After an eye-catching performance in the teen coming-of-age epic The Outsiders (1983), ex-child rodeo star C. Thomas Howell was one a promising young actor in the mid-1980s.When Tommy isn't acting, you'll more than likely find Howell out on the ranch with his horses, Trick and Wesley.  As an accomplished team-roper, you'll see that his passion for rodeo runs deep as he's been competing since he was four-years old!   Tommy also enjoys a good game of golf, playing his guitar and writing songs and spending as much time as possible on the ranch and being with his family. Christopher Thomas Howell was born in Los Angeles to Candice (Webb) and Chris Howell (a professional bull rider turned stuntman). He started working in the film industry at the age of seven. In 1981, he was cast as Tyler in Steven Spielberg's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982). Shortly thereafter, he nabbed the lead in Francis Ford Coppola's classic The Outsiders (1983). Earmarked as an up-and-coming actor, his career soon skyrocketed with roles in films including the comedy Grandview, U.S.A. (1984), alongside Jamie Lee Curtis, and the violent Cold War invasion drama Red Dawn (1984). His career was not helped by the controversial racial comedy Soul Man (1986), which was not well-received. However, he did meet and fall in love with his co-star from that movie, Rae Dawn Chong, whom he later married. He has notched up in excess of 90 feature film appearances. including starring roles in Side Out (1990), Gettysburg (1993), Baby Face Nelson (1996), Fatal Affair (1998), Asylum Days (2001) and Hoboken Hollow (2006).He played unpredictable Officer Bill "Dewey" Dudek in the TNT drama series Southland (2009) and as the sadistic serial killer "The Reaper" on CBS's Criminal Minds (2005). More recent television appearances include The Glades (2010) (A&E) and Torchwood (2006) (Starz Channel). He appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) (Sony). A budding film director, he has directed a number of films, including The Big Fall (1997), Pure Danger (1996), The Land That Time Forgot (2009), and The Day the Earth Stopped (2008).

Welcome to the latest Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast. On this episode, I'm chatting composer Matthew Janszen.Matthew began performing piano at the age of 5, but, as is somewhat appropriate for us, he is a bit of geek, and has always been fascinated with the correlation between math and music. This led him to a degree in Acoustical Engineering from Purdue University in Indiana, before receiving a scholarship to the Henry Mancini Institute in Los Angeles and later the BMI Pete Carpenter Fellowship to study with composer Mike Post. He also studied at the ASCAP Film and TV Workshop with Richard Bellis and was awarded the Harold Arlen Film and TV Award.Since 2007, Matthew has worked on a string of movies and tv shows for people such as Lifetime, SYFY and Hallmark, working in both animation and live-action. He's also provided additional music for shows such as 'Law and Order: SVU', 'Be Cool Scooby-Doo', and our very own 'Line Of Duty'.His latest work saw him score the Netflix film 'Fatal Affair' starring Omar Epps and Nia Long, which is something of a reverse 'Fatal Attraction', as brief encounter takes a dangerous turn when Ellie (Long) discovers her old friend David (Epps) is more unstable than she realized. He also scores animated series such as Tony Hale's 'Archibald's Next Big Thing' also for Netflix, 'ThunderCats Roar' for Cartoon Network, and upcoming HBO Max animated series, 'Aquaman: King of Atlantis'.In the interview, we talk about his route into the industry, and touch on all the current shows Matthew is scoring, along with chatting about his work on the multitude of Christmas movies (there are a lot!). Plus we chat about his work with other composers, and his love of 'Star Trek'If you'd like to hear more behind the scenes interviews, don't forget to rate and subscribe to where ever you get your podcasts by searching for "Geektown Radio".  Jill is getting close to her due date!  So baby project galore!(Link to podcast host/stream here.)Note: Project and pattern links are to Ravelry pages. What I've Finished:Jill completed the Compass crochet blanket by Buttonnose Crochet.  Her Rav page here.  She used Lion Brand Mandala in the Pixie colorway.  She used exactly two skeins.  She finished the Garter Earflap Hat from Purl Soho in the baby size, using Gnarled Paw Proper DK in Mexican Blue-Winged Butterfly.  Her Rav page here.  For her final spin for Tour de Fleece, she chain-plied the Greenwood Fiberworks Merino Superfine in the "Camo" OOAK colorway.  She ended up with about 379 yards of a fingering (not worsted like I said in the episode) 3-ply.  The Rav page for the yarn here.  She also made the Fingering Entrechat by Lisa Chemery (Frogginette Knits) out of Spun Right Round SW Sock in Combat boots & Baby doll dresses colorway. My Current Fix:Jill's working on the matching Fingering Entrechat Bonnet using the same Spun Right Round yarn, in the 0-3months size.  She's also making a Baby Yoda for Babies cardigan by Arianna Soloway for a friend out of Berroco Vintage in a taupe colorway doubled, and Craftsmart Value Economique in the sage colorway, also doubled for the hood.  Her Rav page here.  She first tried to use Knit Picks Chroma and Cloudborn Worsted held together for the hood.  She also did a little work on her Fox Paws by Xandy Peters. What I'm Jonesing For:Jill still has some plans for additional baby crafting.  She wants to sew burp cloths, breastfeeding nipple pads, and knit up some baby socks.  She is going to use the Embroidered Birds pattern from Arne & Carlos bird book in Knit Picks Palette for a baby mobile.  Jill wants to make the Rio Calina Cowl by Cat Bordhi.  Cat made the announcement about upcoming death on her blog.  The KAL hashtag is #4catbordhi.  Jill kind of wants to make the cowl out of purple and to make it as part of the emPower People project.  She's into the one-skein Amoretto shawl by Nadia Cretin-Lechenne.  She also bought the Pink Velvet pullover by Andrea Mowry as part of her birthday sale.  Re-Ups:Jill bought some Romney from Goodie Supply Co. for the Greater Los Angeles Spinning Guild Spin-a-long in the Safer at Home colorway, and matching Safer at Home Tonal 5 (a mint color).  Jill also received the Tin Roof pattern by Yamagara from Melinda/Yarnderwoman.Uppers, Downers and Miscellaneous Links:Palm Springs (2020) on HuluUncut Gems (2019) on NetflixFatal Affair (2020) on NetflixJeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich on NetflixThe Last Dance - ESPN docuseries on NetflixMarianne & Leonard: Words of Love (2019) on Amazon by Nick BroomfieldAlone - Artic Season 6Medical Police

Marie Force, New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of more than 40 contemporary romance novels was recently in Toronto and spent an evening with Kobo, Harlequin and an intimate group of lucky fans to celebrate Marie. Mark Lefebvre, Director of Kobo Writing Life, interviewed Marie in front of the group. In the conversation, Mark and Marie discuss: How Gansett Island, a fictional island is based on Marie's favourite real island, Block Island, is a spot that Marie goes to regularly The next Gansett Island book (Celebration After Dark - coming December 1st) which will feature Big Mack and Linda The READER WEEKEND summer retreat that Marie runs for her fans, (limited to 300 people) which is co-ordinated and plann by Julie, Marie's Executive Assistant How Marie has been with a Harlequin imprint (Carina Press) since 2010 when Fatal Affair was launched and the recent deal for books 10 through 13 which is, so far, the biggest deal of her career A reveal that Sam is not going to get pregnant any time soon in the Fatal series (because of how significantly that might change everything in the series) How new ideas are constantly flowing through Marie's mind and the amount of time she ends up spending thinking about fictional people in her life The six people that Marie employs full time The fact that Gansett Island is Marie's favourite series and how Sam from the Fatal series is her favourite character to write. The manner by which Marie embraces both traditional publishing and self-publishing and how she enjoys the collaboration of working with publishers How self-publishing allows her to do things such as bring out three books in three weeks (something that is a rare feat when it comes to traditional publishing) The reality of the punishing writing schedule (writing 8 or 9 books in a year) that Marie keeps in order to meet the demands of the publishing that she does How the first books from the Fatal series sat on the shelf for a full year before Carina Press came along, wanting to do something different about the way that romance was presented to readers   Marie also answers questions from her fans about: If Skip might ever recover from his paralysis Whether or not she will write until Scotty becomes an adult Her most memorable fan interaction Whether or not fans will see more of Shelby and Avery The hardest part of writing romance The best ways to keep informed about Marie's new works and the new Marie Force app that is available to keep fans informed and connected Whether or not she plots out books ahead of time Where she writes most often and whether or not she writes longhand or via a computer If Doctor Harry Flynn might ever have a love interest Her influences for writing   After the interview, Mark goes over a few tips for those about to embark upon NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), conjuring up a few tips derived from articles on the Kobo Writing Life blog by Kevin J. Anderson and Chris Mandeville.
