The girlies are not alright and we are declaring nostalgia dead! Also hi, we're back, did you miss us?! Ari, Demi, Miley, Selena, the Jonas Brothers (also Mitchel Musso are you ok?). These Disney (and Nick!) girls and guys are kind of stuck in the past! We're kind of bored! We bid farewell to High School Musical The Musical The Series (forever) and The Summer I Turned Pretty & And Just Like That (until Season 3). Also Scooter Braun did something Bad, Rina Sawayama & Charli XCX were feuding for like 24 hours, and we're loving new music from Renee Rapp, Victoria Monet, & Hozier.

This week, the randomizer goes all the way back to 2009 to pick yet another Disney Channel Original Movie, and in this case, it's a DCOM about that strange mysterious fantastical creature known colloquially as the "chicken." What is a chicken? Where did they come from? What do they want from us? Which came first, the chicken or the guy named Pete? What does a guy named Pete have to do with any of this? Why in God's name did the Disney Channel think it was a great idea to make a movie about a basketball mascot that's just an ugly chicken suit? Why is the town in said movie full of grown-ass adults with seemingly nothing better to do with their lives than obsess - there's no other word for it, OBSESS - over said ugly chicken suit? How long can you watch this movie before your nose starts bleeding? What's the meaning of life? What happens after we die? Regular or extra-crispy? And for the love of God, who the hell is Tommy? On this episode, we hope to answer at least none of those questions. Join Tony Goldmark, Morgan Funder, Brianna Garcia and Kit Leitmeyer as they name an egg "Pete" for some reason and take turns sitting on it for some completely unrelated other reason, and in the process hopefully succeed in HATCHING PETE! This week Jason is joined by hit singer-songwriter, Justin Jesso who has over 8 billion streams on his collaborations with artists such as Ricky Martin, The Backstreet Boys, and Kyga! Justin has since made his mark as a solo artist within the music industry starting by coming up within the music theater space in Chicago at a young age. After releasing his debut album at just 18, he eventually found himself touring with Disney artists such as Jesse McCartney, Jordin Spark, and Raven Simone all over the country. His song “Stargazing” has over 500 million streams on Spotify. Justin gives insight to the importance of a song having his name and voice associated with it, how attending a camp sparked his interest in songwriting, how he got noticed by Radio Disney, breaking down what goes into a song, and how the payment is distributed for a song. Justin also reveals how he ended up on tour with Jesse McCartney, Jordan Sparks, Raven Simone, and Mitchel Musso, the different ways to monetize off a song, how much can be made on a general deal as a songwriter, the complexities of copyright in music, what inspired the screenplay he has written, and breaking down the role publishing and masters play with the Taylor Swift/Scooter Braun example. When did he get discovered? Does streaming or radio pay more for the publisher? What is his biggest issue with the music industry? How long does it take for publishing money to come in? How did he get this stage name? Justin reveals all that and so much more in another episode you can't afford to miss! Actor and musician Mitchel Musso (@mitchelmusso) joins Justin on the podcast this week with his NEW MUSIC after taking some time away from the big screen. The Hannah Montana star opens up candidly about how he purposely “chose himself first” in order to bring the best version of himself to everyone in his life. It's no secret that all of us have thought about how loving ourselves will in turn nurture the other areas of our life, well, we're in luck on this episode because Mitchel is a walking example of how it really does work! Mitchel has returned to the spotlight with new original music inspired by his experiences with love, heartbreak, emotional ups and downs, and life accomplishments. Most recently, he released the first single “Drank” off his upcoming Mixtape “Ghost”. Mitchel starred in three successful Disney projects, “Hannah Montana,” “Pair of Kings,” and “Phineas and Ferb,” as well as Columbia Pictures' “Monster House.” Mitchel began his music career at a young age, releasing his first album through Walt Disney Records, but didn't find his true passion and sound until he stripped the "work" away from the music, and began making music stemming from his life's inspirations.
