In this message from Isaiah 58:8–12, we continue where last week left off. After God called His people to true repentance in verses 1–7, we now see the blessings and promises that flow from living His way. Isaiah paints a picture of light breaking through darkness, healing springing up, and God's presence going before us. This passage shows what happens when faith is not only confessed but lived out in justice, mercy, and humility. If part one challenged us to examine our hearts and our worship, part two invites us to see the results of obedience, renewal, guidance, strength, and restoration. This is a word of hope for anyone longing to see God move in their life, family, and community.
When someone you love struggles with addiction, the entire family feels the weight, but what if recovery could run parallel? On this episode of Groove with Portia, I'm joined by Lisa Katona-Smith, Certified Peer Recovery Specialist and founder of Parallel Recovery. Lisa opens up about her personal journey through addiction as a mother, and how her family's experience with ambiguous grief and emotional fatigue inspired her to create a new path toward healing. We explore the concept of parallel recovery support, a family-centered approach to addiction recovery that empowers parents and loved ones to heal alongside the person struggling with substance use disorder. Lisa explains why the traditional recovery system often overlooks families, and how sustainable practices like boundary-setting, emotional detachment, and self-compassion are essential for long-term recovery and mental wellness. If you've ever wrestled with questions like “How do I support a loved one with addiction without losing myself?” or “Can I feel hopeful again after years of grief and emotional exhaustion?”—this episode will give you the tools and inspiration to begin healing, for both your loved one and yourself.Lisa also shares insights from her new book Parallel Recovery: A Guide for Those Who Love Someone with Substance Use Disorder.Connect with Lisa: https://lisakatonasmith.com/

Isaiah 58:1–7 is a powerful call from God that pulls back the curtain on empty religion and points us to the heart of true worship. In this passage, God confronts His people for fasting and performing rituals without real obedience or compassion. He shows us that what He desires most is not outward shows of holiness, but lives marked by justice, mercy, and love. This sermon explores what it means to practice a faith that pleases God. We will look at the difference between hollow religion and genuine devotion, and how God's vision of worship calls us to care for the hungry, lift up the oppressed, and live with humility. Isaiah 58 reminds us that God is not impressed with rituals that do not change our hearts. He is after a people whose love for Him is reflected in how they treat others.
It's one of the most demanding and unusual humanitarian missions happening in the world today, and it's being carried out at sea, by the crew of the Ocean Viking rescue vessel. Chartered by SOS MEDITERRANEE in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the ship patrols the Mediterranean Sea to rescue people in deep distress at sea. Crew members spend months at sea, living in small births, constantly on the lookout for boats in distress — small dinghies, full of people, lost among the waves. It's a dangerous assignment. Rescues often happen at night, during times of heavy winds and choppy seas. And it's not only the forces of nature that make this mission perilous – only a week ago, after this podcast was recorded, the Ocean Viking was hit by multiple gunshots. So why do they do it? How did the people lost at sea find themselves in these perilous situations? And how does the Ocean Viking crew find them on the vast seascape of the Mediterranean? In this episode we take you on board the Ocean Viking with Sara Mancinelli, the IFRC operations manager aboard the Ocean Viking and Camille Coletta, IFRC's protection coordinator aboard the ship. Please, join us for an immersive audio journey aboard the Ocean Viking, then please subscribe to this channel to hear more compelling audio storytelling as Season 5 of Red Vest podcast gets under way.

Hint: it's not about discipline, willpower, or self-control. Episode Summary: In this powerful and raw episode of Healing Starts With the Heart, grief specialist Sharon Brubaker asks a deeply uncomfortable—but necessary—question: What if the pain isn't the problem… but the key to your healing? Sharon breaks down why so many of us are still stuck in our grief—not because we're doing it wrong, but because no one ever taught us how to feel the pain instead of managing it. From performative grief to inherited patterns, she shares how unprocessed pain keeps us in a holding pattern of burnout, resentment, and silence. You'll learn how to stop performing, start feeling, and allow grief to finally move through you—instead of staying trapped inside your body.

“ I tore my ACL last April; it's been very challenging. Do you have any ideas on how to make the recovery process fun? Also, why do I feel so lost and confused without my sport—what should I do with this feeling? —Ava In season 8 of The Injured Athletes Club podcast, mental skills coach Carrie Jackson answers a question every other week about the mental side of overcoming injuries. This week, in response to Ava, she reiterates one of the key messages of The Injured Athletes Club: That you are still an athlete, and recovery is now your sport. And the first part of that recovery is feeling your feelings, not pushing them aside or denying they exist. To help, Coach Carrie recommends writing down your thoughts (in an Injured Athletes Club journal, if you like!). As for adding fun to your routine, she suggests asking your PT if you mix up your exercises a bit. You can also set specific goals in rehab—ones that excite you—and plan celebrations for when you hit them. Finally, Coach Carrie suggests finding a goal buddy, who can make your journey both more exciting and more meaningful as you go through the tough stuff together. In this episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, hosted by Coach Ashlie Walton and Sergeant Clint Walton, we delve into the powerful concept of stress loops and the long-term impact unresolved stress can have on your body and mind. Research shows that one stressful event can trigger the production of stress hormones in your body for up to six hours afterward—and many of us experience far more than just one stressful event in a day. In today's society, we are taught to suppress our emotions and hold it all together, but doing so creates what we call ""emotional constipation."" In this episode, we discuss the dangers of not completing the stress cycle and offer practical ways to process your stress in a healthy way. Understanding the Stress Loop: When we experience stress, our body is wired to feel it to completion. But in today's world, where any emotion outside of ""neutral"" or ""happy"" is often deemed inappropriate, we bury our stress and move on without resolving it. We'll explain what a stress loop is and why it's essential to close it for your overall health. The Consequences of Unresolved Stress: From emotional to physical constipation, we'll explore how bottling up stress can lead to both mental and physical health issues. The longer the stress remains unresolved, the more it impacts your body, potentially leading to burnout, chronic fatigue, and even illness. How Stress Manifests in the Body (Amazon Affiliate): We'll discuss how unresolved stress can leave your body stuck in a constant state of fight or flight. When the stress loop isn't closed, your body continues to pump out stress hormones, leading to long-term anxiety, tension, and even digestive problems. Why Animals Close the Loop and Humans Don't: In the wild, animals instinctively shake after escaping a predator, which helps them complete the stress loop. Humans, however, often suppress these instincts due to societal pressures. We'll explore why this is harmful and how we can learn from nature's stress management techniques. Five Practical Ways to Close the Stress Loop: Movement: Physical movement is one of the most effective ways to process stress. Whether it's a workout, yoga, or simply shaking out your body, moving helps release pent-up tension. Deep Breathing: Controlled breathing techniques can help signal to your nervous system that it's safe to relax, allowing you to complete the stress response. Express Your Emotions: Don't be afraid to scream into a pillow, cry, or vent to someone you trust. Allowing yourself to feel the emotion fully is crucial to processing it. Mindfulness Practices: Meditation, visualization, or progressive muscle relaxation can help calm your nervous system and complete the stress loop. Creative Expression: Sometimes writing, drawing, or engaging in a hobby can help you express and release emotions that are stuck, allowing you to resolve stress in a healthy way. Join us as we explore how unresolved stress affects your body and mind, and provide you with actionable strategies to help you close your stress loops. Whether you're dealing with the daily demands of life as a first responder or simply trying to manage everyday stress, this episode is packed with valuable insights to help you find relief and balance. In this week's episode of The HX Podcast, I sit down with a truly remarkable guest to explore the profound experience of grief, a topic close to my heart. We discuss everything from personal loss—like the sudden, devastating passing of Myrae, her beloved Sheltie—to the layered emotions that come with supporting loved ones through serious illness, such as my daughter's cancer diagnosis. It's a conversation that really underscores how grief is not something we "get over" quickly; instead, it's a deep, ongoing process that changes us at our core. What really struck me in this episode is how we often underestimate the impact of grief in professional spaces. Whether it's navigating the emotional fallout of a layoff or losing a trusted mentor, the grief we experience at work is often dismissed or unaddressed. We touch on the importance of making space for these emotions, for ourselves and others, and how being present with grief, not trying to fix it, can be the greatest gift we offer. This episode is all about honoring where you are in your journey and surrounding yourself with those who can sit with you in the hard moments. It's raw, real, and a reminder that grief is part of the human experience, personally and professionally. Stacie More episodes at StacieBaird.com.
