Sales calls can bring out the sleaziest people, and we’re not talking about the salesman! Sometimes you sell to someone, form a client relationship, and realize that you created a nightmare for yourself once it’s too late! We’ve all been there, done that, and bought the T-shirt. In this episode of the TrepTECH Podcast, Airial asks Scott to talk about a live video he posted in the TrepTECH Collaborative. In the video, Scott describes (in great detail) all of the terrible people he’s encountered over his 3 years of doing sales calls. Airial also pulls up experiences from her own sales journey in order to shed even more light on the existence of these people. You may have encountered them, you may have dodged them, you may be one of them. Tune in and find out!   How do Airial and Scott get along so well even working so closely together? Where professional partnerships, coaching relationships and friendships go wrong. Why Scott is ruthless to people who try to “partner up” on sales calls about his podcast production services. World of Warcraft, Call of Duty and even Trip Advisor have something very big in common. Do you know what it is? They’ve all mastered the art of gamification. If you’re unsure of what gamification is, essentially, it’s the ability to create something that people have a ton of fun engaging with, and feel rewarded for interacting. Think of your favorite card games, board games and even video games: do you have fun when you play? Do you have even more fun when you’re the winner? Most of us do, and while not all games are competitive, contests and competitions can be a great way to get people motivated to engage with your business. They aren’t the only way to make your followers and friends feel great about participating in your stuff, so tune in and find out more interesting ways to gamify your business!   How a golden hamster awakened Airial’s competitive nature. The reward structures and instant gratification that comes from video games. What kinds of gamification could possibly be worked into TrepTECH  Why was World of Warcraft so all-consuming? Trip Advisor’s ranking system and why it’s so brilliant. You can’t be a level 100 Entrepreneur without starting at level 1. Super simple ways to gamify your stuff.   Airial Quotes: “While we’re sitting here talking about what we should offer, we should just ask” “Ask your audience. If you haven’t done the thing, you better not be selling it to people! That’s what today’s episode is all about. There is an epidemic of under qualified and inexperienced people and in online business taking advantage of people who don’t know any better. People are claiming to be experts at things that they’ve only just learned about, or have a really basic grasp on. People are buying programs and courses and copying the material without any knowledge of how it actually works in application. People are preying on the excitement of new entrepreneurs, or the desperation of the frustrated ones and leaving them feeling ripped off and in some cases hurting. This has to stop. On today’s episode of the TrepTECH podcast, Airial and Scott blow the whistle on some of the garbage they’ve seen happening in the online business space, and reinforce the age old belief that if you haven’t experienced something, you can’t sell it.   In This Episode: Even if someone gives you the secret sauce, it won’t taste as good as when they make it. What is the difference between using someone and leveraging your relationship with them? Getting to know your clients needs before pitching them a product or service. If you’re going to claim to be an expert, your footprint had best reflect your claims. Just because you can scramble an egg doesn’t mean you should sell cooking classes. Creating that portfolio to show potential clients.   Airial Quotes: “I’m big on leveraging relationships. Mutually beneficial relationships.” “How do you leverage word of mouth? It’s by having integrity and serving your clients” “I want people to have this feeling when they come in connection with this brand” “I tell them my journey and the things I’ve learned throughout my journey” “I really do know what I’m doing and I do it with integrity. I need to stop playing small” “I think we beat this horse to death”   Scott Quotes: “If I’m going to share something with someone, it’s going to benefit their clients. Big time.” “I’m not about churning out non-professionals” “I’m not going to give people half the equation and then watch them go rip off or hurt a bunch of people” “Not everyone is worth working with” “You need to be honest about where your skills are at and what you can do for people” “You have to have something to show” “Don’t try to run a marathon if you’ve never even run a mile” Airial Links Airial's Facebook Profile  The Veteran Woman Rebel Revolution Blog  TrepTECH Academy    TrepTECH Facebook Profile TrepTECH Bonus Features  Talk to Airial One-on-One     Scott Links www.podcastbay.net (Click “I already have a podcast”) Scott's Facebook Profile Scott's Instagram Profile  Podcast Bay Facebook Group    Find TrepTECH Podcast on the Below Podcast Apps/Podcast Player Apple Podcast (Apple Only) Castbox.FM (Android & Apple) Libsyn

Airial and Scott are both entrepreneurs who know your life becomes your business and vice versa. They discuss a myriad of topics some of which may be considered taboo and all of which are intended to see you succeed.   During this episode, our guests tackle a subject that is a source of pain and frustration for many entrepreneurs, freelancers, and artists of different types: unsupportive partners. Airial shares a personal story about a partner’s complaints about her being in business. Scott makes a great point: Do you/they love what you/they are doing? Are you/they miserable? Do we need a cheerleader and support system from our spouses/partners?   Common complaints:   This is taking up all your time You’re never here You’re here but you’re not here You don’t go to bed when I go to bed You’re up too late at night/up too early/ - sleep too much/too little Bills/household needs Attention   Pointers: Figure out what support looks like to you! Write it down If you don't know what you want, we can expect our partners to fulfill that Do you actually need support from your spouse? Can you get this from someone else Team? Business partner? Friend? What’s your track record? Tried starting a million businesses, never got them off the ground? Your wife Shouldn’t support you. Want-trepreneur Boy that cried wolf Airial Quotes: “I’m trying . . . I’m trying really hard not to rant right now.” “It got to the point where we broke up.” “If I’m tossing and turning, I might as well be doing something productive.” “I need a Tor in my life” “I need to work to make money to pay the bills, but when I’m working you’re still angry.” “I couldn’t support my clients because I was always miserable.” “I’m willing to compromise and make time.” “It’s about finding your team.” “There are a lot of failures on the road to success.” Scott Quotes: ‘I’ll harass you, but you need it!” “Wondering what it takes to run a business? Welcome to the TrepTECH Podcast hosted by the dazzling Airial Re’nal and hilarious sidekick Scott Doucet. When you strip everything away, you’re here because of your business. If you’re starting up you have questions and concerns. If you’ve been in business for a while, perhaps you’re experiencing some issues. Turning to Airial and Scott will never lead you down the wrong path. Could be you need extraordinary tips and strategies. Could be you enjoy listening to our hosts tell their stories about their own and some times intertwined entrepreneurial journeys. What you can expect out of both Airial and Scott is brutal honesty and a hand extended to help. TrepTECH is all about making business fun and successful no matter what that means or what it takes. In this episode, Airial and Scott get started talking about e-mail headlines as they begin the process of e-mail automation and what piques people’s interest to open your email. Scott discusses he likes short, snappy headlines followed by humor, lists, and pop culture references.  Email body must tie into the headline, for Scott. Airial can take or leave that. Email should also sell or send the reader somewhere. Both Airial and Scott talk about being a part of Marc Mawhinney's e-mail list and how engaging the emails are. (and how he send one every day without annoying the recipients.) They also describe the headlines of Dan Meredith as being show-stopping. Two of Scott’s favorite email headlines: Why be a Hero When you can be a Villain? Heroes are reactive. It’s the villain of the story who has a goal, a plan, execution, and investors. Ya Don’t Know What Ya Don’t Know, Ya Know?  Scott shares the story of his highest email open rate was with a smiley face headline: :]  He goes on to say anything that makes people say, “Huh?” or “What’s that about?” works beautifully. What causes you to open your email?   Topics that can make grabbing headline: Song lyrics Politics Universal human experiences Things that feed people’s need to be nosey/drama Emotional responses Scarcity Done right: This is the Only Webinar I’m Doing This Year Questions   Things to consider when creating a headline: Who is your audience? Don’t make ‘oops’ emails ‘Hurry’ & ‘limited time’ emails often backfire (clickbait) Airial Quotes: “Make sure your emails match your brand’s voice.” “How do you have limited seats on an online webinar that isn’t live?” “You’re always selling. It’s just how you do it.” “Write in a conversational tone because that gets them into the moment and it sounds like you’re talking directly to them.”   Scott Quotes: “The thing about a template is, you don’t want to follow the exact template just because it’s worked for other people. You want to adapt it to work for you.” “Subject line: Banana Hammock.” “It’s important to look at headlines as what’s going to impact my audience that makes them click?” “Don’t put limited seats during a webinar. It’s a digital conference room. Stop it. Stop. You’re lying to me. That’s not real scarcity. That’s false scarcity. “If thoughts were lily pads.”   Join Podcast Bay’s Mailing List! www.podcastbay.net (Click “I already have a podcast”)   Airial Links Airial's Facebook Profile The Veteran Woman Rebel Revolution Blog TrepTECH Academy    TrepTECH Facebook Profile TrepTECH Bonus Features Talk to Airial One-on-One     Scott Links Scott's Facebook Profile Scott's Instagram Profile Podcast Bay Facebook Group   Find TrepTECH Podcast on the Below Podcast Apps/Podcast Player Apple Podcast (Apple Only) Castbox.FM (Android & Apple) Libsyn

Welcome to the TrepTECH podcast hosted by the one and only Tech Angel, Airial Re’nal. Scott Doucet co-hosts inserting truth bombs and comedy along the way. You’re here for real, honest talk on real topics surrounding the entrepreneurial and business world. Nothing gets diluted during the TrepTECH recording sessions and you won’t believe some of the things our hosts take on as topics. This show is an excellent resource for any level of business owner. You’ll stay for the tips, strategies, stories, and chemistry between Airial and Scott. This is your new favorite podcast for successful entrepreneurs. In this episode, Airial allows Scott to steer this ship and he directs it toward the dicey waters of technical problems and solutions. Which is brilliant because Airial is a technical specialist. They discuss some of the tech failures they have both experienced and how it affected them as far as momentum or cause for any major setbacks. Types of Tech Fails: Forty minutes of an amazing episode occurred when they realized they had not been recording Scott calls it the best episode that was never recorded Plugging in but, are not able to hear each other during sales calls Systems for payment Systems for taxes Systems not working right Landing pages (sales funnel) Leading an email list Leading to a sales page Thank you page Client fulfillment We need to trust other professionals and experts to do what they do. Don’t waste hours and energy you could be used to promote, record, edit, make money,  doing something you can have someone else do for you. (especially if they are on your team already) Scott discusses how he creates landing pages: Post-it note Crude drawing Holding it up to webcam Letting Airial do it for him Scott lays out one of the biggest reasons people don’t start a podcast, or even their business in the online space because they’re paralyzed by the fear of not knowing how to produce the technical side of the business. This can be the greatest weakness and a detrimental one.  Airial jumps in, adding she tests out many different platforms, making sure they are user-friendly for situations just like this. Experts want to share their knowledge. Scott describes a time he put a call for help on Facebook and had dozens of people answering with fixes. One of those people was TrepTECH’s own Airial! Typical tech concerns: How do I set up an e-mail campaign? What’s the best platform to use for landing pages? What’s the best service for transcriptions? What’s the best online video meeting platform? How do I using editing software? Airial makes it clear cut by explaining when you take your time and try to do something you don’t know you could end up losing money yourself. Why not go ahead and pay someone who will do it quicker and save the extra money? It is imperative that you know your own strengths and weaknesses so you can assess when to reach out for assistance. It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg because the specialist may be able to fix it within a matter of minutes. Airial Quotes “It can be scary and overwhelming.” “I have back up plans for back up plans for back up plans.” “Servers crash, computers go slow, noise in the background . . . it happens. Just call me.” “Just send it to me. I’ll fix it.” “Tech is amazing. It gives us so many more opportunities” “Airial directs people to Scott when they come to her asking questions about how to start a podcast.” (pertaining to types of equipment, what is crucial, what needs to be splurged on, and what items can take the cheap route.) Scott Quotes “The thing is, there’s a fix for all of it.” “I’m not gonna try to do that. It’ll look like a three-year-old designed it on the paint program.” “Beginner entrepreneurs are cripplingly terrified of [tech issues].” “She didn’t get a choice. You work for us now.” (On Airial joining the Podcast Bay Productions team) “Tech scares the bejesus out of me, but I was still able to build a business in spite of that, so you can too.”   Join the TrepTECH Academy! Welcome to the TrepTECH podcast hosted by the beautiful, soulful accountability partner you need, Airial Re’nal and her co-host and often the seed of comedy, Scott Doucet. TrepTECH is disproving the myth that business has to be boring. In fact, if your business is boring, something’s wrong. There’s no topic too controversial or taboo for these two hosts because they know if something holds that kind of weight, it deserves to be spoken about. Both Airial and Scott are coaches and business owners. They have tons of experience, strategies, tips, and fun stories of their ups and downs to share with you. This podcast is a love letter and awesome show in support of entrepreneurs. In this episode, the topic of conversation is Identity. Our hosts briefly touch on the last episode about race and business, which you can listen to here before moving on to this episode’s topic.  Often we change the way we behave and speak based on who we’re talking to or based on who we think we’re supposed to be. Airial discusses going as far as hiding behind a personal brand when she got started.  Scott says he often felt pressured to change because he has always been the face of his business. He asks Airial what prompted her to hide behind brands or make changes to her businesses. Airial delivers a truth bomb and says, “because I’m a black woman.”  Airial goes on to explain the scripted content she created received the least views and likes. This was a vast difference than when she took a more raw, real, and natural approach. Scott confesses about the difficulty and pressure in his life with his marriage, business, fixer-upper house, and being a parent. There is a lot of love and also obstacles. He goes on to say he doesn’t post much about it, but it is also not something he avoids talking about with friends and during interviews. But, the important thing is that he no longer plays it cool when something is happening in his life because it is important that your client knows you need more time because something is going on in your life. This isn’t considered instability. It’s honesty and the ability to complete the tasks that have been given to you. In other words, stop being wrapped up in the perfect image on social media or concocting the perfect image that gets you clients. Airial pipes in and agrees with Scott, going as far as sharing Facebook lives in brutal honesty. What’s up with Identity? Being yourself Not being what you think people want/need Fake energy is palpable Don’t allow insecurity to bury you Reality is relatable Strategic The universal human experience Universal experience to your gender Universal to your race/nationality Universal to your religion Universal to business owners   Niching down distracts from relatability   Airial Quotes “I had a struggle of what is my identity and how does that affect my brand.” “Stop overthinking it . . . I remind myself just be me because that’s what people love about me is that I’m just me.” “You see everything about my life. There’s always one person that says, ‘Man, you just saved my life.’ or ‘I want to reach out to you because I feel like you understand and are not going to judge me.’” “I showed up. I’m not dressed up, but I’m here.” “If it’s out there and I put it out there, there’s no shame. No one can use it against me.” “Somebody is always going to judge you.”   Scott Quotes “Bottom line, strip away everything else, you’re here for business.” “This is one bright candle and there are a lot of plates spinnin’” “A lot of the world is out there to watch you burn.” “Never missed a deadline, but came d**n close.” “When Tor (Mrs. Doucet) posts pictures on Instagram about our life, our house in shambles, updates on Scotland (baby girl), breastfeeding and what have you . . . people eat it up. They like it.” “[My coach] told me I was going to have to clean up. Wear a suit and tie. I did and it was a nightmare. I hated it. I felt like a circus animal jumping through hoops.” “No one’s going to like the real me. I’m vulgar. I’m crude. I’m sweet. I’m nice. I’m direct and I’m weird. I thought people would reject the real me.”   Airial Links Airial's Facebook Profile The Veteran Woman Rebel Revolution Blog TrepTECH Academy    TrepTECH Facebook Profile Talk to Airial One-on-One     Scott Links Scott's Facebook Profile Scott's Instagram Profile Podcast Bay Facebook Group

The TrepTECH podcast is here to prove business doesn’t have to be serious all the time. It’s okay to laugh and smiles as long as you’re putting the work in to achieve your goals! Hosted by the stunning Airial Re’nal and her trusty sidekick Scott Doucet, TrepTECH is here to bust open the floodgates on every facet of business - not just the numbers. Both Scott and Airial share their personal stories of successes and failures in the entrepreneurial journies so far. You are not alone! Get settled in and get ready for a wild, informative, unconventional show about business. Your mind is about to be blown wide open.   Trigger warning and disclaimer: in this episode, Airial and Scott welcome Keenen Smith as an impromptu guest to discuss the very sensitive subject of racism and classism in business.  This may be a sensitive and difficult topic for some listeners. Please be advised. Scott, Airial, and Keenen each have different experiences as it comes to racism. Airial is a black female. Keenen is a black male. Scott is a white male.  Scott discusses what Keenen calls ‘inside racism’ is the only kinda he is familiar with while both Keenen and Airial have experienced what is described as ‘in your face’ racism. What does that mean for business though?   Keenen has experienced sending in a white person to close deals for his business even though his name is the one on the check. Airial has experienced black business owners/customers exclaiming that she is ‘trying to be white’ by using proper grammar. Airial has experienced when working with a white business partner that they each approached those of their own race in order to make a sell. Scott describes not being able to get black clients most of the time. Keenen and Airial talk about racism inside their own race. They speak of dark and light skin tones as well as proper grammar and ebonics. They give examples of what can happen in business with each of these concerns. Kennan also describes using an alias instead of his real name during business transactions. Scott throws down a gauntlet and discusses the differences in racism and classism stating that he, as a lower middle-class white male, has experienced some of the same things that Airial and Keenen have described earlier. What’s the difference? Classism: prejudice against or in favor of people belonging to a particular social class. (social status) Racism: the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races Scott describes clients turning away from him for being white, covered in tattoos, not dressing up, and not speaking in an extremely professional way   Airial Quotes “Okay, so, first of all, there’s this meme goin’ around Facebook like, ‘I may be ghetto, but my customer service voice went to Harvard.’ It’s about how we change how we talk depending on who we’re talking to.” “Another thing that got me was because I spoke properly I would get . . . I would get pushback. My friends would say or my classmates would say, ‘Oh, you’re tryin’ to be white. You’re tryin’ to act white. You’re talking white.’ That kinda thing.” “A woman asked me before, a black woman, she’s a veteran, and she has a nonprofit and she asked me, being black, in Georgia, in her town, wearing braids . . . if she should pretty much have a stock photo representing her nonprofit or if she should have her face there.”   Scott Quotes “To be completely fair and I think it’s a fair assessment to say that I’m fairly naive on the topic of racism.” “ I do, really do, think that racism looks different depending on where in the world you are. Like, racism in Africa is gonna look different than racism in Europe is gonna look different than racism in Canada.” “I grew up broke and I know of black families that grew up so much more wealthy than my family did. “   Keenen Quotes “If you make the culture believe it’s okay, it’s okay. You make it acceptable everywhere.” “We’ve divided ourselves amongst ourselves because some of us are trying to change things and some of us are trying to look within and try to understand like, what is the problem? You know? “ “that’s a part of our culture where we have . . . we have to actually separate ourselves in our own races to be able to live comfortably. That’s a horrific fact. It’s serious business.” “I had a brand--a business and went by an alias. It’s even my personal brand now. The brand was Xpro brand, but I never put my face on it and the reason I never put my face on it is I was perceived as a black hustler” Check Out The TrepTECH Academy www.treptechacademy.com Airial Links Airial's Facebook Profile The Veteran Woman Rebel Revolution Blog TrepTECH Academy    TrepTECH Facebook Profile Talk to Airial One-on-One     Scott Links Scott's Facebook Profile Scott's Instagram Profile Podcast Bay Facebook Group     Keenen Links Keenen's Professional Facebook Profile Keenen's Wesbite Keenen's LinkedIn Profile

Welcome to the TrepTECH Podcast hosted by the Fabulous Airial Re’nal. Co-hosted by the self-proclaimed button pusher, Scott Doucet. The TrepTECH podcast is here to teach you about business and show that business doesn’t always have to be a serious thing.  Entrepreneurship can be a jarring experience, but as long as your ‘why’ is worth it, you’ll endure. Airial and Scott are both experienced coaches as well as entrepreneurs themselves! They are happy and fired up about helping their listeners learn about business! In this episode, Airial flips things around and interviews Scott, asking him to talk about his beginnings in the business world.  (Scott interviewed Airial on this topic in episode two - check that out!) Scott has been producing podcasts for Airial for at least 3 years and has also worked in the capacity of a coach, consultant, marketing and so much more. Scott has many talents and a lot to offer to anyone who is truly willing and passionate to learn. Scott begins by giving a rundown of the types of jobs he has had. He started working as a radio personality/producer when in high school. He was in a band doing the recording, producing, marketing and merchandising. While working many retail jobs he noticed that he consistently got promoted to leadership positions which made him uncomfortable as an introvert. His supervisors took notice of his skills as a motivator and a person who could systematically get things done and yet failed to recognize his distaste for it. So, he would get a job, get promoted, quit and start the cycle all over again. You get to hear a funny story about quitting a job by throwing the store keys in his boss’s face. Quickly he knew he was going to have to do something to survive. Scott discusses his beginnings as a mohawk having, skinny jeans wearing punk kid with the desire to reach out to the youth as a motivational speaker in high schools under his first brand Edge Motivation. His coach, Marc Mawhinney, recommended doing podcasting as a living, breathing resume that could be sent to principals and schools to preview before hiring him to speak.  Scott tirelessly worked under his coach learning podcast production and business. In doing so he started his business, Podcast Bay Productions, and within the last two years has hired a team to work with him doing production editing and writing.   Scott: “What purpose do I serve?” “I’m friendly. I’m nice. It takes me a lot to not hit people at Walmart.” “You can close your own damn store!” “It felt so amazing! Like I could take over the world, but just for a couple of days ‘til I ran out of food.” - on quitting his last job. “I’m going to start a business. I’m going to inspire people. I’m going to teach them work ethic. I’m going to teach them how to do everything they need to succeed!” “A coach fills in blanks when you thought there was a complete sentence before.” “You’ve got the painting tool. You can change the pictures.” Airial: “He’s not antisocial. He’s just an introvert.” “The beauty of having a coach is they can see the bigger picture and help you realize what you can do and set it into play.”   Airial Links Airial's Facebook Profile The Veteran Woman Rebel Revolution Blog TrepTECH Academy    TrepTECH Facebook Profile Talk to Airial One-on-One     Scott Links Scott's Facebook Profile Podcast Bay Facebook Group   Instagram

Typically women in the U.S. are on the losing end of an uneven division of labor. We are expected to give a f*ck about everything. This isn’t only for those that are parents or in heterosexual marriages. These rigid gender roles seep in at work, in school, in friendships, etc-- even when we’re consciously trying to break free of them. In this episode, Airial Clark teaches us How to Be a Woman And Not Give a F*ck. It’s a must listen no matter your gender. Airial also tackles sex-positive parenting with us-- when and how should you start to your kids about sex? What’s the best way to teach bodily autonomy and privacy but still parent effectively? How do you introduce sex-positive parenting when your kids are already teens? Ken & Sunny discuss unsolicited dick pics and the demand for well-endowed sex workers.  Call in your BDSM & sex advice questions to our voicemail line 773-MUFF-TOY (we may play your message on air) or by email to americansexpodcast@gmail.com To support American Sex podcast, please visit patreon.com/americansex (plus you’ll get all episodes early, secret episodes, bonus stories from guests, blooper reels, stuff in the mail & more!) Airial Re’nal Dandridge, a Certified Life & Veteran Development Coach, is the founder of The Veteran Woman, LLC., a company dedicated to supporting and empowering female veterans as they transition from the military to civilian life.  Airial, like those she serves, is a 12-year Army veteran who once struggled to find direction during her own transition period. Held back by a lack of direction, limited resources, and personal trauma resulting from domestic violence, sexual harassment and military sexual assault, she felt alone trying to find her place in the world.  It wasn’t until she stumbled upon her own life coach that she found the direction and personal determination she needed to move forward, eventually creating The Veteran Woman program.  Today, she teaches women how to use their military experience as an advantage to both their personal and professional lives; especially those who don’t fit the traditional stay-at-home mom or 9-to-5 roles.  More than that, Airial works closely with women to help them establish clear goals, discover motivations, and create plans of action to live a life they love. Her coaching style is considered solution-focused, transformational and comprehensive; all backed by a passion to help others find their passion, purpose and happiness beyond PTSD, anxiety and depression.  Airial is dedicated to helping her clients reignite their passion in life and to rejuvenate their minds, bodies and souls so they can push towards the future with a clear mind full of purpose.
