What would you prefer: Golf like Scotty Scheffler, Sing like Whitney Houston, Dance like MJ or Act like Meryl Streep? There is a consensus from everyone, except from George… Liam had parent-teacher interviews last night all on his own! His adult responsibility and the future of his children really dawned on him. Spida is fed up with Crisafulli after finding out that the Coomera hospital is being torn down. The amount of time and money that has been wasted just to tear it down + the supposed deadline for a completion next year. He is sick of the half-finished jobs. Coomera Connector, Light Rail, the new stadium, the Olympics looming. The team got on the tools with John Holland and the Lady Tradies to help out Donna + Liam was brought back down to Earth by an employee that just started in the office. He had to explain who he was – not once, but twice. His poor little ego!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The first weeks back at school can make or break your child’s year — but what most parents miss is that the relationship you build with their teacher is the secret lever that shifts everything. In this episode, Justin and Kylie unpack the surprising stats behind teacher burnout, why parent behaviour matters more than we think, and three game-changing ways to build a relationship with teachers that actually helps your child succeed — even if you’ve had rough years before. KEY POINTS: The hidden stress teachers face — and why it impacts your child Why yelling, demanding, and “fix my kid” approaches backfire The Parent Advantage: how small acts of service earn trust fast Gratitude as rocket fuel for teacher morale (done without bribery!) Don’t believe everything your child says — context matters How to assume positive intent and extend grace in tough moments QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: “Teachers are usually on your child’s side. They want to see your child succeed and win.” RESOURCES MENTIONED: Happy Families Schools Parent/Teacher Support Workshops ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS: Volunteer for something — reading, excursions, laminating, anything. Send gratitude early — a note, tiny gift, or simple “I see you.” Acknowledge wins — when your child shares something positive, pass it on. Hold stories lightly — get context before reacting. Assume positive intent — teachers want your child to do well. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Middle school marks a pivotal time as students transition from one primary teacher to several, face increasing academic expectations, and start seeking greater independence. It's also a season when parents shift from manager to coach, learning to balance autonomy with meaningful guidance. Dawn Sullivan, a Classical Academy middle school teacher, shares insights on how families can nurture executive functioning skills during this critical period. She offers practical approaches such as modeling organization, establishing routines, weekly schedule reviews, and encouraging students to communicate directly with teachers. As students transition to high school, Dawn outlines how parents can gradually assume a mentor role, equipping teens to handle increasingly complex responsibilities with confidence. We've got the reddit report of parent/ teacher stories! Welcome aboard "Crying In My Car," the podcast where the classroom meets comedy, and chaos. I'm your host Devin Siebold, joined by my hilarious cohort, James Yon. We're diving into the gritty realities of the physical and mental toll of teaching. It's a journey of laughter, stress balls, and finding those glimmers of hope and purpose amidst lesson plans and late-night grading. Then hold onto your hall passes, because we've got some of the most outrageous stories you've ever heard. From a history teacher with some, 'creative' self-scanning techniques to a substitute teacher whose pants-down approach landed him in hot water. And for our TikTok enthusiasts, we've got a tale that turned a classroom dream into a viral reality. Not to mention the public school teacher who stirred up controversy with religious music lessons. We also delve into the struggles of taking father's leave in the teaching world – because sometimes, working from home doesn't mean taking a break. And if you've ever thought about switching teaching gigs, we've got some strategies that might just be your golden ticket. So whether you're a teacher, an educator, or just a lover of all things unexpectedly hilarious, "Crying In My Car" is your go-to podcast. Join us, Devin, James, and James Yon as we explore the wild, weird, and wonderful world of teachers.
Parent-teacher relationships can be complicated and challenging on both sides. One of the most important things to keep in mind in order to have successful and respectful parent-teacher relationships is that judgment and blame are only going to do more harm than good and will not be beneficial to the student. That is why understanding different perspectives is crucial to a respectful parent-teacher relationship. There is no doubt that many people act differently based on their setting and the expectations of that setting. Our students are no different. There are different resources, expectations, and characteristics at home versus at school and because of this, our students may behave differently in each setting. In this episode, I am diving into why this is so important to keep in mind, how to communicate with parents about these differences in behavior, and why it is unproductive to place blame on families.00:50 - A real-life story about how an autism professional's son behaves differently around her than when he is around his teachers04:53 - How the characteristics and expectations at school and at home can vary greatly resulting in different behavior07:55- Why, as an educator, it's important to not allow yourself to blame parents for their child's behavior at school08:40 - Why fixing the setting and utilizing strategies to match with students' skills can help get different skills and behaviors within the classroom 13:16 - My message to you about parent-teacher relationshipsShow Notes: http://autismclassroomresources.com/episode199Resources:Check out the Home Communication Systems on TPTGrab your Free Parent Communication NoteListen to my Working With Families Episode Roundup PlaylistJoin the Autism Classroom Resources' Free Resource Library Get more information about the Special Educator AcademyJoin the Free Facebook Group If you're enjoying this podcast, could you please take a quick moment to leave your review on Apple Podcasts?
