In recent years, technological advancements have permeated various aspects of outdoor sports, and skiing is no exception. The introduction of electric skis, particularly the innovative E-SKIMO, is revolutionizing the skiing experience by significantly enhancing uphill performance. This breakthrough technology combines the principles of electric bicycles with ski mountaineering, allowing skiers to ascend slopes with unprecedented ease and efficiency. How do Electric Skis Work? The core concept behind electric skis is to provide assistance that empowers skiers during uphill climbs. Traditionally, ski mountaineering, also known as ski touring or "skinning uphill," requires considerable physical exertion and stamina. However, with the integration of a battery, motor, and sophisticated sensors, E-SKIMO drastically reduces the effort needed to ascend. According to the developers of this technology, skiers can expect to travel uphill four times faster than they would with conventional skis. This remarkable speed enhancement is a game-changer for both recreational skiers and serious mountaineers, enabling them to explore more terrain in less time. The mechanics of the electric ski system are equally impressive. Each ski is equipped with a motor that drives a rotating belt, providing traction as the skier ascends. This innovative design allows for synchronized movement, with the motors communicating to ensure a smooth and efficient uphill experience. The lightweight construction of the components is another significant advantage, as skiers can detach the battery and motor once they reach the summit, reducing the burden during the downhill journey.Standing Out in the SnowOne of the most compelling aspects of electric skis is their ability to adapt to varying snow conditions and terrain. The E-SKIMO employs artificial intelligence to analyze factors such as snow type, slope steepness, and skier weight. This data-driven approach allows the skis to deliver power in a controlled and natural manner, maintaining balance and stability. The algorithm behind this technology is designed to ensure that skiers do not lose control due to excessive power, which is a critical consideration in a sport where balance is paramount.Durability is a key concern for any outdoor equipment, and the developers of E-SKIMO are focused on ensuring that the system can withstand the rigors of use. While the longevity of the belt system is still being evaluated, the aim is to make it last for several seasons, allowing skiers to enjoy the benefits of electric assistance without frequent replacements. The excitement surrounding electric skis is palpable among enthusiasts. Early users have reported positive experiences, with many expressing eagerness to return to the slopes and test the technology in fresh snow conditions. The potential for electric skis to enhance the skiing experience is not just about speed; it also opens up new possibilities for exploration and adventure in the mountains. Conclusion: An Unepected Way to Ski Using AIIn conclusion, electric skis represent a significant advancement in skiing technology, particularly for uphill performance. By combining electric assistance with sophisticated algorithms and lightweight design, E-SKIMO allows skiers to ascend mountains with greater speed and ease than ever before.

For today's episode of the Travis Macy Show, we're mixing it up in two parts! First, I'm giving an overview of the world of ski mountaineering, or "SKIMO" as it's often called—one of my favorite activities for building fitness and having fun in the winter. A while back I had some stellar chats with my friend Mike Hagan, who runs Hagan Ski Mountaineering, and today I'm sharing a few clips from those conversations. You'll learn everything you need to know if you're just getting started or looking to improve your skills. Whether you're a runner, cyclist, or multi-sport athlete wanting to mix in some backcountry skiing or SKIMO racing, this conversation has you covered. Then, in part two, I'm shifting gears to something I've been working hard on: my new novella, THE RUNNER. It's coming to you in serial audiobook format from Christmas to New Year's, and in this episode, you'll get a preview. THE RUNNER tells the story of Carp, a middle-aged man navigating the ups and downs of life in the Rockies. With themes of endurance sports, psychology, love, loss, and more, it's a quirky, unique tale that I'm excited to share with you. Stick around after the schema discussion to hear an AI-generated preview of the novella—I think you'll find it fascinating! Lenker:NEDA-hjørnet på Fjellsport.noFøkk Asfalt PatreonSupport the show

Kilian Jornet Quite possibly the best mountain athlete we have seen in this generation with a versatility unrivaled by most in the field he has chosen to compete in. Kilian is in a class of his own winning some of the toughest mountain ultra races on earth from the UTMB to Western States and Hardrock his record is unparalleled but the amazing part of his performance is his versatility moving from long distance mountain ultras to short trail races like Zegama, Sierra Zinal, and even Vertical KMs is unparalleled in this field. Not to mention being an accomplished Skimo racer and mountaineer summiting Mt. Everest in record fashion twice among a list of other fast ascents around the globe. Kilian does literally everything in the mountains and he does them well! It would be a disservice to Kilian if we only talked about his Athletic achievements because a lot of what makes him a truly special athlete and member of this planet is his connection to nature and the mountains. It feels deeply personal when you talk to him about his work on climate change, preserving the wild spaces in which he derives so much joy as well as a source of his livelihood and turning his fame into activism and advocacy something a lot of athletes shirk from for fear of losing sponsorship or being bashed online. Kilian has used his position and fame to push for a better planet for everyone and that is clearly shown in his goals each season minimizing air travel to lower his carbon footprint and choosing to live a life which is much lower impact on the land and the planet. This advocacy filters into every aspect of Kilian's life and family from his racing schedule all the way to the new shoe and outdoor brand he has set up Nnormal which at its core has some very unique values -longevity -he raced in one shoe all season in 2022, designing for emotional product sustainability a unique term we discuss in this conversation and value. Happy New Year everyone and welcome to episode 56 of the Eat for Endurance Podcast. Today, we're tackling the topic of Winter Sports Nutrition, featuring Kylee Van Horn, RDN. Kylee is a sports dietitian based in the mountains of Colorado, regularly works with winter athletes in her private practice, FlyNutrition, and is a runner and winter athlete herself. Although I used to ski when I was young, I haven't done much more than sled down a small city hill in recent memory, so I invited Kylee on the show to discuss the many unique nutrition challenges that winter athletes face, and to share her expertise on how to fuel smartly and adequately in these conditions. We had a great chat filled with tons of useful information and winter fueling tips, including:What happens to your body in extreme cold or at high altitude, and how does this affect your nutrition and hydration needs? What types of strategies can you utilize in these environments, to stay well-fueled and hydrated?Logistical issues that make eating and drinking more difficult relating to winter sporting gear (e.g. trying to fuel while using poles)Differences that arise from one winter sport to the nextWhy remaining well-fueled and hydrated is so important to performance AND safety when in the mountainsAnd much more!If you engage in winter sports or want to in the future, get ready to take some notes! Chilean voters recently rejected an extremely progressive (and extremely long at 170 pages) constitution. It would have ensured animal rights, as well as rights to “neurodiversity” and “digital disconnection.” Ted Piccone of Brookings and the World Justice Project examines if Chile's new constitution was too progressive or just too long. Plus, can't we just enjoy the moment when the President went asking for a dead lady? And in the Antwentig, mo' Skimo than you ever hoped for.
