The DescriptionIn this inspiring follow-up conversation, I speak once again with ultra-runner Jamie Vidler, fresh from completing his extraordinary 250k ultra challenge across the Pembrokeshire coastal paths. Over five days of mainly relentless mud, wind, and rain - with just one sunny day to start - Jamie not only faced the brutal physical demands of the terrain but also confronted the internal challenges that long-distance endurance brings.Running this ultra wasn't just about distance, it was about raising awareness and funds for Big Moose, a charity dedicated to providing free therapy for those who need it but cannot afford it.Alongside his full-time corporate job in retail and his ongoing training as a breathwork coach, Jamie found the time and commitment to prepare for this immense challenge. In our conversation, he shares the lessons of resilience, the deep inner awareness that emerged, and the reflections that only an experience of this intensity can bring. This is a story of endurance, growth, and the power of pushing beyond what we think is possible, both in body and in mind. For more information on Jamie's ultra running, and how to donate have a look here:

Ever wondered what nonprofits can and can't do when it comes to politics? On today's episode of Charity Therapy, Meghan and I are diving into the tricky world of political activities for 501c3 nonprofits. We'll chat about the dos and don'ts of voter engagement, why 501c3s can't endorse candidates, and how 501c4s have more wiggle room in the political arena. Plus, we touch on the buzz around the Heritage Foundation and Project 2025. Spoiler: it's more complicated than you think! We also tackle some common misconceptions about how the IRS handles complaints about nonprofits. It's not as simple as just filling out a form and sending it off. We'll talk about the reality of IRS oversight, the importance of detailed documentation, and why state attorney generals might be your best bet if you suspect a nonprofit is up to no good. If you've ever wondered how to properly report nonprofit misconduct, this episode is a must-listen. By the end of our chat, you'll have a clearer understanding of the rules nonprofits need to follow, and you might even find some humor in the chaos of IRS paperwork (yes, really!). Grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and let's navigate these nonprofit political regulations together. In this episode, you will hear: The political dos and don'ts of 501c3 nonprofits 501c4s have way more freedom in politics than 501c3s Can you really shut down Project 2025 by filing a complaint with the IRS? Why filling out Form 13909 isn't a magic wand The IRS is like a turtle while, state attorney generals are more like watchdogs How a TikTok-driven complaint tsunami can further slow down the IRS File real evidence against a nonprofit with both the IRS and the state attorney general Resources from this Episode IRS Form 13909: www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f13909.pdf Sign up for the Birken Law Email list: birkenlaw.com/signup Facebook page: www.facebook.com/birkenlaw Follow and Review: We'd love for you to follow us if you haven't yet. New York's Tribeca FIlm Festival saw the debut of The Solace of Sisterhood this past weekend. It's a new documentary about an all-female motorcycle crew from New Orleans. The film shines a spotlight on the riders, known as the Caramel Curves, as they defy societal expectations, chase adventure and embrace personal freedom. For more on this film and the story behind this organization of riders, we spoke with one of the Caramel Curves co-founders, Shanika “Tru” Beatty and one of the film's directors, Geneva Peschka. In New Orleans, art isn't a hobby. It's a lifestyle. Christian Davenport, better known by his stage name, Cubs the Poet, really embodies this idea. Cubs started out as a street poet, writing poems for passersby on his antique typewriter. Over the years, he's worked with major brands like Hennessy, given TED Talks, and even had a special Port Orleans Brewing Company lager called “A Love Poem To… Black People” that raised money for Black artists in New Orleans. He also served as the first poet laureate of Baton Rouge. Now, he's taking his show on the road, with a tour called “Free Therapy.” And he'll perform a special Juneteenth show at the Fillmore New Orleans on June 19 to kick off the tour.Cubs sat down with the Gulf States Newsroom's Drew Hawkins to talk about his approach to poetry____Today's episode of Louisiana Considered was hosted by Karen Henderson. This week, Father Cooper sits down with Laren (that bitch still hasn't left) in an attempt for redemption. The girls have put down the bottle and picked up … a book? After reading (a chapter) of Esther Perel's Mating in Captivity, the pair get serious and analyze their own lives while contemplating the question, can passion and stability coexist in a relationship? The duo discusses a spectrum of dating topics ranging from being single to taking accountability within a relationship. It's hard to tell where book club ends and girl talk (free therapy?) begins but this week every topic is tackled… dating, friendship and life.
