Episode #468 Winter Wonderland Sunday, May 24, 2020 6:59 AM Welcome Welcome to Episode #468 of the 303 Endurance Podcast. We're your hosts Coaches Rich Soares and April Spilde. Thanks for joining us for another week of endurance news, coaching tips and discussion. Before we jump in, I've learned an interesting factoid I want to share with you and get your perspective on (not dad-joke related).
81 year old Judy Swanson: Recent Competitive Body Builder, Marathon Runner, Pilates, Yoga, and CrossFit Regular, Shares Secrets on Living a Life of Wellness.
What's old always becomes new again — even with workout routines. The hot workout class of the moment isn't brand-new. It's Pilates, a core-focused routine first popularized almost a century ago.Pilates, yoga, barre and other “lower-impact” exercise classes are gaining popularity, as Americans turn away from previously-popular “higher-impact” classes, such as CrossFit.But lower-impact doesn't necessarily mean “easy.”Three guests joined MPR News host Angela Davis to talk about the benefits of these low-impact classes, sometimes called “functional fitness,” and how they can fit into your routine.Guests: Ayanna Rakhu, Ph.D., is a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Kinesiology with a background in sport and exercise psychology. Rakhu is a physical activity expert who focuses on swimming.Libby Grundhoefer is a Pilates instructor and personal trainer with the Minnesota Jewish Community Center.Gretchen Bierbaum is the owner of Straightline Dance Fitness, a fitness studio in northeast Minneapolis.

Pilates, Yoga, Menopause and Me Introduction: Movement is in my DNA, and for as long as I can remember I have used lifestyle medicine to optimise health and wellness for myself and my family. As I encountered the challenges presented by menopause my Physiotherapy expertise and my passion for all things movement-related proved priceless. Pilates, Yoga, and natural medicine were all central to me mastering this transformative phase in my life. For this podcast episode join me in the 'Treatment Room Podcast' where I chat with host Dani Marks, Head of Partnerships at NAT Global Campus. Listen on to hear my Top Movement Tips to thrive up to, through and beyond Menopause. Join us and discover: How my early life set me on my path to discover the power of movement as medicine. Get the lowdown on the profound impact of menopause on a woman's body and how Movement for Menopause can make a massive difference. Why my lived experience leaves me without any doubt of the intimate connection between a healthy body, mind, and spirit. If you want to know what movements make the most difference and discover the power of movement as medicine for the body and mind listen on! Key messages: A Journey Rooted in Movement My teenage years were influenced by our family traditions of sports and outdoor activities. This remains the foundation for my passion for holistic well-being still today. My career in physiotherapy was also a gateway to my lifelong commitment to movement and its pivotal role in maintaining overall health. Pilates and Yoga are at the Heart of my transformation. My holistic approach to movement led me to Pilates and yoga. First, I experienced the profound blend of physical and mental well-being afforded by machine and mat Pilates. Next, the transformative power of breath and movement afforded by Hatha yoga resonated with me. And so Yoga became the second Pillar of my movement practice. Finally, moving beyond specific styles, I embrace diverse movement experiences and incorporate lessons learned from each practice into my holistic philosophy. My journey unfolds as a tapestry of exploration, growth, and an unwavering commitment to inspiring others to embrace the life-changing power of movement. Menopause and the Uncharted Path Navigating the uncharted waters of menopause became a significant chapter in my life. Symptoms made a gradual appearance following my return from living in the U.S. I encountered unexpected challenges, namely insomnia, digestive difficulties, heavy periods, dry skin, and I could go on! I was not in the least bit prepared for these unwelcome changes and set about learning all that I could. This journey, nigh on 10 years of self-experimentation brought me a renewed appreciation of movement's role in managing my menopause symptoms. Menopause is not a uniform experience for women and a multitude of variables can influence how symptoms play out. I have the utmost sympathy for the 25% of women who struggle with severe symptoms, but I do know without a shadow of a doubt that there is NOT ONE SYMPTOM of Menopause that doesn't respond to movement. Empowering everyone to enjoy movement for Holistic Well-Being The best advice I can give to anyone, and everyone is to move more: Consider getting stronger, especially after menopause. Practice balance-focused exercises. Incorporate some mindful movement-type practices like Pilates and Yoga into your weekly routine. I sincerely hope that my story serves as an inspiration for those facing challenges and contemplating their wellness journeys. I invite you to embrace the transformative power of movement and find empowerment in the face of life's inevitable changes. Book your FREE 30-minute consultation to discover your movement prescription for Menopause. My Thanks to Dani Marks, Head of Partnerships at NAT Global Campus for having me on The Niel Asher Education Treatment Room Podcast.

Und geht ihn weiterhin, step by step. Josh Leve is responsible for the strategic development and growth of the Association of Fitness Studios. Josh brings more than 10 years of sales, consulting, advertising, marketing, operations, and retail experience to AFS. Josh has spent more than a decade in the fitness industry. Most recently managing large scale health clubs and successfully turning around the financial performance of three different facilities, while also providing consultative services for the boutique studio market. The idea of AFS stemmed from combining Josh’s health and fitness background, with his father Chuck's 40-year expertise in developing fitness associations. Time and time again, Josh had seen first hand, trainer after trainer leave the health club environment to start their own business, yet only to return due to the inability to find the proper resources focused on the business of owning and operating a fitness studio. In 2013, the Association of Fitness Studios (AFS) was born. You can say running an association and being in the fitness industry was inevitable for Josh. His grandfather Mort (a member of the Handball Hall of Fame) was founder of the National Court Clubs Association (NCCA) – one of the International, Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association’s (IHRSA) predecessors – and executive director of the US Handball Association (USHA). His father, Chuck Leve (a member of the Racquetball Hall of Fame) and 40-year industry veteran, was executive director of the US Racquetball Association, a founding employee of IHRSA, and developer and builder of four fitness start-ups including IHRSA. Prior to his health club experience Josh worked with Corbett Accel – the largest healthcare communications/advertising company in the US where he launched products for major pharmaceutical companies such as Merck, Bristol Myers Squibb and Sanofi-Aventis. Josh holds a BA in Journalism from the University of Kansas. Listen To Episode 005 As Josh Uncovers Why many top trainers leave clubs and studios to open their own The roadblocks and opportunities exist for fitness studios in the next 2-3 years What is the AFS and how does it serve fitness and wellness studios? What separates successful studios from the pack? Josh's featured contribution in the 2017 FIT-C Tech Trends Report How to create strategy around word of mouth and referrals for new studio members What Crossfit means to the fitness and studio market landscape What technology is moving the needle in fitness studios Why doing market research is pivotal for new studio owners Why leveraging human connection with technology will lead the way in fitness Understanding when to lean on technology and when to leverage personal connection in business operations. How to use new technology to ease the stress of running a business Top 3 Takeaways From The Show The future of successful fitness studios will be the ones that do customization and personalization best. Taking all the collected customer data and making it meaningful will separate the savvy studios from the rest of the pack. The consumer of today expects authenticity and high touch experiences from their studio. After all, a fitness studio by nature is deeply engrained in the local community. Make sure your business education and skill set runs parallel of your fitness education. Attend conferences, workshops, masterminds and the like to see what else others are using from a technology stand-point to differentiate themselves and determine if it's right for you.
