Host: Jason Rigby   Guest: Coby Michael, Occult Herbalist and Author of The Poison Path Grimoire   Buy the Book: Get The Poison Path Grimoire and The Poison Path Herbal in the show notes below!   Episode Overview   In this riveting episode of Higher Density Living, host Jason Rigby sits down with occult herbalist Coby Michael to explore the forbidden and transformative world of the Poison Path Grimoire. Dive into the mysteries of dark herbalism, where plants like Belladonna, Datura, and Foxglove serve as spiritual allies, shattering egos, reflecting shadows, and unlocking ancient wisdom. Coby reveals how poison isn't just a physical threat—it's a rebellious mirror to our deepest fears, offering a path to empowerment and rebirth. From plant spirit communication to the psychedelic renaissance, this episode is a must-listen for anyone seeking authentic spiritual growth beyond the "Frosted Flakes" sugar-coated norm.   Key Topics Covered The Poison Path as a Mirror: How poison plants reflect hidden aspects of the self (01:22) Shadow Work with Poison Plants: Unveiling the seductive and shameful facets of the shadow (03:48) Ego Death vs. Physical Death: Safely navigating nightshades for alchemical transformation (06:51) Poison as Rebellion: The Promethean archetype and modern defiance of societal norms (10:52) Balancing Balm and Bane: Maintaining equilibrium on the crooked path (14:43) Plant Spirit Communication (Phytonosis): How Belladonna and Foxglove speak through images and feelings (18:21) The Otherness of Poison: Reconciling the occult with everyday life (20:57) Veneficium and Love Potions: Lessons on love, self-love, and boundaries from Venusian plants (25:22) Belladonna's Warrior Spirit: Tapping into martial energy for personal and systemic battles (33:32) Yew Tree Self-Sacrifice: Odin's ritual and shedding the self for growth (36:14) Poison Path vs. Psychedelic Renaissance: A grounded alternative to Ayahuasca tourism (43:30) Animism and Plant Consciousness: Reshaping our bond with the natural world (52:18) Legacy of the Poison Path: Empowerment and rethinking poison over the next decade (53:59)   Timestamps & Detailed Breakdown   00:01 - Introduction: Welcome to the Wild World of the Poison Path Jason introduces Coby Michael's Poison Path Grimoire, teasing the power of plants like Belladonna and Datura to "kill your ego" and "set you free." Keywords: Poison Path, dark herbalism, spiritual allies, ego death.   00:36 - Coby Michael Joins the Show Coby expresses excitement for the discussion, setting the stage for a deep dive into occult herbalism.   01:22 - The Poison Path as a Mirror Coby explains how "poison" is a broad, misunderstood term, shaped by human perceptions over centuries. Poison plants reflect our shadow selves—parts we fear or deny. Key Quote: "It all comes down to dosage, circumstances, and how these plants are employed." SEO Keywords: shadow self, poison plants, occult herbalism.   03:48 - Personal Story: Shadow Work with Poison Plants Coby shares how Saturn-ruled plants (e.g., nightshades) require slow, gradual work, drawing out empowering and shameful shadow aspects. Example: Feeling drawn to their "sinister, badass" vibe revealed his own disempowerment. Takeaway: Poison plants seduce you, then force reflection. Keywords: shadow work, Saturn plants, personal transformation.   06:51 - From Physical Death to Ego Death Coby emphasizes safety: physical death is possible, but the goal is ego death—an alchemical detachment from unhelpful self-aspects. Practical Tips: Start with meditation, topical oils, or flower essences, not ingestion. Keywords: ego death, nightshades, safe plant practices.   08:53 - The Rebirth Experience Rebirth "sucks"—it's raw, stripping away cycles like vampiric relationships, leaving you to relearn life. Worth It? Yes, for genuine transformation. Key Quote: "You're a fresh little entity, navigating the world in a brand new way." Keywords: rebirth, transformation, shadow healing.   10:52 - Poison as Rebellion Coby ties poison to the Promethean archetype—stealing forbidden knowledge against patriarchal oppression. Modern Relevance: A rebellion against submissive societal norms. Keywords: Promethean archetype, poison rebellion, transgressive power.   14:43 - Balancing Balm and Bane on the Crooked Path Poison plants heal as much as they harm; balance them with tonic herbs like rose or chamomile. Challenge: Avoiding depression or malaise from lingering in darkness too long. Personal Insight: Coby's fiery natal chart led to physical depletion without self-care. Keywords: crooked path, balance, tonic herbs.   18:21 - Plant Spirit Communication (Phytonosis) Phytonosis = plant-derived knowledge via images, emotions, or voices (e.g., Belladonna's persona). How-To: Meditate with plants, study their lore, notice recurring thoughts. Keywords: phytonosis, plant spirits, spiritual communication.   20:57 - The Otherness of Poison Poison historically "others" groups (e.g., Jews, women, witches), yet grounds us in the earthly realm. Contrast: Unlike celestial psychedelics, poison plants keep you rooted. Keywords: otherness, poison history, grounding spirituality.   25:22 - Veneficium: Love Potions and Poison Venusian plants blur love and harm (e.g., ancient aphrodisiacs doubling as poisons). Lesson: Self-love trumps all; set boundaries without fear. Keywords: veneficium, love potions, self-love.   31:32 - Practical Tip for Beginners: Foxglove For relationship struggles, Foxglove offers gentle heart healing. How: Use as a flower essence or meditate with its glyph (The Poison Path Herbal). Keywords: foxglove, heart healing, beginner plant practice.   33:32 - Belladonna's Valkyrie Spirit Beyond seduction, Belladonna embodies a feral, martial energy for fighting adversity. Application: Dismantle outdated societal structures. Keywords: Belladonna, warrior spirit, systemic injustice.   36:14 - Yew Tree Self-Sacrifice Inspired by Odin's sacrifice, shed unserving life aspects (e.g., Coby's marriage, pets). Catalyst: A Belladonna-Henbane ceremony sparked his 10-year transformation. Keywords: Yew tree, self-sacrifice, shamanic death.   43:30 - Poison Path vs. Psychedelic Renaissance The psychedelic boom (e.g., Ayahuasca tourism) contrasts with the grounded Poison Path. Contribution: Offers subtle, chthonic alternatives to celestial blasts. Keywords: psychedelic renaissance, Ayahuasca, chthonic plants.   52:18 - Animism and Plant Consciousness Plants have undeniable consciousness, reshaping Coby's empathy for nature. To Skeptics: Science backs it—skepticism is outdated. Keywords: animism, plant consciousness, non-human intelligence.   53:59 - Legacy and Future of the Poison Path Legacy: Empowerment to rethink poison and integrate it personally. Future: A third book, then amplifying collective voices over the next decade. Keywords: Poison Path legacy, empowerment, future evolution.   57:36 - Closing Thoughts & Resources Jason reflects: The Poison Path confronts fear, enabling love. Coby's Website: thepoisonersapothecary.com Social: @PoisonersApothecary on Instagram Keywords: fear vs. love, Coby Michael resources.   Key Takeaways Poison Reflects the Shadow: Plants like Belladonna mirror hidden fears and strengths, pushing you toward integration. Ego Death is the Goal: Safely detach from ego, not destroy it, using gradual practices. Rebellion Fuels Transformation: Poison defies taboos, turning personal poisons into power. Balance is Essential: Pair dark plants with light tonics to avoid burnout. Plants Speak: Through phytonosis, they guide us with subtle wisdom. Grounded Alternative: Unlike the psychedelic hype, the Poison Path roots you in reality.   Resources Mentioned Books: [The Poison Path Grimoire]– Coby's latest work on dark herbalism. Greetings to the cowboys, the snakes, and the kin among us. Tonight we have a real southern tale to tell. Somewhere out past the cat's whiskers and royal palm, where the air hangs heavy with history, there's a sound—low, humming, ancient. Maybe it's a siren calling from a forgotten Southern shore, or the echo of Datura blooming under an October moon. Or maybe—just maybe—it's the land calling back.Tonight, we're following that sound through Tori Amos' most Southern-infused songs—the ones laced with heat, history, and a little bit of blood memory. Now, let's put our alligator boots in the dirt. Yes, Tori was born in North Carolina, but she grew up in Maryland—Southern enough if you're feeling generous, but let's be honest, it's not exactly Dixie. Still, this lizard woman knows the South. The places where time bends a little differently. Her Cherokee blood runs deep, and her family's history is carved into the land like a story waiting to be sung. And yes, the song lines, they do indeed sing.Whether she's summoning the turquoise serpents, calling out to the Merman in a rising tide, we're mapping out a Tori playlist where the South isn't just a place—it's a feeling. And if we get lost along the way, well… we'll just drive all night until we find our way back.So let's go to her Southern land of gold. Just go. Tonight we are Introverted but willing to mess with a southern girl.Playlists:JVKKMM

Buy this book and support the podcast! This guy walks into a bar…Nick Kolakowski has been in the writing business for a long time, and his come up has been sort of split between horror and crime. He's got impressive credentials in horror and crime anthologies and magazines, as well as his own published works. The book of the hour, however, is solidly, fantastically a crime book. Detective, to be more specific. So I got to chat with Nick about the scene, working with Datura as a publisher, and of course, a former Hollywood fixer turned failed comedian, who decides to find redemption as a private dick. To mixed results. Nick's life experience as a Hollywood reporter adds delightful cynicism and a layer of grime to the depiction of celebrities in the book, and a plucked from the headlines plot line about remains found in barrels in drying up lakes pushes us north into California wine country where things get hot (because of wild fires) and heavy (because of murders.)I thought this book was great, and I'm obsessed with the concept for another book in this little universe, so you all know what to do. Go buy a billion copies, leave reviews, and make this book a success so we get more in the future! For those who like YouTube-ing: This is a public episode. Interview by Kris PetersBritish rock outfit Boston Manor are gearing up for the release of their new album, Sundiver, which will hit the airwaves on September 6.Celebrating new beginnings, second chances and rebirth, Sundiver is the next chapter of a story that began with the 2022 album Datura, but, unlike the bleaker undertones of that record, Sundiver sees things through more rose-coloured glasses. The culmination of two years work and four years of planning, Boston Manor always knew going into the pandemic that their next record would be a double album released in two parts: the first, a shadowy-noir electronic record conceptually set over one night (Datura) and a second sprawling rock record that documents the following day (Sundiver). The fact that the album has already spawned four successful singles is a fair indication of the quality of the material, with Container, Sliding Doors, Heat Me Up and Horses In A Dream all providing a glimpse into the musical majesty Boston Manor have created.HEAVY sat down with frontman Henry Cox to find out more."We've been working on this record for four years, really," he measured. "It's crazy to think about, so it's pretty surreal to have it coming out there in the world. I'm excited to hear what people think of it."We ask if he is feeling anxious, nervous or keen to get it out there with the release so close after so much work."Kind of a mix of all three, to be honest with you," he smiled. "It's weird having sat on a record for so long. I've not done that before. Usually six months or whatever you get into the whole rollout thing, but with this one we've had an early version of the mixes for almost a year now, so we've been sitting with it for a minute. I'm happy to say that we're not bored of it yet. We really enjoy listening to this record. I am quite keen to just get it out there. We just started playing some of the songs of the record live which is really refreshing and super fun. It's obviously part of a double album concept with our previous record, so we put a lot into that, so I'm keen to just let people hear it.'Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

This week on Black Hoodie Alchemy we're celebrating for our hundredth episode! But aside from some sincere thank yous and some extra music, this is mostly another research driven episode that you've come to expect -- and it's one that we're very excited to get into for this hundredth go-round. For a little more celebration and absurdist humor, don't forget to check out last episode, 99.999! For this episode, we're getting into the plant known as datura stramonium AKA jimson weed AKA devil's trumpets AKA hell's bells (among many other names) and the strange and vast comparative religious history that is carries with it. Perhaps used sacramentally in the ancient world even more than cannabis and mushrooms, THIS IS NOT A PLANT THAT YOU SHOULD TRY TO CONSUME. Now, there are some fascinating caveats to that, but you need to understand right out the gate that you should not try to fuck with this plant at all. 99% of any trip reports you read will show you that this stuff is pure nightmare fuel every time. Even if you think you can handle it -- that you're experienced and spiritual enough to handle it -- you still won't be able to. Everyone from the wreckless partier, to the studied psychonaut, to the devout spiritualist has tried this plant and many of them have ended up in the hospital. But still, this plant was used as a powerful medicine throughout history all over the world quite literally, and even has a surprising impact on the history of the Voodoo Zombie! All this and more this week -- we hope you dig it, and we hope you stay safe out there! Thanks for tuning into this episode and all the others, we appreciate you sincerely. Welcome to Mysteries to Die For and this Toe Tag.I am TG Wolff and am here with Jack, my piano player and producer. This is normally a podcast where we combine storytelling with original music to put you at the heart of mystery. Today is a bonus episode we call a Toe Tag. It is the first chapter from a fresh release in the mystery, crime, and thriller genre.Today's featured release is The Taste of Datura. TG Wolff ReviewThe Taste of Datura is an adventure. Nick Terenzi purchased an intricate brass bracelet some time ago in Rome. He tried to sell it and when he couldn't, we went to the black market. Now, the Egyptians, the Turks, a Spanish professor, the UN, and a sexy flourist all want what Nick has. Nick doesn't know what's special about the bracelet, only that it's his key to staying alive.Bottom line: The Taste of Datura is for you if you like adventures building off mythology with a touch of paranormal.Strengths of the story. The strength of the story is the composition itself. The Taste of Datura is listed on Amazon in the fiction / literature category. This fits as Datura is a little bit of everything. There is a mystery surrounding the bracelet – what makes it special, why major players want it. There is adventure as Nick loses the bracelet, fights to get it back, and transports it to Cairo. There is mythology in the roots of the bracelet, drawing in both Greek and Roman stories. There is thrill as the few people Nick trusts start dying and Nick knows he's next. There is paranormal when Nick meets Laura, a medium whose visions show her snippets of the bracelet's turbulent past. This story gives readers a lot to unpack.Nick is a likeable lead. He isn't a professional and doesn't have “people” or resources. He has a decent amount of common sense, unless he's around one particular beautiful woman, which is pretty funny.Laura is interesting in her own right. Her role isn't traditional. She isn't a sidekick or a partner, she isn't a love interest. The best description may be a companion storyteller as she has takes the lead in her sections in a manner similar to a romance (but without the romance). She helps us as readers get a sense of the history. She does passout a lot and her accounts to Nick are less detailed than we get with the vision, giving us a clearer vision (pun!) than Nick. The pacing of the story is good for keeping the reader's attention. The author uses a few techniques including, as you heard, starting the story first with the past, then the near future, before settling into the present. I appreciated the epilogue which finished telling the 1890 history, giving us a satisfying end with information that Nick will never have. The Napoli setting was affectionately written by someone who loves the area. The detail in the location, the food and drink, and the people reflect someone who has spent time there, not just researched on GoogleEarth. Where the story fell short of ideal: The logic of the story holds up. In an adventure story, logic isn't as core as in a mystery, it's more about the hunt or the chase. Nick is more of a reactive hero than a driving force, responding to the actions of the various bad guys, again, common with adventures. Nick's actions are true to character. There is only one character whose actions, once the fully scope is revealed, doesn't hold true. Interestingly, those around this character comment something like “I don't know why they did that.” It wasn't bad as much as weak. The editing on this could have been sharper. There were little things that jumped out as I was reading, such as Nick grabbing his left torso and one of my kindle pages having sixteen sentences beginning with the word “He.” These weren't big detractors of an overall fun story but something readers are likely to notice. #52 - Join us for an amazing conversation with Herbal Drama Queens Kaz & Fi of The Seed SistAs on the magic and medicine of power plants and reintegrating the ancient tradition of working with witching herbs in ritual and modern herbalism. In this episode, The Seed SistAs share about their experience of working in deep partnership with the poison plants and reclaiming the word witch. They offer profound wisdom on how to respectfully work with witching herbs such as Henbane, Datura, and Belladonna, and how they help connect people with Nature and bridge the gap between scientific understanding and the magical realms of herbalism. They also share about how the witching herbs and power plants are associated with the energy and time of Samhain. Kaz & Fi are The Seed SistAs, sensory herbalists who have a passion for educating others about plant medicine. Their mission: to connect people with their local plants promoting empowerment, autonomy, freedom and diversity in health care. Medically trained herbalists with a love and interest in the so-called witching herbs of old, they have worked and played together for many moons exploring all that the plants have to share. They combine their clinical experience with ritual, art and creativity to teach herbal medicine in a unique, inspiring and accessible style, led by the plants themselves. The Seed SistAs are also authors of the books the Sensory Herbal Handbook and Poison Prescriptions - power plant magic, medicine and ritual, available at https://seedsistas.co.uk/books/You can find the Seed SistAs at: https://seedsistas.co.uk/On instagram: https://www.instagram.com/seed_sistas/On facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SeedSistAs/On Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@SEEDSISTASFor more info visit Sara's website at: https://www.multidimensionalnature.com/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/multidimensional.nature/facebook: https://www.facebook.com/saraartemisia.ms/facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/plantspiritherbalismYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@saraartemisiaLearn how to communicate with plant consciousness in the free workshop on How to Learn Plant Language: https://www.learnplantlanguage.com/

#46 - Join us for an amazing conversation with Clinical Herbalist & Teacher Sam Coffman on how incorporating multiple paradigms in clinical herbalism can support an effective and truly integrative approach to health. In this episode, Sam shares first-hand experiences on working with the healing power of herbs in Echinacea, Comfrey, Horsetail, Prickly Pear, and others in wilderness medicine, wilderness first aid situations, and complex clinical cases. He also offers deep wisdom on how his journey in many different realms of life including clinical herbalism, martial arts, the Special Forces, linguistics, philosophy, music, western medicine, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has shaped his relationship with the Earth. Sam Coffman (MSAOM, RH[AHG]) began his medical education in the Army as a Special Forces Medic (aka Green Beret medic) in 1989. Over the years that followed, he looked toward herbalism as a way to provide sustainable health care in remote and post-disaster regions for chronic, acute and physical trauma care. Over the following three decades, Sam's primary goal has become the creation of an integrative medical model that embraces vitalistic, TCM and western medical approaches to herbalism into a collaboration with western orthodox models of diagnosis and treatment for acute and chronic health care conditions. Sam has taught herbalism for over 30 years and has worked as a clinical herbalist for over 15 years. He founded and runs Herbal Medics Academy (AKA The Human Path), which offers four primary programs - Clinical Herbalism, Austere Medicine, Advanced Medicine Making, and Family Herbalism. Tropane Alkaloids Atropine (dl-hyoscyamine) Hyoscyamine Scopolamine (d-hyoscine) Solanine Alkaloids are naturally occurring compounds that contain at least one nitrogen atom. The name alkaloid comes from the basic (high pH) nature of many members of the group, alkaline-like. Tropane alkaloids all have a tropane ring system but despite this structural similarity, the pharmacological effects of these compounds differ significantly. In addition to the alkaloids mentioned in this episode, cocaine is also an alkaloid that is widely used. Cocaine, Hyoscyamine, and Scopolamine are able to pass the blood-brain barrier and cause hallucinations and other psychoactive effects. Cocaine is extracted from Coca plants that are grown in South America. Hyoscyamine and Scopolamine are extracted from a few different Solanaceae plants including Duboisia plants that are grown on large plantations in Australia and Datura plants that are grown around the world. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/andrea9559/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/andrea9559/support
