My guest on the show today is with John Rotonti, Portfolio Manager at Islamorada Investment Management. John very recently joined Islamorada Investment Management running their Industrial and Infrastructure portfolio, and he's been actively researching and dissecting about the electrification of everything plus anything housing related. We jump in headfirst on his investing philosophy and checklist/criteria when looking at this swath of companies. And for full disclosure, we discussed a number of companies during today's podcast, I am not a shareholder in any of them. My guest on the show today is Denver Smith, Managing Partner & Chief Investment Officer at Carlson Ridge Capital. We've done a number of episodes over the years on Activist Investing, and I'd say all the investors that end up going activist, it's a reluctant endeavour; they basically, with all the circumstances happening in that particular company, made a conscious decision doing a time and cost analysis that it was a necessary step. But the biggest difference between most activist investors we've had on, or rather, investors that have gone active, is that they wouldn't necessarily describe themselves as activist investors; it was all situational. While becoming an activist investor was initially unintentional with my guest today, Denver Smith, he is now most certainly intentional when the circumstances are ripe. And we dive into what a ripe situation looks like. And for full disclosure, we discussed a number of companies during today's podcast, I am not a shareholder in any of them. My guest on the show today is with Devin LaSarre, Founder & Editor of Invariant. I've been following Devin for a while on social media, and invited him on to better understand his overall investing philosophy, and then specifically dig into an industry / idea a bit further. This episode I would say falls into the "ways of seeing" bucket, meaning, every once in a while I have a conversation on here with someone that has a completely different way they look at investing that I find very unique. In this case, Devin's focus on finding very "unclean" stories and doing the work to clean it up struck a chord that I wanted to understand further. I had a blast jamming on this concept, and then diving further on the Nicotine industry and his thesis on Haypp Group. And for full disclosure, we discussed a number of companies during today's podcast, I am not a shareholder in any of them. My guest on the show today is Kyle Grieve, Host of We Study Billionaires Podcast on the Investor's Podcast Network. I've been a fan from afar and had the chance to hang with Kyle at our conference in Vancouver last year. We had a blast and thought we should bring that energy to the podcast. I wanted to learn more about his background and how he got hooked into our MicroCap world here. We dove deeper into his thoughts on the differences between a quality business and quality investment, his criteria for an ideal investment and we close with lessons learned that came to his mind from his interviews on the We Host Billionaires podcast. My guest on the show today is Adam Wilk, Founder and Portfolio Manager at Greystone Capital Management. I invited Adam back on to discuss an article he wrote back in August 2024 to explore the idea of investors/shareholders finding companies, in other words, delving deeper into a statement made famous by Buffett, "companies ultimately end up with the shareholders they deserve." There's many different ways to think about this concept - Adam and I do our best to cover them all. I thought it was particularly interesting for why Adam even wrote the article was inspired by potential LPs and other investors asking him why won't this company stay cheap forever; I would've thought for sure this article was inspired by management teams asking him about this topic. And for full disclosure, we discussed a number of companies during today's podcast, I am not a shareholder in any of them. My guest on the show today is Whit Huguley, Fund Manager at River Oaks Capital. I've known Whit for a few years now, first having met him at one of my own conferences in Vegas, and have gotten to know and appreciate Whit's investing style. He launched his Fund, River Oaks Capital, about 5 years ago now, and while he's in the middle of writing his annual letter, he graciously jumped on the pod to talk more about what he's learned from running a MicroCap fund thus far. I've always enjoyed Conor's appearances on Yet Another Value Podcast pitching individual ideas, and invited him on here to share more about his background, fundamental investing philosophy, what an ideal investment looks like to him, investing framework, and more. Special situations is always fun to talk about, in my opinion, and some of my favorite conversations are had when discussing the topic. This one with Conor fits that bill in spades. My guest on the show today is Maj Soueidan, Founder and Editor at GeoInvesting. 2024 is in the books, and like every good podcaster, we had to do our version of a year-in-review, and in the MicroCap world, there's no shortage of things to cover. So much so, this might be Maj and I's longest pod ever - an hour and 40 minutes worth of mostly what I think we do best, jam session on MicroCap stocks and investing. Maj absolutely cooks on this episode, and it's always fun to watch. We dissect defining quality, round trips, unexpected winners, information arbitrage, growth capital, how diversification can allow you to concentrate, and much more. We discussed a number of stocks during our interview today, I am not a shareholder in any of them, and Maj also may or may not own companies that comprise their Tier One Quality MicroCap Index, please see MS MicroCaps and GeoInvesting for full disclosure. Roger runs a long-biased investment firm in LA that invests primarily in equities, and focuses on nanocaps and special situations. Their objective is to compound at 15-20%+ over the long term with a concentrated portfolio and minimal/no leverage or shorting. My guest on the show today is Deiya Pernas, Co-Founder and Analyst at Pernas Research. Growth, runway for growth, greenfield opportunities, current market penetration, competitive landscape: these are all concepts we need to think about when looking at MicroCaps, and we've talked at length on this show about. The idea, or the ability, to conceptualize the future for any given company is a skill I think we all wish we had mastered (then we'd all be extremely wealthy), and yet, is what makes investing in Small, MicroCaps so damn fun. Deiya and his team at Pernas Research focus heavily on companies where their future is brighter than their current state, in other words, how the conceptualization of their futures are different from market perception. We dig into this idea today, and provide a few examples to illustrate what Deiya means. My guest on the show today is Colin King, Partner at Circle City Capital Group, Inc., and known as @valuedontlie on Twitter/X. I think we've all seen those memes and videos of folks who left their amazing job at Goldman Sacks to buy multiple small businesses, then of course, if you subscribe to their newsletter they'll show you how they did it. All jokes aside, it's a strategy that has worked time and again for many folks out there, however, buying and operating small private businesses is not as easy as social media would make you think, goes without saying. My guest on the show today is Tristan Waine, better known as @hurdle_rate on Twitter/X and Editor, Author of the Hurdle Rate newsletter on Substack. We've talked many times here about the circle of competence, investing in what you know, looking at companies that produce goods or services that you actually consume, a style of investing, or more specifically, idea generation that Peter Lynch made famous. In our conversation today, Tristan and I talk extensively about this concept as it pertains to his investing style and philosophy. Specifically, we thought we could up the boring business ante, by talking about the sexiest businesses alive: accounting and document management software. In all seriousness, we have a great time, and Tristan provides some valuable insight on the topic of investing in what you know. Paul was recently on Andrew Walker's Yet Another Value Podcast having a conversation about Red Cat Holdings $RCAT - a company we actually interviewed, now way back in the day, in 2019 when they were still on the Pink Sheets. He did an awesome job on the show, and invited him on today to learn more about his investing philosophy, strategy and why it's not necessarily bottom fishing when looking at MicroCaps. For more information about Paul Cerro and Cedar Grove Capital Management, please visit: https://www.cedargrovecm.com/ We're excited to announce that we'll be partnering up with MicroCapClub for our full slate of investor conferences in 2025. Ian Cassel and his team at MicroCapClub have not only built and fostered the best community of MicroCap investors, but it's arguably one of the best investing communities, period. We couldn't be more thrilled to leverage our expertise in curating and hosting large scale MicroCap conferences, and teaming up with MicroCapClub to put together world class conferences for the MicroCap community. First up, the Planet MicroCap Showcase: VEGAS in partnership with MicroCapClub will be held on April 22-24, 2025 at the Paris Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. My guest on the show today is Nick Blitterswyk, CEO of UGE International. On May 29, 2024, UGE announced an arrangement agreement for going private transaction with NOVA Infrastructure Fund for an all-cash consideration of C$2.00 per common share, a 270% premium to the closing price of the common shares on May 28, 2024. The company officially closed the planned take-private transaction on August 15, 2024. Today's interview has a few factors at play here: 1. We've done quite a few interviews recently here, i.e., with Mathieu Martin and Paul Andreola, about how M&A has been hot, particularly in Canada, for the last 12-18 months, with no signs of slowing down. 2. I've known Nick now for almost 10 years, having first interviewed him back in 2015, and have covered the UGE journey from beginning to now conclusion of their life as a public company. So, I wanted to share with you all a conversation about Nick's experience as a MicroCap public company CEO, what it means to run a MicroCap public company, what happened and why now was the time to go forward with the transaction to go private, lessons learned, insights to pass on about his experience being a MicroCap CEO and more! Now that the deal has officially closed, I really appreciated Nick's candor and hopefully a lot can be gleaned from this episode that the entire MicroCap space can learn from, as well as a glimpse behind the thought process when faced with the prospect of staying public vs. being acquired/going private. For more information about UGE, please visit: https://ugei.com/ We're excited to announce that we'll be partnering up with MicroCapClub for our full slate of investor conferences in 2025. Today, as promised, is our 2023 MURTEC recap show. It was a short two weeks ago we were gathered together at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas right in the middle of one of the best conferences I have been to in a very long time. Anybody who has listened to this show for any length of time knows that a recap show is a must for anybody who did not have a chance to attend OR did not have a chance to see all the sessions. Having said that, time is too short on this show to talk about every single fire chat, keynote and breakout session that was available, however, my colleague (Toby Malbec) and I dig into some interesting aspects of the show. Hopefully you will enjoy this quick 30 minute, jam packed episode of all the informative and fun stuff surrounding MURTEC. I have one more surprise for you related to the show so scroll down to find out what's coming next week! How To Contact MeWebsite: https://SkipKimpel.com (all archived shows and show notes will be posted here)Website: https://ConStrata.ioInstagram: https://instagram.com/skipkimpelTwitter: https://twitter.com/skipkimpelFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/skipkimpel1/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@skipkimpelLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/skipkimpelLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/constrata-consultingYou can also hear all these new episodes on the ConStrata website at ConStrata.ioEmail me at skip.kimpel@constrata.ioNext Week's ShowWhile at MURTEC , I had the honor to host a kickoff fire chat with Kevin Seo for a session on the metaverse and breaking it down to it's basics and the power behind the potential of where this technology is headed and, most importantly, how it could potentially impact you in the restaurant and hospitality world. Shortly after the public session, I sat down with Kevin 1-on-1 and we had a discussion around this so that I could bring it to you here on The Tech Chef. Next Tuesday is a MUST HEAR episode!

The Tech Chef, Restaurant, Hospitality and Hotel Technology Business Podcast
For all of you that saw me speak over the past couple of days, I hope you enjoyed yourselves. You were fun and engaged audiences! Web3 and the metaverse can really stoke different thoughts and emotions in people and I had fun exploring the technology as a whole with you and hearing YOUR thoughts on where this technology is headed. It is still the wild west out there when it comes to these topics, and we have yet to see where it all lands. Hopefully you had some good takeaways and are challenging yourself a little more now that you understand the technologies a little bit better. So here we all are at MURTEC. Hopefully you are all having a fantastic show and are winning lots of money here at the Paris Hotel in Vegas. The content of this show has been absolutely fantastic thus far and it has been a while since I have seen this many people at one of these shows. This might be the record for attendance to MURTEC!SToday on The Tech Chef, we will be talking about “Crafting A Digital Palette.” To talk about how he pulled this off, Scott Lawton the CEO and Co-Founder of bartaco joins the show. Bartaco is a coastal-inspired restaurant serving fresh, upscale street food in a relaxed environment. Scott has over twenty five years of leadership experience in the hospitality arena, and rejoined bartaco in 2020 under the new private ownership of L Catterton, where he oversees the concept's overall vision and growth. That year, Lawton led the rollout of bartaco's on- demand hospitality dining model, and continues to pave the way for other restaurant leaders looking to create a seamless guest experience. Under his leadership, bartaco was recognized by Hospitality Technology's MURTEC Breakthrough Awards in 2022 for the restaurant's signature “on-demand hospitality.”Prior to becoming CEO of bartaco, Lawton was Chief Operating Officer of Barteca, managing development, day-to-day operations and personnel recruitment. Lawton previously held key leadership roles with Tribeca Grill, Buckhead Life and Big Time Restaurants. If you have never eaten at bartaco before, do yourself a favor and check them out. Not only is the food amazing but the experience is a real treat as well. Something about being able to control your own experience through the ordering process to the payment at the end of your visit makes it special. Of course, as Scott talked about, hospitality and service is NOT compromised through these digital methods. Technology should never be used to replace hospitality and touch points. Hospitality is such an important part of the value

One of the highlights of my trip was visiting the iconic Strip, which was lit up in a mesmerizing display of neon lights. I walked down the strip, taking in the sights and sounds of the various casinos and hotels, each more extravagant than the last. However, let's be honest! A lot has changed since I last visited Las Vegas back in 2013. Another highlight was staying at the Paris Hotel and the people watching. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/untangle/support
A town built almost entirely on the hospitality industry, Las Vegas offers endless opportunities for exciting and fulfilling careers. In this episode of Career Conversations, I sit down with Karen Molina, Hotel Operations Manager, and Gary Austin, Director of Hotel Operations, at the beautiful Paris Hotel and Casino, located right in the middle of the Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tune in to hear us talk about hospitality and the career possibilities that are available in one of the most famous destination cities in the world. The Paris Hotel, built in 1997, boasts nearly 3000 rooms and a wide variety of restaurants, shopping and casinos. Karen and Gary oversee a large group of employees who take care of guests who stay in the hotel. This task is to the tune of a little over 1000 check-ins, and 1000 check-outs every single day. Both Karen and Gary arrived at their current positions by moving up within the company. Karen started out as a guest registration clerk and Gary attended UNLV for a hotel management degree. Both moved through various positions to arrive at the top level of management within a 15-year time frame. Both love the energy and spirit of Vegas, and couldn't imagine doing anything else as their chosen career. Las Vegas currently has 150,487 hotel rooms available for travelers and vacationers. Shows run every single night, and food and beverage service is available 24/7. Current O*Net searches indicate nearly 6000 jobs are available right now in hospitality in Vegas. Karen and Gary discuss with me the day to day experience with running a world-famous hotel at the highest level of customer service, and the perks and excitement that come along with the career. Bottom line, if you want a fast-paced and exciting career in hospitality (with ample opportunities for advancement), Las Vegas may just be the destination for you. Sustainability is gaining momentum in the logistics space. Senior executives from the logistics industry presented their sustainability goals and investments, while innovative players from the industry showcased their product offerings that will enable a carbon neutral future. Really cool trucks were in attendance at Manifest including autonomous and electric vehicles. Attendees didn't just get brochures and video demos about the future of trucking, they got to climb in the trucks and participate in ride-alongs. After months of frustrating negotiations...the owners and players failed to come to an agreement. But alas, MLB Commish Rob Manfred instituted a 60 game season, players agreed to the health protocols, and voila! We officially have a 2020 baseball season! Here are the main points: 60 game season (40 against NL West, 20 against AL West) Universal DH In every extra inning, a runner starts the inning on second base 60 player pool; camp opens today, July 1 Season starts July 23 or 24 Trade deadline is Aug 31 30 man roster the first 2 weeks of the season, 28 the next 2 weeks, 26 the rest of the way Playoffs remain the same (3 division winners, 2 wild cards in each league) Separate COVID-19 injured list. A player has to test negative twice to resume play Players and personnel not in game must be in stands, 6 feet apart Eric and I talk about the ramifications these new rules have on the Giants, including who's going to be DH most of the time, the Giants actually have a shot at a playoff spot with so few games, how do they handle stats of runners scoring in extra innings, and much, much more. We are so excited to actually discuss real baseball, but we hope that the season not only starts, but can come to a conclusion. There is serious worry about what the virus may do to halt the season. But, in the meantime, we're moving forward and will be back with an episode in mid-July and our annual season preview around July 22. As noted in the photo above, Eric and I met up in Las Vegas last week, the first time we've seen each other in 7 years! We talked shop, drank, and caught up. We highly recommend "BEER PARK" at the Paris Hotel, a great outdoor venue. Next time, we'll make a podcast out of it. @chadk21 & @2outhits @torturecast facebook.com/torturecast torturecast.com

At the end of the Second World War the grand Parisian hotel, the Lutetia, was allocated to receive thousands of prisoners and Nazi concentration camp survivors returning home from across a ravaged Europe. Louise Hidalgo talks to two people for whom the Hotel Lutetia played a crucial role in 1945: Maurice Cling, a survivor of Auschwitz, and Christiane Umido who, as a young girl, was reunited there with her father. Focusing on Emerging Markets I'm going to spend most of today's podcast talking about what is going on in the emerging markets, in the currency market and in the stock markets; what the speculators are doing, why they are doing it and why I think they are wrong and why I think it creates an excellent opportunity for investors to fade this trade and prepare for the ultimate reversal of these moves. Freedom Fest in Las Vegas But before I get into that, I want to talk about a few other topics of interest that happened after my last podcast. I also want to talk about Freedom Fest in July. I am going to Freedom Fest again, as I do every year in July. Not the greatest time of the year in Las Vegas - not that there's really a bad time to be in Las Vegas, you're going to have fun in Las Vegas whenever you go - but it is quite hot in July. Of course I spend almost all my time indoors, so the heat really does not affect me. And when I do go out, it is at night, and it is not so hot. The event is July 12-14 and if you have not already registered you can do it now. It will be at the Paris Hotel & Casino; I will be there with my entire family - my wife and 3 kids. We'll be at our booth, you can come by and have a chance to meet my wife and kids and say hello. Presentation on Tax Incentives of Working and Moving to Puerto Rico I am going to be participating in several events; I am going to be doing a talk on Puerto Rico and the tax incentives of working from and moving to Puerto Rico. Most of you should know by now, I am Puerto Rican. Puerto Rico is my main residence; I summer in Connecticut, but I am a resident of Puerto Rico. Euro Pacific Asset Management and Euro Pacific Bank are both based in Puerto Rico. Bitcoin Debate Moderated by Naomi Brockwell Also I am going to be doing a Bitcoin debate against Jeffrey Tucker and Gary Smith - is it real, or is it Tulipmania? All of you realize what side I am on. The debate will be moderated by Naomi Brockwell, who is known as "The Bitcoin Girl" in fact she appeared on my old radio show, the Peter Schiff Show, and I sure wish I'd listened to her and bought a bunch of bitcoin - obviously I would have a lot more money today.

In this edition of the Affiliate Buzz, host and Instructor of the Affiliate Marketers BootCamp, James Martell, is joined by his wife Arlene, who has been away for a few weeks. In this edition they mainly discuss how you can manage a remote team to expand your business quickly. To start with however, they talk about the 2015 Affiliate Summit in Las Vegas being held at the Paris Hotel. The Affiliate Summit began in 2003; the inaugural meeting was attended by 150 people. James was unable to attend the first summit. He also couldn't attend the latest held in New York. When he can’t attend he is actively watching the Twitter conversation. The next summit will be held between January 18th and 20th. It is expected 5000 people will attend the event. Those interested can receive a special discount on the VIP access passes. Many affiliates think the cost is too high; but as has been previously mentioned on Affiliate Buzz Episode 329 these fees can be written off against your taxes. At the same time as going to these conferences, James and Arlene take a little breakation in the area. They have been many times before. On a previous visit, James and Arlene drove to Death Valley. Arlene believes the area is beautiful although it can be a little spooky because there is limited lighting along the highways. The highlight of the trip was visiting Scotty’s Castle and seeing a huge crater, which they were told about but happened upon almost by accident. Both James and Arlene really do recommend this area for getting away from it all. One of their suggestions is to go to the summit and then take two or three days out afterwards for a mini holiday. The Biggest Mistake Of Affiliates Arlene states the biggest mistake affiliates make is not being organized enough with their work, passcodes and usernames. In a business where a single affiliate can have literally dozens of codes, being organised is a must. James believes the biggest mistake for affiliates is them thinking they have to know how to do everything themselves before hiring an expert. James states that it takes too long to do any task this way and the quality is never at the level to yield the best returns. That is why he states you need to build and manage a team. One of James’ favorite statements and pieces of advice is: do what you do best and outsource the rest. During the episode, James and Arlene will discuss the following: What the problems are with doing the majority of the work yourself. What the advantages are with growing a team for your business and hiring professionals. Why Elance can be a really effective marketplace for finding the talent your business needs. Who James and Arlene hire to support their business operations. What the 15 minute rule is. To help manage this, James and Arlene use a tool called Basecamp. They have talked about Basecamp previously on Affiliate Buzz, episode 338. James and Arlene love Basecamp. The site offers a 60 day free trial without the need of a credit card. Everyone who they hire on Elance is immediately added to Basecamp. It helps with the management of projects as tasks can be assigned with specific deadlines. There are also options available for discussions and files on the system. If you do a lot of similar projects you can also create a template as a guide. This can save you a significant amount of time. James and Arlene have 180 to-dos set up in their template for starting a new website. Arlene and James both found the tool very easy to use and state their team members also find the system intuitive. Who Should An Affiliate Hire? Affiliate marketers should hire a number of professionals to support their business ventures. One of the first positions they should hire is a writer. These are people who can help with a blog post, auto-responder series and web copy. There are a number of different types of writers who write different content. It is also important to hire a graphics designer a...
The Madam C. J. Walker Annual Luncheon and National Coalition of 100 Black Women (NCBW) Induction Ceremony was held last Sunday. For those of you that missed it you missed a nice lunch a powerful speaker and meeting the newest members. The event was held at the Paris Hotel that did an awesome job with food service and a well prepared room. The food was good but there was another type of food that was even better. After the scheduled guess speaker bowed out the National President stepped in and gave a rousing speech! We will talk about the speech and the organization It is said that the summer begins with the Memorial Day holiday and weekend. It is usually a time when families and friends get time off from work and come together for Bar Be Cues. Is this the real reason for this holiday and how many people know what the real reason is? I love a good Cue as much as the rest of America but this holiday is so much more than grilling and time off. It is a time to reflect on those that made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can enjoy our day to day freedoms. Other Americans that wore our countries uniforms made that ultimate sacrifice and the Memorial Day Holiday is our time to reflect on them, visit and decorate family member's grave sites and be thankful as a nation. Do you know the original name of the holiday and why it started?
