Send us a textTRIGGER WARNING- For those of you who do not know, this case involves the death of a beautiful, smart, precious, not even 3 year old little girl, and her piece of trash narcissistic egg donor; Casey Anthony. This episode is kinda of, filled with a fair amount of rage...I am angry at the jury, I do not like Jose Baez, and I hate Casey Anthony. Even, just writing up the description for this episode, evoked a rage in me. So, if you are one of those folks who send us emails, about not liking the swearing in the pod.... this may not be a good one for you. I did the best I could, considering the demon that I am speaking about. In 2008- 22 year old Casey Marie Anthony, made headlines, after authorities learned that her, nearly 3 year old daughter Caylee had been missing for 31 days. According to Casey, Caylee had been taken by her nanny of- between 1.5-2 years; Zenaida Fernadez Gonzalez. Casey would say that Zenaida, or 'Zanny the nanny' as she would come to be known, would tell Casey that she does not appreciate what she has, leading Casey to believe, that she had taken her daughter, to teach Casey a lesson, for being a bad mom......... but there was only one problem with that........ just kidding, there is literally 50 problems with that! Casey lies about absolutely EVERYTHING, but never thinks past the initial lie!!So, why in 2011 was she acquitted of 1st degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated manslaughter?? enter: Jose Baez- a new criminal defence attorney. Had only been an attorney for about 5 years at the time that Casey's trial took place. And, don't worry, I read his book: PRESUMED GUILTY, so that you don't have to.There is no denying Jose is great at what he does. Right away, he will show the jury everything that the prosecution is going to show them, trying to get a conviction, and he will down play all of it. He also plants a different idea of something that COULD have happened, regardless of if he pulled that theory straight out of his ass or not.. and it didn't hurt that they had to pick a jury of 12 people who hadn't watched or read the news, or flipped through a magazine in 3 years... they wanted jurors, who did not have a preconceived notion on Casey's guilt or innocence (IMO- idiots. but what do I know...)We will also go through the most recent documentaries; Peacocks 3 part interview with Casey herself... what a smouldering heap of trash that was.And even more recently, George and Cindy (Casey's parents) in 2024, watched and responded to the Peacock documentary, and Cindy finally has some hard hitting words Casey. Both part of this will be available right away on our patreon, but if you need a breather between them, part 2 will be up next Tuesday.Support the showIf you're interested in receiving bonus episodes, early release dates, an everything scary sticker and ‘thank you' as well as a shout out on our regular feed! In this episode we'll be going through the time period after Casey's arrest on July 16th and before her arraignment on October 14th. We'll also be hearing her jail house visits, the Timer55 Theory, George and Cindy's media interviews and media appearances as well as talking about missing children's cases and how they play out in the media, and meeting a new character of this story Nancy Grace. When we last left off it was July 17th and Casey was booked into The Orange County Jail. She'd been arrested less than 24 hours after her mother Cindy had made three 911 calls, the last one frantically explaining “my granddaughter has been taken she's been missing for a month, my daughter admitted to me she's been missing for a month I just found my daughter But I can't find my granddaughter. I found my daughters car today and it smells like there's been a dead body in the damn car….This is a three year old little girl… I need to find her,” when police arrived Casey explained to them, she had left Caylee with her longterm nanny Zanny 31 days ago at Sawgrass aparmtments, she met Zanny through co-workers and her closest friends at Universal Studios where she'd worked for four years, when the detectives went to Sawgrass Apartment unit 210 had been empty for months; when Casey led detectives to her office at Universal Studios where she worked as a party planner they hit a literal dead end and told detectives “I don't really work here,” she's interrogated and placed under arrest. She gets her one jailhouse phone call asking for her boyfriend's number, the Anthony's do not realize this will later be played on the news, and she aquires Jose Baez as her attorney. Jose Baez writes in his book that one of the State's biggest mistakes was how quickly Casey was arrested, because once she was lawyered up, that was that she was not talking— but both the prosecutor Jeff Ashton and Jose Baez do offer a reason that made sense to them on the swiftness of the arrest, and that reason was a woman named Melinda Duckett.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/broads-next-door--5803223/support.
Casey Anthony has stepped back onto the scene rebranding herself on TikToks as a "victim advocate" and advocate for her daughter- so I wanted to rerelease this 7 part 20 hour reminder of who she is and what really happened. We're doing the ultimate deep dive on Caylee Anthony & her mom Casey. Join us as we try and gain a broader understanding of how any of this happened. This is part one of a seven part series. The Thirty-One days are often reduced to a series of soundbites but we're going to tell you about each day. In this episode we'll be looking at the disappearance of Caylee Anthony starting with the events of June 16th. We'll go over Casey's phone and computer records as well as testimony from all her friends and family members to form a timeline of what was going on each day and try and give this timeline in the most unbiased way possible while we lay down the ground work for our other episodes. From Casey's job at Universal Studios, her best friend and co-worker Juliet Lewis, her ex co-worker current lover and Zanny's ex-boyfriend Jeffrey Hopkins. The timeline Casey gives Cindy. The discovery of Casey's car abandoned in an Amscot parking lot. The smell. A computer search for full proof suffocation. The three 911 calls Cindy makes. The people Casey spent her time with from boyfriend Tony Lazzaro and what they rented at Blockbuster the night Caylee disappeared, to best friend Amy Hazinga and all those trips to Target. Fusion Ultra Lounge infamous hot body contest photos. Sawgrass Apartments and investigators desperate attempts to find Zanny the Nanny. Ending with Casey's arrest and her first phone call home. In Parts 2 & 3 we will get to know the real Casey while we will explore the media's influence on the case, Jose Baez and Casey's team building their drowning defense and setting their sights on George Anthony while Jeff Ashton and the prosecution start building their case against Casey with chloroform and the car smell, Casey's brief release from prison, Nancy Grace and the nightly news… all while examining the psychology of lying and why we are so fascinated by it. In Parts 5&6 we will focus on the trial and Part 7 will be about the aftermath and all the documentaries that followed You can find us on social media @broadsnextdoor(Originally released in 2023)Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/broads-next-door--5803223/support.

Shanna Gardner, the Florida woman facing first-degree murder charges for her alleged involvement in the murder of Microsoft executive Jared Bridegan, was captured on camera months before her arrest, sharing a tearful account of how she and Jared's second wife, Kirsten, broke the devastating news to their children. Gardner, who has hired prominent defense attorney Jose Baez, had previously spoken to Action Jax, expressing shock at her ex-husband's death and proclaiming her innocence. In a heart-wrenching interview, Gardner recounted the emotional moment when they informed the children about Jared Bridegan's tragic demise. "It was a very quick visit," Gardner revealed, "And we just wanted it very clear that this is to honor his memory. We didn't want too many details. … I think we all can agree that we love the kids, and they needed to be the priority." A year later, Gardner faces severe legal consequences as she stands accused of engineering her ex-husband's murder, which took place in February 2022. On that fateful day, Jared Bridegan had just dropped off their twins at Gardner's Jacksonville Beach residence when he encountered a tire blocking his path. Tragically, he was shot multiple times while investigating the obstruction, with his 2-year-old daughter with Kirsten in the backseat. Gardner's involvement in a bruising custody battle with Jared at the time raised suspicions. To counter these whispers, she gave an interview to "Action Jax" TV station in June 2022, where she vehemently declared her innocence. Recent excerpts from this interview have been released, revealing Gardner's emotional state as she discussed the murder she is now accused of initiating. "I found out in the middle of the night," Gardner said, reflecting on her ex-husband's death. "I was shocked." Her emotions also spilled over when she spoke about the impact of the tragedy on their children, stating, "I can't imagine as children what that kind of news would mean, to have to process that. Much less something that they love, their father." Gardner additionally reminisced about her initial encounter with Jared Bridegan, whom she would later be charged with killing. She revealed they were set up on a blind date in Salt Lake City two decades ago, leading to a fast-paced relationship and eventual marriage. "We got married soon after dating. Within a couple of years, we had twins. Any time kids come into the mix, it's a lot," Gardner said. The legal ramifications of the case have extended beyond Gardner, as her new husband, Mario Fernandez, and a former tenant, Henry Tenon, have also been charged in connection with Jared's murder. The case has garnered significant attention due to the involvement of a prominent Microsoft executive, the emotional toll on the children, and Gardner's hiring of Jose Baez, known for securing an acquittal for Casey Anthony. As the legal proceedings continue, the community remains gripped by the tragic events surrounding Jared Bridegan's death, and the questions surrounding his murder remain unanswered. In the complex and emotionally charged case of Jared Bridegan's murder, a central question looms: Can renowned defense attorney Jose Baez weave his legal expertise into a narrative of innocence for Shanna Gardner Fernandez, Bridegan's ex-wife? This intriguing question was the focal point of a recent episode of "Hidden Killers," where host Tony Brueski and former Federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani explored the intricacies of this high-profile case. Shanna Gardner Fernandez stands accused of first-degree murder in a conspiracy to kill her ex-husband, Jared Bridegan, with the death penalty as a potential outcome. The case, already sensational due to its allegations and the profile of those involved, gained another layer of complexity with the hiring of Baez, known for his role in the Casey Anthony trial. Brueski, setting the stage, pointed out the gravity of the charges and the seemingly 'open and shut' nature of the case, given the hitman's testimony implicating both Gardner and her current husband, Mario Fernandez. Rahmani, bringing his prosecutorial perspective to the conversation, acknowledged Baez's reputation and past successes, including a recent case in Ohio. He emphasized Baez's ability to achieve acquittals in seemingly impossible situations, stating, "You never want to count Jose Baez out." His insight set the stage for a discussion on what legal strategies Baez might employ in a case where the evidence, including a cooperator with a connection to Mario and a clear motive, seems overwhelmingly stacked against the defendants. One potential defense strategy, as Brueski suggested, could have been for either Shanna or Mario to turn on the other. However, with both being tried together, this tactic seems off the table. Rahmani concurred, predicting a united front from the defendants and a likely focus on discrediting the hitman's testimony. He highlighted the advancements in digital forensics, particularly cell phone communications, which could play a crucial role in the case. The conversation then ventured into speculation about the possible narratives Baez might construct. Rahmani noted, "They're going to have some sort of story. Why would someone do this? That really, and again, it's an elaborate trap, right?" He suggested that Baez might weave a story involving external parties or obscure motivations, drawing parallels to the unexpected defense tactics seen in Casey Anthony's case. Brueski and Rahmani agreed that the trial would be a masterclass in defense lawyering, with Baez's creativity and strategic acumen on full display. They emphasized that jurors often seek alternate explanations, and it is here that Baez's skill in crafting compelling narratives could come to the forefront. The conversation highlighted the unpredictability of high-profile criminal trials and the prowess of defense attorneys in navigating them. In conclusion, the Jared Bridegan murder case, with its mix of sordid allegations, high-profile individuals, and a celebrity attorney, presents a legal puzzle that has captivated public interest. As Rahmani astutely noted, "Never underestimate these defense lawyers and creativity." The upcoming trial promises not only to be a legal spectacle but also a deep dive into the strategies that define the most contentious and complex criminal cases. As the trial approaches, one can't help but wonder: Will Jose Baez's legal maneuvering alter the course of this high-stakes case, or will the weight of evidence prove insurmountable? Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
What does it take to navigate the treacherous waters of a high-profile murder case? The podcast "Hidden Killers" hosted by Tony Brueski, with former FBI Special Agent and contributor Jennifer Coffindaffer, recently delved into the complexities surrounding the legal representation in the Jared Bridegan murder case. With the hiring of Jose Baez, a lawyer known for handling contentious cases, the conversation raised critical questions about legal strategy and public perception in cases shrouded in controversy. Jared Bridegan, a Microsoft executive, met a tragic end, and now his ex-wife and her husband face charges for allegedly orchestrating the hit. Brueski opens the discussion by questioning the optics of hiring Baez, a lawyer linked to cases where the gap between legal outcomes and public opinion is notably wide. "Great defense attorney, but optic wise, you know, is this the best thing for them at this moment in time?" he asks, highlighting the delicate balance between legal efficacy and public perception. Coffindaffer, with her extensive FBI background, brings a unique perspective to the conversation. She acknowledges Baez's proven track record, especially in the Casey Anthony case, emphasizing his ability to raise doubts where seemingly none exist. "He's incredible at causing, or at least trying how he makes come to light, any sort of reasonable doubt," she notes, underscoring the pivotal role of a defense attorney in shaping narrative and doubt in a courtroom. The case against Bridegan's ex-wife and her husband is largely circumstantial, but Coffindaffer argues that such evidence can be compelling. She uses a snow analogy to illustrate this point, suggesting that circumstantial evidence can sometimes be stronger than direct evidence. However, she predicts that Baez will skillfully divert attention away from his clients, potentially toward co-conspirators, a strategy often seen in complex legal battles. A significant twist in the case is the admission of the hitman, implicating both Shanna Gardner-Smith and Mario Saldana. This revelation leads Brueski and Coffindaffer to speculate on potential defense strategies, including the possibility of one turning against the other. However, given their intertwined nature, such a tactic seems unlikely. Coffindaffer says, "I can't foresee what roads that they can go down to not have this connection there," highlighting the challenge faced by the defense. The discussion shifts to the art of legal defense, with both hosts agreeing on Baez's expertise in creating narrative shifts and introducing alternative theories. They recall how Baez shifted the narrative in the Casey Anthony case, focusing suspicion on Anthony's father without concrete evidence. Coffindaffer anticipates similar tactics in Bridegan's case, where Baez might introduce another "puppet master" behind the scenes. Brueski and Coffindaffer also touch on the role of financial resources in securing top legal representation. "It helps when you have a lot of money," Brueski remarks, pointing to the influence of wealth in navigating the legal system. The conversation concludes with an acknowledgment of Baez's skills and the anticipation of a compelling legal showdown. "I think this is going to be a very interesting one to watch in terms of a master at his craft," Brueski states, encapsulating the sentiment that the upcoming trial will be as much about legal prowess as it is about uncovering the truth. In closing, the Bridegan case raises profound questions about the legal system and its interaction with public opinion. How will the defense navigate this complex landscape, and what unexpected turns might the case take under the guidance of a lawyer renowned for his strategic acumen? As the case unfolds, these questions linger, underscoring the intricate dance between law, perception, and the quest for justice. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Can the hiring of a high-profile attorney change the course of a seemingly open-and-shut murder case? This is the question that Tony Brueski, host of the podcast "Hidden Killers," and psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott pondered in a recent episode focusing on the murder of Jared Bridegan. The case took a dramatic turn with the involvement of Jose Baez, Casey Anthony's former attorney, known for his legal acumen in controversial cases. Jared Bridegan's tragic demise, allegedly orchestrated by his ex-wife Shanna Gardner and her current husband Mario Saldana, has gripped public attention. Brueski opened the discussion by questioning the implications of hiring Baez, suggesting that such a move might indicate a sense of guilt. "Oh, she's really guilty now because you need to bring in like the David Copperfield of attorneys to try and fix this for you," he remarked, highlighting the public's perception of a legal team's composition in high-stakes cases. Scott agreed, drawing parallels with another attorney known for defending alleged sex offenders and rapists, suggesting that hiring specific lawyers could reinforce public suspicion. However, she acknowledged Gardner's financial resources, which could afford her such top-tier legal representation. Despite the apparent overwhelming evidence against Gardner, Scott and Brueski speculated about the possible defense angles Baez might adopt. An intriguing twist in the case is the joint trial of Gardner and Saldana. Brueski initially thought one might betray the other to prove innocence, but this seemed unlikely with their shared representation. "You can't really do that sort of defense in, when you're connected with the same attorney," he observed, pointing out the complexities in formulating a defense strategy under these circumstances. Scott doubted any plausible alternative defense, given the hitman's admission under a plea agreement that Gardner and Saldana hired him. She pondered whether Baez might introduce other suspects or angles, possibly involving external parties with motives against Bridegan. "Are we going to end up seeing other people brought into this, other accusations of bad acts of someone who wanted to take out this Microsoft executive?" she speculated, considering the potential twists in the trial narrative. The conversation then shifted to the emotional and volatile nature of child custody battles, with Scott suggesting that personality disorders, such as borderline personality, could fuel such extreme actions. "They like to have an enemy. They like to fight. It's not a stretch to see how this could have happened in the way that at this point, it looks like it played out," she explained, offering a psychological perspective on the possible motivations behind the crime. As the case heads to trial, both Brueski and Scott concurred that watching Baez's legal strategy would be akin to a masterclass. Despite the strong circumstantial evidence, Baez's reputation and skill in navigating complex legal waters might introduce unforeseen elements into the trial. In conclusion, the Jared Bridegan murder case, with its high-profile defendants and equally prominent attorney, raises significant questions about the influence of legal representation in the court of public opinion and actual judicial proceedings. Can a reputed attorney like Jose Baez alter the trajectory of a case with seemingly strong evidence against his clients? As the case unfolds, this question remains a focal point of interest and speculation, offering a real-time study in the intricacies of legal defense strategies in high-stakes criminal cases. Have you ever wondered what drives a person to commit the unimaginable? The recent developments in the murder case of Jared Bridegan, a Microsoft executive, bring this question to the fore. In a revealing episode of "Hidden Killers," hosted by Tony Brueski with retired FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke, the convoluted layers of this high-profile case were dissected, offering insights into the human psyche and the dark underbelly of revenge and wealth. Jared Bridegan's murder has remained a topic of intense scrutiny, more so with his ex-wife, Shanna Lee Gardner, switching attorneys to Jose Baez, known for representing Casey Anthony. Brueski notes the questionable optics of this decision, stating, "Nothing says innocent like saying, I need Jose Baez to represent me because the cards are very stacked against me." The implication here is stark – the switch to a high-profile attorney in a case already mired in controversy adds another layer of suspicion. Dreeke and Brueski delve into the psychology behind such crimes. They discuss the concept of 'wound collectors,' individuals who blame others for their grievances, potentially leading to extreme actions like hiring a hitman. In Gardner's case, a prolonged custody battle over her children with Bridegan is highlighted as a possible motive. "Why is she battling so hard for the kids to the point where she was willing to hire a hitman to kill her ex-husband?" Brueski ponders, pointing out the perplexity in her actions. The hosts critically analyze the execution of the hit itself, labeling it as "incredibly stupid" and poorly planned. The tragedy, however, extends beyond the botched execution to the children left fatherless, a point both Brueski and Dreeke emphasize. Bridegan was portrayed as a devoted father, further complicating the narrative around Gardner's alleged involvement. Furthermore, the involvement of Gardner's new husband, Mario Saldana, adds another twist. Charged earlier in the summer, his role and motivation remain a puzzle. "What would be his motivation?" Brueski questions, suggesting that perhaps Gardner's complaints about her ex-husband might have triggered Saldana's actions. The conversation then shifts to a broader contemplation of human behavior in such scenarios. Dreeke, with his background in behavioral analysis, offers a profound insight: "Everyone is extremely predictable, even her, if she's guilty. We will always act in her own best interests in terms of safety, security, and prosperity for our own perspective." He stresses the need to understand what Gardner perceived as her best interest, suggesting that her actions, however irrational they might seem, were based on a deeply personal rationale. The hosts also draw parallels with other infamous cases, like Lori Vallow, to underscore the capacity of the human mind to rationalize even the most heinous acts. "It's amazing what the human mind is able to rationalize," Brueski remarks, a statement that echoes throughout the discussion. In closing, the conversation leaves us with another intriguing question: How does one truly understand the actions of individuals like Gardner, if indeed she is guilty? The case of Jared Bridegan not only uncovers the lengths to which individuals might go for perceived justice or revenge but also challenges us to consider the complex and often unfathomable workings of the human mind. As this saga continues to unfold, one can't help but ponder – what are the limits of human rationalization in the face of adversity, and at what point does the pursuit of self-interest cross into the realm of the unthinkable? In 2008, George and Cindy Anthony were worried about their two-year-old granddaughter Caylee. They hadn't seen her in 31 days, and their daughter Casey was being cagey. When Casey's car showed up in a tow yard, along with Caylee's carseat and the distinct smell of human decomposition, they demanded answers. Casey said a nanny named Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzales had taken her, but her story was fraught with lies. Authorities became involved, and the search for Caylee was on. But one person stood in the way of uncovering the truth : her mother, Casey Anthony. Void of tears, Casey changed her story time and time again, going so far as to point the finger at her own father. This media frenzy of a case rocked the nation, breaking the hearts of people near and far. We'll untangle Casey's web of lies and uncover chilling details that are hard to believe. Plus, we'll discuss a haunting detail missed by the prosecution that may have changed the outcome all together. Tune in to find out why Casey Anthony truly is the most hated mother in America. Happy Haunting!
Arrested in Washington State, Shanna Gardner has finally been extradited back to Florida, where she faces charges in a murder-for-hire plot to kill her ex-husband. Gardner together with her current husband, Mario Fernandez Saldana are accused of hiring a hitman to gun down Microsoft executive and father of four, Jared Bridegan. Bridegan was killed in front of his small daughter after being lured out of his car by debris in the road, preventing him from making his way home. The next court date for Gardner and Fernandez-Saldana is scheduled for December 1. Beside Gardner for the hearing will be attorney Jose Baez, known for defending "Tot Mom" Casey Anthony in the death of her daughter who was found not guilty of murder. Gardner and her current husband will be tried together, possibly with separate juries. Over 12 years ago, Casey Anthony walked out of the Orange County jail a free woman. Much of the country watched her murder trial play out on live TV, including the moment the jury found her not guilty, but there were some things happening behind the scenes that you didn't see. The judge at the center of it all, Belvin Perry, joined the hosts of Florida's Fourth Estate to share the experience from his perspective. This includes his thoughts on how Anthony's defense team was able to get her acquitted of first-degree murder in the death of her daughter Caylee Anthony. “Jose Baez, at the time, probably wasn't the sharpest person on the evidence code, but he was well prepared, and he did something that good lawyers do,” Perry said. “Once you determine the makeup of the 12 people in that jury, he tailored his case to fit them. It's just like a great football coach. You go into any game with a gameplan, but you must make adjustments and Baez made those adjustments and he learned how to play to the jury.” The jury was made up of seven women and five men who had to be sequestered for the full length of the trial. Perry said it was a lot of work dealing with a case that would last six to eight weeks with jurors that had to be holed up in a hotel room, but added that the Central Florida community helped to lighten the load. He said the media agreed on the best way to cover the trial and when they found out the jury was staying at Rosen Shingle Creek, “they did not publish it, we had no problem with them following jurors.” He said Harris Rosen also bent over backward to make sure the jurors were well taken care of while being sequestered. “Harris Rosen was just tremendous when we talked to him,” Perry said. “He gave us an excellent deal on the rooms, gave us everything we wanted — even structured the meal prices to fit into the per diem, which is unheard of. They even changed the locks on the doors on the stairwell on the floor that they were on you couldn't access it from the outside.” Perry said there were also times when the pool and exercise facilities were shut down so the jurors could use them uninterrupted. The TVs were also adjusted so the jurors could not watch news shows. Towards the end of the trial, with so many people interested in the case, Perry said the jurors were down to only three channels they could watch. To better cater to the jury, Perry said each one was allowed to have one visitor on the weekends. “They could come on Saturday afternoons, they just had to be out by midnight,” Perry said. The judge had to deal with some fallout from the trial as well. That includes becoming, what felt like, an overnight celebrity. “One day we got out of court and for whatever reason I went by Ross on Michigan and I went in there and I was looking for a picture frame,” Perry said. “When I got home my daughter called me. She said, ‘Daddy someone recorded you in Ross and they posted it on Facebook.'” It didn't end there. Perry said people approached him about the case everywhere he went. Once, a group of people even started recording him while he was eating dinner. “I had to stop going to the grocery store. If I did go eat, I had to eat at certain places where I could be left alone. I couldn't go anywhere,” he said. Still, he said the trial was a great experience for himself and the community. “I think it opened up to the world how the judicial system works,” Perry said. “You got a chance to see firsthand. Most people didn't agree with the outcome of the case, but at least they saw what happened and I think it is very important that courts that are open to the public, that the public gets to see it firsthand.” To hear more about Perry's experience serving as the judge on the Casey Anthony murder trial check out Florida's Fourth Estate. Tory Lanez addressed the court before he received that 10 year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot. He said that he was a friend to Megan and they both bonded over the fact that they lost their mothers. Tory did take full responsibility for his wrongdoing and once again asked for a chance to prove that he had learned his lesson. Tory's lawyer, Jose Baez, is ripping the 10 year sentence, calling it incredibly harsh and extreme, and claiming the rapper is being punished because of his celebrity status. Jose doesn't seem to realize his client is being punished because he shot someone, and Megan is still suffering from it. She did not attend court, but had a statement read by Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney Kathy Ta: "I've been tormented. He paid bloggers to disseminate false information. He treated my trauma like a joke when I could have been dead and he blamed the system. He blamed the press and, as of late, he is using his childhood trauma to justify his actions." Tory is from Canada and it seems like they are not going to extradite him back to Canada. He will probably serve out his sentence here in the United States. We are not sure exactly how long he will be in jail or what the next steps will be. But, in any case, it is just a sad story all the way around. And hey, when you do the crime, you gotta do the time. The rapper's lawyer, Jose Baez, has filed legal documents claiming that prosecutors tried to dirty him up with irrelevant evidence, including a shirtless photo of Tory with a firearm on his chest. Jose Baez writes in his book that one of the State's biggest mistakes was how quickly Casey was arrested, because once she was lawyered up, that was that she was not talking— but both the prosecutor Jeff Ashton and Jose Baez do offer a reason that made sense to them on the swiftness of the arrest, and that reason was a woman named Melinda Duckett. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/broadsnextdoor/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/broadsnextdoor/supportThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5803223/advertisement
We're doing the ultimate deep dive on Caylee Anthony & her mom Casey. Join us as we try and gain a broader understanding of how any of this happened. This is part one of a four part series. In Part 2 we will explore the media's influence on the case, Jose Baez and Casey's team building their drowning defense and setting their sights on George Anthony while Jeff Ashton and the prosecution start building their case against Casey with chloroform and the car smell, Casey's brief release from prison, Nancy Grace and the nightly news… all while examining the psychology of lying and why we are so fascinated by it. In Part 3 we will focus on the trial and Part 4 will be about the aftermath and all the documentaries that followed You can find us on social media @broadsnextdoor More content on Patreon! Caylee Marie Anthony (August 9, 2005 – 2008) was an American girl who lived in Orlando, Florida, with her mother, Casey Marie Anthony (born March 19, 1986), and her maternal grandparents, George and Cindy Anthony. On July 15, 2008, she was reported missing in a 9-1-1 call made by Cindy, who said she had not seen Caylee for 31 days and that Casey's car smelled like a dead body had been inside it. Cindy said Casey had given varied explanations as to Caylee's whereabouts before finally telling her that she had not seen Caylee for weeks. Casey lied to detectives, telling them Caylee had been kidnapped by a nanny on June 9, and that she had been trying to find her, too frightened to alert the authorities.[3] She was charged with first-degree murder in October 2008 and pleaded not guilty. On December 11, 2008, two-year-old Caylee's skeletal remains were found with a blanket inside a laundry bag in a wooded area near the Anthony family's house. Investigative reports and trial testimony varied between duct tape being found near the front of the skull and on the mouth of the skull. The medical examiner mentioned duct tape as one reason she determined the death was a homicide, while the cause of death was listed as "death by undetermined means".The trial lasted six weeks, from May to July 2011. The prosecution sought the death penalty and alleged Casey wished to free herself from parental responsibilities and murdered her daughter by administering chloroform and applying duct tape. The defense team, led by Jose Baez, countered that the child had drowned accidentally in the family's swimming pool on June 16, 2008, and that George Anthony disposed of the body. The defense contended that Casey lied about this and other issues because of a dysfunctional upbringing, which they said included sexual abuse by her father. The defense did not present evidence as to how Caylee died, nor evidence that Casey was sexually abused as a child, but challenged every piece of the prosecution's evidence, calling much of it "fantasy forensics". Casey did not testify. On July 5, 2011, the jury found Casey not guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated manslaughter of a child, but guilty of four misdemeanor counts of providing false information to a law enforcement officer. With credit for time served, she was released on July 17, 2011. A Florida appeals court overturned two of the misdemeanor convictions on January 25, 2013.The not-guilty murder verdict was greeted with public outrage and was both attacked and defended by media and legal commentators. Some complained that the jury misunderstood the meaning of reasonable doubt, while others said the prosecution relied too heavily on the defendant's allegedly poor moral character because they had been unable to show conclusively how the victim had died.Time magazine described the case as "the social media trial of the century".To help support the show, find us on Patreon: patreon.comHWW is now on Discord: https://discord.gg/F9cMyf7JFJTo our amazing listeners. Kenzie and Ame are back with the final installment of the Casey Anthony series on ID's - An American Murder Mystery. This week, we head back to the courtroom and see just how low defense attorney Jose Baez will go to get his client Casey off on the 1st degree murder charge in the death of her 2 year old daughter Caylee. Baez throws doubt on each and every piece of forensic evidence, and make a mockery of any expert the Prosecution had called on for testimony. The jury takes less than 11 hours to come back with a verdict that no one saw coming. But that wasn't the end of legal trouble for alleged child murderer, Casey Anthony. Lawsuits, bankruptcy, and anything else she deserved, came fast & furious. Rumors then began to circulate that she had been paying Baez in unconventional ways when it came to his legal services. In the end, we hear an exclusive interview from her parents, George and Cindy Anthony, and get their opinions on what they think happened to their lovely granddaughter in her final day on Earth.
Ame and Kenzie are back with part 2 of the Casey Anthony series on ID's - An American Murder Mystery. This week, we enter the courtroom and begin the "trial of the century" - or so it was dubbed at the time. Prosecution's Jeff Ashton brings hard forensic evidence to the table in an effort to show the jury just how callous and cold this mother could be to have murdered her toddler child. Casey hires defense attorney Jose Baez to prove her innocence in the alleged killing of young Caylee. We hear testimony from some amazing experts and begin to feel pretty confident that the verdict is in the bag for 1st degree premeditated murder.
A Minneapolis Police use-of-force training instructor testified that Derek Chauvin’s kneeling on George Floyd’s neck is not a trained restraint tactic. Meanwhile, the defense zeroed in on a theory that bystanders distracted the former Minneapolis Police officer. Jose Baez is a criminal defense attorney and successfully represented Casey Anthony when she was on trial for first-degree murder of her 2-year-old daughter. He joins AC360 to discuss the defense’s argument. Plus, the New York Times’ Maggie Haberman is reporting that Rep. Matt Gaetz privately asked the White House for blanket pre-emptive pardons for himself and unidentified congressional allies during President Trump’s final days in office. The Florida Republican is being investigated by the DOJ for allegations that he broke federal sex trafficking and prostitution laws. Haberman tells Anderson Cooper White House officials thought it was bizarre and “knocked it down pretty quicky.” Airtime: April 6, 2021 Guests: Jose Baez Preet BhararaTo learn more about how CNN protects listener privacy, visit cnn.com/privacy

Was justice for Caylee Anthony lost when a jury found her mother, Casey Anothony, innocent in 2011? This week on Solvable Mysteries we discuss the tragic and enraging case of Caylee Anthony, a toddler reported missing and then found dead in a park in suburban Florida in 2008. Her mother, Casey Anthony, had been the primary suspect in her disappearance. Casey Anthony's lies and deceitful behavior resulted in her being tried for her murder in 2011.Welcome to Solvable Mysteries Podcast, hosted by Juras Sim and co-hosted by Glenn Highcove. During this episode we review the disturbing, frustrating details around the tragic death of Caylee Anthony. We discuss the many lies and erratic history of the main suspect in the case, Casey Anthony, who had shown a continuous disregard for both the truth and the safety and wellbeing of her helpless child, Caylee Anthony. We review the facts of the case, the inexplicable "innocent" verdict of the jury, and the actions of the attorney, Jose Baez, who has more recently been part of a successful defense of Aaron Hernandez under similarly damning circumstances. We discuss the many lies and deceptions Casey made in the years and days before Caylee's death. We also speculate as to what kind of mental condition or upbringing might cause a person to act like this, pathologically lying even in the face of obvious discovery. We review why this case has such an emotional impact, as well as what kind of mind might do something like this. Finally, we discuss the actions of her parents before, during, and after the trial, and examine whether everyone in this case got what they deserved. We hope you enjoyed the show, we greatly appreciate any feedback from our listeners, please share your thoughts in the comment section. PETER GOLENBOCK audio excerpt: "7 was Mickey Mantle's life. If people didn't want to agree that was Mickey Mantle's life, they should have kept their mouths shut... Mickey would have loved this book.
