Most golfers think performance is a two-part equation: talent + hard work. Craig Domann says that's exactly why so many players stay stuck—because when results don't match effort, they start hunting for shortcuts: a new driver, a new swing coach, a new "hack" to finally feel confident. But Craig's worked with 300+ NFL athletes and coaches over 30 years, and he's seen the real separator up close: Mindset is the multiplier. Not the motivational-poster version of mindset—Craig means your story, your standards, your ability to play an inside game (you vs. you), and your capacity to detach from outcomes when the moment gets loud. This conversation is a blueprint for anyone chasing the next level—on the course, in business, and in life—especially if you've ever felt behind before you even tee it up. In this episode, you'll learn: Why mindset is the missing variable that lets you outperform your "expected" ceiling How your inner story shows up in "Olympic moments" (first tee, final holes, big meetings) The difference between playing an inside game vs. outside game (and why 90% get trapped) Why "going all-in" requires vulnerability—and how fear of judgment keeps you small The hidden enemy of elite performance: comfort, convenience, and entitlement How to use detachment to access flow when stakes, money, or validation creep in Craig's P5 framework: Preparation, Practice, Pit Crew, Preview, Process Get your pencils ready and start listening. Instagram: @thepaulsalter Key Takeaways: Mindset is the missing variable: talent + hard work is incomplete—without mindset you chase "hacks" (new driver, new coach) instead of expanding your ceiling. Your "Olympic moment" story is the real story: what you tell yourself when you're outdriven, on the first tee, or protecting a lead is what determines execution. Self-belief is built on self-love: most people carry years of "trash" and scar tissue into every round unless they learn to release it and rewrite the narrative. Elite performers play an inside game: less comparison, less social-media validation, more "me vs. me" autonomy and self-trust under pressure. Going all-in is the true price of elite: it's vulnerable (like showing your cards in poker), and most people avoid that exposure more than they want to win. Detachment unlocks flow: counting money, accolades, sponsors, or "what this means" creates interference; "nothing to lose" is why comebacks happen. Comfort competes with success: entitlement and convenience justify skipped reps; rest matters, but it must be scheduled intentionally and paired with proper pace. Key Quotes: "When you add your God given ability, plus the training and the hard work you put in, and then your mindset, you can actually outperform what people think you should be able to do." "The story that shows up in those Olympic moments… is the story we tell ourselves." "It's belief in love. It's self-belief and self-love." "They have the uncanny ability to play an inside game instead of an outside game." "To truly be elite, you've got to have the courage and the guts to go all in with no safety net." "The best place to reside is to be in the uncomfortable zone." "The story you tell yourself needs to be on that billboard… because that's your swing thought." Today, we're chatting with our guest, Mr. Aaron Trahan. Aaron's career began with a rapid ascent into leadership. Early in his professional life, he found himself navigating the challenges of leadership, often described as streaking through the proverbial fire holes. By the age of 30, Aaron had secured a senior executive leadership role, helping lead a billion-dollar publicly traded company, a remarkable achievement that came with its own set of challenges. With early success came many mistakes and failures, which taught Aaron the invaluable lesson that continuous self-improvement is crucial for sustained success. As Aaron reflects, success has a way of breeding complacency. He had to accept the fact that what got him here won't get him there. It required leaving his ego at the door and stopping avoiding the development areas and the weaknesses that needed attention and refocusing on becoming a better leader. About the Guest: Dr. John A. King is a poet, author of 27 books, speaker, former executive, and trauma-focused performance strategist who helps high-achieving leaders confront the internal battles they've spent a lifetime avoiding. Known for his blunt honesty, deep compassion, and the Finnish concept of sisu—“white-knuckled courage in the face of overwhelming odds”—John teaches others how to build “relentless resilience” from the inside out. His upcoming fiction thriller Sins of the Father continues his mission of transforming pain into purposeful creative work.Episode Summary: In this raw, deeply human conversation, Steve Mellor sits down with Dr. John A. King to explore the real meaning of growth: facing yourself. Not the polished, curated, high-performance version of yourself — but the unfiltered, uncomfortable truth you've avoided for years.John shares the moment his past crashed into his present (“Johnageddon”), how he rebuilt his identity from the inside out, and why most people never stop long enough to actually ask: Who am I? And what do I truly want? From trauma, resilience, morning routines, authenticity, performance myths, and redefining success, this episode is part gut punch, part wake-up call — especially for leaders who want to grow without losing themselves.Takeaways:The real meaning of relentless resilience and sisuWhy men struggle to confront their internal worldThe myth of the “performance mindset” industryAuthenticity vs. living from the outside inHow trauma masquerades as drive and ambitionThe hidden cost of success without self-awarenessBuilding rules & habits that stabilize your lifeWhy rejection doesn't sting when you're at peace with yourselfLetting your past refine you — not define youThe daily work of becoming someone you actually enjoy being withLinks & Resources MentionedDr. John A. You'll hear practical insights on stewarding your energy, managing the pressure to perform, and renewing your mind for sustainable growth. If you're ready to lead from overflow instead of depletion, this episode will help you make that shift; from running on empty to leading with intention, clarity, and rest.

Master the art of thinking on your feet and turning unpredictability into powerful communication.Being quick on your feet isn't just a performance skill — it's a communication necessity. And for Peter Sagal, longtime host of NPR's Wait Wait… Don't Tell Me, it's a craft he's honed over more than two decades in front of a live audience. In this expanded conversation from our Spontaneous Speaking series, Sagal shares what it really takes to communicate with presence, flexibility, and confidence when the script goes out the window.“My job was no longer to be funny — my job was to make funny possible,” Sagal explains, reflecting on the shift from performer to facilitator. He opens up about how structure and ritual prepare him to embrace chaos, why listening matters more than cleverness, and how he defines success not by what he says, but by what others are able to say because of him. “Preparation is key,” he notes, “but being willing to let go of that preparation and follow what's happening in the moment is really important.”In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Sagal and host Matt Abrahams discuss how to navigate speaking on the spot—whether you're managing meetings, leading teams, or handling high-stakes conversations—and offer a powerful reminder: the best spontaneous communicators don't control the moment—they connect through it.Episode Reference Links:Peter D Sagal Ep.197 Prep or Perish: Mastering In-the-Moment Communication (1 of 3)Ep.198 Pause and Effect: Mastering In-the-Moment Communication (2 of 3)Ep.199 Blunder Pressure: Mastering In-the-Moment Communication (3 of 3)Ep.203 No Script, No Problem: Final Secrets to Speaking Under Pressure (Bonus) Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (03:02) - Making Funny Possible (04:11) - Ditching the Script (07:26) - Pre-Show Rituals (09:41) - How to Introduce People Well (12:44) - Being Funny in the Moment (14:38) - Staying Present On Stage (16:58) - Gracious Communication (21:23) - The Final Three Questions (24:59) - Conclusion ********This episode is sponsored by Grammarly. Send us a textIn Part 2 of our three-part series The Real Thing, we talk about the "almosts"—those things we turn to for comfort that feel close to peace but never quite satisfy. Whether it's late-night snacks, comparison, or performance, we've both reached for substitutes that ultimately leave us thirsty. Drawing from Jeremiah 2:13 and Isaiah 44, we unpack the imagery of broken cisterns and burned-out ashes, asking: Why do we keep trying to feed on what no longer gives life? This conversation isn't just about recognizing what's not working—it's about learning to receive what is. We share stories from our own lives and invite you into a reflective process using breath prayers and simple journaling prompts. What are the places in your life that feel like “almosts”? What would it look like to trade those in for the living water Jesus offers? Join us on this honest journey towards something real—because you weren't made to settle for almost.Support the showLearn more about our Revelation Within Community: https://www.revelationwithin.org
Today's episode is a little different — it's just Todd and Jay, mic'd up and mood-swinging their way through one of those actor chats that starts with “I'm not feeling it” and ends with “okay, I've got a little fire back.” In this candid bonus conversation, Todd and Jay explore the ebb and flow of motivation in an actor's life — why it disappears, how to rediscover it, and the tools they've each developed to stay (or get back) on track. From inner drive to outer community, yoga hacks to time-blocking, and even the occasional black hole of self-doubt, this is a brutally honest and refreshingly funny reflection on the ups and downs of creative energy. Whether you're smashing auditions or stuck in the “meh,” this episode is for every actor who's ever felt a little lost in the grind. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00 – Opening 01:40 – “I'm just not feeling it today” 03:00 – Losing motivation and why it happens 05:15 – Why actors need inner motivation 07:40 – Jay's “bliss-based” discipline hack 10:30 – Todd on how the body seeks pleasure 13:20 – No money, no validation — just love of the work 15:45 – The unpredictable nature of actor life 17:30 – Yoga, chakras, and the motivation pyramid 20:10 – Balancing survival with creative readiness 22:30 – The curse of missed opportunities 24:00 – Todd's big casting miss while abroad 26:00 – Community as a motivator 28:00 – Why Todd got active in the union 29:40 – Surround yourself with other actors 31:00 – Jay's take: finding inner motivation 33:10 – Community vs. discipline — which drives you? 35:30 – Creating purpose from within 38:00 – Tangible tips for everyday motivation 40:00 – Rebuilding your tribe post-pandemic 42:00 – Inner food vs. outer support 44:30 – Why actors need both solo and ensemble energy 46:00 – Wrap-up and final thoughts

Welcome to the Purple Patch Podcast! In this episode, IRONMAN Master Coach Matt Dixon Interviews Scot Davis, a Purple Patch Athlete and Chief Operating Officer at Crow Holdings, who completed the World Marathon Challenge, running seven marathons in seven days across seven continents. His journey began after caring for his mother with pancreatic cancer. Initially training with a previous coach, he transitioned to Purple Patch Fitness Coach Will Turner, who reduced his running volume and introduced multi-sport training. Despite challenges like illness and extreme conditions, Scot completed the challenge, setting a world record for the shortest duration. Post-challenge, he aims to run 52 marathons in a year. Scot emphasized the importance of a strong support system and mental resilience. Dixon outlines the episode's focus on Scot's preparation, mindset, and the lessons learned from completing the World Marathon Challenge.
