This episode is a Victory Monday like no other, as Andy's Bears lost on a true Hail Mary as time expired against Brendan's (adopted) Commanders. Brendan is so excited that he got the yips on opening the episode, leading Andy to introduce the show. Andy, still in disbelief at the loss, recaps his weekend, calling the Bears the worst coached team in football and explaining where he was for the end of the game. The two laugh at the fan-shot video of Bears corner Tyrique Stevenson taunting fans before tipping the ball into Noah Brown's hands for the win, but Andy takes solace in the fact that the Bears won the second half. PJ is asked to recap the Jets-Patriots game, as the Jets dropped their fifth straight game. The Jets managed to find a new rock bottom, losing to former Browns QB Jacoby Brissett, New England's backup. Speaking of Browns quarterbacks, Jameis Winston led the Browns to a big divisional win over the Ravens, leading all NFL passers on Sunday in yards, something that Cleveland hasn't seen much of this year. There is golf discussed on this episode, as Nico Echavarria won the Zozo overnight, holding off Justin Thomas in the final group. Andy and Brendan discuss a promising finish for JT, a potential breakout for Echavarria, and the future of a Japan stop for the PGA Tour with the Zozo contract expiring. Next, they talk through Ben An beating Tom Kim in a playoff in the Genesis Championship in South Korea, giving props to An for his success on the PGA Tour without a win yet. Brendan is in on the LPGA's Race to CME, a season-long standing that's tightening up after Ruoning Yin's win in Kuala Lumpur. To close this episode, it's a lengthy Champions Tour Minute as the field is set for the Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Phoenix. PJ sets the stage for his trip out west, where a club pro from Long Island has secured full status on the PGA Tour Champions for next year after a strong performance in Arkansas.

This Monday episode starts with an apology from Andy on behalf of the entire crew, as no Champions Tour picks were given ahead of the SAS Championship. Andy and Brendan are joined by Producer PJ to then recap Jerry Kelly's win in the final regular season event, coming just a week after he withdrew due to arthritis. PJ also chimes in with an update about Ángel Cabrera's status for the Schwab Cup Playoffs, leading to a spittake from Brendan. With the Champs Tour wrapped, Andy and Brendan then recap Matt McCarty's win at the Black Desert Championship. They talk through McCarty's path to the PGA Tour, winning three times on the KFT but hanging around those events into the summer in order to lock up the No. 1 spot on the points list rather than getting PGA Tour starts. This leads into a discussion about the need for more Korn Ferry Tour grads playing during the FedEx Fall, as this year's group will not get to play on the PGA Tour until January now. The two also wonder about TV ratings for the Black Desert, which was deemed a "fun event" on a new, different course for the PGA Tour, and how the pace-of-play issues can be fixed after another Saturday morning cut. A mid-episode Swag Sports Minute recaps a big Bears win in London, another Browns loss, and the possibility of a Mets-Guardians World Series beginning next week. To wrap things up, Andy and Brendan give props to Dan Bradbury for his win at Le Golf National, and recap the Buick LPGA Shanghai, won by Ruoning Yin.

We kick off Episode 164 with a look back at the enthralling first Cricket test between England and Sri Lanka, that looked to be in the balance until Joe Root's unbeaten 62 secured the win for England. This was after wicket keeper Jamie Smith had hit his maiden test century in the first innings  At St Andrew's it was the Women's Open Golf, where New Zealand's Lydia Ko triumphed in a very close final round, not only beating rivals Lilia Vu and Ruoning Yin  but also gale force winds to win by 2 strokes to add the Open title to the Olympic Gold she won just two weeks earlier. Olympic champions were also in action in Athletics' Diamond League events-with Jakob Ingebritsen getting revenge on Olympic gold medal winner Cole Hocker in the 1500m in Lausanne, before going on to beat the men's 3,000m record in Silesia. This record had stood for 26 years. Meanwhile the pole vault record of Armand DuPlantis had not even stood for 26 days before he broke it again, adding another centimetre to take the record now to 6.26 metres.  In football we pay tribute to former England manager Sven Goran Erikkson, who sadly passed away aged 76, after a long battle with pamcreatic cancer. We also have then surprise news of England winning a football World Cup on penalties, after the Men's Over 75 team beat hosts Wales on spot kicks. However Wales were triumphant later in the day as their over 70's team won their tournament, with a shoot out win over a team from the USA.  And this week's Get a Grip pours scorn over the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) after they doubled down on a ruling that means if Paralympians could face disqualification from events and annulment of medal results if they have a tattoo of the Olympic Rings showing. The ruling basically bans the Olympic logo at the Olympics. Madness!

NBA – Victor Wembanyama is the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft, with expectations of stardom Victor Wembanyama is the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft, headed to San Antonio with enormous expectations to become basketball’s newest sensation. The selection of the 19-year-old from France that had been a foregone conclusion for months was announced by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver on Thursday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Wembanyama arrives with far more height and hype than most No. 1 picks. Listed at 7-foot-4, he dominated his French league in his final season there, leading all players in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots. Brandon Miller of Alabama was the No. 2 pick by the Charlotte Hornets and Scoot Henderson went third to the Portland Trail Blazers. NBA – Pistons, Pacers banking on lottery selections to provide immediate help on defense The Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers used lottery picks on players who should make their biggest early impact on defense while the rest of the Central Division teams sat out the first round of Thursday’s draft. Detroit selected wing Ausar Thompson of the Overtime Elite developmental program with the fifth overall selection. Indiana took Houston forward Jarace Walker, who went eighth. Both the Pistons and Pacers ended up with two first-round picks. The Pistons added Houston guard Marcus Sasser and the Pacers landed Belmont forward Ben Sheppard later in the first round.   The Pistons received some tough luck in the lottery when they got stuck with the fifth pick despite having the NBA’s worst record at 17-65. But they believe they found a keeper in Thompson.  The Bulls traded into the second round with Washington to acquire Tennessee forward Julian Phillips at No. 35. NBA – Jett Howard follows his father Juwan’s path from Michigan to NBA lottery pick Jett Howard can only hope he keeps following in his father’s footsteps as he goes from Michigan to the NBA. He joined his father Juwan as an NBA draft lottery pick Thursday night. Juwan still has bragging rights as the fifth pick overall in the 1994 draft out of Michigan. His son went at No. 11 overall to Orlando after playing his lone college season for his father at Michigan. Jett credited all the time spent learning from his father on and off the court for preparing him. The two-time NBA champ played 1,208 games over 19 years with eight different teams. NBA – Bulls expect Lonzo Ball to miss another season because of left knee injury The Chicago Bulls expect point guard Lonzo Ball to miss another season because of his left knee injury. Executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas says the Bulls do not expect him back next season. He says it “would be great” if Ball does return in 2023-24. Ball hasn’t played since Jan. 14, 2022. He had a cartilage transplant in March, his third operation on the knee in a little more than a year. Karnisovas said Ball stopped using crutches last month. NBA – Chris Paul traded to Warriors, Jordan Poole sent to Wizards, source tells AP Chris Paul’s pursuit of an NBA championship is taking him to the Golden State Warriors, after they agreed to the framework of a trade on Thursday that will send Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards, according to a person with knowledge of the matter. The trade also includes a package of draft capital, said the person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade has not been finalized and approved by the NBA. MLB – Major League Baseball Yesterday Tigers, Cubs, and White Sox were off Tonight Minnesota (Maeda 0-4) at Detroit (Wentz 1-7), 6:40 p.m. Boston (Bello 4-4) at Chicago White Sox (Giolito 5-4), 8:10 p.m. Cubs are off MLB – Overturned outs prompting confusion, frustration over blocking-the-plate rule The rules have changed since Bob Melvin and Bruce Bochy were big league catchers when big collisions with runners trying to score were just part of the game. The rules are intended to protect catchers. But runners are now sometimes safe even after being tagged out and without any collision. San Diego manager Melvin and Texas manager Bochy both had outs recorded by their teams this week become runs after replay viewed that their catchers obstructed the runner. Both managers were irate because their catchers were standing when they made sweeping tags.
