In this episode of The ManKind Podcast, host Boysen Hodgson sits down with Brandon Clift to unpack five profound lessons he learned from his experience on Australian Ninja Warrior—where he set the record for the fastest elimination in history.Brandon shares how his ego, overconfidence, and underestimation of the challenge ahead led to an unexpected (and humbling) failure. But more importantly, he reveals how this moment reshaped his approach to risk, preparation, and resilience in all areas of life.Key Lessons Discussed:Leave Your Ego at Home – The fine line between confidence and arrogance.Do Not Underestimate the Challenge – How overlooking the present moment led to a misstep.Respect the Course – Why preparation and humility matter in any pursuit.Surrender Expectations & Detach from Outcomes – Embracing the unknown and finding growth in unexpected results.Enjoy the Journey – Finding joy, even in failure, and learning to pivot when things don't go as planned.Through humor, reflection, and raw honesty, Brandon walks us through how these lessons continue to shape his personal and professional life. Whether you've faced setbacks in your career, relationships, or personal goals, this episode is packed with wisdom to help you fail forward and find purpose in the process.Resources & Mentions:

Fear, Doubt, Indecision....Don't let these things hold you back. When you are facing your fears (especially the fear of failure), you need to be prepared. We all fail, but what many people don't realize is that failing is a key ingredient of success. Anyone who's ever succeeded has also failed many times before they were successful! So how do you overcome your failures on your way to success? Here are 5 keys to overcoming failure. 1. Learn From Your Mistakes and Failures. Learning to ride a bike is not an easy task. You will fall off 100 times before you succeed in your attempt, but it's worth all of the hard work because once that first pedal turns smoothly with no input from yourself (or any other force), nothing can stop someone who knows how cool they are at riding! Action Step: Write down the top five things that you learned from your last mistake or failure. 2. Don't Dwell on It. Now that you have learned something from your mistake, move on. Don't dwell on your past. You can't tell where you are going if you are looking backward. Also, dwelling on your past failures will keep you in prison right where you are. Action Step: Read what you have written down in Key 1 (The 5 Things You Learned). 3. Don't Be Afraid to Try Again. The fear from your last failure shouldn't stop you. You just need to learn how again and keep at it until you succeed! So many people give up when they fail, but that's because their mindset is all focused on the bad times. Your greatness awaits within those moments where things go wrong - now is a great time for new beginnings as long as we have faith in ourselves Action Step: Take what you have learned and try it again now that you are better prepared 4. Surround Yourself with Positive People. No matter what it is that you are trying to achieve, surround yourself with successful people that have done what you want to do. One of the best ways to overcome failure is to learn how other people just like you overcame failure. This will not only encourage you but give you proof that it can be done. Action Step: Find a person or a group of people who are successful and get around them as soon as possible. 5. Realizing Failure is Part of the Learning Curve. Failure and mistakes aren't fun but they are what help us learn to be great at whatever it is we are trying to achieve. “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” Action Step: Think back to a time when you succeeded. Then think how many times you failed or made mistakes to get to that success. Now that you have the 5 Keys to Overcoming Failure, go out there and just do it! You have a seed of greatness inside of you. Don't let anyone or anything stop you from reaching your full potential in life. We are proud to welcome our first helicopter pilot, "GT" this week: Capt. Wayne Tunick USN (ret) author of the book "American Quest" The book is a fun read and traces the career of a young man who had never considered the military as he serves his country and his fellow man. GT had a successful career as a Navy Helicopter pilot who learned early on the seriousness of aviation in a crash that could have easily cost him his life and it changed the way he approached flying for the rest of his career. And, while everyone couldn't experience exactly what he did, GT tells us how he demanded exacting standards of his fellow aviators so they could be ready to meet any challenge they faced - expectedly or unexpectedly in the airplane. GT's experiences range from incredible to terrifying - and how he was fortunate enough to be able to learn from his experience and pass that on to other pilots throughout his career - including two tours as a Squadron Commander. Over the years GT came up with 18 Rules to live by. They are republished here: COMMANDING OFFICER, HSL-44 AIRCREW POLICY THIS IS A LIFE AND DEATH BUSINESS. DON'T DIE BECAUSE YOU WERE STUPID. KNOW YOUR NATOPS-IT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE. KNOW YOUR TACTICS. YOU MUST KNOW HOW TO FIGHT WHEN CALLED UPON. TRAIN HARD. THE REAL THING WILL BE EASIER. DEVELOP STANDARD PRACTICES. DO THINGS THE SAME WAY. WHEN YOU GET RUSHED-YOU WILL STILL DO THEM THE SAME. BUT DON'T GET RUSHED. NEVER HESITATE TO SPEAK UP OR IF NEEDED, TAKE CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. IF YOU HESITATE YOU WILL DIE. HAVE A BURNING DESIRE TO LEARN THE AIRCRAFT. INSTILL THAT DESIRE IN OTHERS. NEVER STOP LEARNING. PRACTICE RISK ASSESSMENT. ASK YOURSELF: “IS IT WORTH THE RISK?” DO NOT CONFUSE A HOSTILE AREA WITH A WAR. THERE ARE HOSTILE AREAS ALL OVER THE WORLD. OPERATIONAL NECESSITY RARELY, IF EVER, PRESENTS ITSELF DURING PEACETIME. USE THE BOOK. CHECKLISTS, PREFLIGHTS, BRIEFS, AND DEBRIEFS REQUIRE DEDICATED EFFORT. NEVER GET COMPLACENT. NEVER TAKE AN AIRCRAFT THAT DOESN'T “FEEL” RIGHT. NEVER GIVE IN TO PERCEIVED PRESSURE. ERR TO CONSERVATISM. BETTER TO COME BACK AND FIGHT ANOTHER DAY. USE YOUR CREW. IF YOU ARE THINKING IT. SAY IT. OTHERS ARE PROBABLY THINKING THE SAME THING. AW'S ARE ONE THIRD OF THE CREW. MONITOR THE NAV TABLE, ASK QUESTIONS, DO NOT LET THE PILOTS KILL YOU. YOU DON'T CRASH GOING UP. NIGHT DECENTS OVER WATER ARE THE MOST DANGEROUS THING WE DO. RESPECT THEM. LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES. THEN NEVER REPEAT THEM!!!! EXPERIENCE IS A TOUGH TEACHER, IT GIVES THE TEST FIRST AND THE LESSON AFTER. THE SH-60B HAS 3 FORECASTED CLASS “A” MISHAPS THIS FY. ARE YOU ONE OF THEM? THE ANSWER IS NO!!!

5 Keys to Overcome Failure We all fail, but what many people don't realize is that failing is a key ingredient of success. Naza is a Philanthropist who with her organisation the SAGE Foundation, is doing some amazing work funding projects that focus on Education, Girl Empowerment and Environmental Preservation. She is an Iranian refugee who arrived in the United Kingdom at the age of 9 and has the highest belief in the power of education. What makes Naza stand out to me is her approach to philanthropy as a ‘chipping in together model' partnering with lots of other organisations, rather than funding everything yourself. If you haven't already done so check out the site of the SAGE Foundation (sagefdn.org) where you can find some great informative videos on all the problems they tackle. Naza's take on things is to: Just Do It! The most important thing is to start and accept that you will make mistakes but if you stick with it and genuinely learn from your failures everything will turn out exactly as you envisioned it would be. Love it!! So without further ado here is to Notes to Nono 8 with Naza Alakija!
Today's episode is an extremely moving interaction I had with a young man recently that I believe everyone needs to hear. Love and compassion are always the answer .. piling on, and judgment has no place in our interactions with each other .. this is a very emotional moment, and I hope it helps someone out there! Enjoy! My failures have taught me more than my successes ever have, and a lot of my mentors have mentioned this over and over to me. Sometimes I'm frustrated and I can't figure out why I can't get a new brand or a new website to get traction, or it's hard to make it monetizable. The one thing that I've heard from many of my mentors ... remember, manifest your mentors, guys. If you take one thing from this series, just keep thinking that in your head, "Manifest my mentors." Are you manifesting your mentors? In the process of doing so, I have found that we're all chefs, we're all in the kitchen. Yeah, you know I love analogies. We throw pasta on the wall and some of it sticks, some of it doesn't. You may learn more from the stuff that fell on the floor than what sticks on the wall.
A topic I wanted to discuss is something that recently happened to me, and it hit me hard the last month. It was bothering me. A home that I do home watch for the previous three years was listed for sale for 5.5 million dollars. Now you are probably saying a couple of things. Wow, that's an expensive home, and or ok, what's the big deal? The primary reason it bothered me was that I do these people's home watch and am a real estate broker. Ive gotten them properties in the past as well. I sold them the lot the home was on! I designed and built the home, which was a huge slap in the face. I went above and beyond for these people. Making sure everything was fixed and running well for them. But yet, they listed with another agent. At first, I was bothered by it. I'm competitive, but I also couldn't comprehend why they did it. I looked for reasons. I blamed others for it. I was angry. After a bit, I started to think back to everything I've learned through my personal development journey. I needed to stop pointing the finger at others and look at myself.
