Lt. Barry Jackson (Miami Herald) sind es 21 Millionen insgesamt. 1. This is the first year of the post-Drew Brees era for the Saints. Thus, all eyes are on the looming training camp battle between Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston to be the starting QB Week 1 in New Orleans. As of right now, what is your most educated guess as to which of those two will be under center for the Saints September 12 against the Packers? 2. Given the COVID-related salary cap reduction this season, the Saints cap issues were further magnified this year. Moreover, according to OverTheCap.com, the Saints are projected to start the 2022 league year nearly $15 million above the cap, $14.847 million to be exact. This means, they will likely have to get super creative as they try to re-sign their two 2017 first-round picks, Marshon Lattimore and Ryan Ramczyk. Which one of those two do you believe is most likely to re-sign in New Orleans long-term? Can you see the Saints eventually re-signing both? 3. In the 2021 NFL Draft, the Saints used all of their picks in the premium rounds (rounds 1-3) on defense. In the first round, they selected pass-rushing DE Payton Turner out of Houston. Next, in the second round, they selected Ohio State LB Pete Werner, and they traded up 22 spots in the third to select Stanford CB Paulson Adebo. Which of those three rookies do you see making the biggest impact for the Saints this season? 4. In the fourth round, the Saints took another roll of the proverbial QB dice with Ian Book out of Notre Dame. During the pre-draft process, a draft analyst friend of mine who I trust said that Ian Book should switch positions and become a running back. Thus, when the Saints took him, I was wondering if they view him as Taysom Hill's eventual replacement, especially if Hill is a cap casualty after this season. Do the Saints see Ian Book that way? 5. Aside from the Jameis/Taysom competition, what are the biggest Saints training camp position battles to keep an eye on? 6. Before we proceed, I am pleased to announce that we're beginning a very special series of episodes on Women In Sports. This podcast intends to help promote and empower women in all facets of the sports industry as much as possible, from cheerleaders, reporters, agents and managers, to coaches and athletes. And speaking of women in sports, several major glass ceilings have just been smashed in the NFL. In the past month, Kelly Kleine and Catherine Raiche, became the two highest-ranked female scouting executives in NFL history. Would you be surprised if we saw the first ever woman NFL GM some time this decade? 7. In your career on the NFL beat, was there ever a moment where you felt that you were treated unfairly because you're a woman? What should us men do to help create and ensure the safest, most equitable work environment possible for women in sports, or in any other high-profile industry?
Zack Moore, Writer for OverTheCap.com and author of 'Caponomics: Building Super Bowl Champions, joins the show to How the Browns got to this point from 1-31Plus we take a look at the Browns upcoming extension decisions as well as How they will effect team building going forward...
The Minnesota Vikings managed the cap incredibly well this offseason but there are still plenty of questions to be answered. Will Danielle Hunter show up for OTAs or mandatory minicamp without a new contract? What could the Vikings do to keep him happy? Should they trade him if he plans on pulling a Le'Veon Bell? Plus how does Dalvin Cook's contract look one year later? What would happen if Jeff Gladney was suspended for the year for his domestic violence arrest? And what would happen to the Packers' cap situation if they trade Aaron Rodgers?
The guys discussed an article from OverTheCap.com (https://overthecap.com/expected-drafted-player-snaps-over-rookie-years/) where the Vikings had more draft picks than any other team over the last decade and how that philosophy could apply to the Broncos with George Paton here. Zac Stevens from DNVR joined the show.

1. Earlier this week, Benjamin Allbright (Pro Football Network) reported that the Bears are looking at veteran QB options. While Trubisky is still going to get a shot to prove he’s the guy, his leash will be VERY short like Marcus Mariota’s was last season. He also noted that if the Raiders were to trade or release Derek Carr ($21.5M cap hit, $7.9M in dead money), they’d be interested. And another name he mentioned that the Bears are discussing is Andy Dalton. The Bears salary cap issues aside, which one of those two QB’s would be the best get for the Bears and why? 2. In order to get those QB’s, the Bears will likely need to free up more salary cap space. While they did just that yesterday by releasing Taylor Gabriel and Prince Amukamara, that only puts the Bears at an estimated $18M and change under the cap according to OverTheCap.com. Two other such moves that will net them more cap space are Leonard Floyd ($13.222M savings, $0 dead), Akiem Hicks ($8.8M savings, $3M dead). Do you see the Bears releasing one of those two players? 3. Another way they could potentially free up more cap space is with a contract extension for WR Allen Robinson, who is slated to count $15M against the cap this year. How realistic is it that a new contract (with a lower 2020 cap number) will be in place for ARob before the season? 4. The Bears made some coaching changes, particularly on the offensive staff. They fired OC Mark Helfrich and replaced him with former Dolphins and Bengals OC Bill Lazor. What potential upgrades over Helfrich does Lazor bring? 5. Another one of those coaching moves was puzzling to me was the firing of OL coach Harry Hiestand. Hiestand, to me, is a top-five OL coach in football at all levels. What did you feel about Hiestand’s dismissal? 6. What free agents do you see the Bears signing? 7. Bears 7-Round Mock Draft -(43): Julian Okwara -(50): Brycen Hopkins -(145): Devin Duvernay -(176): Antoine Brooks, Jr. -(180): Darryl Williams -(203): Salvon Ahmed -(210): Kindle Vildor

NFL rosters are about to be in major flux, and a big part of that will be which players will find themselves on the wrong side of the salary cap ledger. Today we'll count down 10 skill-position players with the potential to be salary-cap casualties, potentially giving them a big change in scenery and opening up spots for new fantasy producers in 2020. We'll also recap the Wild Card games, talk about new NFL head coaches, and preview the Divisional Round. Guests: Zack Moore of OverTheCap.com and Jim McCormick of ESPN. 1. Week 12 Takeaways Me: -The Los Angeles Rams are in trouble. BIG trouble. Their $112 million “franchise” QB Jared Goff has been exposed as a QB who is only as good as his offensive line is, as evidenced by the decline of that unit and his 0 TD/5 INT, 4 fumble, 58.9 passer rating month of November. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. WHY? First, they’re going to be hamstrung by the salary cap next season. According to OverTheCap.com, they will have over $95 million tied up into four players: Goff, Aaron Donald, Todd Gurley (who is WAY past his prime due to his arthritic knee), and Brandin Cooks…and dead cap charges make it impossible to release any of them. Next, most of their estimated $26 million in cap space will likely have to go toward re-signing Jalen Ramsey, for whom they traded away their 2020 AND 2021 first round picks. Thus, due to the lack of financial capital and high-end draft capital, it’s going to take a miracle of miracles for them to rebuild that OL and help get Jared Goff back on track these next few seasons…and to top it off, their best OL (Andrew Whitworth) is likely retiring after this season. NOBODY should be surprised if the Rams end up in the NFC West cellar as early as next season. Matt: Three top teams did not play well: Patriots, Saints, Packers 2. Truth/Exaggeration -The Giants and Lions should put Saquon Barkley and Matthew Stafford, respectively, on the shelf for the remainder of the 2019 season -The Tennessee Titans biggest offseason priority should be extending Ryan Tannehill -Although Jason Garrett deserves to be fired, Jerry Jones remains the Cowboys biggest problem -The Jaguars should go back to Gardner Minshew at QB to close out the season, especially if Nick Foles continues to lay eggs -Lamar Jackson has now pulled ahead of Russell Wilson in the 2019 NFL MVP race 3. Coaching Carousel: Fire or Retain? -Bengals: Zac Taylor -Giants: Pat Shurmur -Falcons: Dan Quinn -Jaguars: Doug Marrone -Lions: Matt Patricia 4. Game of the Week: 49ers at Ravens -What makes this game so unique (aside from it being a potential Super Bowl preview) is that it’s a battle between an unstoppable force (Lamar Jackson and the Ravens O) against an immovable object (49ers defense). And BOTH sides have players and schemes that can PERFECTLY exploit weaknesses and nullify strengths of the other, don’t they? -Is this arguably the biggest game of Jimmy Garoppolo’s career to date? Like if the Ravens score early and often, this will likely be the game where he MUST prove that he can go toe-to-toe with elite QB’s in a shootout -Key matchups: Fred Warner vs. Lamar Jackson, D.J. Jones vs Ravens backup center -Game picks 5. Game Predictions -Bears at Lions -Bills at Cowboys -Saints at Falcons -Browns at Steelers -Jets at Bengals -Eagles at Dolphins -Titans at Colts -Packers at Giants -Redskins at Panthers -Buccaneers at Jaguars -Rams at Cardinals -Chargers at Broncos -Raiders at Chiefs -Patriots at Texans -Vikings at Seahawks 7. BOLD PREDICTIONS ME: Cole Beasley goes berserk against his former team on Thanksgiving catching 10 passes for 150 yards and 2 TD MATT: Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs combine for 300 yards and 3 TD’s 8. Challenge Flags ME: Texans. Don’t make the same mistake the Cowboys did and scheme creative ways to get DeAndre Hopkins open against Stephon Gilmore MATT: Browns. PROVE you’re not the same old Browns!!

The Paul Brown Podcast - The First International Cleveland Browns Podcast
We continue our series of shows from @JackDuffin looking at the salary cap in the NFL to commemorate a year since Sashi Brown was fired. The third of four shows is a sit down with @ZackMooreNFL, Writer at OverTheCap and author of the fantastic book Caponomics: Building Super Bowl Champions. We discuss how Sashi used the salary cap to rebuild the Browns.
The final 53-man Cleveland Browns roster for the 2018 season will be vastly improved from the roster that began the 2017 season. But it won't end there. On the latest episode of the Takes By The Lake podcast from cleveland.com, we looked big picture at the current and future roster construction of the Browns, before we get into the daily grind of a 16-game season less than a month from now. Host Doug Lesmerises is joined by guest Zack Moore, a writer for OverTheCap.com and author of the recent book, "Caponomics: Building Super Bowl Champions." The topic is where the Browns are, with the most cap space in the NFL at around $52 million. They have young talent that should encourage fans for next year. But they'll need to continue to build to become the playoff team that is the goal and needed result from this multi-year teardown. They have the flexibility to keep adding. Zack and DOug talked about where the Browns are spending money now, how they could use their cap space in the future and whether the current setup should give fans reasons to believe this is all going to work. All rise, and welcome to this sports court of public opinion we call Foul Play-by-Play – the podcast that provides play-by-play and color commentary on foul play in sports on and off the field, pitch, court, and ice. Headlines Headline 1: Dolphins First to Release Potential Penalties for Anthem Protests Since the Miami Dolphins are one of the first NFL teams to report to training camp, they were the first to put police brutality protest penalties in writing, as required by the league. I’m calling them police brutality protests instead of anthem protests because that’s what they are: the players are protesting police brutality against minorities, not the national anthem. Yet the media was quick to dub the protests as anthem protests, which has stuck. If you search Google using the terms “anthem protest” you get 13.6 million hits. Using the search terms “anthem protests” you get almost 1.5 million hits. If you search “police brutality protests” you get just 187,000 hits, so simply assigning a name to these protests The Dolphins stuffed the police brutality protests in with other acts of conduct deemed “detrimental to the club” punishable by up to four-game suspensions, but they reportedly have no intent of suspending players four games for protesting the national anthem. Co-owner of the New York Giants, Steve Tisch, has since announced that their players will not be subject to penalties for protesting police brutality during the national anthem. The public backlash to the Dolphins’ announcement has forced the NFL to put a freeze on its national anthem protest policy, and the NFL Players’ Association (NFLPA) and the NFL are finally working out an agreement to end the anthem feud, as should have been the case in the first place given the collective bargaining agreement. Since the Dolphins’ announcement and resulting public backlash, Donald Trump has tweeted his displeasure with the anthem dispute, tweeting, “Isn’t it in contract that players must stand at attention, hand on heart? The $40,000,000 Commissioner must now make a stand. First time kneeling, out for game. Second time kneeling, out for season/no pay!” To answer Donald's question, players’ contracts do not include an anthem clause and neither does the collective bargaining agreement, and the commissioner taking Trump's recommended stand could be devastating to the league given the NFLPA's membership being almost 70-percent black. That union, at least, still has power. There is no NFL if just the black players protest during the anthem, and it hasn’t been just black players protesting. I imagine the players value their right to protest more than the right to use cannabis but less than they value guaranteed contracts. On the topic of guaranteed contracts... Headline 2: Le’Veon Bell to Play Without Job Security for Third Straight Season For a third consecutive season, running back Le’Veon Bell will play for the Steelers without a long-term contract in place, providing him no job security if he were to be injured in 2018. Pittsburgh’s final offer to Bell, which is likely to be the final contract the Steelers ever offer Bell, was reportedly worth $70 million over five years. But it only contained $10 million in guaranteed money, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. And Jason Fitzgerald of OverTheCap.com tweeted that the deal would have been virtually identical to...the last contract” Pittsburgh offered because the boosts in value would have been based on the increase in value of the running back franchise tag. Bell’s franchise tag with Pittsburgh will pay him $14.55 million this season, but if he were to be injured, Bell might end up with a mostly unguaranteed contract in 2019 if he’s healthy enough to play at all. Bell isn’t the only player griping about the NFL’s non-guaranteed contracts, but running backs seem to be the loudest proponents for guaranteed contracts and for good reason. Los Angeles Rams’ running back Todd Gurley told TMZ S...
