In this episode, Matt is joined by Mark Burch, Lead Pastor of Northview Community Church in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Prior to leading Northview, Mark served as Northview's Multiplication and Church Planting Director, and prior to that a National Director with C2C Network and the Mennonite Brethren denomination. Mark shares his personal journey, the story of Northview and their commitment to leadership development and church planting, as well as his thoughts on the future of the Church in Canada. Also be sure to checkout The Gospel Coalition Canada's Annual conference in Vancouver from April 22-24, 2024. The theme is “Acts Once Again,” pointing to the reality that Canadians need to remember how the earliest Christians “turned the world upside down” by preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a culture hostile to the truth of Jesus.Be sure to email events@ca.thegospelcoalition.org to inquire about group rates and visit https://ca.thegospelcoalition.org/tgcc-2024-in-vancouver/ to learn more.

Two things that are not always related. Welcome to Run With Horses. My name is Norman and my goal is to help you Thrive as a disciple of Jesus. The road often seems long but we are in this together. The Church. God's amazing, wonderful, frustrating, beautiful, distracted Family. Hard to live with at times, impossible to live without at others. Reference - https://outreachmagazine.com/resources/small-church-america/74242-god-can-use-a-church-of-any-size.html Reference - https://research.lifeway.com/2021/10/20/small-churches-continue-growing-but-in-number-not-size If the goal is getting every member involved int eh mission of Jesus it would seem that smaller churches have an advantage. But small churches have a challenge as well. Large churches have a place. My thought is that disciple making is difficult in any size church. It takes intentional effort not to be distracted by the challenges of being small, or big. Disciple making is intentionally investing in the life of another person. The size of your church doesn't matter. Your focus and your clarity of purpose do. Thanks for joining me today. If you have thoughts or questions about your spiritual life, write me at norman@runwithhorses.net I would love to hear from you.
A special guest joins us on "Let The Bible Speak", Pastor James Mitchell from St. Timothy, to share what he has learned about church leadership over the years.
This is, hands down, the "noisiest" interview I have ever conducted. It took me 7 hours to edit out the majority of the nervous taps, fidgeting, struggling for words, etc. that, to me, showcase the long-term impacts of sustained hypervigilance in any career or life. While I devoted great effort to editing out the majority of this noise, I also devoted great care to not completely erase it, for this "noise" demonstrates the tremendously destructive impact upon a man who, for whatever reason, maintains a state of sustained hypervigilance for far too many years without giving his mind, body, and spirit a sustained rest. This is the first part of a two-part interview. This first interview takes place as this pastor is roughly a month into a 90-day sabbatical, trying to assess the damage to his mind, body, and spirit, after almost 20 years of caring for others far more than caring for himself.Part two of this time-lapse will be next, an interview 9 months after the first, intended to afford the listener some reflection on how a lengthy sabbatical helped this pastor to start identifying the road to his own healing. The contrast between the two interviews is as stark as it is insightful to anyone who lives a life of sustained hypervigilance.
The Ferment Podcast - Conversations About Worship And Transformation
In this episode of The Ferment, Adam talks with Kyle Howard about the joys and challenges of leading worship in a large church. Kyle shares about some practical and emotional considerations of leading worship for a diverse congregation, and ways that he works to create opportunities for people at different stages of faith to engage. They also talk through some details relating to administration, worship team gatherings, and coordinating midweek and Sunday teams. Since his early teenage years, it's been obvious to those around Kyle that he would be making a huge impact in the worship culture of his generation. He began leading worship in the youth ministry at Vineyard Church of Urbana at the young age of 14 and continues his leadership today as the lead Worship Pastor and Creative Director. In the last few years, he has been featured on multiple Vineyard Worship albums and is flourishing in his gift of songwriting. Kyle's deepest passion is to see people encounter the loving embrace of the Father and to walk in the fullness of who they were made to be as sons and daughters. Kyle and his beautiful wife Shelby recently had their first son. They are loving life together and share a joint passion for good ice cream. In his free time, Kyle is an avid golfer, a pretty solid basketball player and a professional at buying tennis shoes. (No joke, always look at his shoes.) Our topic for tonight's show is how does the church respond when a celebrity, who previously lived an open life of darkness, becomes born again. How do we, as the church, respond to that person and their new life? Is their intention genuine or do they look to deceive the masses as they do have mass appeal based on their previous lifestyle? Welcome to After 9 Episode 25: Help I'm Trapped In A Large Church, In this episode Zac and Chad share from the other side of the fence. Companion to Episode 23 this week's episode probes the questions of what it is like to be caught up or caught in, the trappings of a large church with all the resources you want and more leaders than you can handle. Moreover, it can also create a culture of expectation and manipulation as you might begin to believe in your own ability to acheive whatever outcomes you create. Please be encouraged when we say that the grass is not always greener, especially if your heart is green with envy. Hear Chad share his story of finding himself in a ministry six times larger than he was ready for and what it mean to discover and build a youth ministry culture as it was unfolding before him.
