film of the ones with he did with Oliver Hardy. Topics this segment include how March of the Wooden Soldiers was originally intended as an Eastertime release in 1934, as well as the many delays that plagued the production of the movie. March of the Wooden Soldiers: The Amazing Story of Laurel & Hardy's Babes in Toyland is available from Bonaventure Press.

It's been a hot summer, and Derek is already looking forward to the cooler weather coming later this year. To help get into that cooler-weather-mood, Monster Kid Radio is celebrating Christmas in July with 1934's March of the Wooden Soldiers (dir. Gus Meins, Charley Rogers). Also known as Babes in Toyland, this Laurel & Hardy vehicle actually takes place in the month of July AND it does have monsters (technically), so when Steve Turek joins Derek to tackle this movie this week, it (technically) fits into the Monster Kid Radio wheelhouse (technically). Also, Jeff Polier has another Weird Wednesday Report, and Brenda reads the newest Michael Dodd's Vault of Monster Collectibles. For our 2nd Annual Christmas Special we celebrate two movies that couldn't be more different...would you expect anything different from HYSTO??? Our first film is my choice, the 1974 proto-slasher "Black Christmas" (also known as "Silent Night, Evil Night")...Pauls pick is the Laurel and Hardy flick "March of the Wooden Soldiers" from 1934 (also known as "Babes in Toyland"). But before we talk about that, our friend Jonathan pays a visit as we talk about seeing "The Disaster Artist" on the big screen. Join us for the holiday cinema madness, won't you? No Lex this week, he's still on vacation. Jon's daughters are fans of Little Big Planet. Moltz's son is hoping to get Lego Dimensions this year. Moltz will, sadly, not be playing Star Wars Battlefront on a shiny new Playstation 4 this year. Moltz reminisces about March of the Wooden Soldiers which he feels is what a joke in this Simpsons episode is based on. There's yet another trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Carrie Fisher did a terrific interview on Good Morning America. This brings us to an Ewok-themed t-shirt.
