Send us a text4 Flexibility Options Schools Need NOW to Retain Great TeachersIn this week's episode, I share something deeply personal that has been on my mind since I left the classroom full-time two years ago. The truth? I never stopped loving teaching or my students - I simply needed more flexibility than traditional school structures could offer. The Flexibility Crisis in EducationLet's be honest - teaching has become an all-or-nothing profession. You're either in the classroom full-time or completely out of education. This inflexible system is driving away talented educators who love teaching but need options that accommodate:Young children at homeAging parents requiring carePersonal health needsWork-life balanceIn this episode, I explore four potential solutions that could enable teachers to remain in the profession while enjoying more flexibility in their schedules. They include:1. Reimagined SabbaticalsNot just unpaid leave, but structured breaks (6 months to a year) with:Partial pay possibilitiesGuaranteed retention of tenureMaintained healthcare benefitsReturn-to-position guarantees2. Expanded Job SharesAllow two excellent teachers to split one full-time position:Flexible scheduling optionsMaintained benefits (critical improvement needed)Reduced burnoutPreserved institutional knowledgeCollaborative teaching partnershipsLess disruption for students3. Reduced Load ContractsCommon in higher education but rarely available in K-12:Teach fewer classes/sectionsPerfect for experienced educatorsOpportunity to bring back retired teachers as mentorsReduce burnout while maintaining connections4. Administrative Support SystemsAddress the number one complaint: "I love teaching - it's all the OTHER stuff that wears me out"Dedicated admin support for paperworkHelp with data entry, reporting, emailsGrade management assistanceParent communication supportReduced mental load for teachersBonus Idea: Professional "Break" BankCreate systems where teachers can donate time to colleagues needing mental health breaks - not just for physical illness.Remember: Flexible options aren't a sign of weakness - they're infrastructure for longevity a Want to truly thrive in teaching without sacrificing your personal life? Send us a textBefore recovery, I had no idea how many areas of my life I didn't even perceive as having a choice in. I thought, ‘This is just the way it is; this is just how life works.' But one of the greatest freedoms recovery has given me is learning that I actually do have choices, and the greatest of those freedoms is the freedom to choose what I think and believe. This week's episode 313 of the Fragmented to Whole Podcast is about how to go from victim mentality to empowered living! In this episode of the Fragmented to Whole Podcast, I share how I went from feeling powerless to living an empowered life by recognizing that I have choices! I delve into the concept of victim mentality, how our internalized beliefs can limit our choices and keep us feeling trapped in destructive patterns, and ultimately, how to choose peace and intentionality over reactivity. I encourage you to start by identifying one area in your life where you've been playing the victim. Make a conscious choice today to approach that situation with intention, personal responsibility, and hope.Be sure to tune in to all the episodes to receive tons of practical tips on living a more whole life and to hear even more about the points outlined above.Thank you for listening! Send us a textFor much of my life, I've known that one of my most hated human characteristics is arrogance. So, imagine my surprise when I learned in recovery that I was arrogant. Recovery also helped me understand that I hated it because it was something in me that I didn't like. And you know what we say in recovery: you spot it, you got it, and often, if you're spotting something regularly in other people, it's because you have it and probably don't like it. This week's episode 312 of the Fragmented to Whole Podcast is about the humbling truth behind my need to rescue and how I got out of it. Some of the talking points I go over in this episode include:Recovery helped me realize that my desire to help others stemmed from the need for control and superiority. Pointing out the different types of arrogance: intellectual, moral, spiritual, and social. Strategies for overcoming the need to rescue or fix others (including some language to use when doing so). Send us a textWhen my homeless friend moved in with me, we often listened to music instead of NPR, which was typical for me at the time. I came to realize that replacing politics with music shifted my mood drastically. When I was no longer filling my ears with the horrible things happening in our world, I noticed how much more at peace I felt and how much of a game changer this was for me. This week's episode 311 of the Fragmented to Whole Podcast is about choosing peace over panic- why I stopped watching the news. In this episode of the Fragmented to Whole Podcast, I'm sharing my transformative journey of prioritizing my mental health by stepping away from constant news consumption, some options if you want to limit your news intake, but don't want to be kept out of the loop completely, and a prayer you can read before watching the news should you choose to do so.A Prayer Before Reading the News Written by Rabbi Irwin Keller in early 2016 My God, the soul you have placed in me is pure and vulnerable. I am afraid that looking at today's news will be painful. Encircle me in a robe of lightso that I can witness the wounds of the world without being wounded myself. Let me learn what I need to know In order to be of greatest usewithout being overwhelmed by despair. I feel your protective light nowas I open myself to the world's suffering and the world's joys. Amen Remember, you are not obligated to be constantly informed about every world event. Your mental peace is more important than feeling perpetually anxious about things outside your control. Take a moment to evaluate how news consumption affects your daily life, and give yourself permission to make changes that support your emotional wellness.Be sure to tune in to all the episodes to receive tons of practical tips on living a more whole life and to hear even more about the points outlined above.Thank you for listening! Today's guest, Mark, was using his compulsive, addictive behaviors in an attempt to fill a “God-sized hole” in his life. He shares with us how recovery and finding his higher power has helped him fill that hole and soar beyond what he ever believed possible. Some of the talking points Mark I go over in this episode include:Mark's lifelong journey of using compulsive behaviors to fill a hole in his life.Addiction is often a symptom of deeper emotional wounds. Spiritual growth involves right-sizing your life and practicing humility. Recovery is about letting go and unlearning things so we can thrive, not just survive.Mark's journey demonstrates that no matter how dark your past, transformation is possible. Send us a textRegardless of how long I have been working with clients as a boundaries coach, I am still amazed by the mind-blowing revelations my clients have as a result of working with me. Today, I am sharing one of these profound experiences by sharing a story from “Sylvia,” one of my clients who confidently took back ownership of her life. This week's episode 308 of the Fragmented to Whole Podcast is about how to go beyond ‘woe is me'- Sylvia's powerful shift to self-ownership. In this episode of the Fragmented to Whole Podcast, I'm sharing a story from a client call where, with the help of boundaries coaching, “Sylvia” was able to overcome years of trauma, workplace challenges, and personal struggles to emerge stronger and more confident. Some key takeaways I go over in this episode include:You have the right to set boundaries because you get to live your life the way YOU want. You don't have to engage with people who have hurt you. You don't need to explain yourself to everyone. You own your narrative; other people don't get to tell you who you are or were. Give yourself grace, treating yourself as you would a beloved friend. Sylvia's story is a powerful reminder that we all have the ability to change our narratives and reclaim our power– and that's something we can all learn from.Be sure to tune in to all the episodes to receive tons of practical tips on living a more whole life and to hear even more about the points outlined above.Thank you for listening! Mom & Me Moments: As a busy soul juggling it all, Elizabeth has learned that prioritizing self-care isn't selfish—it's essential. Send us a textCodependency in relationships can be a complex cycle to break, especially when it comes to family members. We tend to tolerate toxic behaviors for the sake of love and loyalty. That's why today I wanted to unpack some of the myths around loyalty and tolerance in dysfunctional family dynamics and how true love requires setting healthy boundaries. This week's episode 303 of the Fragmented to Whole Podcast is about breaking the codependency cycle! Some of the talking points I go over in this episode include:Love and loyalty do not mean tolerating abuse; when we excuse harmful behavior in the name of love, we're being loyal only to the dysfunction. True love includes boundaries, truth, and valuing yourself as a person, not just as a parent. The belief that "I don't matter" is a common issue for those in codependent relationships, leading them to prioritize the happiness of others over their own well-being.If you're struggling with codependency and setting boundaries in your relationships, know that you're not alone. Recovery is about unlearning patterns handed down to us and choosing a different way forward. It's never too late to change, and I am living proof of that.
