Vaibhav is a runner next door whose story will make you relate with you and inspire you to get out of the door and start running yourself. He was an absolute beginner up until 2021, struggled with Bronchitis and had never run before. Since then, he has come a long way and he is only getting started.Vaibhav spent time in being consistent, stayed disciplined and relentlessly prioritized his fitness. He then debuted in a marathon at Rome in 2025 and got to the finish line in an impressive time of 3:03. He improvised it in Paris a month later to xxxx. He stayed patient, trained further and clocked an even more impressive finish time of 2:48:50 in 2026 London Marathon. Did you know he cramped at around 29 kms and so he had to cut back on his paces in the remaining 13 kms. If he stays on track, he may very well be running a much faster time in the months and years to come.In this episode we cover:How setbacks from UPSC results and bronchitis did not deter him from getting fitter, and eventually fasterWhy two years of 10 kilometres a day with no watch and no plan built a large aerobic baseHow Vaibhav went from 3:03 at Rome to 2:48 at London in under a yearThe 26-week training block that took him from 60 kilometres a week to 100 to 110 kilometres a weekHow interval sessions with his run club, Clapham Chasers, brought his 5K time from 18:30 to 17:16What went wrong at London — cramping at 28km due to a complete lack of electrolytes — and what he would do differentlyHow a corporate lawyer in London manages to train twice a day while working long hoursWhy discipline, not talent, is the only thing that separates people who achieve from people who do notAbout Vikas Singh:Vikas Singh, an MBA from Chicago Booth, worked at Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, APGlobale, and Reliance before coming up with the idea of democratizing fitness knowledge and helping beginners get on a fitness journey. Welcome back to Run with Fitpage! As the 130th Boston Marathon approaches on April 20, 2026, we are bringing back one of our most cherished conversations — our episode with Jack Fultz, the 1976 Boston Marathon champion. This year marks the Golden Jubilee of Jack Fultz's legendary victory — 50 years since one of the most iconic and grueling races in marathon history. On that day, temperatures had already crossed 100 degrees an hour before the noon start. Spectators lined the course with garden hoses to cool down the runners, earning the race its legendary name, "The Run for the Hoses." With fewer than 40 percent of the 1,898 starters managing to finish, Jack held his composure, took the lead with six miles to go, and never looked back, finishing in 2:20:19 to become only the 5th American to win Boston since World War II.In this episode, Jack takes us deep into his race strategy, his mindset, and the lessons he learned from running one of the most brutal marathons in history. He shares the fascinating insight that viewing other runners as allies rather than opponents was one of the key reasons behind his victory. Post his running career, Jack has coached the Dana Farber Institute Boston Marathon team and spent nearly 30 years teaching sports psychology at Tufts University, making him one of the most thoughtful voices on what it truly takes to run and winIf you are an Indian runner heading to Boston this April, or a runner anywhere in the world gearing up for your biggest race yet, this conversation is one you cannot afford to miss. From race strategy and pacing to the mental side of running 26.2 miles, Jack covers it all — and every word of it is as relevant today as it was 50 years ago.Whether you are toeing the start line in Hopkinton this April, chasing a personal best, or simply a lover of the sport, this episode is a masterclass in racing smart, staying mentally strong, and finding meaning in every mile.About Vikas Singh:Vikas Singh, an MBA from Chicago Booth, worked at Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, APGlobale, and Reliance before coming up with the idea of democratizing fitness knowledge and helping beginners get on a fitness journey. Over the years, I have spoken with many clients who really don't understand the process behind design. I think there are many beginner and mid-level designers that don't fully understand process, means and methods. If a client wants their projects completed quickly, they can always find a designer who will do it for them. It's their replacement who has to pick up the pieces. I can hear many of you nodding in agreement as I say this. It's the journey, like that of a runner. You don't decide to run a marathon, buy a pair of shoes and run it. There is a process. A very long and challenging process. The same is true when trying to become the best at what you do in any endeavor. Just like design. Designer Resources Pacific Sales Kitchen and Home. Design Hardware - A stunning and vast collection of jewelry for the home! - Where service meets excellence TimberTech - Real wood beauty without the upkeep Today, you are going to hear from Holly Hollenbeck. Holly and I discussed the parallels between long-distance running and project management. Holly, an experienced ultra-distance runner, shared her lessons learned from participating in challenging races, emphasizing the importance of strategic planning, determination, and experience. She also highlighted how these experiences have influenced her approach to project strategy and risk management. Holly shares some of the challenges she faced in her design and client management roles due to the Covid-19 pandemic and economic fluctuations. She emphasized the importance of clear communication with clients, setting expectations upfront, and being flexible to pivot when necessary. We also discussed the differences in real estate design and mentality between the United States, Europe, and Asia, with a focus on the concept of the ancestral home and the shift towards renovating existing homes rather than moving due to high housing costs. There is an overwhelming need to adapt to constantly changing market conditions and client needs. Holly shares her experience of having her kitchen design featured on the cover of California Home and Design in 2007, which she attributed to serendipity and connections with friends. Holly and I discussed the pitfalls of designing homes based on current trends, emphasizing the importance of creating cohesive, functional spaces rather than focusing on individual, trendy elements. They highlighted the risk of a design becoming outdated and the need to balance trendy elements with timeless pieces. Holly shared her approach to navigating clients' desires for trendy features by ensuring these elements are used in unique and personalized ways. And you are going to hear all about it, right after this. Thank you Holly, loved our chat. Keep on truckin. Christopher McDougall visits Google to discuss his book “Born to Run.” Full of incredible characters, amazing athletic achievements, and cutting-edge science, Born to Run is an epic adventure that began with one simple question: Why does my foot hurt? In search of an answer, Christopher McDougall sets off to find a tribe of the world's greatest distance runners and learn their secrets, and in the process shows us that everything we thought we knew about running is wrong. Isolated by the most savage terrain in North America, the reclusive Tarahumara Indians of Mexico's deadly Copper Canyons are custodians of a lost art. For centuries they have practiced techniques that allow them to run hundreds of miles without rest and chase down anything from a deer to an Olympic marathoner while enjoying every mile of it. Their superhuman talent is matched by uncanny health and serenity, leaving the Tarahumara resistant to the diseases and strife that plague modern existence. With the help of Caballo Blanco, a mysterious loner who lives among the tribe, Christopher was able not only to uncover the secrets of the Tarahumara but also to find his own inner ultra-athlete, as he trained for the challenge of a lifetime: a fifty-mile race through the heart of Tarahumara country pitting the tribe against an odd band of Americans, including a star ultramarathoner, a beautiful young surfer, and a barefoot wonder. With a sharp wit and wild exuberance, McDougall takes us from the high-tech science labs at Harvard to the sun-baked valleys and freezing peaks across North America, where ever-growing numbers of ultrarunners are pushing their bodies to the limit, and, finally, to the climactic race in the Copper Canyons. Born to Run is that rare book that will not only engage your mind but inspire your body when you realize that the secret to happiness is right at your feet, and that you, indeed all of us, were born to run. Mirelle in her own words: “My name is Mireille and I'm a certified run coach, autoimmune athlete, and podcast host based in Los Angeles, California. Welcome to the Purple Patch podcast. This week, we aim to inspire, instill hope, and create opportunities. Many people watch others doing amazing things and think, "That's not for me. I couldn't do that." But the truth is, you can do it if you apply a smart and patient approach that builds incrementally over time. Before you know it, you can look back and marvel at what you have accomplished, regardless of the challenge or goal, whether in sport or life. In this week's episode, IRONMAN Master Coach Matt Dixon focuses on marathon and half marathon races. Half marathons are a great starting point for many people and can serve as a bridge to longer distances. Whether you've struggled with injuries or don't consider yourself a runner, Matt offers insight and tips to help you break through those barriers. Drawing from two case studies, Matt explores the common challenges faced by athletes training for long-distance runs and offers simple solutions to maximize their potential. The first case study features an athlete who initially believed completing a race was impossible, but ultimately discovered untapped capabilities. The second case study showcases an athlete who overcame injuries by adjusting their approach and achieved significant success. We believe you'll find these stories informative, helpful, and inspiring and we hope they motivate you to take on your challenges. Matt also shares his five-point plan to help you refocus your approach and mindset, to get you started on your first or next long-distance race. Check out our free live webinar, Strategies to Nail Your Marathon & Half Marathon, where Matt offers a more in-depth analysis of these points. Welcome back to Time for Brunch, Today's episode features two truly remarkable women. First we get to meet a marathon pacer on a mission! As a vice principal and mother, Stephanie Dunlap thought her marathon-running days were as far-fetched as a fantasy brunch with running legend Kathrine Switzer. Yet, in a heart-to-heart conversation, she reveals her extraordinary transformation from a bystander to a 37-time marathoner, and her commitment to making the sport inclusive for all. Her story is not just about the miles she's conquered, but a testament to the resilience and empowerment that comes with each step, and the balance she strikes between the demands of motherhood, a professional career, and her passion for running.Transitioning from personal victories to shared triumphs, we explore the selfless world of pacing in marathons. We delve into the strategies and emotional strength required to support a diverse group of runners, especially those who complete a marathon in six hours or more. It's a celebration of the unsung heroes and an affirmation that the back-of-the-pack runners are every bit as commendable for their endurance and spirit. You can stay in touch with Stephanie on Instagram here. Then, we shift from the physical to the mental, embracing the serenity that comes with mindfulness and meditation. With Angela Smith's insights, we discuss starting small, finding your rhythm, and how meditation can help you become a stronger runner and more capable leader. We cap off the episode by exploring retreat opportunities that pair the calming practice of yoga with the invigorating challenge of running, all within nurturing environments that promise growth and transformation. As runners, we've been told over the last 40 years or so that the only way to fuel for running is with carbohydrates. Loads and loads of carbs. The thing is, this approach just doesn't work for everyone. Some people (like me) gain a lot of weight eating all those carbs, regardless of how much we run. In this episode, I offer an alternative way to fuel long-distance running, one that doesn't cause you to gain weight in the process. The post 216. An Alternative Way To Fuel Long-Distance Running appeared first on Running Lean with Patrick McGilvray.

Matt Welcomes former professional runner, running coach, and author Lauren Fleshman to the show to celebrate the release of her autobiographical memoir, Good for a Girl: A Woman Running in a Man's World. Lauren details her new book which uses her personal experience and the challenges she faced as a collegiate and professional athlete in a male-centric environment, as a catalyst to bring about significant change in women's athletics. Matt and Lauren discuss women's sports in a male arena and how to reframe the female experience in a way that is grounded in knowledge of the female body. They cover the taboo of female physiology embedded in the culture of the sport. Lauren dissects the toxic talk that hinders natural performance development, can lead to body dysmorphia, and can encourage disordered eating habits in athletes. Matt and Lauren offer applicable tools for developing a foundation of support for female athletes as coaches, teammates, and loved ones, to help foster positive and healthy growth, improved performance, and longevity. Whether you are a coach, a parent, a supporter, or an athlete yourself, this episode provides insight into the diversity of voices and experiences at every level of sport.
