Send us a text about your favourite films relating to the episode. This episode as Ti West rounds off his 'X' trilogy with Maxxxine, a neon soaked eighties, Brian De Palmer inspired thriller. We acan on;t be talking about one women, the lead of all three films, Mia Goth. So we will be talking about our favourite films of her career, who frankly is just getting started she's that good. To join me talking all things Goth is a returning guest, former B-Critic, Liz. Now called Liz & A Movie. Warning we will be talking SPOILERS. It's Liz's turn to go first and she is going for one Mia Goths earlier films, A Cure for Wellness. On this one we talk about, well what went wrong. We talk about why Mia Goth is under used and why Dane DeHaans character just feels like a side character in a lead role and why the poor guy just looks so tired all the time. We talk about why the whole, there could be something in the water questions where just to obvious and not subtle. Plus we talk about lots and lots of eels. Welcome back to Collectors Corner hosted by ThoseMovieDudes. It's the show where one of us dusts off a film from our physical media collection, put it in the Blu-Ray player to watch, and then we get together to discuss what we liked, didn't like, and why the hell we bought the film in the first place. We'll also take a look at those Special Features most people skip over and talk about what we learned about the making of or any other fun facts you might not have known. This week we're back to Nate's picks and he went with the bonkers psychological thriller A Cure For Wellness. Give the film a watch and listen to our discussion as we try to break down this critically panned but beautiful mess of a film. Editors - Craig Wood ACE and Dylan Tichenor ACE Editor Craig Wood ACE returns once again to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and this time he brought the formidable talents of Oscar®-nominated editor Dylan Tichenor ACE with him. Despite their extensive careers and wide variety of credits, ETERNALS marks the first time that Dylan and Craig have co-edited together. It's also the first film, possibly for any editor, where the director (Chloe Zhao) received an Oscar® nomination for Best Film Editing (NOMAD) while their current film was still in post production. CRAIG WOOD ACE While ETERNALS is Craig's fourth film with Marvel, following GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (2014), GAURDIANS OF THE GALAXY - VOL.2 (2017) and ANT-MAN and THE WASP (2018), most of Craig's own "cinematic universe" has been with director Gore Verbinski. Together they made the films; MOUSEHUNT (1997), THE MEXICAN (2001), THE RING (2002), THE PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL (2003), THE PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST (2006), THE PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN: AT WORLD'S END (2007), THE WEATHERMAN (2005), RANGO (2011), THE LONE RANGER (2013) and A CURE FOR WELLNESS (2016)...just to name a few. Craig even cut MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL (2019) along with editor Laura Jennings, who appeared on THE ROUGH CUT when that film came out. DYLAN TICHENOR ACE In addition to his work on ETERNALS, Dylan has done a number of films with many acclaimed directors. Most notably with director Paul Thomas Anderson on films such as BOOGIE NIGHTS (1997), MAGNOLIA (1999), THERE WILL BE BOOD (2007) and PHANTOM THREAD (2017). And when he wasn't working with Paul Anderson, he was doing BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN (2005) with Ang Lee, ZERO DARK THIRTY (2012) alongside editor Billy Goldenberg ACE for Kathryn Bigelow, UNBREAKABLE (2000) for M. Night Shamalan, THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS (2001) for Wes Anderson and THE TOWN (2010) for Ben Affleck. Dylan received Oscar® nominations for his work on ZERO DARK THIRTY as well as THERE WILL BE BLOOD. Cure For Wellness (2016) An ambitious executive is sent to an idyllic "wellness centre" to retrieve his company's CEO. What a pleasure to speak with Jenny Beavan, a two-time Oscar-winning costume designer whose credits include SHERLOCK HOLMES, MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, and Disney’s newest release CRUELLA (starring Oscar-winner Emma Stone). In today’s conversation, Jenny and I discuss a wide range of topics: an in-depth chat on the design of MAD MAX: FURY ROAD; the hypnotic costumes of the 2017 thriller A CURE FOR WELLNESS; how she re-invented the iconic Disney villain CRUELLA, with the new film set in a punk-rock London of the 1970s. We're celebrating big budget body horror this week on the podcast by revisiting two of the most bonkers movies that ever slipped through the cracks of some of Hollywood's biggest studios. Actress and designer Mariko Enkoji-Busch joins us to discuss the 2000 Jennifer Lopez thriller "The Cell" and the more recent studio bomb "A Cure for Wellness" from "The Ring" director Gore Verbinski. Are we just nostalgic for studios writing blank checks to visually ambitious directors to take their big swings or were the critics completely off base for these hard R thrillers? And more importantly, what does it mean to be a "cummy actor" and who is the cummiest of them all? There's only one place to find out. "The Cell" is streaming with ads on Tubi and available to rent wherever you rent movies. "A Cure for Wellness" is available to rent on iTunes and all the usual rental streaming apps.
When your eyes become open to such a bizarre inconceivable world, can you ever truly go back to what you knew before? In this psychological mystery, we follow Lockheart who is tasked with going to Switzerland to bring back an executive from a wellness facility. However, what transpires is much more than a simple mission and it may just involve a lot of eels. A film that has so much to offer from set designs, overall shots, and tension building that it's a shame it wasn't more recognized. As always, there are some things that just seem to drag on but as long as you don't drink the water, everything will be alright.
