$0 to $10 Million in 5 Years: The Sales Strategy That Worked

Success Formula Podcast

How do you build wealth from nothing? Jeremy Jenson did it, going from a childhood of moving between rented houses in Alief, Texas, to running Encore Search Partners, one of Houston's largest privately held recruiting firms. Shawn Lynch sits down with him to unpack exactly how, and why the strategy that gets you to your first million looks nothing like the strategy that gets you to fifty. Jeremy talks openly about growing up with a single mom, watching wealthier classmates drive brand new trucks in high school, and how that gap planted the seed for the ambition that drives him today. The two get into the real framework behind scaling a company at every stage, from the hustle and grind it takes to hit your first million, to the leverage and reinvestment that carries you from one million to ten, to the relationships and trust that carry you from ten million to fifty. Jeremy explains why sales fixes almost every other problem in a business, why he would rather hire a strong operator than try to do everything himself, and why entrepreneurs who cut corners for quick money rarely make it past a few good years. Shawn and Jeremy also talk about parenting, raising ambitious kids without raising entitled ones, teaching financial literacy early, and why the real marker of success has far less to do with the size of your bank account than most people assume.Subscribe to Official Success Formula for more conversations like this one, and catch the full episode on the podcast at the link below. In Redefining the Immigrant South: Indian and Pakistani Immigration to Houston During the Cold War (University of North Carolina Press), Uzma Quraishi (Sam Houston State University) follows the Cold War-era journeys of South Asian international students from U.S. Information Service reading rooms in India and Pakistan, to the halls of the University of Houston, to the suburban subdivisions of Alief and Sugar Land. This student migration between 1960 and 1980 shows how public diplomacy programs overseas catalyzed the arrival of highly educated, middle-class Asians in the U.S. before the Hart-Celler Act of 1965. Drawing on archival documents, GIS data, and oral interviews, Quraishi investigates how Indian and Pakistani immigrants forged an “interethnic” identity in Houston and located themselves—both socially and geographically—in the midst of a booming yet segregated Sunbelt city. She conceptualizes their mobility as “brown flight,” a process that simultaneously strengthened ethnic bonds even as it reinforced racial and class barriers. By exploring the links between international and local scales, Redefining the Immigrant South will interest scholars from many fields, including Asian American history; histories of the U.S. South, immigration, and U.S. foreign relations; and sub/urban studies. Finance Degree? or Art Degree? Play it safe? or Shoot for the Moon? What's the right order? When Sculptor, Caretaker, Job seeker, Dreamer, Debbie Vu of Alief, Houston reached out to me on *LinkedIn, a 30 min conversation turned into an episode on why being (only) good at school can leave you (really) lost when it comes to real life.  Meanwhile, CALLING ALL HOUSTON VIETNAMESE FINE ARTISTS - Connect to Debbie (IG: @art_dtv) to create a community of artists that understand and represent you!Disclaimer:  I am not a professional coach, therapist, (anything, really) - My opinions in this episode are purely from my own experience and observations working across corporate, small business, consulting, and nonprofit organizations for 16+ years. Listen at your own risk!Note 1: Editing this episode made me realize where I got "useless potato" from (last episode, recorded after this one). So, thanks Debbie. To us, celebrating potato-ship. Potato-ness?Note 2: Talking to Debbie made me realize why I call everyone "girllll or dude" indiscriminately - it's an Alief thing?  I need to update it to be "huumann..." or maybe.. "BeinG" *LinkedIn = an American job hunting / networking website. They are not paying me to mention them. They should.Recorded: 1/4/2023, the day after my cousin and I were harassed/chased in NY at a subway station by a man asking if we were from China. Takeaways:Spending 90% of your time applying for jobs isn't efficient or effective.Aiming for jobs lower than your skill set is actually hurting you.Your resume should reflect where you want to be, not just where you were.Rejections should not define you. You NEED to know your worth. In everything. You NEED a passion project outside of your job.
