The worst thing since sliced bread. The Enterprise shows up at a secret human colony that's super into their eugenics. Troi beams down and tries to save everyone by boning the creepy leader guy while the arbiter Martin SCOWLS. Like, heavily. A lot. Troi smashes but it's Geordi and the hot blonde physicist Hannah who save the day from a star fragment or something. Hannah defects, and that's the A plot eventually. Our favorite crewmembers do and say some fucked-up shit. The end. It's remarkable that a early 90s sci-fi show examined the idea of rape. The Enterprise plays host to a race of psychic spelunkers on a quest to catalog the galaxy's memories for history's sake. The father is a flirty fool, saying some inappropriate things to the Dr. Beverly Crusher after he skillfully illuminates a memory for Keiko. But it's the son who is the real monster. He attaches himself to a memory of Troi and Riker lingering after a poker game and turns it ugly. He then terrorizes more of the crew until Troi kicks him in the balls. Good.   Get in touch with us on BlueSky @ReEngageTNG.bsky.social!    Host: Jimmie G (@thejimmieg on IG & Twitter)  Panel: Erik Gratton (@erikfallsdown on Twitter & IG), Kate Jaeger (@jaegerlicious on Twitter and IG), and Greg Tito (Gregtito.com, @GregTito on Bluesky, @gregtito on Twitter, @greg_tito on IG)  Audio Editor: Jimmie G (@thejimmieg on IG & Twitter) Logo artwork: @mojojojo_97 on Twitter, mojo97.com Theme music: Ryan Marth   Next up is s5e13 "The Masterpiece Society" hosted by Erik!

Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who Podcast

This week, Nathan, Brendan, Simon and Colin are trapped in a room with only forty-five minutes to decide whether Kill the Moon is terrible or a towering work of genius. It goes quite well, surprisingly. Notes and links Brendan suggests that Kill the Moon addresses the Guns versus Frocks, um, disagreement, which reached its peak during the heyday of the Virgin New Adventures. Nathan wrote an essay about his take on the debate many, many years ago. El Sandifer's essay on TARDIS Eruditorum contains, as you might expect, a clever reading of this episode, and both Brendan and Nathan find reasons to refer to it here. Colin and Brendan mention science fiction shows called The Expanse and Babylon 5, but I absolutely refuse to do any research into them at all. Follow us Nathan is on Twitter as @nathanbottomley, Brendan is @brandybongos, Simon is @simonmoore72, and Colin is @colin_neal. The Flight Through Entirety theme was arranged by Cameron Lam. You can follow the podcast on Twitter at @FTEpodcast. We're also on Facebook and Mastodon, and you can check out our website at flightthroughentirety.com. Please consider rating or reviewing us on Apple Podcasts, or we'll make such a fun and ambitious episode of your favourite TV show that you die of embarrassment whenever your friends mention it. And more We've got an exciting new Doctor Who project to launch at the start of 2024, but — annoyingly — we're not going to tell you anything more about it yet. Stay tuned. In the meantime, you can find Jodie into Terror, our flashcast on the entirety of the Whittaker Era of Doctor Who, at jodieintoterror.com, at @JodieIntoTerror on Twitter, on Apple Podcasts, and wherever podcasts can be found. We'll be back with a new flashcast on the second Russell T Davies era in November. Our James Bond commentary podcast is called Bondfinger, and you can find that at bondfinger.com, at @bondfingercast on Twitter, on Apple Podcasts, and everywhere else as well. We can also be heard on the Blakes 7 podcast Maximum Power, which has completed its coverage of the first half of the show's entire run. Recording is continuing on schedule, and our coverage of Series C should be ready for you later in the year. There's also our Star Trek commentary podcast, Untitled Star Trek Project, featuring Nathan and friend-of-the-podcast Joe Ford. In our most recent episode, we were bored rigid as the crew of the Enterprise completely dismantled a horrible authoritarian human colony in The Masterpiece Society.

#208 So apparently a bunch of almost-certainly unbearably pretentious jackasses left Earth centuries ago to create a "perfect" society via genetic engineering & eugenics, and shockingly it... sort of worked out ok? Until the Enterprise arrives and ruins it by... saving it from utter destruction. Kind of a weird angle to come at the whole thing, now that we think about it. Well, in the end, you can definitely call the society a piece of SOMETHING, anyway. You'll just have to listen to find out what that "something" is (you've probably already guessed), along with our experiences in the infrastructural shortcomings of certain South Asian countries, probing analysis of the career of noted renaissance... sorry, encino man P. Shore, an exciting cameo by everyone's FAVORITE CRYSTAL, and so much much in what someone, somewhere, across the vast infinity of space might just (purely by infinite monkey theorem) call a "masterpiece" of Trek TV! Though honestly, if the crystal alone isn't enough, we're afraid there may be no hope for you. Visit our website for fan art, news and more!

Today on the podcast I am joined by Alisha Gratehouse and her daughter Olivia from Masterpiece Society. As fans of art, Alisha and Olivia have started a new art appreciation podcast that takes a fun and "cheeky" look at artists and their work. In fact, it is quickly becoming a favorite of the teens and tweens in my house. In this episode of the show discover what is unique about the Masterpiece Maker's approach to studying the artists, why it is far from boring, and how you can use this free resource in your own homeschool Morning Time to study the great masters.

Today’s interview is with Alisha Gratehouse from Masterpiece Society. As some of you know, my middle is an artist. And a good one. So, we were excited to get the Masterpiece Society Studio for her about a month or so ago. She has absolutely LOVED it. So, I reached out to Alisha about possibly coming on as a guest to talk about art, and not only did she agree, but she also offered to SPONSOR the podcast. So, of course, I said YES. But, who is Alisha, let’s learn more about her! Alisha Gratehouse As an artsy-craftsy mom, who embraced the Charlotte Mason educational philosophy early on. She has been married to Jason, the love of her life, for over 26 years now. And they have three beautiful children. Her desire is to inspire, encourage, and empower you to live an abundant and satisfying life – a life that flourishes in every area: spirit, soul, and body!  In 2014 she began offering a full art curriculum to other busy moms…and now, together with her adult kids, they are embracing the messy, fun art life…and are helping other moms like you explore art with your kids in a fun, memory-making way. In today's episode we are talking about the following topics regarding homeschool art: How we as busy moms can make time for homeschool art  What does art mean to Alisha and her family?   How can I get over my fears and embrace art? How can a mom encourage an artistic child when she doesn’t have an artistic bone in her body? If you liked this episode be sure to leave a rating or review. "We were innocent. It will never be that way again." We discuss “The Masterpiece Society”, which develops many of the same themes as TOS’s “Paradise”, but more sophisticated, including stagnation in a closed system and balanced societies as boring. Laura has a theory about this society being connected to the Eugenics Wars and we discuss the implications for women in this highly controlled society (it doesn't look good). Geordi and Troi are the episode MVPs, but Geordi wins for Smoothest MFer.

Do they ever get it right? Someone else who has watched the whole series; do they ever get it right by Geordi? I'm thinking and I can't come up with even one episode in this series where they do it. Maybe season three's "The Enemy"? Anyway, "The Masterpiece Society" is a fun little episode, even if it lacks some action and the romance doesn't work and the science is shaky. This season has so many good episodes that being lackluster is damning in comparison. The Beige and The Bold is hosted on Anchor and is available on most podcasting platforms.
