Bruno Montesano"Israele - Palestina oltre i nazionalismi"edizioni e/owww.edizionieo.itIl 7 ottobre e la punizione collettiva contro Gaza lasceranno tracce profondissime nelle già lacerate società israeliane e palestinesi. March 18, 2025, Court Leader's Advantage Podcast EpisodeThe relationship between cities and their municipal courts is often marked by underlying tension. While courts must function independently, their close ties to city governments can create friction over revenue, resources, and oversight.Underfunded municipal courts frequently struggle with case backlogs, understaffing, and limited access to justice. Judicial independence and the autonomy of other elected officials, such as the Clerk of Court, can also be at risk when city governments exert influence over judicial appointments, salaries, or case outcomes. This interference undermines the courts' ability to serve as impartial arbiters of the law. This month we will explore the tension between cities and municipal courts. We will also discuss how municipal courts can navigate these challenges.Today's Panelists• Lizzie Alipaz, Court Clerk and Deputy Town Clerk for the Town of Timnath, Colorado• Lori Tyack, elected Clerk of Court for the Franklin County Municipal Court in Columbus, Ohio and• MiHa Kapaki, Court Administrator for the Grays Harbor County District Court in Montesano, WashingtonLeave a question or comment about the episode at clapodcast@nacmnet.org

March 19th Court Leader's Advantage Podcast Episode In April of 2022, we hosted a podcast episode on “The Great Resignation.” At the time large numbers of employees were resigning, or (after being furloughed for some period) were deciding not to return to work. The assumption back then was that this was a temporary phenomenon. Once COVID receded, people would return to work, and things would get back to normal. It is now a year and a half later. COVID is receding, (or at least we think it is). Yet many courts still struggle with staffing shortages. And this is not just limited to courts. The World Bank has predicted that over the next decade, the number of people of working age in the U.S. (between 15 and 65) will decline by over 3 percent. This is a prospect that courts will find increasingly challenging. This month we're going to look at ongoing staff shortages and the battle courts are having to recruit new talent. Not every court is short-handed; not all positions suffer from chronic vacancies. On the other hand, I can't think of a court administrator who has not told me their court struggles to find court reporters, interpreters, and IT staff. Today we are going to delve into several questions: Who is struggling to hire new employees? Are there types of employees that are more challenging to recruit? Has your court experienced operational challenges due to staff shortages? What are job candidates asking for these days regarding working conditions? Are you exploring new ways to recruit employees? Today's Panel Audrey Anger: Assistant Court Administrator for the City of Olathe, Kansas Danielle Trujillo: Court Administrator for the Municipal Court in Littleton, Colorado Dana Bartocci: Human Resources & Development Director, Minnesota Judicial Branch, St. Paul, Minnesota MiHa Kapaki: Court Administrator & Probation Director, Grays Harbor District Court, Montesano, Washington Creadell Webb: Chief Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Officer, 1st Judicial District, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Leave a question or comment about the episode at clapodcast@nacmnet.org

For the 30th anniversary of the Melvins' 1993 classic, HOUDINI, we take a detailed look at how the record was made. Buzz Osborne, Mike Dillard and Matt Lukin had formed the Melvins in 1983 when they were teenagers living in Montesano, Washington. Drummer Dale Crover ended up replacing Dillard early on and has remained with the band to this day. When Osborne and Crover decided to move to San Francisco, Lori Black took over on bass, and they began a series of releases with indie label, Boner Records. By the time, they got to their fifth album, they decided to sign to a major label as the Northwest music scene had exploded in popularity and had attracted the attention of the major labels. After they signed with Atlantic Records, they enlisted their old friend, Kurt Cobain, to produce the album. In this episode, Buzz Osborne describes the difficult sessions that took place while making the record. Kurt Cobain was dealing with a heroin addiction at the time and would often not show up for sessions. Osborne talks about making the decision to fire Cobain right in the middle of the sessions. Ultimately, Cobain did have a hand in co-producing six tracks on the album and played guitar and drums on a couple songs. Osborne describes this period when the Melvins had already seen success on indie labels but decided to sign a contract with the major label powerhouse, Atlantic Records. Osborne describes his initial shock when Atlantic didn't interfere with their creative process at all and let them make the record they wanted to make. From Osborne's often nonsensical lyrical approach to the importance of dynamics in heavy music to a rotating cast of bass players to Dale Crover's mastery of tempo and feel to combining classic rock with punk rock attitude to the Melvins belonging on a legendary label, we'll hear the stories of how the record came together.
Daniel, Justin, and producer Andrew discuss the end of the Mariners season, and the Portland Trailblazers' trade of Damian Lillard. Also, after a roundup of local sports, KWOK's Ian Cope joins in to recap Elma's big football win over Hoquiam, and Justin recapped Montesano's dominant win over Shelton. An unusually long list of nominees for Athlete of the Week created a conundrum for the selection of the Spivey AOW this week, but we persevered.

Today's podcast guest is Brian James. I met Brian on a recent trip to the Pacific Northwest where he was performing at the same venue where I was speaking. Immediately I senses his passion as "passerbys" were attracted to his talents and immediately became "stopper-ins." (Enjoy a sample of his music during the intro and exit of this interview) Born and raised on a farm in the small logging community of Montesano, WA, Brian is at home on the stage where his larger than life personality comes out with witty commentary and raw energy. Brian penned songs for several TV, film, and commercial projects and for artists such as Taylor Hicks and Highroad Three. Brian's Music Received a CCMA nomination for Single of the Year. His song "Angel at the Crossroads" was nominated for Gospel Single of the Year. Today Brian continues to write music for several projects and performs regularly as a solo artist with his three piece band and is currently touring the PNW region. His previous band Brian James and the Great Unknown released their album Journey of a Thousand Miles in September of 2019 and won Inside music cast album of the year. We discuss: -Trying to understand how to best speak with people -Why music is a beautiful universal language -When you're sad, you hear the melody, when you're happy you hear the lyrics The excitement of performing: "When you're confident about your ability and once you get to that place, Then all that's left is the enjoyment of it. All that's left is the, the pure, unfiltered excitement that you feel, and you, you want to share that excitement with other people because some people might not see it unless you do." "When I hear 'em say it can't be done, why even try? They define their own limits, but they don't define mine." "Because what I hear when people say, you can't do that, that's impossible. You're incapable of it. What I'm hearing them say is, I can't do that. That's impossible for me. And I can't imagine how you could do that. But if you in your own head can see the vision, you can see the, the, the, the dream in reality, and you can see a path to achieving it."
