Attention Costco shoppers, we found a great deal on a baseball card, but you need to be a member to save! We review the year in Immaculate Grid, check out celebrity weddings (trust us it has a baseball angle), preview a baseball music festival, talk expensive players and announcers strange diets. If that's not enough, this week we learn about brothers Leron and Leon Lee. They both played in the US but found their calling in the NPB. Hitting for power and average, they dominated the league for the decade they played. Embracing the culture, they were fan favorites but the league and ownership couldn't get past the fact that they were not Japanese. Despite adversity, they persevered and ended up in the record books. Finally, in this week's Wax Pack Heroes we come across something that has never happened before. Will it be enough for a victory to the lucky player though? And don't forget to fill out the 2SN HOF ballot. Your vote could be the difference between Brandon Phillips getting into the HOF or not! The Very Thought of You и инструментальная версия песни Принца Thieves in the Temple. ©️ 2023 Jazz Avenue 1 Leon Lee Dorsey - acoustic bass Russell Malone – electric guitar Mike Clark – drums Leon Lee Dorsey родился 12 марта 1958 года, Поздрaвляем! #jazz #swing --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/konstantins/message

©️ Jazz Avenue 1 Records 2022 Mike Clark - drums Leon Lee Dorsey - bass Mike LeDonne - piano #bebop --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/konstantins/message

Just over 20 years ago, the Chinese Communist Party began persecuting those in China who followed the spiritual practice of Falun Gong. Today, Uyghur Muslims face imprisonment and torture at the hands of the Chinese government. Tomorrow, more innocent lives will fall victim to suffering at the hands of the Chinese Communist Party if Beijing's totalitarian leaders do not face consequences for those human rights abuses. In the new film “Unsilenced,” director Leon Lee tells the true story of those who were persecuted and killed by China's government because they practiced Falun Gong. The film highlights the stories of those who “risk their lives and use their wisdom to find ways to counter the propaganda and fight for their freedom” in China, Lee says. But the threats of the Chinese Communist Party extend far beyond its borders, the film director says. It's past time for America to recognize “that the [Chinese Communist Party] is the biggest threat the West faces,” says Leon Lee, the director of “Unsilenced.”Lee joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss China's human rights abuses and the danger China poses to the Western world if China's crimes go unpunished. Her “professional” work was in the corporate creative productive industry so she understood the art side of NFTs right away. Betty's husband, Psych, was the one who jumped right into NFTs and after seeing all of the projects the Psych was working on, Betty was hooked. “I was like, I mean, we've worked in creative production together on a corporate level for really amazing brands for years, so the production side of it is something that we do anyway. And having been involved in the communities and things I was like, let's just do our own (NFT).”“The idea for Deadfellaz just came really organically. We love horror, and we had been discussing like the fascination with zombies across pop culture and how it brings so many people together and I think that people love spooky stuff.”*Why Deadfellaz had to succeed*Betty and Pysch's backs were against the wall“And it was like, you know, we either throw ourselves into this and it works or it doesn't work and so though that was like the fire, obviously, we have three children, it had to work. And the more we just sat down, it was like, it is going to be amazing.” NFTs give anyone a chance to make a name for themselves, no matter what situation they find themselves in. Even though the “real world” was slowly falling apart around Betty and her family between the Australia fires and COVID, they found their community online and have built an amazing project around it. *Anonymity and Pseudonyms may be the future* Betty considers herself semi doxxed. She has always been called Betty by all of her friends, but it is technically not her legal name. She chose to be anonymous because she wanted to separate her corporate persona from her online one as some corporate clients can be confused between the two. But what most people don't realize is the safety of building a brand behind a pseudonym. Betty and Psych have 3 kids. as they moved into a space where there is a potential of a lot of money, they wanted to protect their family as much as possible. “It's like the second identity, this alter ego that they can't have their colleagues or clients knowing about. And I'm seeing this happen more and more as people want to spend more time in web3.” And on top of all of this, anonymity allows the ability to eliminate (or strengthen) potential biases and take down barriers that are prevalent in web2. Examples of these potential barriers are women entering male-dominated industries, the BIPOC community, LGBTQ+, etc. Betty is one of the thought leaders in this space and wants to make sure that the same issues in web2 don't make it into web3. “We all have that responsibility, it shouldn't just be me and a handful of other women and gender diverse people and people of color and indigenous people fighting for themselves, it needs to be everyone.”*Investing in NFTs is like early-stage investing*Alexis: “I look at these projects, and it's the vibes of the creators. It's their intention, their thoughtfulness, certainly the art and the thoughtfulness of the product. But then it's the community and who here has the sort of minimum viable community to do something that I think will be special in 10 years, not in two months, or 10 hours, but a decade?” If you want to be an accredited investor in private markets, currently you have to either have a gross income exceeding $200,000 in each of the two most recent years or joint income with a spouse or partner exceeding $300,000 for those years. This law creates barriers that don't allow most individuals to participate in private investing. But NFTs break these barriers down because like for Deadfellaz, all you needed to get involved in the project was .025ETH and hit mint before it sold out. *Building a team in web3* As of recording, the Deadfellaz team was at 26 members including 3D artists, copywriters, project managers, narrative designers, Decentraland developers, and more. Most of this team is anonymous and Betty believes that she may never even see some of her mods even though she's worked extremely close with them since the beginning of the project. “The trust is there from the work that people have produced and the validation of their association with other people, like our Decentraland team, we've never met them. We've never seen them.” But how do you pay anonymous people? Betty has the information for about 70% of the people on her team, but the rest are just usernames and wallets. Most teams and corporations aren't ready to embrace certain aspects of web3 culture like paying anonymous people, but this may be one of the key reasons for Deadfellaz success... with fewer barriers comes better talent that allows Betty and her team to build better and faster than other projects. “I think that leaning into those web3 quirks, part of what's gonna bring longevity for our projects because we really trust in the world that we're building in. We're not building a web2 brand, and slapping a web3 label on it like we are intrinsically web3.”*Betty's goals for Deadfellaz in 5 years?* Betty wants Deadfellaz's original holders to be empowered and have their lives changed. Deadfellaz will become a household name that is cemented in pop culture. “Sometimes I wake up and I'm like, “am I dreaming? What's going on?” You know, I check my Twitter, DMs, and emails. And it's just, it's craziness to me what's going on, but it's real life. It's happening. So yeah, just along for the ride.”“I'm going to keep pushing as hard as I can because I think that really special things will happen if we do.”*If you were stranded on an island what NFT would you bring?* Since Betty is bringing herself, she will be bringing her Deadfellaz pfp by default and choose to bring Psych's Deadfellaz pfp with her for company. But she did consider bringing her cool cat. “Oh my god. I love my Cool Cat too. I was actually just looking at cool cats before like, I need to buy another Cool Cat”

“We often talk about how truth will prevail … but lies are sometimes more powerful. … If you don't make a conscious effort to seek out truth, to speak the truth, sometimes you can be surrounded by lies to the point that you can no longer tell [them] apart.” In this episode, we sit down with Peabody Award-winning filmmaker Leon Lee. In his new feature film, “Unsilenced,” he tells the story of a group of students who risk their lives to expose a brutal persecution in China. Like most things critical of the Chinese regime, forces were at work trying to make this film disappear. This week on “The Hard Question” Blanquita Cullum starts the new year by interviewing the outstanding and visionary human rights filmmaker Leon Lee. Lee's new movie, “Unsilenced,” will be released January 21. It's based on the true-life story of the crackdown by the Chinese Communist Party and what a group of students risk to fight for freedom. A very powerful interview and a must-see film. ABOUT THE FILM Based on true events, “Unsilenced” follows Wang, a Chinese student and Falun Gong practitioner, and his friends as they attempt to navigate the 1999 order that banned the spiritual practice in China and remains in effect to this day. New lies and coverups appear around every turn as the Chinese Communist Party attempts to quell the rising voices of dissent, deploying every form of propaganda and suppression that it can muster. With the risk of prison, torture, and even death looming over Wang and his compatriots, they must all make sacrifices to protect the truth and expose the government's human-rights abuses. {Watch the trailer: https://vimeo.com/613981463} ABOUT LEON LEE Leon Lee is an award-winning filmmaker who explores intriguing stories that help shine a light on human rights issues. ALEX CHUNG  & LEON LEE - Founders of Stryde, an innovative fitness app that uses in-game currency to motivate people to get moving.  Stryde co-founders Leon Lee and Alex Chung have created an innovative fitness app that uses in-game currency to motivate people to get moving. Here’s how they did it. Leon Lee and Alex Chung bonded over a mutual love for health and fitness that eventually led them to create Stryde in 2017 – an innovative goal-betting mobile app for fitness enthusiasts. As the first of its kind, the app is a modern reinvention of peer-to-peer accountability in a game-like simulation. It works by having the user’s fitness goals publicly logged and then betted on by others through Stryde’s own in-app currency. Hard-earned points can then be accumulated and exchanged for real-life goodies like CircleDNA, MuscleXP Vitamins, and Nike sport shirts, providing a strong incentive on both ends to stay motivated in achieving their fitness goals. As respective biotechnology and marketing graduates, Leon and Alex’s startup journey within the notoriously difficult tech space was not without its hurdles. They’ve come together to share their personal journey – and how they succeeded in spite of the challenges they faced. ______________________________ LEON LEE https://www.instagram.com/leoninhk/ As the head of UX, product development, and administration, Leon leads the team with tasks such as product development iteration processes and usability tests. He was also the head of product of an HK Science Park incubated mobile app startup previously, he has had the experience of overseeing UX engineers, developers, and UI designers throughout the mobile app development process. He graduated from Imperial College London with a degree in Biotechnology and Management. ALEX CHUNG  https://www.instagram.com/achung6/ As the head of marketing, branding, and business development, Alex works closely with the STRYDE Athletes and partnered brands and companies. As a certified personal trainer, Alex also leverages his network of fitness professionals to help validate the goal-setting and verification processes of the platform. Alex has worked in marketing and PR for a number of years and it is during this time that he developed close relationships with editors and influencers. Some of the brands Alex has worked with include The Edrington Group, Ports 1961, Roger Dubuis, and more. ______________________________ https://www.stryde-app.com/app-features https://www.facebook.com/StrydeApp-200987174178320/ https://www.instagram.com/stryde.app/ https://twitter.com/StrydeApp

It’s Episode 200, and today’s guest is the one and only John Stillman, my husband! I knew for this episode I’d have to invite my special guest back to the show. His first appearance was Episode 100, and since my listeners loved it, I thought it was about time I brought him back for another interview! It’s hard to believe we are here at 200 episodes. It was a different time when I launched this show in the summer of 2016. I certainly didn’t think then about being at episode 200. We have some fun things planned including listener-submitted questions, a review of the top 10 episodes, and more! 4:31 – Kicking things off with the first user-submitted question which is actually a question that many of you asked: “What have things been like for us over the past few months?” We’re both self-employed. John has a financial advising business and media company and went from working in an office to working from home with me! During quarantine 2020, we’ve developed some habits and routines that John enjoys very much, especially getting Chipotle for lunch every Monday. We don’t know what we were doing on Saturdays before Covid-19, but we’ve finished a number of house projects that have been waiting for us to complete them and enjoyed leisurely prepared breakfasts and slow mornings. Since I’m working at home and home-schooling, implementing true rest on the weekends became important too, which led us to examine our Sabbath and really for the first time, intentionally carve out a time for rest on the weekends. John’s weeknight habits have changed too. He’s much less inclined to do any work on his laptop in the evenings, compared to when he was working all day in the office. He’s been more disciplined in keeping his workday confined to regular business hours because he’s already home all day. We both feel much more efficient, too. It’s been really nice to be home together. When John started returning to the office for half days, it was actually much harder than either of us thought it was going to be! The biggest adjustment for me has been recording podcasts at home. I usually go to the recording studio, but moving all of that into well, basically my closet, has been a big transition. 10:19 – User Submitted Questions, Let’s Dive into the Q&A! 10:40 – Question One: “What is your favorite quality about the other person?” 12:57 – Question Two: “John, you have edited nearly all of Molly’s podcasts episodes. Which one, or which ones have stood out to you. Do you have any particularly favorite interviews?” 14:12 – Question Three: “How do you build your business as a woman without losing your marriage?” 21:03 – We’re going to take a quick break from questions to recap the top 10 episodes of the first 200 of the Business With Purpose podcast! These are the most popular episodes based on the highest number of downloads + a few honorable mentions of my personal favorites: 21: 30, #10 –Episode 129: Chris Solt, Executive Director at Fair Trade Federation 21:47, #9 – Episode 149: Llenay Ferretti, Ten Thousand Villages & Bhava World Project 22:04, #8 – Episode 100: The 100th Episode Spectacular with Guest – My Husband! 22:22, #7 – Episode 110: How To Know If A Brand Is Ethical 22:41, #6 – Episode 139: Mark Choyt, Reflective Jewelry 24:04, #5 – Episode 136: Fair Trade Federation Conference Recap 24:26, #4 Episode 130: Solo Episode, So You Just Marie-Kondo’D Your Life? The first one is for John: “Do you ever feel like a #instagramhusband ? 35:13 – “Do you have any first steps or resources for couples to get on the same page financially before marriage?” 37:49 – “Do you think couples should combine their finances?” 40:43 – “Where do you see the other person in 10 years” 41:53 – I loved that someone asked us the question I ask all my guests: “What does it mean to you to run a business with purpose?” 46:40 – My answer to “What does it mean to you to run a business with purpose?” Thank you for the support that all of you have given me. I truly would not be doing this if not for you being on this journey with me. For those who’ve left comments, I appreciate it so much! If you want to leave a review, it is much appreciated and helps me know how the show is helping you. Subscribing and sharing is also incredibly helpful. Leon Lee is the Peabody Award winning director of the documentary film, Human Harvest. Lee explained that the Chinese government began persecuting a group known as Falun Gong in the 1990s. They can best be described as prisoners of conscious. Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured, harassed, falsely imprisoned, etc. And many of them have been executed with the sole purpose of selling their organs within the Chinese medical system. It's a subject that is so sinister that it's difficult to believe, but evidence provided by Lee and a few award-winning journalists demonstrate that this is a vile human catastrophe that needs much more international attention. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rackets/support

If I’m being honest, I don’t even know how to introduce today’s episode. Back in the Fall, my husband and I had the opportunity to screen a documentary called Letter from Masanjia, and I’ll get into the details of the documentary, and we’ll be talking about it throughout this episode. But, after I saw that documentary, it affected me in ways I can’t even begin to explain. I knew that I wanted to have the producer of that documentary on this episode, and so I reached out to him, and I asked him to come on the show, and he obliged. Today’s episode is tough. It is engaging, challenging, emotional, it’s raw, but my prayer is that it will impact you. My guest is Leon Lee, the founder of Flying Cloud Productions and producer of the documentary, Letter from Masanjia. BECOMING A SELF-TAUGHT DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKER Leon’s first documentary, Human Harvest, was inspired by the accusations of Chinese Organ Harvesting, not too far from his hometown in China. Alongside a team of Canadian researchers, he took 8 years to create the film. It has now been viewed by millions, broadcast in more than 25 countries, and received the 74th Annual Peabody Award for Documentary. THE GLOBAL IMPACT OF LEON’S FILMS While creating the films were not easy, took years of research, and faced much opposition, Leon pressed on for all those affected by the tragedies he was documenting. After the release of his first film, governments around the world began to recognize the serious implications of China’s organ harvesting, even banning certain travelers from traveling to China for organ implantation. LETTER FROM MASANJIA In 2012, an Oregon woman found a cry for help in her K-mart box from a man held prisoner and tortured in Chinese labor camps. Through Leon’s connections, he was able to find the man, Sun Yi, and expose the horrific acts still happening in China today. About Leon Lee, Flying Cloud Productions; Award-winning Canadian filmmaker Leon Lee founded Flying Cloud Productions to share intriguing stories about modern-day China that help shine a light on human rights issues. Their debut film Human Harvest, a documentary about China’s illegal organ trade, was broadcast in over 25 countries and was the recipient of numerous accolades including the illustrious Peabody Award. Their recent feature documentary Letter from Masanjia premiered at Hot Docs 2018 and is currently playing in theatres and scooping awards at festivals worldwide. In this episode, I interview director Leon Lee on his latest documentary, "Letter from Masanjia." In 2012, a story in The Oregonion went viral. A woman named Julie Keith had opened a box of Halloween decorations from KMart and discovered an SOS letter written by Sun Yi, a man imprisoned and tortured in a Chinese labor camp for engaging in the spiritual practice of Falun Gong. Keith publicized the letter, and the international attention eventually led to the abolishment of these labor camps and freed many people in the process. I talk to Lee about Sun Yi's story, how the documentary was made, and the larger issues it raises about the source of cheap goods, the persecution of minorities, and the power of small actions. Written and directed by internationally acclaimed filmmaker and Peabody Award winner, Leon Lee, LETTER FROM MASANJIA is an astonishing & riveting documentary follows the true story of an Oregon woman who finds a desperate SOS letter penned by a political prisoner in her Halloween decorations and the nail-biting chain of events that it sparks when she takes the letter public, exposing appalling flagrant human rights violations - that leads to sweeping labor reform in China. The impact of what those two unlikely heroes have accomplished is even more profound in today’s rapidly boiling over political climate, not just in China but around the rest of the world. LETTER FROM MASANJIA is a devastating tale of human rights violations in current day China with corporate giants across the globe receiving prisoner labor efforts for Halloween decorations, asking no questions in a price for pennies on the dollar. This is the tale of one political prisoners desperate plea to alert the world to horrors most of society sweeps under the carpet. Director and writer Leon Lee stops by to talk about the tens of thousands of people currently incarcerated in labor camps, and the millions more living in fear as well as the people resisting a totalitarian regime. Set in 1944 Germany, Asante explores an oft-overlooked part of World War II history – the Rhineland Bastards, the name given by the Nazis to those of mixed race. Another part of Hitler's "cleansing", Asante sets the stage and brings us into time and place with a love story between a young girl of mixed parents named Leyna, and Lutz, one of the exuberant Nazi Youth and son of a famed member of the Nazi military regime. Listen as Asante talks about her approach to telling this story from the visual immersion to the emotional resonance, the contemporary relevance of the film today, and shooting at a former concentration camp. Moving from 1944 Germany to present-day China, Peabody Award winner and filmmaker LEON LEE takes us deep into the story of Sun Yi, a man held prisoner in the Masanjia Labor Camp, with his powerhouse documentary, LETTER FROM MASANJIA. Hiding a note inside a Halloween decoration (a headstone, no less) made in the prison for shipment to the United States for sale in a K-Mart store, Sun Yi begged the finder of the note to contact human rights organizations and alert them to the abuse and torture at Masanjia. Luckily for Sun Yi, in 2012 Julie Keith of Oregon opened up the Halloween decorations she had purchased two-years earlier and found the note. Lee, an authority on China, takes us down the rabbit hole and into Sun Yi's experiences and persecution for his involvement with Falun Gong, a spiritual group founded on the moral philosophies of truth, compassion and tolerance. Filmmakers will be amazed to learn of the lengths Lee had to go into order to make this film as he is not allowed to enter China, and Sun Yi, on his release from Masanjia could not leave the country. A fascinating conversation. And then we welcome acclaimed writer/director and President of Uniglobe Entertainment, NAMRATA SINGH GUJRAL, talking about her new film 5 WEDDINGS! A cultural explosion showcasing the beauty and wonders of India set against a fictional story of a magazine journalist seeking the Editor-In-Chief position which will be determined by the quality of this unique assignment, Gujral's enthusiasm about the film is palpable as she talks about its structure, deciding on the weddings to focus upon (there are 15 different types of weddings in India), including the Hijara as an important part of the film, focusing on the relationships of fathers & daughters, true love, tradition, working with her cinematographer Christo Bakalov, casting Bo Derek and Candy Clark, the importance of authentic casting, and advice for filmmakers about finding your target audience. http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com
