"I was a competitive athlete in my youth. I started my career as an Ironworker at 19 years old. Today I run a large steel erection company. I have been blessed with a beautiful wife of 31 years, this August, and raised two wonderful children. For the last 20 plus years I have focused on being a husband, a father and running my business. While I continue to make them a priority, today I am making time to take on new challenges, such as, Crossfit and opening Invictus Seattle. In 2023, I hope to inspire masters and individuals alike to create their blueprint for success in both CrossFit and life." -Kevin Koester Listeners of the ElkShape Podcast Exclusives:

In today's episode of the "Innovating Together Podcast”, Doug and Bridget are speaking with Dr. Jolene Koester, who is the interim Chancellor of the California State University System. She is also the former president of California State University, Northridge. Dr. Koester discussed the importance of building trust. This is especially true when it comes to leadership. Leaders must build trust in order to lead effectively. Without trust, people will not follow, and the leader will not be successful. She also discusses the importance for leaders to recognize the divide between the system and the campus. This is why it is essential for leaders to spend time with the system office and understand how it works and who the people are. Overall, leadership is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Leaders must be willing to recognize the differences between the system and the university and adjust their approach accordingly. Leaders need to be willing to take risks and make decisions that will benefit their organization. They need to be prepared to face challenges and failure and learn from their mistakes, as well as be open to feedback and criticism, as this can help them become more effective and successful. This will help ensure that the team is working towards a common goal and can achieve success. One of the books that Dr. Koester recommends most often is “The Advantage” by Patrick Lencioni, which discusses the importance of having a small leadership team and avoiding the temptation to add people just to avoid making people feel bad. He also emphasized the importance of finding joy in leadership, as it can be a challenging and demanding role. What you will learn - Build trust to lead effectively Why you should seek advice Leadership requires understanding Why it is important to lead from your values Learn more about Dr. Jolene Koester by visiting: Website Learn more about the UIA by visiting: Website LinkedIn Twitter YouTube Facebook --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/innovationalliance/message

98% of people fail at writing a book but I'm in line to be in the 1% of actually finishing! And it's because I had a great coach by my side as well as being in a fantastic program. By having support I wrote the book I wanted to write, not the one I thought I "should" write. My book coach, Eric Koester, interviewed me so I could reveal my working book title, topic and how you can help me finish this amazing resource!
