Some people are born for music, others art. Lauren was born for sports. Her athletic career started at five when she swam her first race. Nearly 20 years later she retired as team captain from a D1 swimming program. With another 15 years in Corporate America, she realized her calling lied elsewhere…where it all started. As a certified professional coach, she now specializes in working with current and former D1 to Olympian athletes to master the mental part of the game and reach their full potential physically and mentally. Lauren's practice exists to show athletes they deserve an outlet to be heard, seen, and supported mentally and emotionally at the same level they are physically. Leading with high energy, grit, and unwavering commitment to what she's set her mind on, Lauren's spark is unique and infectious. She uses this distinctive combination to connect with athletes in a way that deepens their understanding and acceptance of exactly who they're meant to be to perform at their best every single time. Her motto, "make it happen" drives her unabashed belief that athletes already have everything they need to succeed at whatever they want, it's simply a matter of removing the mental clutter that blocks them from seeing their full potential. To connect with Lauren, visit: https://www.linkedin.com/in/laurenammon

Mindset is everything and I'm a nerd for the mental game so I enjoyed this episode with Lauren Ammon of Performance Reimagined. With her business as a Mental Performance Coach, I enjoyed talking about the early specialization, athletes dealing with relationships with their parents, players gaining self awareness and identity with their sport, and why mental resilience is better than mental toughness. On this episode of "It's Not A Straight Line," we are joined by Lauren Ammon, a former athlete turned mental performance coach. Lauren's journey in sports began at the young age of five when she was "thrown" into the pool with her older sisters and swam her first race. She went on to achieve remarkable successes, including winning a U.S. High School Championship, a top three finish in the Mid-American Conference, and swimming at the Division 1 NCAA Level while also serving as the Captain of the Swim Team at Eastern Michigan from 2003-2004.As Lauren touched the wall for the final time in her last race in the NCAA, she realized that her 17-year athletic career had come to an abrupt end. She went on to complete a Master's degree at the University of Cincinnati and worked for over a decade in Human Resources, but she felt that something was missing. In 2019, Lauren received her professional coaching certification and founded her own practice called Performance Reimagined. In this episode, Lauren shares with us how her coaching focus changed after a pivotal moment during the 2020 Olympics (which took place in 2021). She recalls watching as Simone Biles pulled out of competition, noticing the expression on Katie Ledecky's face during her gold medal win, and listening to Michael Phelps, the world's greatest swimmer of all time, speak about mental health and the need for athletes to have someone to listen to them. It was at that moment that Lauren knew she was being called to help athletes master the mental part of the game and perform at the highest level in all aspects of life's competition.Join us as Lauren Ammon shares her inspiring story and insights on mental performance coaching for athletes of all ages and levels.Learn more about Lauren Ammon and her coaching practice, Performance Reimagined, at https://www.performancereimagined.com/Follow Lauren on Instagram: @mrslaurenammon and @performance_reimagined_Lauren's LinkedIn profile

From kindergarten in Northern Kentucky to college at Eastern Michigan University, Lauren Ammon swam her way to state, national, and collegiate conference championships before she finally hung up her suit and goggles and said goodbye to competitive swimming. It was a fun ride and she loved every minute of it, but often struggled to maximize her mindset and emotional state to support her continued performance. She started Performance Reimagined because of Michael Phelps' message during the 2020 Olympics: "Competition is overwhelming. We just want someone to talk to who listens and doesn't want to fix us." That was the eureka moment. Working with athletes is where she belongs. She created Performance Reimagined to support student-athletes to train their minds like they train their bodies; to remove the mental blocks that keep them from their full potential and highest performance on and off the field.Social links:https://www.instagram.com/performance_reimagined_/https://www.linkedin.com/in/laurenammon/https://www.performancereimagined.com/In her own words:17 years in the pool feeling most like myself. 17 years out of the pool and I had no idea who I was. A successful career in HR wasn't it. 2 years as a leadership development and transitions coach wasn't it. Then just days before the 2020 Olympics started I happened to say to myself, "I wonder what it would be like to work with athletes?" It was the night Simone Biles removed herself from the competition and Katie Ledecky won gold in the 1500m freestyle but did everything in her power to hide her disappointment. In the midst of this swirl, they interviewed Michael Phelps, "Competing at an elite level is overwhelming. We just want someone we can trust. Someone who will listen and let us be ourselves. Someone who will let us be vulnerable. Someone who doesn't want to fix us." There it was. The eureka moment. As I sat there, in tears, listening to the most prolific Olympian tell the world, "we have no one who supports us mentally," I knew. I FINALLY knew what was "right" for me. Supporting current student-athletes to train their minds like they train their bodies; to remove the mental blocks that keep them from their full potential (on and off the field). We partner to understand what's standing in the way of optimal performance. Why aren't you performing at the level you want or know you can? How is your mindset hindering your performance? Even Michael Phelps and Caeleb Dressel have both admitted to “mental demons”. If it's happening at the Olympic level, it's happening everywhere. You, as a high-performing student-athlete, deserve the chance to reach your dreams without your mind holding you back.If you want to optimize your game from a new angle, we can support you.1. Barton and Lauren sit down to discuss how an athlete's mindset is pivotal to long term success and wellbeing for the athlete and person striving to compete. In this hour long interview, Barton and Lauren discuss how she realized there was such a need for a "Re-Imagined" Coaching concept to help these athletes stay healthy mentally, emotionally and physically while preparing for competition. Follow Lauren on Instagram: https://instagram.com/mrslaurenammonCheck out her website: https://performancereimagined.comAbout Lauren: I started swimming when I was five because my mom says I had WAY too much energy and was asking for A LOT of snacks during my sisters' swim meets. Since I was already there she signed me up for the team and well, as ‘they' say, the rest is history. I LOVED everything about swimming. From the laughter with my teammates to the hard sets to dancing at swim meets like an absolute fool listening to CDs on a discman (yes, I'm THAT old). It was my world, and I never wanted to leave. For 17 years I had the privilege of calling myself an elite athlete, even making it to a D1 program on a full ride. While I was wildly successful by all counts - KY high school state champ, top 3 finisher in the Mid American Conference - there was a snag. I was a perfectionist whose expectations were so high, nothing less than PR was acceptable anytime I dove in the water. I didn't know how else to be. I was a driven go-getter who literally felt a constant pressure to perform at my peak every. single. time no matter if I was in the depths of hell with training or fully tapered. It was perfection or bust. It was PR or nothing. There was no middle ground. I didn't know how to get out of my own head! And while all of my coaches told me I was there (yes, thank you Captains Obvious) I was never told HOW to get out of it. Just to ‘figure it out'. I found my way out sometimes, but I always chalked it up to being a fluke. Not something I could consciously do if I worked at it. So alas, when I was finally forced to retire in 2004, I left thinking, '“ugghhhhhh I could have been so much more had I just figured out how to get out of my own head.” Fast forward to September 2021, the postponed 2020 Olympic Games. As I watched Simone Biles remove herself from competition and Katie Ledecky hide emotion after winning Gold but it not reflecting her best performance, I started to think about the mental well-being of athletes. Minutes later Michael Phelps said what I didn't know I had been thinking for over 30 years. “Competing [at this level] is really overwhelming. We just want someone to talk to. We just want someone who listens and allows us to be vulnerable and doesn't want to fix us.” BOOM! There it was. It finally all made sense. I could take the experiences from swimming and combine them with education and training I received after it to give athletes what I never got - the HOW behind getting out of your own head. And thus Performance Reimagined was born - to support elite student-athletes like you to train your minds like you train your bodies. In this episode of the Female Athlete Nutrition podcast, I talk with Lauren Ammon, founder and Head Coach of Performance Reimagined, helping student athletes train their mind and tackle their inner opponent. We hear how Lauren uses her personal experiences as a competitive NCAA Division I swimmer, mentally struggling with “being in her own head” during puberty, to better relate with and provide resources for the unique challenges facing student athletes. We normalize the feelings of fear and doubt all athletes feel, and empower listeners with tools to combat them. Lauren and I dive deep into the athlete mindset, what Lauren calls the “inner opponent”, and discuss strategies for getting out of your own head, quieting negative self-talk, anxiety and doubt, and making your inner voice work for you. We talk about transitioning to life after athletics, and how the same mental techniques can be applied to disordered eating recovery and imposter syndrome outside of sports. Lauren shares about Performance Reimagined and her new program: The Inner Opponent Challenge, teaching student athletes techniques to conquer their inner opponent with daily mindset training. Guiding athletes to supersede the limitations of the mind is what YogiTriathlete was founded on. Living a more vibrant life through a clear mind is synonymous with better performance, and as Beej and I continue to clean up our inner mud, we have realized a better world from the inside out. I'm so excited about our conversation today because our guest aligns with our core belief: to reach athletic potential, we must train our minds with the same, if not more, tenacity as we train our bodies. Lauren Ammon started swimming at age five and nearly two decades later retired after graduating college and swimming for a D1 school. She has an impressive single sport legacy, but what truly piques our interest is that she walked away feeling she never reached her potential, like she had more to give. This dissatisfaction led to a personal quest to figure out how to overcome the obstacle of her mind and the eventual creation of Performance Reimagined, where she supports elite student-athletes to train their minds and overcome the mental blocks that keep them from their potential. If you enjoy the ongoing theme of mind training on this podcast, settle in because this is another deep conversation. In this episode, we discuss: - impact of the Olympics in 2020 - perspective on why she was better at practice swimming - breaking the cycle of perfection - taking your power back to make choices - being right where you are supposed to be - thoughts lead to emotions, lead to choices - when did you become ‘aware' - leaving corporate America - working through tough swim sets, facing doubt and fear - stress or pause - attachment to the result or outcome - when reaching your goal is not enough - being conditioned for negativity - breathing practices for athletes - building self-worth but through experience - secret weapons for athletes Namaste- Jess

Today on the Championship Mindset Podcast we speak with Mental Performance Coach Lauren Ammon. Lauren is the owner of Performance Reimagined where her vision it to change the way student athletes view their performance to reach their full potential. A former competitive swimmer who swam at the D1 level, Lauren works with student athletes, coaches, and parents to change the narrative on what it means to win on and off the field. We hope you enjoy our conversation with Lauren Ammon.
Competitive athletes often tie their identity to their ability to perform and to win. They have the drive and ability, but they may not realize they are limiting themselves. My guest this week is Lauren Ammon. She was a competitive swimmer for 20 years. She swam in her first race when she was five years old. She had success as a swimmer. And she had success in the corporate world as well. But something was missing. She decided to leave her corporate job and get training as a coach. She had success in running her coaching business, working to develop leaders in business. But something still was missing. Then she heard an interview from Michael Phelps talking about the mental challenges young athletes face. She switched her business model and now she works with athletes helping them train their minds for performance in sports. She also gives them skills to take those same mindset tools into all of life.
At the age of 5, Lauren was literally thrown into a pool so she would have something to do at her sisters' swim meets. 17 years later, with a high school state championship and a top 3 finish in the Mid-American Conference, she said goodbye to a successful swimming career. This foundation as a student athlete set the tone for high achievement in the professional world. After 15 years in HR, Lauren received her professional coaching certification from the Institute of Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC) to feed her passion for supporting others in reaching their full potential. She started her business focused on leadership development and career advancement, but while watching the 2020 Olympic games it all changed. As she watched Simon Biles remove herself from competition and Katie Ledecky do everything in her power to hide her disappointment following a lackluster race, she knew who she was called to serve. Athletes. It was validated when Michael Phelps told the world, "Competition is overwhelming. We just want someone to listen to us. Someone to support us mentally through the pressure-filled moments." Lauren specializes in working with high school athletes to master the mental part of the game. Her company, Performance Reimagined, exists to show athletes there is an outlet to be heard, seen, and supported mentally and emotionally at the same level they are physically. Someone to support us mentally through the pressure-filled moments and who doesn't want to fix us." Lauren specializes in working with student athletes to master the mental part of the game. Her company, Performance Reimagined, exists to show athletes there is an outlet to be heard, seen, and supported, mentally and emotionally, at the same level they are physically. Lauren Ammon joins Michael Rasile on For the Love of Sports to discuss her division 1 swimming career, the hard truths around the end of it, and what she is doing now to help other athletes through these types of transitions. After her swamming career ended at Eastern Michigan, Lauren had a hard time coping with 17 years of her life ending abruptly. It took her many years before she could even come to terms with it. She then found out that she's not the only one and this is more common than not in elite athletes. Lauren has now started a coaching program specifically for athletes to help them connect with their sports but also understands that their sport is giving them skills and attributes that will be very useful after their careers come to an end. Working with high school aged kids, Performance Reimagined is helping athletes cope with all of the difficulties that come with their sports while giving them the support they need. https://www.linkedin.com/in/laurenammon/ https://www.instagram.com/mrslaurenammon/ https://www.laurenammon.com/

On today's episode, I have a real-life mermaid. If it didn't involve water, then Lauren Ammon wanted nothing to do with it during her two-decades-long swimming career. Lauren shares how fear inspired a life-long passion, her different way of meditating, and the importance of falling in love with the process of achieving. We're talking about her transition from high-level student-athlete to human resources professional and finally to becoming the mental resilience coach for student-athletes she wishes she'd had. Her current business focus became clear while she was watching the 2020 Olympic games. She saw Simon Biles remove herself from the competition and Katie Ledecky do everything in her power to hide her disappointment following a lackluster race. It was then that Lauren felt deeply called to serve athletes. Her dedication to that calling was cemented when Michael Phelps told the world “Competition is overwhelming. We just want someone to listen to us. Someone to support us mentally through the pressure-filled moments.” Connect with Lauren E-mail Website https://www.linkedin.com/in/laurenammon/ (LinkedIn ) https://www.facebook.com/lauren.ammon.1/ (Facebook) https://www.instagram.com/mrslaurenammon/ (Instagram) Clubhouse @laurenammon Laurens Hype Up Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjxugyZCfuw (This is Me)

Lauren Ammon was an energetic 5 year old who fell in love with swimming after her mom tossed her into the pool with her 2 big sisters. She swam for 17 years, including at the college level at Eastern Michigan University. After realizing that law school was not in her cards, she started a career in HR. Just before the 2020 Olympics, she considered a career change, realizing that high level athletes often are not trained in the mental aspect of their game and performance. She then saw Michael Phelps do a commentary where he made a plea for governing bodies and organizations and professionals to support the mental health of their athletes, and Lauren saw this as her new calling. She now runs her own coaching business, "Performance Reimagined" where she helps athletes and coaches train their minds like they train their bodies. In this episode, we discuss the pressures that are put on athletes to perform , 'cracks in their foundations' of mental performance and health, and the power of athletics to bring people and organizations together and potentially serve as a platform for discussions around our own mental health and potential shortcomings. Lauren makes some great points about creating our own definitions of what winning means for us, how our Gold, Silver and Bronze performances look like both for our athletes and for us as coaches. My favorite and most tangible takeaway was her thoughts on what effective coaches do to separate wins and losses from the emotional and mental care from their athletes, and the best question coaches can ask their athletes (spoiler alert--- it's "what is the 1 thing you want me to know in order to coach you more effectively?" ...followed up by "what does that mean to you or look like to you"") * this is GOLD, folks! * Lauren was a goldmine of knowledge and insight. I'm sure you'll find her resources and thoughts to be tremendously valuable. Keep getting better every day! Lauren's journey started at five years old when her mom threw her into the pool where her elder sisters were swimming. She slowly began to learn and fall in love with swimming becoming an elite athlete in this highly competitive sport. Being a student of Political Science, the next step she wanted to take was law school, which she failed on her first attempt. But she was not one who easily gives up. So, she gave more heart and effort to prepare for the second time. Still, she didn't make it. Little did she know that such resilience would later hugely impact her life not only when she entered the corporate world as an HR, but more so as she shifted to the coaching business for athletes.Regardless of her failed past ambitions, she finally saw the stars aligning for her. Weeks before the Covid outbreak, and months before the 2020 Summer Olympics, she started her coaching business. Being a former athlete herself, she was specifically passionate about working with athletes. She became so obsessed with the Summer Olympics. When Katie Ledecky failed at keeping her world record, she was devastated, trying to hide her emotions, she was deflecting every interview. At this, Michael Phelps said, "Competing at this level of the competition is very overwhelming. We just want someone who listens, someone we can talk to, and someone who doesn't wanna change us." That was a defining moment she keeps looking back to now that she has embarked on the coaching venture.Mental Resilience is her focus in coaching. Although she has chosen to work with elite athletes, this is applicable to anyone from all walks of life. Whether you are an athlete, a parent, or a mentor of an athlete, this episode is for you. Learn how important "taking a moment" or "taking a pause" in every powerful performance and understand what exactly does it mean and how it is done. Then you can help any athlete you know on how to deal with the stressors and the pressures they experience in this highly esteemed yet extremely scrutinized industry.----------Lauren is a mental resilient coach who support athletes to train their minds like they train their bodies. Highlights: [5:25] Opportunity in every experience [16:34] Burying limiting beliefs [37:24] Triggers and the game of life Meet Lauren Ammon: Lauren Ammon Lauren is a 15 year HR leader, who felt boxed in by corporate ways of being. The consummate "well why don't we just try..." type dreamer who was often met with "well we just don't do it that way" response. All the while feeling there was a bigger calling; a different way to bring her strengths and "what if" mentality to light. About a decade into her tenure, she was drawn to the idea of professional coaching, but quickly talked myself out of it with the belief of "not being good enough". Then one day, when she couldn't bear to be boxed in any longer, as the old adage goes, her fear of not doing it paled in comparison to the fear of trying. 9 months later, she emerged as a certified professional coach. And in the 18 months since then she has built a successful coaching practice designed to Transform you from unsettled, stuck or weighed down... to radiant, vibrant, and full of gratitude for a life YOU have designed and genuinely love! What I love about Lauren is she approaches coaching like a personal trainer. The premise of weight training is to lift weights heavy enough to cause micro-tears in your muscle fibers. With rest - proper nutrition & sleep - your muscles go to work repairing themselves to become stronger than before. Lauren’s coaching is exactly the same way. Her work is designed to give you the opportunity to create mirco-tears in your mental and emotional fibers. Breaking down the patterns that don't really work for you. Lauren is on a mission to help as many people as possible break free from limiting beliefs and help us realize that we can all actually create the life that we truly want and deserve. HEADS UP! - BOUNDARIES COURSE COMING I am in the process of creating a course on setting better boundaries. At the moment I want your feedback. Here are the problems that I see block empaths from creating boundaries. Do these resonate with you? Give me your feedback by emailing me info {at} theshiftinside.com or join the SPP Facebook group (link below) #1 I really wish I could stand up for myself, but I don't know how #2 It would be difficult to set boundaries with X, because s/he has a hard life and they really need me. How could I do that to them? #3 Setting boundaries equals creating massive conflict, which scares me #4 I am resentful that people do not give me the time and attention I give them - why should I have to set a boundary? #5 I feel too overwhelmed to do this work, and end up stuck giving too much energy away. It's catch 22. #6 I am so hurt by how narcissists and energy vampires treat me, it's kind of paralysing. Catch 22 - nothing changes. #7 I can't deal with the negative comeback I would get if I did set boundaries. ................................... Personal Empowerment Coach and Founder of Unlimited Leader Lauren Ammon joins this episode to talk about: Learning the power of routine as a College swimmer and Marathon runner and staying in that mode of training. Asking the question: What am I willing to spend my time on? Being a big proponent of three. The moment of the trigger. Thinking she would be an Attorney and instead going into Human Resources. Entering the job market in a recession and impacting lives by having to make job cuts in HR. Feeling heaviness for months due to having to let people go from jobs and taking its toll on her. This week's episode digs deeper into the ways that watching movies changes the way we see life and ourselves, with Lauren Ammon. How do you view movies? How does this time in the cinematic experience affect how we see what we watch? Movies and television shows may have a specific message but we can all absorb it in different ways. Lauren and Oleg talk about how age and experience change the connection to certain films and how it develops the metaphors and analogies that lie beneath the surface. The film/ TV watching time can be so much more as we get older or at a certain time in your life. Listen to the conversation to see how something that is a part of everyday life can change and develop into something much more meaningful than ever imagined. *** If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving us a short review? What does it mean for you to "perform well" or "win" today? Have you ever stopped to consider that? One more question, as a high-achieving person or a top-performing person, have you ever stopped to consider times when it might be ok for you to show up intentionally looking to achieve at a B+ level? These questions sound like heresy when we put them in the context of our traditional, high-pressure professional world. However, as we've learned from the pandemic and from some very high-profile athletes more recently, no one, even high achievers, is infallible. If you are a human being with a body and a mind, you have limits. You have needs. And, you simply can not perform at 150% all the time. And today, we're speaking with an expert who will help us sort through all of that.Today's guest is Lauren Ammon. She is a certified coach who works with athletes of all levels. She helps people acknowledge and recognize their own humanity. She helps people create as much psychological and emotional support for themselves as they do for their physical wellbeing. This episode is for you if you're the type of person who holds yourself to standards that are nearly unachievable.
