This week, on the podcast, host Eva Hartling speaks with Knoxx, the New York-based creative director for the brand DVMNPIGEON. Knoxx is redefining the rules of streetwear — traditionally a space for straight men — through her identity as a masculine-presenting woman who is part of the LGBTQ2S+ community. In 2011, Knoxx created DVMNPIGEON with the hopes of representing girls like herself, typically left out of the streetwear industry. She caught her big break after being casted in HBO Max's The Hype, a streetwear design competition show, where she quickly made a name for herself thanks to her raw persona and impeccable design talent. She was a stranger to entrepreneurship but knew she had to make a space for women of colour like herself. This season of our podcast is brought to you by TD Canada Women in Enterprise. TD is proud to support women entrepreneurs and help them achieve success and growth through its program of educational workshops, financing and mentorship opportunities! WHAT ABOUT KNOXX? KNOXX the designer went from making her own clothes to owning her own brand — and is making a name for herself in the process. There is something distinctly New York about Knoxx. Of course you notice it in her accent, but it's also in the way she moves, the way she thinks, and the way she designs. It was something the judges of The Hype, the HBO Max streetwear design competition show on which she became a fan favorite, couldn't help but mention. Hailing from Elmira, New York but now based in Los Angeles, the self-taught designer started the brand in 2011 with the original name Damn Pigeon — a slyly cocky reference to the idea of “shitting on the competition.” At the time, the label was part of a new generation of designers fusing cut-and- sew high fashion with the silhouettes and sensibilities of streetwear. Over a decade later, it's still going, making apperances in Vogue and WWD Magazine this year. Her new position as designer and creative director at Los Angles based brand Alte Volant will be a journey you do not wanna miss. Now you got some scoop, come dive into the VIBEZ more on iHeartradio and all major platforms. Come vibe with the P.E.G Family and KNOXX. The VIBEZ are set and unmatched. It's just a vibe ting!!! my hometown hero from Elmira NY, KNOXX is on the pod! catch her on season 2 of HBO's The Hype!we talk about: the ins and outs of being gay in a flop rustbelt town, tommy hilfiger, schoolscum.com, the local mall, Danny G's, Rich Girls on MTV, some behind the scenes tea of The Hype (what is marnie's deal? what is bephie's deal? what is offset's deal?, the truth about Vell's departure, etc), YZY SZN 9, the torture of body-con, sam smith 'Unholy', beyoncé's latest album, beychella, and so much more
(*RE-UPLOAD) (3/7/22) Dermaine share's another poem by the illustrious Gwendolyn Brooks before discussing Ann Tyler's position of writer's perspective. He then talks about the book of the week, The Three-Cornered War before playing a really, really dope track!
Tia interviews artist from the record label baseline. In this interview you will meet Amé, Tray Nova, Tamba and The Black Wonder Twins. You will learn about their journey in the music industry. Amé Growing up in a small town in Central Pennsylvania, Amé always knew she was meant for something bigger. Adopted by pastors, Amé was one of the only two black girls in her town. She frequently experienced the microaggressions associated with being part of the minority in a predominantly white town. These experiences fueled her artistic vision and shaped her desire to be heard, understood, and represented. As soon as she was able to, Amé moved to NYC and continued her journey towards artistic enlightenment. Amé music takes the experiences of her life in small town USA and fuses it with classy, sexy, R&B stylisms. She doesn't shy away from the opportunity to discuss sexuality, desirability, and the intrinsic need to be understood by one's peers and self. Encouraged by her love of family, and the inner strength to keep going, Amé sought out and found her birth family. Through this reconnection, she learned about herself in ways she couldn't have imagined and how music is a part of her identity. Tray Nova Chicago-born, NYC living, Artist, Tray Nova -also known by the name KiDD CHI- is a creative who allows his music to speak for itself. Inspired by some of the greatest Hip-Hop and R&B artists of all time; J.Cole, Nas, Lauryn Hill, and Andre 3000; Nova frequently harkens back to musical standards of the 90s and early 2000s. Considering and appreciating this, Nova makes music that is fresh, timeless, and pleasing to the ear. Nova has shared the stage with some of the most prolific Hip-Hop artists, such as Chance the Rapper, Mac Miller, Kid Ink, and more. His presence in major cities such as Chicago, NYC, Los Angeles, and Honolulu, has continued to enhance his brand and help him make his mark in their music culture. Tamba At only seven years old, Paul Tamba Kpakiwa (professionally known as Tamba), along with his parents and 6 siblings, escaped the Sierra Leonean Civil War, a decades-long civil war, and fled to the United States. In search of a new life, his family moved to an inner-city neighborhood in Harrisburg, PA, where his dreams began. At 15 years old, Tamba began to write music while living in his poverty-stricken neighborhood. Attending a private Catholic school and growing up with the perspective of a refugee helped Tamba grow into a man who can understand the privileged and walk with those who struggle. The capability to rise above his struggles and never stop chasing his dreams gave Knoxx the inner strength to keep going. As a Hip-Hop artist whose musical identity is defined by his experimentation, this is the message wants to pass along to his listeners. Black Wonder Twins Black Wonder Twins are a Hip-Hop duo consisting of twin brothers, Dylan & Jacob who hail from Rockland County, New York. The Black Wonder Twins bring hype and always represent the culture. The brothers have become known for their high octane performances and experimental rap sound. In each of Black Wonder Twins songs, they deliver hard-hitting bars over bursting trap beats, playing off each other in exciting displays of artistry. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tiatalksnyc/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tiatalksnyc/support

After a ton of back and forth rescheduled and postponed interviews, the stars aligned and I was finally able to catch a wave with this water-loving Cancer, Samantha Knoxx. Samantha is a full-time companion based in London, Ontario, Canada who has dabbled in all types of sex work: stripping, erotic massage, sugaring, porn, and now finally finding her niche in escorting. Inbetween her busy touring schedule, Samantha also volunteers her time at SafeSpace, a support centre for sex workers. She is fully immersed in dedicating her time and work to this community so I was thrilled when we were able to gettogether and shoot the shit about current issues concerning sex workers in Canada. Samantha discusses in depth the bill that we've all been dreading in Canada: Bill 251: Combat Human Trafficking Act. For my American listeners, this is the Canadian equivalent of FOSTA/SESTA. We already have some archaic and unjust bills that have become law (ahem, Bill C-36) but we were both surprised that although this bill passed its first reading in February, we were only hearing news of it now. When was our community going to be called upon, addressed or consulted? Because from the sounds of it, it's as if everyone else (in a non-sex working capacity) approved and gave the go-ahead. Keen on hearing more? Then you'll have to tune into this episode with the super articulate, Samantha Knoxx. @samantha_knoxxxoxo twitter.com/SamanthaKn0xx www.samanthaknoxx.com SafeSpace London Butterfly: Stop Bill 251 Don't forget to LIKE, RATE, SHARE, REVIEW and SUBSCRIBE! @strippedbysia @siasteph twitter.com/strippedbysia www.stephsia.com

Riley Knoxx discovered who she wanted to be at the tender age of 5. As a child Riley was known for running around the house with a pillowcase on her head, flashlight in her hand pretending it was a microphone, singing Whitney Houston songs and everyone knew she was special. From that age Riley started to develop her self in music, acting and entertaining. In 2003 Beyonce released her first solo album and her song ”Crazy In Love” was an instant hit. After performing as an illusionist for other artist for many years, at a friend's birthday party Riley performed “Crazy In Love” and quickly became known as "DC's own Beyonce". Intrigued and excited about the positive feedback Riley began studying Beyonce by watching every concert, interview and video to learn more acts and perfect her moves. With her team of dancers, wind machines and mastered choreography Riley will leave you feeling like you were at a Beyonce concert. www.teatimewithmonica.com
