"Food is how some people show love," said author Kate Lord Brown when talking about her latest novel The Golden Hour. This Shine Radio Recipe podcast is an excuse to share the work of a former Petersfield resident and writer on how her passion for food are woven through the pages of her work. One of the character's Raif, shows love through his cooking by providing food, service and loyalty to the ones he loves. Kate shares one of her favourite lebanese' recipe's, Baba ganoush, a dip that consists of finely chopped roasted aubergine, olive oil, lemon juice, various seasonings, and tahini with Noni Needs.The novel set in Cairo and Beirut on dual timelines follows the story of archaeologist Lucie Fitzgerald as she goes home to be by her dying mother's side. He mother Polly has one last story to tell her daughter about her close female friendship with her godmother Juno. A book full of forbidden passion, romance, love, secrets and lies that embraces all the senses with a backdrop of faraway shores. As archaeologists both Polly and Juno share an obsession to find the Egyption tomb of the Warrior Queen - Nefertiti. A steam engine popular with enthusiasts pulled-up at the platform in Petersfield on Saturday. British Railways Standard Class 7 engine 70000 Britannia is a preserved steam locomotive. It was pulling a train of carriages through our town on a tour operated by the luxury leisure company Steam Dreams. The train stopped to pick-up passengers in Petersfield for a Christmas shopping day trip to Bath. Shine Radio's Gareth Boyes, Noni Needs, Harrison RB and young volunteer Orien met the train, its fans and the people who operate it on Petersfield platform 2. Six year Ninja is probably the best known proponent of "barkour" (parkour for dogs) in the world. Owner and handler Dominik Arend used to teach parkour to children in his native Germany, but Ninja and he now work professionally together. Parkour, also known as free-running or l'art du déplacement (art of movement) originated in France and is a discipline, which demands both athleticism and artistic expression. The urban environment is viewed as an obstacle course to be engaged with in one's own individual, often gymnastic style. Dominik is eloquent and fascinating on the activity that has turned into a career for them both and how their relationship has developed over their shared working life, which clearly suits them.  Barkour's popularity is such, that Ninja and Dominik have almost half a million followers on Instagram and recently found themselves performing at Goodwoof, on the Goodwood Estate in Sussex. Meet talented youngster, Police Dog Meika, of the London Metropolitan Police's Dog Section.  A week shy of her second birthday, Springer spaniel Meika is already trained in detection work across several disciplines, including drugs, firearms and cash detection.  Police Constable Emma Robling explains some of the training and demands on Meika, as well as what a working day looks like. She also gives some context - the Met has its own breeding scheme and lays claim to the UK's biggest urban police dog section, with a dizzying variety of specialist search disciplines. Noni Needs from Liss has won the prestigious Bob Norris NUJ Award for Achievement in journalism from Solent NUJ. She has graduated from an intensive 28-week NCTJ (level 5) diploma in Journalism at City of Portsmouth College. Noni talks to Kate Fairweather about the course, starting a new career and life as a mature student. One of her first assignments was to interview Penny Mordaunt, Portsmouth North MP and Leader of the House of Commons. She has also sourced and written articles for The News, Portsmouth and the Petersfield Post.  As a single parent, Noni was able to support herself through the course thanks to a bursary from the National NCTJ Journalism Diversity Fund.  Noni is an award-winning podcaster. This programme is dedicated to the memory of Maddy Lawrence. Maddy lived in Sheet, attended Churcher's College and then the University of West England in Bristol. She lost her life in March 2022, aged just 20. Maddy sustained an injury playing rugby for her university team. Despite a courageous fight in hospital, Maddy died of sepsis two weeks later. Her parents established the Maddy's Mark charity in her memory.Eight months on, Shine Radio's Noni Needs hears from some of those who knew her best. Antony Penrose is the son of Lee Miller and Roland Penrose, two surrealists that lived in Sussex. Farleys Farm and Gallery is home to these two Surrealists. Miller's, son Antony became the custodian of her 60,000 strong photographic legacy by accident when his wife was looking for a baby picture of him in the attic.Ahead of a film, staring Kate Winslet as 'Lee', Noni Needs wanted to find out more about the genius of Lee Miller. Following a trail from The Newlands House Gallery, Petworth where Miller is on Exhibition: 'Lee Miller and Picasso' Noni Needs went to meet Antony Penrose at his Sussex home. Lee Miller has a long list of achievements. Here are some: a Vogue model, inventing Solarisation with Man Ray, one of four female photographers on the front lines of World War II.
