How many of us have grown up playing video games? How many of us have had parents buy us video games? And then in the same vein, scoot us over to busy ourselves with video games while they tsimis, unwind, or do other things? Like a babysitter, third parent, or friend, video games have been in Filipino households from the 80s and beyond. Today we reminisce about our relationship to video games and how as adults these are becoming avenues for mental health even while it is arguably today corrupting the “youth”? A great conversation with our good friend Jenna Buffum! In today's episode, we reflect the An Artists' Wonderland, a gala and auction event that we recently had at WAB. Joining us for this conversation is Sophie from Grade 12 and Kun Jiao, WAB's Head of Alumni, Advancement, and Archiving. Sophie sheds light on what inspired her to create the student club Art for Enlightenment and how, with the help of Kun Jiao, they came together with another club, Auction for Change, to create the artists' gala. Tuning in you'll hear how the event featured over 130 pieces of art, how much money was raised through the auctioning off of this art, the cause that they raised money for, and why so many WAB students are so passionate about this cause. You'll also hear how Sophie balances her time between her club and academics, why she feels they complement each other so well, and what she learned in creating this event. Whether you attended the gala or not, don't miss this podcast!
