1998 single by Moloko
POPULARITY
She emerged in the mid-90s as one half of Moloko, the duo she formed with then-boyfriend Mark Brydon, creating iconic dance hits like "Sing It Back" and "The Time Is Now". After 30 years of pop, Irish artist Róisín Murphy is touring with her sixth solo album "Hit Parade" – said to be her best yet. Eve Jackson caught up with her at the end of the European leg of the tour to reminisce about gigs in Paris, going clubbing and to talk about making her best music yet at age 50.

Andrew Goldstone is a music business pioneer. As one of the first employees at Astralwerks he saw that label rise to critical acclaim and financial success in the mid 90's with his signing of Fatboy Slim and the label's work with the Chemical Brothers, Air, Basement Jaxx, Future Sound of London and others. Following that, he set up his F-111 imprint at Warner Bros. where he signed Green Velvet and had huge chart hits around the world with remixes of Green Velvet's “Flash” and Moloko's “Sing It Back”. After a stint at Ministry of Sound in New York where he signed Fischerspooner, Andrew went to law school and then joined the entertainment law firm of Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks where he worked on ground breaking deals for Madonna, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Diddy and others. At the end of 2012, he moved to Red Light Management to manage Tiësto while also serving as the GM of Tiesto's record label, Musical Freedom Records. Andrew moved to Deckstar (now YM&U Group) in 2017 with Don Diablo who rose to be the 6th most popular DJ in the world while under his management and currently manages 3LAU, whose NFT drops have generated nearly $20M in sales this year, and Sullivan King.Connect with Lennon: Website: https://www.lennoncihak.comPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/lennoncihakMailing List: http://eepurl.com/dlYpxTInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/lennoncihak/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@lennoncihakTwitter: https://twitter.com/LennonCihakLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lennoncihak/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5eX_uxAUIwBC0gyKwCbqtwGuest Request: https://goo.gl/forms/8zs61IYiIXMLjFpX2
Roisin Murphy is without doubt a force of nature. After her rise to stellar fame with the band Moloko, and the club classic ‘Sing It Back', she has matured into a unique musical visionary. Born in Ireland, moved to Manchester and settled in Sheffield, she has gone on to create some of the most intelligent and futuristic electronic pop music in the last 2 decades. Apart from being massively respected in the music community for her daring and originality, her new album ‘Roisin Machine' is a total, unequivocal triumph, and is top of my playlists currently. Give it up for the machine herself…

Róisín grew up in Arklow, Ireland but moved with her family to Manchester, when she was 12. She formed the group Moloko with Mark Brydon in 1995, straddling the pop, art rock, trip hop divide, cementing their place in the popular consciousness with the tracks Sing It Back, The Time Is Now and Familiar Feeling. Her solo career since has provided evidence of a restless, creative mind, and she has released music ranging from the leftfield pop of Ruby Blue, made with tech jazz producer Matthew Herbert to a recent series of sumptuous deep house EPs (made in conjunction with Maurice Fulton). She has recently moved into film making and has a new single due out this Spring, made with Parrot from Sheffield electronic mainstays, All Seeing I.

Having completed the project a few months back, I've decided it's time to bring it into the spotlight. Unlike its 90s predecessor, Millennial House Music marks a period of intriguing transitions and expansions, tracing the genre's evolution from its classic and disco lineage to a more varied soundscape. The first decade of the new millennium was a formative time for house music, steering it into various sub-genres and stylistic flourishes. Sure, industry stalwarts like Eric Kupper, David Morales, and Full Intention continued their contributions. But this era also welcomed new talents like Freemasons, Seamus Haji, Moto Blanco, and Bob Sinclar, who offered fresh perspectives and interpretations for a new wave of dance music aficionados. This collection, the first of a multi-series set, aims to provide valuable insights into the house music landscape from 2000 to 2009. Packed with tracks that span the breadth of stylistic approaches of the time, you'll find a lot here that'll transport you back to simpler, perhaps more rhythmic times. Let's delve into some featured tracks. Praise Cats and Andrea Love comes in hard with "Shined On Me," graced by a Bini & Martini Re-Vocal Mix. The song carries the timeless house element, presented with a new millennial charm. Clubland's "Let's Get Busy" features Sami Dee's Classic House Remix, a track that has succeeded in encapsulating the energetic spirit of early millennial house music while keeping its roots firmly implanted in the burgeoning House scene from the late 1980s. Barbara Tucker featuring Darryl D'Bonneau gives us "Stop Playing With My Mind," rendered in Full Intention's unmistakable style. Meanwhile, Armand Van Helden's "I Want Your Soul" serves as a rhythmic manifesto of what house music had become at the turn of the millennium. Moloko's iconic “Sing It Back” finds new life in the Boris Musical Mix, offering an idyllic blend of retro and contemporary sounds. Another standout, Bob Sinclar's "I Feel For You," brings out a touch of romantic nostalgia that so often accompanies dance tracks. Further spicing up this compilation are tracks like Haji & Emanuel's “Weekend” in the ATFC Wet Weekend Mix, and David Guetta's collaboration with Estelle on “One Love,” extended into a multi-minute audio experience that captures the wide-ranging dynamics of early Millennial House Music Classics. So, if house music is a passion you share or even an interest you're keen to explore, you're in for a delightful journey.
More Happy Pills....Follow up of previous Happy Pill. Proviso: Been sitting on this Intro for a while, thought it fitted the Happy Pill Theme.. By no means am I NOT taking mental health as a serious issue. It simply is! Directly or indirectly, we all have had some experience of how tragic, debilitating or simply sad, mental health issues are. This being clarified, we still can have a little smile about it. Except for the intro (it’s been a long time I have used a little intro sample due to wife’s constant disapproval J), this set is a direct cut from a set I play a fortnight ago for a few friends on our deck. Another dose of Soulful, happy house tunes to wrap up the Australian summer. I handpicked the tunes, most of them are very current and my favourites producers are there. It also marks the time where I have to distance myself from Soulful House and revisit a more progressive, darker, more challenging musical landscape. I should re-upload next week, therefore stay tuned. Playlist: Intro MH Hotline 2014 The Truth (Original). U-Ness, Jed Sed & Samson Lewis 2013 Everybody Wants Something (Joey Negro Strip Mix). Kings Of Soul 2011 Sing It Back (Michael Kaye Club). Reunited Highlights: This section will not be as exhaustive as usual but please do pay special attention to the following tunes. “Truth” from my current favourite House Producers and Label U-Ness, Jed Set on Soulheat records.. Their Miami 2014 sampler compilation is out, run on Traxsource and buy it. Joey Negro’s Everybody Wantts Something.. Classic Joey’s Happy tune, easy listening. Two tunes featuring the immensely talented vocalist Andrea Love.. “Running to Love”, which if it weren’t for my connection to U-Ness would have headlined the set and “More Love”. Richard Earnshaw, Maurice Joshua, Mike Dunn and Steven Stone: make no mistake, this is current Soulful House royalty!!! OtherSoul’s Little Bootleg « La La La ».. When I played it, I noticed an eleven year old girl grooving to it, realizing that I may not have known the tune but she certainly did. I have been using a lot of OtherSoul’s Soundcloud remixes lately. Two talented producers from Spain, check them out. The Shane D remix of “Caribbean Queen”. Notwithstanding the initial reaction of people close to me, of the “oh come on, not this” sort, I can share one thing with you: they were ALL humming it… As for “Sing It Back”.. well it is… “Sing It back” and for the purpose of More Happy Pills. I will never grow tired of it.. Also it was a throwback of my NYD set (still struggling to decide whether worth the upload), which ended with a mega Xtian Edit of this very tune.. Hope you got the full dose of More Happy Pill, for the next one will be less sweet... Enjoy, à très bientôt! Xtian
