Free Transcript https://elprofepresenta.wixsite.com/elprofepresenta elprofepresenta@gmail.com The Queen of Tejano is also The Queen of the American Dream. Learn Spanish in context by learning about the life of this Latin icon. Selena was not only an accomplished singer, but she was also a fashion designer, an actress, a song writer, a business woman and a model. And, She accomplished all of it by age 23. ¿Hola, qué tal? Bienvenidos a El profe presenta: Intermediate Spanish in Context. No podía evitar quiere decir I couldn't help it. Te desafío, te reto, a escuchar "La carcacha" y no bailar. Te van a gustar. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

There are stunning examples of innovative architecture and design in hotels all over this great planet, some of which we have been privileged enough to visit over the course of our travels. But the most impressive are those hospitality ventures that haven’t taken over a landscape, but have instead become part of it, quietly. In this episode, we first speak with Reda Amalou, architect and founder of AW², who allowed the dynamic topography of Costa Rica’s Papagayo Peninsula to guide his low-impact designs for the intimate yet sprawling beach and jungle retreat, Kasiiya Papagayo. On the other side of the world, on the tiny yet lush Christmas Island, Swell Lodge is the result of wildlife photographers and guides Chris and Jess Bray’s passion for what’s sometimes referred to as the “Galapagos of the Indian Ocean.” What Kasiiya and Swell Lodge have in common is a reverence for the natural environment that runs so deep they have not sought to change it. Listen to the episode for more from these visionaries, and follow them on Instagram at @kasiiyapapagayo, @redaamaloudesign, @aw2_architecture, @swelllodge and @chrisbrayphotography.

In this episode of Weird Studies, an improvised analysis of two pop songs -- Nina Simone's version of James Shelton's "Lilac Wine" and Ghostface Killah's visionary "Underwater" -- becomes the occasion for a deep dive to the weird wellspring of artistic creation. In trying to understand these songs and why they love them so much, your hosts touch on themes such as necromancy, decadence, liebestod, visionary experience, the Muslim image of paradise, the necessity of rifts, Norman Mailer's concept of "dream life," and the magical operation that is sampling. Meredith and Kaytee have a special guest again this week to discuss our favorite picture books for the 2-5 year kiddos in your life! You’ll hear a “bookish moment of the week” from each host: an author event, kid librarians, and a fantastic iTunes review. Next, we discuss our current reads for the week. We are each talking about two recent reads and we’ve got a variety of new titles that we cannot wait to discuss this week. For our deep dive, we are discussing our very favorite picture books for the 2-5 year old range. These kids are enraptured by great pictures, willing to sit for a great story, and ready to laugh at great jokes, so we’ve chosen some stand-out titles to share with you or the littles in your life. Abbey has a lot of great expertise in this area, so we are only too happy to have her input. As always, we finish up with A Book (yep, capitalized) that we’d like to press into every reader’s hands. We’ve got a childhood favorite, which may not be for kids, that has been read over and over again, a WWII novel told in a totally new way, and a reference book that belongs on every parent’s shelves. As per usual, time-stamped show notes are below with references to every book and resource we mentioned in this episode.

Mary Anne Pohlreich was 27 years old. She moved to Bellevue to study computers and was working as a telemarketer. She shared an apartment with a friend.Mary Anne had a strict Christian upbringing, and she was kind of relishing her newfound freedom. She began frequenting a night spot- not the Black Angus, but a place called Papagayo's.There she would sip drinks with friends, chat with other partiers and dance the night away.On Friday, June 23, 1990, she got dressed and hit the club with a couple of her girlfriends.Liquor flowed, music played, and dancing ensued. In fact, Mary Anne had personally requested MC Hammer's song "U Can't Touch This" at least 5 times. She was having a lot of fun and I'm pretty sure that more than a few of you can relate to the club scene in the 90s. Music from https://filmmusic.io"Nervous" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com)License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) From  Music from https://filmmusic.io"Day of Chaos" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com)License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) From  Jet Fueled VixenMusic from https://filmmusic.io:"Jet Fueled Vixen" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com)Licence: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/true-crime-by-the-book/exclusive-content
