Welcome to the Ecomm Breakthrough Podcast. I'm Josh Hadley. I've scaled my own e-commerce brand from 0 to 8 figures, and I'm actively building towards nine figures in sales. This podcast is where I document that journey and share the systems, the strategies, and the lessons learned in real time so that you can learn what actually matters and scale your own business. Most founders think that they know exactly where their time is going. However, when you conduct a two week time study, 90% of entrepreneurs are blown away with where their time is actually being consumed in the business. And oftentimes it's not in the places you want your time being consumed in the business. Most of the time, you're stuck in the thick of thin things. That's not providing a high ROI in the business. My name is Josh Hadley. First and foremost, I'm a man of faith.Josh Hadley 00:00:56  I'm a husband to a beautiful wife and the father of four children. I've been selling in the e-commerce space for over a decade, selling multi-million on sales channels such as Amazon, TikTok, Shop and Shopify, and I am also the host of the number one business strategy podcast for ecommerce entrepreneurs. That's E-com breakthrough. Today, I'm going to be sharing with you the details about this two week time study, which is one of the best tools to magnify your output and be able to ten x the efficiency and the growth inside of your business. So why is a two week time study so important? And why do I do this on a regular basis? By the way, I do this myself at a minimum every six months, and when things are really moving along quickly, I'm doing it every 90 days. If the business is scaling fast, the reason why you want to conduct a two week time study is because the founder's time eventually becomes the ceiling for your growth as a business. This is going to provide you with a framework for seeing whether your behavior in the business is actually matching the business that you think you are trying to build? Way too often I hear people are saying, oh yeah, I'm all focused on growth.Josh Hadley 00:02:02  But then you show me your two week time study, and then I find that most of your time is spent in administrative work, doing manual routine things that aren't actually driving results in the business, but it's just kind of keeping things afloat. That's not what you want to be focused on. And this is something that applies to CEOs, and this applies to entry level workers that are doing routine administrative work as well, because I believe that everybody in any role needs to take an honest look and self-assess. Am I spending my time on the right levers in the business that are truly going to provide an ROI, a return on your investment, or your time? Let's dive into why this is so vital for a CEO that's building a business. When you're a CEO and you're a founder and you're crossing that $1 million mark in revenue, it's honestly the hustle that has gotten you to where you are today, and that ultimately will become a ceiling. If you're not able to delegate and identify a system as to how you generated that first million dollars in revenue.Josh Hadley 00:03:02  You're never going to scale to that next level, whic...

Jenny Lei is the founder of Freja, the cult-favorite vegan handbag brand that you've probably seen on Hailey Bieber, Sarah Jessica Parker, and all over your feed. But here's what you might not know. Jenny started Freja with no fashion background, no design experience, and no investors. She funded it herself with money she made from a dropshipping business she built after Googling "how to make money fast online" because she had to pay for her life living in NYC. She launched a work bag brand out of her New Jersey apartment in February 2020, weeks before the entire world stopped going to the office. She signed up two thousand people to an email list, sent her launch email, and didn't get a single sale. And she was doing all of it on a visa, with a clock ticking on whether she'd even get to stay in the country. Today, Freja is a multi-million dollar brand and one of the most talked-about names in the space. In this episode, Jenny gets really honest about the slow years nobody talks about, why she believes growing too fast can actually be a curse, and the moment she broke down crying in an airport because she'd been holding the entire business together by herself, with no systems underneath her. We talk about the difference between selling products and creating a brand, how intuition is built through failure, and learning to separate who you are from the company you create. She also opens up about burnout, the systems and team she built behind Freja, and what it was like to step into the spotlight after years of hiding. If you're in one of those quiet, slow seasons right now — doing everything right, waiting for it to pay off — this is the conversation you need to hear.In this episode, we'll talk to Jenny about:* Why growth should be measured by learning, not just revenue. [02:37]* The downside of growing too fast without understanding why it worked. [03:58]* Growing up with curiosity and the freedom to explore new interests. [04:05]* Navigating identity after moving between China and the United States. [06:00]* How a vegan Instagram account became an early entrepreneurial venture. [06:58]* Separating personal identity from the business you build. [09:08]* Why the business should work for you—not the other way around. [10:00]* From Cornell graduate to Googling how to make money online. [13:55]* Learning the fundamentals of online selling through dropshipping. [15:22]* The difference between selling products and building a brand. [17:05]* Creating Freja after failing to find the perfect work bag. [19:25]* Using naive optimism to design a product without a fashion background. [20:25]* Launching just before the pandemic and facing an immediate setback. [24:25]* Why volume, consistency, and paid ads fueled early growth. [26:02]* The gradual rise of Freja and the success of the Chrystie collection. [27:58]* Reaching a turning point and finally viewing the company as a real business. [29:07]* Burnout, team growth, and learning how to build systems at scale. [31:17]* The marketing channels that mattered most from startup to scale. [35:23]* Stepping into the founder spotlight and sharing the story behind the brand. [37:48]* How journaling became the most impactful business tool. [42:33]* Using ChatGPT and the Socratic method for better decision-making. In this episode of the Programmatic Digest, Hélène Parker and Assetou Kone dive into the evolving role of AI in programmatic advertising and campaign optimization. The conversation explores how media buyers and traders can use tools like ChatGPT and Claude to streamline workflows, analyze campaign data more efficiently, and uncover deeper optimization insights. Hélène opens the session by reframing optimization as more than simple "bid up, bid down" tactics. Instead, she explains how successful optimization requires hypothesis testing, strategic thinking, and understanding how DSP algorithms redistribute spend based on performance signals. Using practical examples, she demonstrates how removing underperforming inventory can improve overall campaign efficiency by reallocating budget toward higher-performing placements. Assetou walks through the fundamentals traders need before introducing AI into their workflows, emphasizing the importance of understanding campaign objectives across awareness, consideration, conversion, and loyalty stages. She explains how campaign goals directly influence which metrics traders should prioritize and optimize toward. The heart of the workshop focuses on prompt engineering and practical AI usage. Assetou demonstrates how traders can use AI to analyze site lists, identify inefficient domains, generate allow/block lists, surface top-performing inventory, and extract geo-level insights tied to real-world audience behavior. She also highlights how combining AI-generated insights with industry knowledge creates stronger strategic recommendations for clients. Throughout the discussion, Hélène and Assetou address common fears around AI and job security, explaining why traders who learn how to leverage AI tools will become more valuable — not less. They close by discussing the future of agentic AI within DSPs and how automation can help traders spend less time buried in spreadsheets and more time focusing on strategy and insight generation.

You ask ChatGPT how many calories you should eat, it gives you a number, and you follow it. It sounds scientific. It feels like you're doing something right. But here's what nobody's telling you: the formula ChatGPT uses doesn't know your hormones, your thyroid, your stress, your sleep, your diet history, or how well your body actually converts food into fuel. It uses four variables to calculate a number that should require at least twelve. And then there's the other problem — ChatGPT is trained to agree with you. If you've been going down a low-carb path, it's going to hand you a low-carb plan. Not because it's right for you. Because it's designed to mirror back what you already believe. In this episode, Stephanie breaks down exactly why AI-generated calorie and macro calculations miss the mark for women in perimenopause and beyond — and shares what she found when she put ChatGPT's meal plan directly into MyFitnessPal.

What happens when global policy decisions collide with the realities of the shop floor?  In this episode of MakingChips, the team sits down with Brennan Grignon, founder and CEO of Vantive, to unpack the hidden complexity behind supply chains that power everything from defense systems to everyday manufacturing.  With experience advising at the highest levels of government, Brennan brings a rare perspective on how geopolitical decisions ripple all the way down to machine shops across the country. At the heart of the conversation is a hard truth: supply chains are not as flexible as policymakers often assume. Moving production isn't like flipping a switch—it's a tangled web of materials, processes, certifications, and human expertise that can take years, not days, to shift. And yet, those decisions are being made every day, often without a full understanding of the downstream consequences. The discussion dives deep into the structural challenges facing the defense industrial base, especially for small and mid-sized machine shops. From cash flow constraints and unfavorable payment terms to the rising cost of compliance like CMMC, many shops are being asked to shoulder burdens that simply don't make financial sense. The result? A system full of opportunity, but also friction, risk, and misaligned incentives. Despite the challenges, there's also a sense of possibility. With advancements in digitalization, predictive modeling, and better visibility into supply chains, there's a path forward. But it will require collaboration, smarter policy, and a willingness to rethink how the entire ecosystem works, from government to primes to the shop floor. We have Daniel Schlagwein on the show, who is what Germans call a "Tausendsassa:" He is both a practitioner and researcher of digital nomadism, the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Information Technology, and president of the AIS special interest group on Grounded Theory Methodology. We touch upon all three of these aspects, but at the core we want to know from Daniel whether generative AI tools are automating grounded theory and thereby eliminate what used to be at the heart of a humanistic and constructionist approach to doing research – or are they merely leveling the playing field for qualitative field researchers by giving them computational support matching those tools that quantitative researchers have had for a long time. Daniel argues that it depends on the specific flavor of the grounded theory method you are using to determine whether and how you can leverage generative AI for such research. Let's talk about AI—because I know some of you are curious, some of you are already using it constantly, and some of you are like, “absolutely not.” All fair.In this episode, I'm sharing how tools like ChatGPT can actually support an ADHD brain in real life. Not as a replacement for your thinking, your relationships, or your treatment—but as something that can hold your thoughts, help you get unstuck, and make it easier to follow through when your brain is overwhelmed. Because when you have ADHD, you're carrying a lot all at once, and having something that can help you organize, process, and respond in the moment can be a game changer. We also talk about the concerns—because they're real. AI isn't perfect, it can be inaccurate, and it shouldn't replace human support. And at the same time, when used intentionally, it can be a powerful, low-barrier tool that helps bridge the gap between knowing what you want to do and actually doing it.If you've ever felt stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward, this episode will open your eyes to a new kind of support that's available to you right now.Watch this episode on YouTubeWant help with your ADHD? #825 The robots are coming for your customers — and most home service businesses have no idea. In Part 2 of this two-part conversation, Brien and Phil dive even deeper into the future of AI for home service businesses, covering everything from AI-powered avatars and digital twins to virtual estimating tools that are already reshaping how contractors win jobs. Phil breaks down why maintaining a steady flow of online reviews is more critical than ever in the age of AI search, how business owners can start building their own custom AI knowledge hub using tools like Delphi or Google's NotebookLM, and why creating content now — even if you never post it — is essential preparation for the AI-driven future that's already arriving. The conversation also tackles the evolving ads landscape, including why Google and Yelp still dominate bottom-of-funnel leads while Meta's targeting capabilities are rapidly advancing, and why the businesses that pair smart AI adoption with genuine human connection will ultimately win out over fully automated competitors! What we discuss with Phil: + AI avatars and digital twins + Virtual estimating with Live Switch + Building a custom AI knowledge hub + Why online reviews still matter + 21% of bookable jobs lost to AI agents + Google & Yelp still dominate bottom-of-funnel + Meta's rapidly advancing ad targeting + Human connection vs. full automation + Creating content now to future-proof your business + Using ChatGPT to generate content topics Thank you, Phil!
