Regardless of the profession, most workers likely spend their earnings on necessities like mortgage or rent, food, utilities, and car expenses. Therefore, a side hustle can be an ideal solution for teachers when additional funds are needed, whether for a dream purchase or an unexpected cost. According to a 2021 survey, 53% of teachers were working multiple jobs, with many citing financial necessity as the primary reason. Additionally, the trend of teachers seeking supplementary income has been exacerbated by pandemic-related stress and rising living costs (EdSource) (Coursera). Surveys indicate that side hustles are common among teachers, with many starting these ventures as hobbies. Most side hustles are worked on for 5-10 hours per week, often in the evenings (Self). This suggests a significant portion of educators are balancing additional work alongside their teaching responsibilities, though specific 2023 statistics for new side hustles are not detailed. These trends highlight educators' economic pressures and the growing need for additional income sources. In this episode, I speak with Luz Nazario, a teacher who has successfully managed her side hustle business since 2016. She shares her journey of balancing teaching with running a business. We discuss:
The DaliTalks Podcast is back! And the first topic I think we need to discuss is educating our teens about worker's rights. Too many teens and young adults are exploited or mistreated for simply being too young. They are not respected but their work is wanted. We must change this by empowering our teens and young adults to stand up for themselves. To do that, we must educate ourselves and pass on the knowledge to them. Here's what I go over in this episode:
I've been a caregiver to my husband since 2003. Along the way, we've experienced many good and bad times that we learned from. Today, I'll share a bit about what I've learned as a caregiver and what I think you could do to avoid some mistakes. I will talk about… ✅ having patience with the medical system ✅ know that it's up to you to follow up on EVERYTHING ✅ medical trauma ✅ the changes in family dynamics ✅ self-care for everyone in the family ✅ getting professional mental health help Unfortunately, we see a higher rate of suicides during this season, so we need to reach out for help and to check on our loved ones more. What would you do if your child was being bullied by a student and it turned to sexual harassment? Today, I start off by mentioning that this episode might be triggering to some people. I discuss a recent article on the suicide of an 11-year-old girl who was bullied and a first-grader whose bullying experience advanced to sexual harassment. These stories are shared in hopes that they will provide you with an idea of how strong an advocate you could be for your child if they have or are experiencing any form of bullying and to empower you with knowledge. I will discuss…
Parents have to have many uncomfortable conversations with children at different ages and maturity stages. For example, explaining to a child why some relatives are not welcome into your home, explaining to them what to do if a police officer pulls them over, or having to tell them how to be safe to prevent sexual abuse or human trafficking. The list goes on. There are many conversations that we must have with kids that no one prepares us for. I believe that we are in an era where these conversations are becoming more public. To help you learn how you can have the conversation of body consent, boundaries and safety, I invited Veronica Del Pino, a bilingual (ENG/SPAN) licensed clinical social worker to share with you everything you need to know about working with a professional to help you learn how to have these hard conversations and manage your own trauma. We talk about:

She had her children very close together and realized early on that sleep was key to a smooth-running household (and my sanity). Carla was very diligent about instilling good sleep habits in her children. Nana, her mom, inspired her to create early bedtime routines and follow consistent schedules. To this day, her kids are all good sleepers and understand the benefits of a good night's sleep. As her family was growing, many of Carla's friends would ask her how she was able to keep everything under control. Carla quickly realized that because she had such a consistent routine, her children always knew what was coming next, and bathtime and bedtime struggles were few and far between. As her friends looked on, she began offering them support; helping them establish routines, and giving them recommendations for sleep and toddler behaviors. This led to her interest in becoming a Pediatric Sleep and Positive Encouragement Consultant and the founder and owner of Slumberland Solutions. Carla is here to help YOU and your family create loving and happy routines and she provided some really great tips to help you if you're struggling getting your kids to sleep. While bullying will always exist, it can be drastically reduced if only societies, communities, institutions, and organizations made a committed effort to create an anti-bullying culture. This is not an easy task, since it requires groups of people to work together, but movements have been created that have changed our way of life. So, it is doable! Here are three main factors that I believe can successfully create an anti-bullying culture to improve quality of life for everyone, not just our youth. Anti-bullying education and awareness Creating supportive environments Implementing strong policies and consequences Remember that change can happen and it only takes one person to take the initiative to start that change. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dalitalks/message

Advocating for your child at school is crucial as it can significantly impact their academic success and overall well-being. By advocating for your child, you ensure that their needs are being met and that their unique learning style, abilities, and challenges are being taken into consideration. However, many parents are unaware of their right to ask for resources or to question if certain resources or teaching methods are working for their child, which is also a form of advocacy. In this episode, I discuss the following topics:

While Western medicine may discredit the effectiveness of plant-based remedies, I believe we can benefit from selecting organic, natural products to consume. What makes one Latino or Latina? I have been thinking about this after I replied to an Instagram post regarding Gina Rodriguez's response after she was asked if she needs to speak the language in order to identify or be considered to be Latina. She responded by saying that she is not defined by anyone's definition of Latina and that she walks in her world confidently. Just like her, I agree that there isn't a one size fits all for any demographic. I have lived experiences as a Latina raised in the U.S. and have learned from other individuals who have faced ridicule by other Latinx people who believed they weren't real enough to identify as part of the Latin American community. This is the gist of this episode and I share my sentiments on it as well as two stories from people who have been made to feel outcast and/or denied to be fully accepted in their own Latin American community. For some students, college may be the best choice to pursue a certain career or to continue their education in a specific field. While others it may not be the best fit and they prefer to enter the workforce or explore alternative educational opportunities. College is a big commitment, both financially and in terms of time, and students need to be able to handle the rigors of college-level coursework and the responsibilities that come with living away from home. It's important to talk to your child and help them explore their options. In this episode, I speak with Maura Mulligan and Annamaria Wenner of Beyond The GPA about how children and parents can assess post high-school options. We talk about: How to support your child if they do not want to go to college Misconceptions around a gap year How to put your child's skills into action so they can progress with or without a degree Connect with Maura Mulligan and Annamaria Wenner Beyond The GPA: https://www.beyondthegpa.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/beyondthegpa/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BEYONDtheGPA Connect with Dali Rivera DaliTalks: https://www.dalitalks.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dalitalks/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dalitalk Please subscribe and share this podcast. There are several benefits to doing an end-of-year review. It can help you reflect on your accomplishments and challenges from the past year, set goals for the coming year, and identify areas for improvement. An end-of-year review can also help you take stock of your personal and professional growth and development over the past year. Additionally, it can be a helpful tool for tracking progress towards longer-term goals and staying motivated to achieve them. Conducting an end-of-year review can be a valuable way to close out the year on a positive note and set the stage for a successful new year. In this episode, I share; Why you should consider reviewing the past year Questions to consider asking yourself to do a thorough review My plans for the DaliTalks Podcast in 2023 Gratitude to every listener and viewer Connect with Dali Rivera DaliTalks: https://www.dalitalks.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dalitalks/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dalitalk Please subscribe and share this podcast. #dalitalks #bullying #anti-bullying awareness --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dalitalks/message

Cairo Eubanks was in college when a peer began stalking and harassing her online. She didn't personally know the guy. After months of his attacks, she decided to speak up about it online, and much to her surprise other victims spoke out. They all banded together and with a lot of work, they were able to put a stop to it. But it shouldn't have taken over 30 women to stop one cyberstalker. That experience lead Cairo to do a lot more in the world. Cairo created Bringing The Globe (BTG), a virtual international student exchange program and a global village for students equipping them with the transferable skill sets and resources they need to thrive. BTG provides self-paced courses, live and virtual workshops, and online international conferences every year that leverage evidence-based and scientific research to help students find their purpose and passion. Cairo's work has extended into so many areas, that I had to invite her to the podcast to share her story with you. If you're a parent who has a child looking for an opportunity to get involved in social activism, you will enjoy this conversation. Tune in to learn about:
