In this episode, host Scott Doucet and cohost Josh MacKenzie go in depth on their relationships with their fathers. Josh kicks off the episode discussing his father and the impact he’s had on his life. They talk about what was there, what was missing, and how Josh navigated that as a child and into adulthood. Scott follows up by talking about the contrasts between his biological father and his stepfather, and how both men helped shape the man he became. This episode goes into the good the bad and the ugly of growing up with their dads.

Welcome to Fathership. This week looks a little different than the previous episodes because we are doing an Ask Me Anything! I’m welcoming previous cohost from the Edge-ucation Podcast and longtime friend (and father of 4) onto the show to answer your questions! We sourced too many questions from our social media to answer in one shot, but we covered as many as we could and will definitely be back for round two. I chose Josh to cohost with me again for multiple reasons: One, we’ve got chemistry. Lots of it. Two, He’s never hesitated to tell me what he thinks of me, bad or good. Three, he and I could not have different lives if we tried, and I feel like that gives us a broad range of experience to speak from. This one goes into some pretty serious (and some not so serious) topics, so buckle up for one hell of a ride. 2 surprise questions to break the ice from one cohost to another. What does it feel like to be a dad? What is your least favorite part of parenting? Have you sacrificed your dreams for your children? How did you feel when you first held your firstborn in your arms? What is the craziest thing you’ve done for your daughter that your younger self would have never done? What is something you take very seriously that your partner doesn’t? How do you navigate that? Do you let your kids in on household finance or allow them to live in “bliss”? What does it mean to be a father to Josh “I was a dad really young and I still wouldn’t change it for anything.” - Josh “I’m proud of my children, I’m proud of my family, I’m proud of the man it’s turned me into” - Scott “The hardest part of being a dad is watching other dads fail their children” - Scott “It rubs me the wrong way to see other dads take this job so lightly” - Scott “The Grinch’s heart grew three sizes in that moment” - Scott “I didn’t think I would be that type of parent” - Josh “As a parent you have to set clear guidelines” - Josh “Scott 10 years ago would not have given up sex for any woman on earth” “Anywhere that I have been unselfish, my family has thrived” - Scott “I want to raise nothing short of Gentlemen” - Josh ‘If my parents kept me 100% from money, I would have never found that interest” - Scott “Right now, my family and my kids are the many, and my needs are going to come second to what they need” Join us on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/groups/fathership/
What's up? Scott Doucet here. I'm pretty much living the life of my dreams. I married the girl of my dreams, I have my dream car, I live in a house in my hometown that I own. I have a daughter and a son on the way and at the time of recording this trailer Things could not be more complicated Because as it turns out, when you achieve the life of your dreams, the work isn't over. You now have to work hard to maintain those dreams, to nurture the relationships you build, to grow beyond the person you are right now, to be the person who deserves to hang on to everything you've worked to accomplish, and to be the person who can truly enjoy everyone and vetting around them. That is now the person I am trying to grow to be. This is that Journey. The Fathership Podcast is all about growing into the role of dad, growing into the role of husband, growing into the role of home owner, growing into the role of community leader and being the best business owner I can possibly be. It's not going to be easy. Quite frankly, this is the hardest thing I'm ever going to do. It won't only be the victories we share. We'll be talking about the struggles, the addictions and the things we have to overcome. I'll be talking to Dads, Moms, and experts from around the globe about their experiences with fatherhood, parenting, relationships and life in order to grow and to help you grow into the best versions of ourselves we can possibly be. What’s up! Welcome to another episode of the TrepTECH podcast! In this episode, Host Airial Re’nal and her trusty sidekick Scott Doucet hit the mics to discuss Entrepreneurial Loneliness. The higher you climb, the less people will be able to relate to you, and as the famous saying goes: It’s lonely at the top. Things like a lack of family support, friends dropping off, and the obstacles of running a business in general can really add up, and without the proper pieces in place, these things can break you down. Airial and Scott share their experiences with loneliness running their online businesses, and how they’ve been able to turn things around for themselves! If you’re someone who is starting to see the fruits of all of your hard work, and have no one to share it with, or you’re just starting your business and people are acting some kind of way about it, aren’t supportive, or have just completely ghosted you? This episode might be one for your ears The underwhelming support from friends and family for new businesses Taking the time to find the right people to call friends The obstacles of running an online business Building the support system The “Entrepreneur” identity can cause loneliness. Be a person first The benefits of having an actual team in place Remember where you came from, but you don’t need to remain there The cure for Entrepreneurial Loneliness Airial Quotes: “I knew my family and friends weren’t going to patronize my business” “Understand That people don’t always have the same vision as you. They don’t have the same understanding” “I can’t do without a coach” “A regular job is so safe” “When you’re around those people, it is absolutely amazing” “It’s about the choices we make” “Just because you’re a solopreneur doesn’t mean you have to do this solo” Scott Quotes: “What gives you the right to do this?” “I’m getting beaten down since the very first day I started” “Entrepreneurship is this gradual path of alienating yourself from the regular, average, everyday person” “I’m not here to encourage people who aren’t meant for this” “It’s not better, it’s just different” “Don’t think you have to buy your family or friend’s approval” “We cause our own loneliness in a way” “Just because someone doesn’t support you now, doesn’t mean they won’t eventually” Airial Links Airial's Facebook Profile The Veteran Woman Rebel Revolution Blog TrepTECH Academy TrepTECH Facebook Profile TrepTECH Bonus Features Talk to Airial One-on-One Scott Links www.podcastbay.net (Click “I already have a podcast”) Scott's Facebook Profile Scott's Instagram Profile Podcast Bay Facebook Group Find TrepTECH Podcast on the Below Podcast Apps/Podcast Player Apple Podcast (Apple Only) Castbox.FM (Android & Apple) Libsyn Disclaimer: Select links are affiliate links
We hear the word “entrepreneur” a lot, but there is a lot of confusion on what it means. Are self-employed people entrepreneurs? Scott’s Definition: An entrepreneur is a business owner or someone who is working toward that. Airial’s definition: An entrepreneur is someone who finds a missing link in services and comes up with an idea to fill that gap. Our hosts share stories about themselves and their peers displaying the entrepreneurial spirit. They discuss some universal characteristics found in entrepreneurs and how they differ from others or the wantrepreneur. They discuss how entrepreneurs and business owners have the ability to step away and everything still gets done. Airial and Scott are both entrepreneurs who know your life becomes your business and vice versa. They discuss a myriad of topics some of which may be considered taboo and all of which are intended to see you succeed. During this episode, our guests tackle a subject that is a source of pain and frustration for many entrepreneurs, freelancers, and artists of different types: unsupportive partners. Airial shares a personal story about a partner’s complaints about her being in business. Scott makes a great point: Do you/they love what you/they are doing? Are you/they miserable? Do we need a cheerleader and support system from our spouses/partners? Common complaints: This is taking up all your time You’re never here You’re here but you’re not here You don’t go to bed when I go to bed You’re up too late at night/up too early/ - sleep too much/too little Bills/household needs Attention Pointers: Figure out what support looks like to you! Write it down If you don't know what you want, we can expect our partners to fulfill that Do you actually need support from your spouse? Can you get this from someone else Team? Business partner? Friend? What’s your track record? Tried starting a million businesses, never got them off the ground? Your wife Shouldn’t support you. Want-trepreneur Boy that cried wolf Airial Quotes: “I’m trying . . . Sometimes it takes working all night, late nights.” “What do you absolutely have to do and what can wait?” “I could be performing at 100% at all times, but the second I dip to 99% I think they’re all going to know.” “I delegate in polite suggestions.” “In previous relationships, I found they wanted to distract me.” “I don't need a cheerleader. Tor [Mrs. Doucet] is not my biggest fan at all.” “She [Mrs. Doucet] is my trampoline. When I hit the ground, she bounces me back up. No, you’re not quitting. No, I need you operating on all cylinders right now.” “There is no one person on Earth who can be everything you need.” “Support shows it’s face in a lot of different ways.” Airial Links Airial's Facebook Profile The Veteran Woman Rebel Revolution Blog TrepTECH Academy TrepTECH Facebook Profile TrepTECH Bonus Features Talk to Airial One-on-One Scott Links Scott's Facebook Profile Scott's Instagram Profile Podcast Bay Facebook Group Find TrepTECH Podcast on the Below Podcast Apps/Podcast Player Apple Podcast (Apple Only) Castbox.FM (Android & Apple) Libsyn

Welcome to the TrepTECH Podcast hosted by the dazzling Airial Re’nal and hilarious sidekick Scott Doucet. When you strip everything away, you’re here because of your business. If you’re starting up you have questions and concerns. If you’ve been in business for a while, perhaps you’re experiencing some issues. Turning to Airial and Scott will never lead you down the wrong path. Could be you need extraordinary tips and strategies. Could be you enjoy listening to our hosts tell their stories about their own and some times intertwined entrepreneurial journeys. What you can expect out of both Airial and Scott is brutal honesty and a hand extended to help. TrepTECH is all about making business fun and successful no matter what that means or what it takes. In this episode, Airial and Scott get started talking about e-mail headlines as they begin the process of e-mail automation and what piques people’s interest to open your email. Scott discusses he likes short, snappy headlines followed by humor, lists, and pop culture references. Email body must tie into the headline, for Scott. Airial can take or leave that. Email should also sell or send the reader somewhere. Both Airial and Scott talk about being a part of Marc Mawhinney's e-mail list and how engaging the emails are. (and how he send one every day without annoying the recipients.) They also describe the headlines of Dan Meredith as being show-stopping. Two of Scott’s favorite email headlines: Why be a Hero When you can be a Villain? Heroes are reactive. It’s the villain of the story who has a goal, a plan, execution, and investors. Ya Don’t Know What Ya Don’t Know, Ya Know? Scott shares the story of his highest email open rate was with a smiley face headline: :] He goes on to say anything that makes people say, “Huh?” or “What’s that about?” works beautifully. What causes you to open your email? Topics that can make grabbing headline: Song lyrics Politics Universal human experiences Things that feed people’s need to be nosey/drama Emotional responses Scarcity Done right: This is the Only Webinar I’m Doing This Year Questions Things to consider when creating a headline: Who is your audience? Don’t make ‘oops’ emails ‘Hurry’ & ‘limited time’ emails often backfire (clickbait) Airial Quotes: “Make sure your emails match your brand’s voice.” “How do you have limited seats on an online webinar that isn’t live?” “You’re always selling. It’s just how you do it.” “Write in a conversational tone because that gets them into the moment and it sounds like you’re talking directly to them.” Scott Quotes: “The thing about a template is, you don’t want to follow the exact template just because it’s worked for other people. You want to adapt it to work for you.” “Subject line: Banana Hammock.” “It’s important to look at headlines as what’s going to impact my audience that makes them click?” “Don’t put limited seats during a webinar. It’s a digital conference room. Stop it. Stop. You’re lying to me. That’s not real scarcity. That’s false scarcity. “If thoughts were lily pads.” Join Podcast Bay’s Mailing List! www.podcastbay.net (Click “I already have a podcast”) Airial Links Airial's Facebook Profile The Veteran Woman Rebel Revolution Blog TrepTECH Academy TrepTECH Facebook Profile TrepTECH Bonus Features Talk to Airial One-on-One Scott Links Scott's Facebook Profile Scott's Instagram Profile Podcast Bay Facebook Group Find TrepTECH Podcast on the Below Podcast Apps/Podcast Player Apple Podcast (Apple Only) Castbox.FM (Android & Apple) Libsyn
Welcome to the TrepTECH podcast hosted by the one and only Tech Angel, Airial Re’nal. Scott Doucet co-hosts inserting truth bombs and comedy along the way. You’re here for real, honest talk on real topics surrounding the entrepreneurial and business world. Nothing gets diluted during the TrepTECH recording sessions and you won’t believe some of the things our hosts take on as topics. This show is an excellent resource for any level of business owner. You’ll stay for the tips, strategies, stories, and chemistry between Airial and Scott. This is your new favorite podcast for successful entrepreneurs. In this episode, Airial allows Scott to steer this ship and he directs it toward the dicey waters of technical problems and solutions. Which is brilliant because Airial is a technical specialist. They discuss some of the tech failures they have both experienced and how it affected them as far as momentum or cause for any major setbacks. Types of Tech Fails: Forty minutes of an amazing episode occurred when they realized they had not been recording Scott calls it the best episode that was never recorded Plugging in but, are not able to hear each other during sales calls Systems for payment Systems for taxes Systems not working right Landing pages (sales funnel) Leading an email list Leading to a sales page Thank you page Client fulfillment We need to trust other professionals and experts to do what they do. Don’t waste hours and energy you could be used to promote, record, edit, make money, doing something you can have someone else do for you. (especially if they are on your team already) Scott discusses how he creates landing pages: Post-it note Crude drawing Holding it up to webcam Letting Airial do it for him Scott lays out one of the biggest reasons people don’t start a podcast, or even their business in the online space because they’re paralyzed by the fear of not knowing how to produce the technical side of the business. This can be the greatest weakness and a detrimental one. Airial jumps in, adding she tests out many different platforms, making sure they are user-friendly for situations just like this. Experts want to share their knowledge. Scott describes a time he put a call for help on Facebook and had dozens of people answering with fixes. One of those people was TrepTECH’s own Airial! Typical tech concerns: How do I set up an e-mail campaign? What’s the best platform to use for landing pages? What’s the best service for transcriptions? What’s the best online video meeting platform? How do I using editing software? Airial makes it clear cut by explaining when you take your time and try to do something you don’t know you could end up losing money yourself. Why not go ahead and pay someone who will do it quicker and save the extra money? It is imperative that you know your own strengths and weaknesses so you can assess when to reach out for assistance. It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg because the specialist may be able to fix it within a matter of minutes. Airial Quotes “It can be scary and overwhelming.” “I have back up plans for back up plans for back up plans.” “Servers crash, computers go slow, noise in the background . . . it happens. Just call me.” “Just send it to me. I’ll fix it.” “Tech is amazing. Welcome to the TrepTECH podcast hosted by the beautiful, soulful accountability partner you need, Airial Re’nal and her co-host and often the seed of comedy, Scott Doucet. TrepTECH is disproving the myth that business has to be boring. In fact, if your business is boring, something’s wrong. There’s no topic too controversial or taboo for these two hosts because they know if something holds that kind of weight, it deserves to be spoken about. Both Airial and Scott are coaches and business owners. They have tons of experience, strategies, tips, and fun stories of their ups and downs to share with you. This podcast is a love letter and awesome show in support of entrepreneurs. In this episode, the topic of conversation is Identity. Our hosts briefly touch on the last episode about race and business, which you can listen to here before moving on to this episode’s topic. Often we change the way we behave and speak based on who we’re talking to or based on who we think we’re supposed to be. Airial discusses going as far as hiding behind a personal brand when she got started. Scott says he often felt pressured to change because he has always been the face of his business. He asks Airial what prompted her to hide behind brands or make changes to her businesses. Airial delivers a truth bomb and says, “because I’m a black woman.” Airial goes on to explain the scripted content she created received the least views and likes. This was a vast difference than when she took a more raw, real, and natural approach. Scott confesses about the difficulty and pressure in his life with his marriage, business, fixer-upper house, and being a parent. There is a lot of love and also obstacles. He goes on to say he doesn’t post much about it, but it is also not something he avoids talking about with friends and during interviews. But, the important thing is that he no longer plays it cool when something is happening in his life because it is important that your client knows you need more time because something is going on in your life. This isn’t considered instability. It’s honesty and the ability to complete the tasks that have been given to you. In other words, stop being wrapped up in the perfect image on social media or concocting the perfect image that gets you clients. Airial pipes in and agrees with Scott, going as far as sharing Facebook lives in brutal honesty. What’s up with Identity? Being yourself Not being what you think people want/need Fake energy is palpable Don’t allow insecurity to bury you Reality is relatable Strategic The universal human experience Universal experience to your gender Universal to your race/nationality Universal to your religion Universal to business owners Niching down distracts from relatability Airial Quotes “I had a struggle of what is my identity and how does that affect my brand.” “Stop overthinking it . . . I remind myself just be me because that’s what people love about me is that I’m just me.” “You see everything about my life. There’s always one person that says, ‘Man, you just saved my life.’ or ‘I want to reach out to you because I feel like you understand and are not going to judge me.’” “I showed up. I’m not dressed up, but I’m here.” “If it’s out there and I put it out there, there’s no shame. No one can use it against me.” “Somebody is always going to judge you.” Scott Quotes “Bottom line, strip away everything else, you’re here for business.” “This is one bright candle and there are a lot of plates spinnin’” “A lot of the world is out there to watch you burn.” “Never missed a deadline, but came d**n close.” “When Tor (Mrs. Doucet) posts pictures on Instagram about our life, our house in shambles, updates on Scotland (baby girl), breastfeeding and what have you . . . people eat it up. They like it.” “[My coach] told me I was going to have to clean up. Wear a suit and tie. I did and it was a nightmare. I hated it. I felt like a circus animal jumping through hoops.” “No one’s going to like the real me. I’m vulgar. I’m crude. I’m sweet. I’m nice. I’m direct and I’m weird. I thought people would reject the real me.” Airial Links Airial's Facebook Profile The Veteran Woman Rebel Revolution Blog TrepTECH Academy TrepTECH Facebook Profile Talk to Airial One-on-One Scott Links Scott's Facebook Profile Scott's Instagram Profile Podcast Bay Facebook Group
The TrepTECH podcast is here to prove business doesn’t have to be serious all the time. It’s okay to laugh and smiles as long as you’re putting the work in to achieve your goals! Hosted by the stunning Airial Re’nal and her trusty sidekick Scott Doucet, TrepTECH is here to bust open the floodgates on every facet of business - not just the numbers. Both Scott and Airial share their personal stories of successes and failures in the entrepreneurial journies so far. You are not alone! Get settled in and get ready for a wild, informative, unconventional show about business. Your mind is about to be blown wide open. Trigger warning and disclaimer: in this episode, Airial and Scott welcome Keenen Smith as an impromptu guest to discuss the very sensitive subject of racism and classism in business. This may be a sensitive and difficult topic for some listeners. Please be advised. Scott, Airial, and Keenen each have different experiences as it comes to racism. Airial is a black female. Keenen is a black male. Scott is a white male. Scott discusses what Keenen calls ‘inside racism’ is the only kinda he is familiar with while both Keenen and Airial have experienced what is described as ‘in your face’ racism. What does that mean for business though? Keenen has experienced sending in a white person to close deals for his business even though his name is the one on the check. Airial has experienced black business owners/customers exclaiming that she is ‘trying to be white’ by using proper grammar. Airial has experienced when working with a white business partner that they each approached those of their own race in order to make a sell. Scott describes not being able to get black clients most of the time. Keenen and Airial talk about racism inside their own race. They speak of dark and light skin tones as well as proper grammar and ebonics. They give examples of what can happen in business with each of these concerns. Kennan also describes using an alias instead of his real name during business transactions. Scott throws down a gauntlet and discusses the differences in racism and classism stating that he, as a lower middle-class white male, has experienced some of the same things that Airial and Keenen have described earlier. What’s the difference? Classism: prejudice against or in favor of people belonging to a particular social class. (social status) Racism: the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races Scott describes clients turning away from him for being white, covered in tattoos, not dressing up, and not speaking in an extremely professional way Airial Quotes “Okay, so, first of all, there’s this meme goin’ around Facebook like, ‘I may be ghetto, but my customer service voice went to Harvard.’ It’s about how we change how we talk depending on who we’re talking to.” “Another thing that got me was because I spoke properly I would get . . . I would get pushback. My friends would say or my classmates would say, ‘Oh, you’re tryin’ to be white. You’re tryin’ to act white. You’re talking white.’ That kinda thing.” “A woman asked me before, a black woman, she’s a veteran, and she has a nonprofit and she asked me, being black, in Georgia, in her town, wearing braids . . . if she should pretty much have a stock photo representing her nonprofit or if she should have her face there.” Scott Quotes “To be completely fair and I think it’s a fair assessment to say that I’m fairly naive on the topic of racism.” “ I do, really do, think that racism looks different depending on where in the world you are. Like, racism in Africa is gonna look different than racism in Europe is gonna look different than racism in Canada.” “I grew up broke and I know of black families that grew up so much more wealthy than my family did. “ Keenen Quotes “If you make the culture believe it’s okay, it’s okay. You make it acceptable everywhere.” “We’ve divided ourselves amongst ourselves because some of us are trying to change things and some of us are trying to look within and try to understand like, what is the problem? You know? “ “that’s a part of our culture where we have . . . we have to actually separate ourselves in our own races to be able to live comfortably. That’s a horrific fact. It’s serious business.” “I had a brand--a business and went by an alias. It’s even my personal brand now. The brand was Xpro brand, but I never put my face on it and the reason I never put my face on it is I was perceived as a black hustler” Check Out The TrepTECH Academy www.treptechacademy.com Airial Links Airial's Facebook Profile The Veteran Woman Rebel Revolution Blog TrepTECH Academy TrepTECH Facebook Profile Talk to Airial One-on-One Scott Links Scott's Facebook Profile Scott's Instagram Profile Podcast Bay Facebook Group Keenen Links Keenen's Professional Facebook Profile Keenen's Wesbite Keenen's LinkedIn Profile
Welcome to the TrepTECH Podcast hosted by the Fabulous Airial Re’nal. Co-hosted by the self-proclaimed button pusher, Scott Doucet. The TrepTECH podcast is here to teach you about business and show that business doesn’t always have to be a serious thing. Entrepreneurship can be a jarring experience, but as long as your ‘why’ is worth it, you’ll endure. Airial and Scott are both experienced coaches as well as entrepreneurs themselves! They are happy and fired up about helping their listeners learn about business! In this episode, Airial flips things around and interviews Scott, asking him to talk about his beginnings in the business world. (Scott interviewed Airial on this topic in episode two - check that out!) Scott has been producing podcasts for Airial for at least 3 years and has also worked in the capacity of a coach, consultant, marketing and so much more. Scott has many talents and a lot to offer to anyone who is truly willing and passionate to learn. Scott begins by giving a rundown of the types of jobs he has had. He started working as a radio personality/producer when in high school. He was in a band doing the recording, producing, marketing and merchandising. While working many retail jobs he noticed that he consistently got promoted to leadership positions which made him uncomfortable as an introvert. His supervisors took notice of his skills as a motivator and a person who could systematically get things done and yet failed to recognize his distaste for it. So, he would get a job, get promoted, quit and start the cycle all over again. You get to hear a funny story about quitting a job by throwing the store keys in his boss’s face. Quickly he knew he was going to have to do something to survive. Scott discusses his beginnings as a mohawk having, skinny jeans wearing punk kid with the desire to reach out to the youth as a motivational speaker in high schools under his first brand Edge Motivation. His coach, Marc Mawhinney, recommended doing podcasting as a living, breathing resume that could be sent to principals and schools to preview before hiring him to speak. Scott tirelessly worked under his coach learning podcast production and business. In doing so he started his business, Podcast Bay Productions, and within the last two years has hired a team to work with him doing production editing and writing. Scott: “What purpose do I serve?” “I’m friendly. I’m nice. It takes me a lot to not hit people at Walmart.” “You can close your own damn store!” “It felt so amazing! Like I could take over the world, but just for a couple of days ‘til I ran out of food.” - on quitting his last job. “I’m going to start a business. I’m going to inspire people. I’m going to teach them work ethic. I’m going to teach them how to do everything they need to succeed!” “A coach fills in blanks when you thought there was a complete sentence before.” “You’ve got the painting tool. You can change the pictures.” Airial: “He’s not antisocial. He’s just an introvert.” “The beauty of having a coach is they can see the bigger picture and help you realize what you can do and set it into play.” Airial Links Airial's Facebook Profile The Veteran Woman Rebel Revolution Blog TrepTECH Academy TrepTECH Facebook Profile Talk to Airial One-on-One Scott Links Scott's Facebook Profile Podcast Bay Facebook Group Instagram

He and Cheryl describe their first impressions of podcasting, and what they thought initially, before learning about the business and marketing potential of it. Cheryl asks Scott if this was the first youth based podcast he's worked on, and he let's her know that it's actually his second. His first was his former show, the Edge-ucation Podcast. Scott tells Cheryl why he loves Kids Party Characters and why he wanted to be part of this project so badly. The joy it brings Children is incomparable, which makes it an awesome heart centered business to be part of. He also shares his only superhero birthday, and how it felt to have Batman show up to celebrate with him, and the interrogation he put the actor through to see if he was really Batman. In this episode of Smart Leaders Sell, Jess brings back Podcast Producer Scott Doucet to talk about a membership sales blunder he's made! Actually, in the spirit of full transparency, Jess scheduled 4 other guests to record this week and all of them got the same sickness and had to reschedule, so Scott has arrived as an afterthought, but luckily: he always has a sales problem in need of a solution! Scott recently launched a membership community for podcasters and aspiring podcasters to get better at their craft, promotion, and monetizing. He has offered his membership out for $1 for the first month, and one person has signed up. His sales question: Why is no one signing up, and where do I go from here? Jess starts off by congratulating the one person who has signed up, and explains that it's difficult to get people to sign up to membership sites because they have an aversion to signing up to anything low cost. She explains the psychology behind why that is, and mentions that Scott has no problem selling higher ticket services. Jess asks Scott where he feels he went wrong, and he explains that he didn't really believe in the price, and felt it should have been a higher dollar value right from the start. She asks about a few different strategies that Scott normally uses, and asks if he's done them for this offer, and the answer is a strong No. Jess shares her strategy for the benefit of not only Scott, but those of us who are listening in with plans to launch our own membership sites. She shares that when she initially launched, her site was not complete. She describes her process and the cost she launched at, as well as offering the reason why. She also talks about why paying customers approached her and told her to charge more. She tells Scott what happens when he devalues himself, and the ripple effect that has throughout his audience. He comes to the abrupt and painful realization that he's training people into a behavior that doesn't match the attitude that he actually wants them to have. Jess also explains the difference between Scott's community versus the one's he used as an example for this offer. Jess goes on to share that the best salespeople don't necessarily have dominant personalities, but they do need to be told to buy. She goes on to tell Scott why confidence is necessary, and why his offer actually showed the exact opposite of confidence. Quotes “They assume that they'll get what they pay for” “I made the coupon code ROBBERY because that's what it feels like” “I wanted people to buy when it was incomplete so I could test it and tweak it” “We have this mentality, especially in the online business space, where we think 'Build it and they will come' and that doesn't actually work” “I have a goal to make my community the richest podcast community in the world” “I made it happen because I wanted it to happen that badly” Links www.Podcastbay.net More Jess: https://www.facebook.com/groups/FabulousFemaleEntrepreneurs/ https://jessicalorimer.com/supersize-your-sales https://jessicalorimer.com/list-building-legend Content Disclaimer The information contained above is provided for information purposes only. Alexa welcomes the producer of Kaleidoscope radio, Scott Doucet onto the show today! Scott a Podcast producer, consultant and host of the show Podcast Bay. His brand, which shares the name of his show, aims to educate people about podcasting and how to get the job done effectively, with quality and purpose at the forefront. When Scott first got into producing podcasts for other business owners, he found it to be rather boring and flavorless, but once Alexa came along with the idea that was Kaleidoscope Radio, a world of sexy and exciting audio possibilities opened up within his production journey and he was more than happy to accept the challenge. Alexa congratulated Scotty on his soon to be family and they talk back and forth about how freaked out both of them are by children and the concept of having kids. Scott talks to children like they're tiny adults, and the idea of having children scares the crap out of him. He also explains that sex has become a little weird for him since his wife got pregnant because it almost feels like he has a tiny audience at all times. Scott and Alexa chat back and forth about their different upbringings, and how that impacted their lives and lead them to who they are today. Scott explains that his relationship with both of his parents is very open, and he can talk to them about anything, even if it's sex related. Scott brings up a jaw dropping moment on Kaleidoscope Radio that led him to learn that he actually has limitations to what he wants to experience sexually. They talked about Alexa's search history, and a talk that she did at a crypto-currency event about sexual deviancy. The chat leads to censorship within the media, and Scott voices that it was, and continues to be one of his biggest obstacles and concerns for the production aspect of Alexa's show. Even though she can say whatever she wants to on the air, it becomes a little difficult when writing descriptions and titles, because there is a limit to how open these things can be on places like iTunes. Alexa and Scott circle back to talk about the Kaleidoscope as a community, and how Scott is a little jealous of Alexa for having such an awesome group of supporters behind her. Scott also brings up how he was a bit worried about how his editor was going to adjust to working on Kaleidoscope Radio because of the open approach to subject matter, but that it ended up becoming his source of sexual education. Scott expresses his appreciation for both Alexa and her guests for putting out a show that helps people ease into situations and learn about them before actually having to experience them first hand and potentially have a bad experience. Scott gets into some of the podcast episodes that he has particularly enjoyed working on and listening to, and why. He also talks about why working on the show has given Scott's job a lot more meaning and purpose than it had in the days before Alexa's show his his desk. Alexa also shares her most nerve wracking interview and why she was so nervous behind the mic while she was talking to that particular guest. Finally, to close out this episode of the show, Alexa allows Scott to flip the script and ask a question of his own. He decides to ask Alexa if she's as open as she is accepting of others, or are there things she just won't do? “Every moment of my life whether I knew it or not was leading me up to working in the audio industry” “Have you ever had that moment when you walk into a room and realize you're the coolest kid there?” “I was obsessed with my tally-whacker from the moment I knew it existed” “I did not know I had hard limits until I heard your show” “The last thing I want to do is censor you” “we want something that makes us feel like we matter, and that our job matters, and gives us meaning and validation and this show does that for me” “Acceptance is everything”
Host Afeez Kay welcomes Canadian guest Scott Doucet to the show to talk about electric cars. Scott comes from New Brunswick, a rural area of Atlantic Canada that is “behind the times” when it comes to technology, research and development in general, let alone in the electric car department. Scott admits that his knowledge of electric vehicles has come largely from Top Gear, and that he's only ever seen one charging station in his entire province, and it's 3 hours away. The first Question Scott throws at Afeez is: without the infrastructure in place, how can electric cars become more of a reality? Afeez greets the question openly, and shares that the vast majority of EV owners charge their cars at home, and the range they get with their electric vehicles is more than enough to get around, and still have time to make it back home before needing to recharge. He explains that electric cars have a great range for running errands and normal day to day use, but when long distance driving is considered, that's when infrastructure becomes a necessity. Afeez inspires a ton of questions from Scott after his initial explanation, and Scott's line of questioning then encompasses the Hybrid. He mentions that Hybrids appear to the best of both worlds, but never caught on. He wants to know if that was because they were a half measure, or did something else get in the way of their effectiveness. Afeez explains that there are advantages and disadvantages of owning a Hybrid, and is more than happy to break them down for us. Scott brings up the climate where he lives, New Brunswick is freezing cold for 6 months of the year. He asks Afeez how the cold impacts the battery within an electric car. Afeez recounts a story of a skiing trip he took, and how his electric car battery withstood the cold. He also disclosed some statistics about which temperatures are best suited for EV's. Afeez and Scott discuss the potential of low emission zones being introduced to places like London, and the death rate attributed to air pollution within larger cities. He even reference a move that Paris has made in introducing a No Car Day, in an attempt to curb air pollution. Scott asks Afeez about “The Afterlife” of an electric car, and how they can be used or repurposed beyond their initial use as a vehicle. Afeez explains the concept of Second Life and how EV batteries can be used after they've run their typical lifespan to accomplish other electricity related tasks. He also talks about the Car to Grid system found in the Nissan Leaf, and explains that the car itself can e used to power things when power is not accessible. Scott takes this opportunity to ask about Tesla, and what it is that makes Tesla stand out among all of the other electric cars on the market. Afeez replies by talking about the fact that Tesla is more than just a car company, they are a clean tech company, and as a result, they take things a step further than most conventional car companies who produce electric cars. Tesla's range of thinking goes beyond the cars, and include the infrastructure as well as the energy storage components. He describes the supercharging network, and how it gave Tesla a major leg up against the competition as far as ease and accessibility. Quotes “90% of the time, we charge at home” “The infrastructure needs to be there for long distance” “The cost of ownership is considerably lower than having a normal internal combustion engine car” “You have two power trains, which means you now have twice the amount of things that can go wrong” “Cold weather does effect a lithium-ion battery” “80 or 85 percent of the world population can now start switching to a form of electrification which would reduce enormously our dependency on fossil fuel” “People are dying, and their lives are being shortened as a result of air pollution” “Electric cars have less moving parts, so there's less things to fall off” “Range is King” Links: Rent a Tesla in the UK: https://www.teslarentals.co.uk It's Electric! Jess is joined today by none other than her producer and Podcast Bay's very own Scott Doucet. You know that Scott she keeps talking to on the recording? Yeah. That clown. He produces podcasts for a living and has seen a lot of people disillusioned when it comes to a podcast's role in the sales process. He and Jess laugh about the various podcast shenanigans that have taken place since the launch of Smart Leaders Sell, and Jess also describes the hilarious sales call that she had with Scott when she was thinking of hiring him. His question: How do Podcasts Convert to Sales? Jess starts off by explaining the role of a blog, podcast or other traffic generation tools, and compares a podcast to the sex-on-legs guy or girl at the club. She goes on to talk about driving traffic, and making offers. She shares a few ways to get that done, and then gives an analogy about boyfriends that Scott can't relate to. She draws it all in together by talking about her mum, and how she's ultimately wrong about human behavior Jess slams cannon ball sized holes into Scott's theory on selling from podcasts, and offers a story to reinforce how it can be done. She also goes on to describe a basic funnel, and why it's crucial to make offers to an audience who are used to being sold to. Jess shares a few more insights regarding selling, and nurturing the kind of audience who wants to buy, and how putting yourself in the sales friend zone is a bad idea. Finally Scott shares his own traumatic bird stories in reference to Jessica's episode titled: Geese! Quotes "You're the industry's best kept secret" "Shut up and take my money" "Their job is only to generate traffic, your job is to retain them and sell to them" "Even industry leaders like to be given a clue what to do next" "When you give a clear call to action, people will actually do it" "You'd be amazed by the number of people who want to listen to your podcast, but don't want to join a FB group" "You have to manage the expectation of your audience" "Remember tot rain people to buy" "If you are passive and you let them be passive, nothing will ever get done" Links www.podcastbay.net FB Group Content Disclaimer The information contained above is provided for information purposes only. Feminism with Scott Doucet Scott Doucet is a Podcast host, consultant and producer. With a background in radio, music, and sales, Scott is keen to help podcasters and aspiring podcasters make their shows stand out from the rest. Founder of the community Podcast Bay, and host of a show by the same name, Scott spends the majority of his time editing and producing shows for clients, and educating himself and others about what makes a solid podcast. Summary Dana asks Scott about the feminist rabbit hole he found himself in, and what made him want to get on the show to talk about feminism as a topic. Scott explains how he's come to view the spectrum of Misandry and Misogyny, and what he feels is a whole lot of confusion surrounding the objectives of certain movements. Dana and Scott relate back and forth about hatred toward genders, and Scott shares a story about a time he was treated poorly for holding a door open for someone, and Dana does her best to explain why she feels these things happen in modern society. Scott then relates an issue that he and his wife discussed about the right to work, and the judgment that follows if a woman decides not to work in modern times. Dana flips judgment on it's head, and talks about the way society almost forces people to fight for things instead of granting them as given. She and Scott also talk about masculine and feminine energy, about stereotypes, and about what would potentially happen if people stopped trying to fit in and just did what came naturally. Quotes “In doing podcasting, I know what makes a good show, and controversy never hurts” “On either end of the spectrum you have all of this hate and disrespect, and then in the middle everything seems so confused.” “Why are we bashing kindness?” “We have so much hurt in our culture, in our DNA” “Is equality really worth the cost of harmony?” “The only way I'm going to get something is if I fight for it.” “Who knows what would be possible if we stopped trying to fit into the current boxes.” “Fighting for a right shouldn't be fighting for the right to do only that” Links Facebook Www.facebook.com/scottdoucetpodcast www.facebook.com/podcastbay Snapchat: ScottDoucet Instagram: Scott_doucet See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Prepared to get motivated as we bring Scott Doucet to the PodUp Podcast. He is the host of the Edge-ucation podcast. It’s a show focused on helping folks live a motivated, adventurous and passionate life. The reason we are excited to bring Scott on is that he actually took his digital show and is now getting on the radio. It’s a fantastic story about how he made that connection and there’s a lot you can learn about your venture from hearing it. We also check out some news that came out last week suggesting that a television series is in the work about the hit podcast Serial. This would be another huge boost to the podcasting world and something we would be very excited to see.
