For over 25 years, Brett Leonard has been at the forefront of the digital media revolution - whether it be as Director/ Writer of the groundbreaking hit film Lawnmower Man, which introduced the concept of Virtual Reality to popular culture - or being the first to pioneer modern stereoscopic techniques and photo-realistic CGI in his hit IMAX 3D film “T-Rex” - or introducing American audiences to Russell Crowe and many other talents both in front of and behind the camera. Brett's work as a visionary Director/Producer/Futurist has always pushed the edge of innovation in the entertainment industry, and continues to do so with a project slate at his company Studio Lightship, focused on creation of VX (Virtual eXperience) executed in a hybrid approach with Film and Television. Studio Lightship is dedicated to defining a process and platform for truly interactive narrative VX StoryWorlds for the emerging era of Immersive Entertainment. Brett is currently finishing two feature film projects he has directed- “Hollywood Rooftop”, the first film to be shot in both 360VR and traditional cinema - and “Triumph”, starring Academy Award Nominee Terrence Howard, star of the hit television series “Empire”, and RJ Mitte, star of the groundbreaking series “Breaking Bad”. You have to know what good narrative is. Knowing how that works in the human conscious and unconscious. That's really important. - Brett Leonard “I mean you don't even need to go to a college and get the tools. You can actually find those tools online. You could shoot with your phone, play around and really find out what works for you and your point of view as a storyteller.”- Brett Leonard “Blade Runner is really a narrative environment more than it is a traditional plot. I mean, the plot is incredibly simple. You know, Android chases other Androids and finds out he's an Android. You don't watch that movie again and again, because of the plot, you watch that cause you're exploring a narrative environment that has such richness in it.”- Brett Leonard Connecting with the Guest: Twitter: https://twitter.com/directorleonard LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brettleonard1/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brettleonard1/ Connecting with CG Pro: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/becomecgpro Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/becomecgpro/ Website: https://www.becomecgpro.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/becomecgpro RSVP here for upcoming CG Pro Podcasts: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/cg-pro-39748423833 #virtualproduction#storytelling#filmmaking

In episode 3 we turn the spotlight on the fashion and film industries to find out why they are still playing catch up on becoming truly representative of the disabled community. We'll hear from Jameela Jamil, RJ Mitte, Sinéad Burke, Eryn Brown, Keely Cat Wells, Jim LeBrecht, Christina Mallon and Ellie Cole, who each have their story to tell about ableism in fashion and media. Jameela Jamil tells us about battling entertainment industry ableism as a performer with an invisible disability, while RJ Mitte tells us about how he purposefully normalized his disability in the early days of his career. We talk to CEO Keely Cat Wells, who was denied an acting job due to her disability, and now runs a talent agency for disabled talent and LA mega talent agent Eryn Brown, who herself has a disability and knows discrimination only too well, and has just started a 1 in 4' campaign ‘aimed at instigating change in Hollywood. Actor RJ Mitte talks about his latest film, TRIUMPH, which tells the true story of a bright and determined high school senior who strives to be a wrestler despite having cerebral palsy. RJ talks about why he decided to be apart of the project, how he's advocating for individuals living with disabilities, and his own lifelong journey with cerebral palsy. Interviewed by Jared Milrad, RJ also discusses his commitment to inclusion, equity, and representation in Hollywood.
RJ Mitte answers YOUR questions about life with a disability and offers some tips to help you improve every day. The Hollywood actor, best known for appearing in Breaking Bad, discusses his life as part of a special short episode in which he answers questions sent in from social media! “People think of habits as a negative. But I focus on positive habits. What are things you can do that subconsciously turn into a habit?" says Mitte, who was part of British broadcaster Channel 4's presenting team at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio. "With cerebral palsy, a lot of what I'm saying has been programmed in my brain to say it when I want to say it. A lot of people with CP have a delay and it's making that delay shorter for the brain communicating to the body. Making the brain and the body one is a key factor.” To listen to the full episode with RJ and many other Paralympians including Jonnie Peacock and Tatyana McFadden, search ‘A Winning Mindset: Lessons From The Paralympics'. Breaking Bad star RJ Mitte joins us on A Winning Mindset: Lessons From The Paralympics to discuss his love of the Paralympic Games and why he believes Hollywood should be doing more for persons with a disability. Mitte, who starred as Walt Jr in the hit Netflix show, Breaking Bad, talks about how the entertainment industry can represent disability better, particularly after recent backlash over the portrayal of limb difference in The Witches. "It's a marketing ploy," he admits. "They don't care how it blows up, as long as it blows up for long enough to get a return. And when it comes to showing people with disabilities as a hero, it's a case of look at that person overcoming adversity. "The only time you see a disabled hero is when they're in a wheelchair and then walking. There's so many of those that we need to go away from and strive for better." The American actor also spoke on how his role has not only changed him, but how it may have the power to influence other disabled actors. "The closest person I had to relate to (growing up) was Forrest Gump. But he wasn't really disabled," he says. "But I'm now very honoured we have a Walt Jr to look at and to not just be a disabled person, but a pivotal part of a family. Walt Jr set a tone for what we are striving for in the arts and media." Beyond being an actor, Mitte travelled to Rio 2016 as part of the Channel 4 broadcasting team, and he is counting down the days until Tokyo 2020. "Growing up I watched the Olympics but I also watched the Paralympics. I hung around to the end and it was always amazing to see feats that so many people believed were impossible that were actually possible and getting the opportunity to go to Rio, see all the sports and be a part of the team... it really changed my life when it came to perspective. Just seeing this true strength of valour for everyone." RJ Mitte is an American actor and producer most widely known for his role as Walter Jr. on the AMC series Breaking Bad. RJ started his acting career at 13 despite suffering from Cerebral Palsy, and has actually learned to use his disability as an advantage in securing movie and TV parts. RJ is currently in the process of auditioning around the country for his next role. Favorite Success Quote “Find your niche” – Mother Key Points 1. Look at your disabilities as a strength At a very young age, RJ has created a successful career in one of the toughest industries in the world by using his disadvantages as a strength. Despite suffering from CP, Rj has been able to seek out niche roles playing characters with similar disabilities. We often find ourselves using our past, current circumstances or upbringing as an excuse for why we cannot achieve greatly, however, no excuse is valid, and the career that RJ has been able to create for himself is a testament to what can happen in your life when you forgo excuses in favor of action. 2. You must stand up for yourself The world is full of people who are complacent and subservient to others. They allow life, society, a spouse, a friend or any number of external influences to walk all over them and their dreams. You must take control of your own life, and stand up for yourself, stop taking crap from other people and make sure that your voice is heard. 3. Make the most of the time you have Despite its negative connotation, there is great truth in the phrase “YOLO,” you only live once. Do not see this as a green light to live lives of debauchery and frivolity, rather see this as a challenge, a challenge to make the most of the limited time that you have on this earth. You only get one chance to make a difference, you only get one chance to touch lives, you only get one chance to leave a legacy that will ring through the ages, and you only get one chance to make sure that your life is worth something. You only live once, don't waste it.
