Ask: Tap Into the Hidden Wisdom of People Around You for Unexpected Breakthroughs In Leadership and Life by Jeff Wetzler https://amzn.to/3UWL5cT Globally recognized expert on learning and leadership, Jeff Wetzler offers a hands-on, surprisingly effective way to find out what others really think, know, and feel. Ask leads to smarter decisions, more creative solutions, and deeper relationships. Too often, we don't find out what's truly on others' hearts and minds because we don't know how to ask the right questions in the right ways. Co-founder of Transcend and former international business consultant and Teach for America executive Jeff Wetzler wants to show you how to fix that. In Ask, he brings you a powerful method called The Ask Approach™, based on a simple premise: that tapping into what other people truly think, know, and feel is a game-changing superpower. In Section I, Wetzler reveals the most common things that people think and feel but often keep to themselves, as well as the key reasons why they choose to withhold information that could be valuable to you and your organization. Section II delves into the five steps of the Ask Approach, each answering an essential question: Choose Curiosity: How can you awaken your curiosity to make new discoveries and unexpected connections? Make it Safe: How do you make it easier for people to tell you hard things? Pose Quality Questions: What questions will best tap into the wisdom of anyone you ask? Listen to Learn: How can you hear what someone is really trying to tell you? Reflect & Reconnect: How do you turn talk into action? Section III helps you make asking an everyday superpower – not only for yourself but also for your team and organization, as well as for the next generation and society at large. The skills and messages of Ask could not be more timely. In a fast-changing world where AI is supplanting an increasing range of skills, the ability to learn from and connect with other people is one of the most important, fulfilling and uniquely human capabilities to master.

It's News Day Tuesday! Sam and Emma break down the biggest headlines of the day. We'll also be joined by Mark Joseph Stern (@mjs_dc). First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Donald Trump's ballot appeal, Blinken's visit to Israel, the mass arrest at Pro-Palestine protests in NYC, GOP infighting and a looming government shutdown, global warming, Nikki Haley's rise, the battle over Mayorkas, and Twitter's journalist purge, before diving into Biden supporters' problematic response to a Pro-Palestine protest. Mark Joseph Stern then joins, diving right into the focus on the 14th Amendment's Section III in Donald Trump's ongoing ballot-access case, with both Colorado and Maine citing it for their exclusion of him from both primary and general election ballots, parsing through the details of the clause, and the dependence of a congressional vote to reallow any insurrectionists to run for office. Expanding on this, Stern parses through the various legal (and more likely, political) avenues Trump's legal team could take, and where the various conservative – yet supposedly originalist – Supreme Court justices might land. Next, they look into the ongoing Supreme Court case around Idaho's near-total abortion ban, including SCOTUS overturning a stay on the ban, and how the ban weaponizes punitive measures against both doctors and patients. Sam and Emma also cover Mike Johnson's total ripoff of Kevin McCarthy's speakership, a new ruling on the gig economy, and Twitter's most recent round of anti-journalist suspensions. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma tackle the importance of voting this year – with a shout to Olayemi Olurin's recent video – Missouri's Secretary of State attempts to turn whataboutism into a legal argument to ban Biden from the ballot, and the crew tackles Israeli politician Ofer Cassif joining South Africa's case charging Israel with crimes of genocide. Alex Jones, Jimmy Dore, and Eric Adams give their low-level supervillain takes on immigration, and Donald Trump goes on Lindell TV to take down the idea of climate change. Miguel from Arkansas discusses the role of Kamala Harris moving forward, Mel from Texas gives some updates on the evolution of college admissions amidst attacks on higher education, and Jon Does from Tampa and Michigan tackles military service and Biden's electoral problems, respectively. This Sunday we come to the sixth day of the creation week as God fills the earth with life. This text is foundational for understanding who we are as human beings, and for understanding the role God has given to mankind on the earth. We will consider the significance of being created in the image of God, and how this sets humanity apart from all other creatures. In addition, as we see the first Adam's dominion over the earth, and how this points us forward to the glory of the second Adam.In preparation for worship this Sunday, I invite you to read Genesis 1:24-31 and our statement on the doctrine of man (Section III) in our Statement of Faith. Our doctrines of creation, race and ethnicity, the sanctity of life, gender, marriage, sexuality, and family are all undergirded by this foundational text in Genesis 1.In addition, we also invite you to pray for our Men's Retreat as we are currently retreating with the men of Arlington Baptist and Jefferson Park Baptist at Rapidan Baptist Camp. Pray that the Lord would bless our fellowship with one another and our time in 2 Peter. We will return on Saturday afternoon, and I look forward to our whole church family being together this Lord's Day.For His Glory and your joy in Christ,Pastor David--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Discussion & Response Questions (Genesis 1:24-31)What does Genesis 1:24-31 reveal about God as Creator?Read through Genesis 1:24-31 and Section II (the doctrine of man) in our Statement of Faith. What doctrines are undergirded by Genesis 1:24-31?What is the image of God? What is the significance of the image of God? What are the ethical implications of bearing the divine image?Consider the commands of verse 28. What is the purpose of these commands? What does the presence of work in creation reveal about the role of mankind in the world before the fall?As descendants of Adam, what is our relationship to the commands given to Adam in Genesis 1?How does God order relationships between mankind, creatures, and the earth? What is the purpose of God's Creation? How does the first Adam lead us to the second Adam? Consider Psalm 8, Romans 5:12-14; and 1 Corinthians 15.What parallels and contrasts do you observe between Genesis 1 and Revelation 21-22?

The late week news was so screwball that Steve surrendered to Screwball Peanut Butter Whiskey to cope while Lucretia the Lightweight settled for Irish coffee while John, out of place as usual, passed on a liquid lunch to have a real one. (By the way, the Screwball Peanut Butter Whiskey is not recommended.)And what a lot of screwball news, starting with the designation of a DoJ special counsel to deal with Hunter Biden's special needs, a trial date and mini-gag order for Trump, and the flurry over the proposal of two conservative law professors to ban Trump's eligility for the ballot under Section III of the 14th Amendment about "insurrection." (If you are a glutton for the punishment of a 126-page law review article, you can view the whole thing here.) There's just one problem with this scenario: Trump hasn't been charged with fomenting insurrection or rebellion. Maybe the special counsel is waiting for another bad news dump on Hunter? After some observations about the failed Ohio referendum this week we finallky getr down to some wider topics, including reflections on the astonishing interview last week with Obama biographer David Garrow in The Tablet, which presents about as unflattering a portrait of "the lightworker" as can be imagined. (If you haven't read the Garrow interview, do so at your earliest convenience.) And we also ponder the latest notable offerings on the state of the country from Victor Davis Hanson ("Who Will Say No to the Current Madness") and Jacob Howland ("America Is Now a Zombie State"). Steve, naturally, sees some signs of life while Lucretia, naturally, finds him to be too infernally optimistic. Finally, a few suggestions for great general reading about politics, with Steve recommending a title from Kenneth Minogue and John recommending two titles from Daniel Bell. Lucretia is sticking with Calvin and Hobbes—the comic strip, not the 16th and 17th century authors!

Archives are much more than silent repositories of historical material. They are rich sites for teaching and learning, for collaboration and for creative and critical exploration of our past, present and future. In their new book, Teaching through the Archives: Text, Collaboration, and Activism (Southern Illinois University Press, 2022), Tarez Samra Graban and Wendy Hayden bring together 37 contributors to explore the many possible uses of archival collections in the teaching of writing and history and in generating scholarly collaboration, pedagogical experimentation and community building within and beyond the university. Section I focuses on how approaching the archive primarily as text fosters habits of mind essential for creating and using archives, for critiquing or inventing knowledge-making practices, and for being good stewards of private and public collections. Section II argues for conducting archival projects as collaboration through experiential learning and for developing a preservationist consciousness through disciplined research. Section III details praxis for revealing, critiquing, and intervening in historic racial omissions and gaps in the archives. The book's contributors see archives as sites of activism, as places where students can develop critical skills, test and question established research methodologies while also learning to appreciate the specialist knowledge of archivists. Educators in disciplines including rhetoric and composition, literature, history and archival studies will find many inspiring ideas in this book. While the chapters offer university-based case studies, many of the ideas could also be adapted to the secondary classroom and to non-institutional educational settings. In this episode, Alice Garner interviews Tarez Graban about the genesis of the book, the important lessons and possibilities she and Wendy Hayden sought to draw out from the contributors' research, as well as Dr Graban's recent work in transnational and postcolonial Southern African archival research and repatriation. More on the editors: Tarez Samra Graban, associate professor in the English department at Florida State University, is the author of Women's Irony: Rewriting Feminist Rhetorical Histories and coauthor of GenAdmin: Theorizing WPA Identities in the Twenty-First Century. Wendy Hayden, associate professor at Hunter College, CUNY, is the author of Evolutionary Rhetoric: Sex, Science, and Free Love in Nineteenth-Century Feminism. Alice Garner is a historian, teacher and performer with a PhD from the University of Melbourne, Australia. Learn more about your ad choices.
