Have you ever felt anxious or overwhelmed after watching the news? You're not alone. According to a recent study, over 60% of people report feeling stressed, anxious, or depressed after watching the news. In this episode, we explore how news consumption affects our mental health and what we can do to protect ourselves. John Zada is a writer, photographer, and journalist with over 20 years of experience in media production. He has worked as a television news writer and producer for both CBC News Network and Al Jazeera English, covering a wide range of topics, from international politics to science and technology. John is also the author of two books: "In the Valleys of the Noble Beyond: In Search of the Sasquatch" and "Veils of Distortion: How the News Media Warps Our Minds". His work has been featured in numerous publications, including The Globe and Mail, Explore Magazine, and Canadian Geographic John shares stories from his time as a television news writer and producer, where he witnessed the toll that constant exposure to negative news stories can take on people's mental health. But it's not just the content of the news that's the problem. The 24/7 news cycle and social media have made it easier than ever to consume news constantly, leading to what experts call "doomscrolling" - the habit of endlessly scrolling through negative news stories, even when it's not productive or helpful. So, what can we do to protect ourselves from the negative effects of news consumption? John shares practical tips for managing our news intake, including setting boundaries, seeking out positive news stories, and focusing on solutions instead of problems. If you're tired of feeling overwhelmed by the news and want to take control of your mental health, then this episode is for you. In this episode, we engage in a deep conversation with John Badstubner, a prominent leader in the nonprofit sector who channels his technical acumen to empower organizations in achieving their objectives and creating a lasting impact in their communities. Hailing from Shrewsbury, MA, John Badstubner commenced his career in mental health, where he designed programs and therapeutic activities to assist individuals grappling with various life challenges and disorders. His work encompassed a diverse array of therapeutic interventions, such as job coaching, life skills training, activity planning, community exploration and integration, behavior management, assessment, treatment planning services, crisis management, and case management. Seeking to broaden his impact in the technology arena, John transitioned into the sector as a nonprofit advisor at Huslte, where he collaborated with a select group of nonprofits to foster authentic relationships at scale. He subsequently joined Salesforce & ServiceNow, helping nonprofits enhance communication and transparency among staff, volunteers, and donors. Driven by an East Coast hard work and client-first mentality, John consistently brings his best self to every interaction with clients. Throughout his career, he has surmounted various obstacles, including a bold career switch to the Bay Area, health challenges, and even a music career. In this enlightening conversation, John shares:
The alarming rise of diabetes has become a major public health concern, with over 422 million people worldwide affected by this chronic condition. It is now the seventh leading cause of death globally and is projected to be the fastest-growing health crisis of the 21st century. The significant impact of diabetes on our society not only threatens the health and well-being of millions, but it also places an immense burden on healthcare systems and economies. Understanding the true nature of diabetes and how to effectively manage it is more important than ever. Many are unaware that the root cause of this life-altering condition often lies in our everyday habits and choices. By making simple lifestyle adjustments, such as incorporating healthier dietary practices and regular exercise, individuals can regain control of their health and transform their lives. This critical knowledge has the potential to save lives, reduce the strain on healthcare systems, and empower individuals to take charge of their well-being, ultimately creating a healthier and more vibrant society. After 20 years of studying the research on diabetes, Dr. Poothullil explains in this book that insulin resistance does not make biological sense. Instead, he shows how a normal body metabolism can go haywire when you over consume grains, leading to high blood sugar and diabetes. If you avoid eating grains as much as possible, you can lower your blood sugar and halt the progression of diabetes. In this way, diabetes is lifestyle and dietary condition, not a hormonal disease, that you can reverse in as few as 8 weeks. Take control of your diabetes and read this life-changing book. In this wide-ranging conversation, we cover what diabetes is, the key role diet & blood sugar plays in our overall health, and how we can leverage what Dr. John calls the pillars of healthy diet to promote optimal health. Dr. John explains how diet, exercise, sleep, stress management, sunlight exposure, and spiritual practice are more powerful than any medication or supplement out there. Letting go of relationships, energy, or thoughts can be challenging because especially if it's somebody that you care about. In this episode, Carisa and I are going to talk about how we can best position ourselves in 2023 by letting go of whats no longer needed so that we can have the life and relationships we want. You're in for a surprise this interview where Carisa shares a transition she is in the middle of in her life & the work she is doing with her clients. Happy Holidays Everyone! We are now approaching the end of 2022 & our FINAL PODCAST episode of the year. Brian Sachetta is a best-selling author of the Get Out of Your Head® book series, which helps readers overcome negative thinking, control their emotional state, and eliminate anxiety to live a fulfilling life. Brian has the desire to help others with anxiety and depression due to his own personal battle with them. NEGATIVE THOUGHT PATTERNS prevented him from finding the right partner, performing at work, and reaching his goals. These battles led him to spend years learning about the ins and outs of MENTAL HEALTH. He learned how ANXIETY and FEAR PATTERNS work, then developed solutions to remove them as they arise by controlling his EMOTIONAL STATE. We must RE-ENGINEER our THOUGHT PATTERNS, EMOTIONAL STATE, & MINDSET by understanding where these thoughts come from and then having a tool kit ready to address them. I'm very excited to release this episode now because we are planning our New Years' Resolutions. Performance is a MINDSET. Brian shared STRATEGIES and TOOLS we can use for the upcoming year to deal with any stress-related or anxious thought patterns that prevent us from REACHING OUR DESTINATION. Happy New Year!
