The influence of the great medieval mystic Ibn ‘Arabi is immeasurable, reaching from his home city of Murcia in Andalusia to Aceh in Indonesia and just about everywhere in between. His teachings similarly try to encompass, or at least articulate, the unfathomable depths of being, both human and divine, together with the links between God's ultimate being and our own contingent existence. Whereas Ibn ‘Arabi's terrestrial life played out between Seville and Tunis in his early career and Mecca and Damascus in his later years, his spiritual life unfolded through encounters with saints and prophets in the ‘imaginal world' (or ‘alam al-mithal) that was central to his cosmology. In this episode, we trace this double life and summarize his doctrines at large. We then turn to his two most famous works, the Futuhat al-Makiyya (‘Meccan Revelations') and Fusus al-Hikam (‘Ringstones of Wisdom'), to unravel the key concept of huwiyya (literally ‘He-ness'). Nile Green talks to Ismail Lala, author of Knowing God: Ibn ‘Arabi and ‘Abd al-Razzaq al-Qashani's Metaphysics of the Divine (Brill, 2020).

A national Muslim spokesperson says threats that forced two Auckland Islamic schools to close today are shocking - but not surprising. Māngere's Al-Madinah School and Zayed College for Girls closed, and access is limited to New Lynn's Iqra primary school. Police are investigating a threatening email. Federation of Islamic Associations spokesperson, Abdur Razzaq says Government moves to relax national security put more than schools at risk. "It's not just us - with the globe looking how it is now, it could happen to any of us, or another school, it could happen to a synagogue, a community centre, a women's centre...there are important lessons from this." Welcome back to the podcast, I'm Jamie Baynes. This episode's guest is Taqdees Razzaq, an entrepreneur, life coach and a firm believer in empowering women to be the best that they can be. A representative of Taqdees reached out to me and asked if I would like to have her on an episode. Well of course I would, so here she is. I hope you enjoy our conversation and after you listen to it, let me know what you think of Taqdees. Personally, I loved what she said about negative energy versus positive energy, but what really moved me was her description of her gratitude journal. I think it's such an amazing idea to write down (10) positive things every DAY! Incredible. It's so simple, but makes so much sense. Give it a try.I'd like to thank Taqdees for coming on the podcast and hope she continues to spread joy and positivity wherever she goes.I hope you do, too.Until next time, take care of one another and thanks for listening. You can check out more of Taqdees at the links below:https://www.instagram.com/taqdeesrazzaq/https://www.instagram.com/wow.meem/https://www.instagram.com/letscomeforward/https://www.taqdeesrazzaq.com/
Changes to the Christchurch Call are being welcomed by the Muslim community. The initiative's becoming a charitable foundation and will no longer rely on taxpayer funding. It will continue its mission to reduce online extremism but is no longer linked to the governments of New Zealand or France, which founded it in 2019. The Federation of Islamic Associations NZ chair Abdur Razzaq told Andrew Dickens that the government isn't pulling their support, but rather it was a natural transition for the organisation. He said that it's not about whether the new structure is better, but rather what services it can provide now that it couldn't before. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

H., Manis, P. B. Abstract: Bushy neurons of the cochlear nucleus encode temporal fine structure and modulation of sound with high fidelity. However, the synaptic maps and electrotonic structures that underlie these properties are not specified in meaningful explanatory detail. We employed modern volume electron microscopy techniques to provide exact data on the numbers of synaptic inputs and their weights determined by the number of contained active zones, and the surface areas of all postsynaptic cellular compartments. Leveraging these high-resolution images, we discovered cabling of dendrite branches and new structures within dendrites, and identified non-innervated dendrites. We extend current nanoscale connectomic studies with methods to export cellular reconstructions into morphologically-constrained, biophysically-based predictive computational models. We reveal both coincidence detection and mixed supra/subthreshold modes of input convergence across the bushy cell population and show subthreshold inputs contribute to enhanced temporal encoding even in the presence of suprathreshold inputs. We demonstrate the variation of dendritic load and axon parameters and their importance in controlling excitability as potential homeostatic mechanisms, thereby defining heterogeneity in stimulus-evoked responses across the BC population. One of the primary recommendations by the Royal Comission following the March 15 Christchurch mosque attack was the establishment of a new national intelligence and security agency. However, this agency which would be named NISA, is yet to be created. Casper spoke to Abdur Razzaq from the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand about what this agency is and why community advocates are questioning the government's hesitation on the matter.
