Niall's back this week. And he's fast. But he aint in The Fastbacks. Kim from that particular pop group is in to have a chat about Seattle's beloved power pop punkers' past, present and hopefully future. We're on the cusp of the release of the first Fastbacks record in 25 years and ALL of Kim's choices are from that album. We talk Duff, Eddie, lame A&R guys descending on your city, checking out guest lists and much more. There's all the usual stuff you've learned to endure, so buckle in, belt up and get it in your ears.Music this week is courtesy of: 51st State, The Serpent's Nest, The Slackers, Consumed and Night Surf.
Night Shift is King's first short story collection, published in 1978 and compiling a ton of his nudie magazine stories published before he hit fame and fortune. Night Surf is the standout for our guest and that one is more of a chill story about a group of friends hanging out on the beach as a super flu spreads across the world, taking humanity out person by person.

We're trying something new and exciting this week as we launch a series of episodes focusing in on some of the stories from the first collection by Stephen King: NIGHT SHIFT. In a shake-up to our typical formatting, each story is given its own segment AND its own unique collection of hosts. First up is the rats-in-the-basement pulp thriller GRAVEYARD SHIFT (hosted by Nathan and Reed, joined by Matt Murray and Asia Swartzentruber), also featuring a wild trip through the 1990 film adaptation starring (I guess) Brad Dourif. Then, it'll be time to do our laundry, Stephen King style, as Blake Collier, Ian Olson, and Matt Ruff have a close encounter with THE MANGLER, covering both the story and the Tobe Hooper-directed film starring Robert Englund. For the Patrons, there's even a bonus discussion as Reed partners with Andy Whitfield for a surprisingly thoughtful conversation about the stories THE LAWNMOWER MAN and NIGHT SURF. We're packed full with friends and fun this week so clock in, kick back, and enjoy this first installment of discussions on Stephen King's NIGHT SHIFT.1:06 - The Fear of God Corporate OfficesPatron Only Segment: THE LAWNMOWER MAN & NIGHT SURF6:08 - GRAVEYARD SHIFT52:21 - The Break Room53:49 - THE MANGLER1:38:02 - Clocking OutSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Lecturas recomendadas: The Dark Man y Night Surf (1969) de Stephen King.

A superflu nicknamed "Captain Tripps" kills most of the people on Earth. This story tells the tale of a small group of survivors. No, this is not Stephen King's The Stand, but rather "Night Surf", a short story King first wrote a decade before that seminal novel. Listen now to find out how the two stories connect, what other Stephen King connections are found, and if "Night Surf" is a story worth reading as Arnie continues his reviews of all the tales from King's Night Shift anthology.
Nike 6.0 boardshort bar is backing a Cornish fundraising appeal which was set up in memory of 4 year old Joe Way from Newquay. The boardshort bar is open for the next couple of months in the centre of Newquay and has been designed and fitted out by a local company. You can go in and see the latest Nike 6.0 surf tour information, have a free photo both experience which can be downloaded to your facebook page and design your own boardshorts on one of the apple Macs in the store. You’re shorts will ready for you to walk out with while you wait and it’s a great concept, rather than looking through racks of shorts you simple design what you want and away you go. Another great concept is the surf wax game which is a great fun. Its been designed for the store and you pay £2 to pull the leaver watch the wax drop through the 6ft Perspex enclosure hitting pins as it drops down. On the back of each bar of wax are the words “try again” or what prize you have won. For every purchase the full £2 will go to local Newquay based charity “The Joe Way paddle for life” which has raised over £92,000.00 in three years since the Newquay toddler passed away. Joes Dad Matt Way said “This is a great concept and we are really excited about being involved. At the opening party people where getting addicted to it, we are sure its going to be a great hit for adults and kids whilst raising money that will go back into the local community”. If you’re in Newquay and you want to have some fun or need to buy some wax then check out the Nike 6.0 store in Bank Street. Link to Nike 6.0 FB group http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/Nike6SurfUK
Alan met up with Night Surf in the complex at Starkville, where the riffs, beats, and jams of Night Surf come to life. The story of Night Surf begins with the musical influences and how Jamie, Matt, and Vince would meet. Earlier bands, prog rock, the local scene, and creating their own studio (Gloomy Room) and practice space are what makes Night Surf so appealing. Night Surf preserves the grit and rawness of where their music comes from with their recordings. Songs for the show are "Cover My Eyes" and "Skeletons".
