"Please don't lick your keyboard." It's not sanitary, but it's also not a phrase that would have been heard by the people swinging a nine-pound hammer while building the railroad or coal mining would hear either. In this episode, Brian dives deep into all things "Nine-Pound Hammer" as we drink a nine-pound porter from Georgetown Brewing Co.
The Ledge is so proud to be able to present to you the premiere of four tracks from the upcoming record by Miss Georgia Peach. “Aloha From Kentucky”, set for release on March 18 on Rum Bar Records, is a fabulous combo of twang and raunch from the Short Fuses/Beebee Gallini veteran. Produced by Brian Pulito & Travis Ramin, and with musical backing from members of Nashville Pussy and Nine Pound Hammer, this is going to be one record every one should check out. Besides these great tunes by Miss Georgia Peach, the rest of the show consists of primarily double shots of records I’ve been listening to in my spare time. There’s some archival rarities from David Bowie, The Heartbreakers, and Lou Reed, some live recordings by The Jesus And Mary Chain, X, Wilco, and King Gizzard, along with a little tribute to the late Rachel Nagy of The Detroit Cobras. I would love it if every listener bought at least one record I played on either of these shows. These great artists deserve to be compensated for their hard work, and every purchase surely helps not only pay their bills but fund their next set of wonderful songs. And if […]

This nine pound hammer, oh it's a little too heavy.
We lost a great musician on Christmas Day when Tony Rice passed at the age of 69. His friend Ricky Skaggs described Tony as “the single most influential acoustic guitar player in the last 50 years.” This week’s show, we’ll pay tribute by sharing some great recordings featuring Tony, as well as some selections from players who were inspired by him. We'll hear Bryan Sutton, Molly Tuttle and David Grier … and we’ll also hear some players who inspired Tony, including Doc Watson, Clarence White and Maybelle Carter. Episode 294: I'm Drinking 2020 Goodbye This week Host Dave Bledsoe looks back at what he's done to his body and soul this long and painful year and decides to get drunk. (Again.) On the show this week we look at everything that happened in 2020 and what Dave drank to get through it. (If you are looking for deep insights on the year, this ain't it.) Along the way we learn about Chicago's cute little prank it likes to pull visitors by making them drink battery acid with a sprig of catnip in it. Then we go around the world in a dozen or so liquors so powerful, so disgusting, so terrible that only a desperate alcoholic or a man with literally nothing left to lose would drink them. (Fortunately for us, Dave Bledsoe is both!) From India to Ireland, from Italy to China Dave explains how as things got worse in 2020, the levels he stooped to in the liquor cabinet went lower and lower. (Honestly we do NOT know how he is still alive!) Then we wrap up with simply the most vile concoction to ever be bottled and sold to teenagers who didn't know any better! (Poor, simple fools!) Our Sponsor this week is Fast Eddie's Quick Vax for when you are right and don't want to wait your turn. We open the show with Jim Gaffigan getting us pumped for 2020 and close with Nine Pound Hammer coping with loss. Show Notes Episode 217: “Drinking the Bastards Goodbye” This week Host Dave Bledsoe is sitting on a barstool, acting like a dern fool that is what he is doing today. (And every day really.) On the show this week, sheer righteous rage brings us back to the embers of the Great American Shitter Fire and how some DC media types are throwing going away soirees for the Mouth of Sauron.(Why do you think we never see her smile?) We dive into a Columbia Journalism Review account of Sarah Huckabee Sanders' going away “Not a Party” with the White House Press Corp, who will apparently drink with anyone. (Knowing some journalists, this is not untrue.) We dissect the piece in depth and ask some questions of the reporters at the “drinks event” that we believe On the Media would ask. (If Bob Garfield had a couple of stiff drinks and decided it was time to leave by going out in a blaze of glory.) We make some cutting observations about the kind of people willing to knock back overpriced cocktails in a swanky DC Steakhouse with the kind of people who put kids in Concentration Camps. (You know, the sort of people that would do a puff piece on Eva Braun decorating the Eagle's Nest!) Finally, we point out that their fucking JOB is to NOT be friends with the devil. Our Sponsor this week is Drinking Buddy, you don't HAVE to drink alone. We start the show with some RESPECTABLE barflies and close with Nine Pound Hammer drinking their baby goodbye.
