Tod Lending #OnTheSofaWithVictoria. A special featuring THE UMBRELLA MAKER'S SON, the Holocaust, interior character, documentary film and storytelling.THE UMBRELLA MAKER'S SON: Born to a secure, middle-class Polish Jewish family, seventeen-year-old Reuven works alongside his father, an artisan businessman whose shop creates the finest handmade umbrellas in Poland. But the family's peaceful life shatters when the Nazis invade their homeland, igniting World War II. With terrifying brutality, the Nazis confiscate their business, evict them from their home, and strip away their rights, threatening the lives of the city's Jewish population, including Reuven and Zelda, the girl he loves. Shortly after the Nazi occupation, Zelda and her family disappear, and Reuven and his father are forced into backbreaking physical labor that nearly kills them. For the young man and his family, the only chance to survive is escape--and some of them will die trying. Fleeing a Nazi ambush through the surrounding forest, shot and wounded, Reuven is found by a local farmer who has never met a Jew--and agrees to help because he needs the boy to work the farm with him. The farmer's wife, however, is not as kind. Her betrayal forces a desperate Reuven to escape. He embarks on a perilous journey through the Polish countryside, determined to reach the Kraków ghetto where he hopes to reunite with Zelda, whose life has also been forever changed by the horrors of occupation and war. A love story and a story of family, The Umbrella Maker's Son is a riveting, heartfelt, and beautiful tale of survival and unexpected hope in the face of terror and violence. A chronicle of triumph, it joins the ranks of The Tattooist of Auschwitz and other memorable works of modern Holocaust literature.Tod Lending is an Academy Award-nominated and national Emmy-winning producer, director, writer, and cinematographer. His work has aired nationally on ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, and HBO; has been screened theatrically and received awards at national and international festivals, including the Sundance Film Fest.; and has been televised internationally in Europe and Asia. He is the president and founder of Nomadic Pictures, a documentary film production company based in Chicago. Born and raised in Manhattan Beach, California with half Canadian roots, Chloé Caroline's music radiates a warm, authentic SoCal vibe with a subliminal message for people to live their truth and spread their light so we can better connect and understand each other. Her ultimate goal is for nobody to ever feel alone. After experiencing a life-threatening illness at age 11 that left her isolated, she taught herself guitar from YouTube using songwriting as her outlet. Shortly after graduating Belmont University in 2018 with no prior acting experience, she auditioned and co-starred alongside Kelly Rutherford and Cameron Mathison in Hallmark Channel's "Love, of Course". She also wrote and performed the soundtrack and songs for the film. In addition, she has had multiple film/TV placements with her original songs ranging from the end title of Lionsgate's "The Great Gilly Hopkins" to MTV's "Catfish". As an influencer, she has organically and independently built a loyal following via social media with 200k+ fans that have dubbed themselves the "Chloé Caroline Crew", landing her 70+ brand partnerships including Stella Rosa Wines, Toyota, and Meta. A believer in "using her creativity to her full potential", she's even co-designed a jewelry collection inspired by her songs in partnership with Moonglow Jewelry. Most recently, she released the first of two EPs called "The Awakening Vol 1", garnering radio traction from LA's own Alt 98.7 "She is the Voice", Montana's Mix 93.3, Chicago's Mix 101.9, CBC Radio, and BBC Radio 1, as well as nationwide retail play in over 18.3k U.S. stores and college campuses across Canada. Live performances and interviews on KTLA, Global News Canada, and NBC's "Today in Nashville" are just a few ways the storyteller has expanded her reach. She's sold out and played all over LA (Hotel Cafe, Peppermint Club, We Found New Music, etc.), Nashville (Bluebird Cafe, The Analog, Listening Room), and festivals like Sundance Film Fest, Island Hopper, and Key West Songwriters Festival. Most recently, she made her "School Night" industry showcase debut at Bardot Hollywood in LA. In addition, Chloé co-hosts the unedited "Unwritten" podcast, inspiring others to live their best lives and giving a platform for anyone to share their story/advice. #BigStar #Music #Interview #Voice

We love when our return guests ask for us by name and that's exactly what happened when we were pitched this interview with director Shana Feste. We met Shana during her press tour of her film Boundaries back in 2018 and then we were reunited at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. It's been two whole years (plus some months) but her film Run Sweetheart Run is out in the universe streaming right now on Amazon Prime. We get to catch up with Shana about using her hometown of Los Angeles as the backdrop of Run Sweetheart Run, her loyal music supervisor (who picked some great songs for the film btw), writing about periods for a film, her real life story of a date that got scary and later was the basis of Run Sweetheart Run, the movie review site Rotten Tomatoes, and more. It was great to speak with Shana again and we can't wait to see what's up her sleeve on the big screen and beyond. Thanks for another heartfelt convo Shana
Welcome to Flash Back Friday! With 600+ episodes, we're excited to revisit some of our favorites with our new listeners (and maybe new to our regular listeners). We're bringing you back to the Sundance Film Festival of 2021, where we discussed a local story directed by San Franciscan Debbie Lum. Her film, Try Harder! focuses on Lowell High School - a public school that kids have to test into - and a handful of students that are (and sometimes their parents) obsessed with getting into Ivy League colleges. The film made us think about our high school experiences and appreciate that our parents didn't pressure us about getting into college. Like, not at all. Try Harder! is out in theaters today! We're basic bitching about some important life lessons after Ange attempts to go to church, and Producer Char brings Prime Rib leftovers on a plane. Trust us, it's more traumatic (and hilarious!) then it sounds. And then we cap off the episode with an interview from Sundance 2021 with two of our favorite guests, director duo extraordinaire Betsy West and Julie Cohen. Their documentary, My Name is Pauli Murray, is available to stream on Amazon, and to watch in select theaters near you. This is one of our favorite documentaries of the year about a woman who was born in 1910, and has been a trailblazer for everything we're still fighting for today, including women's rights, the LGBTQ community, and Black Lives Matter. We've been virtually covering the Sundance Film Fest for the last week or so and wanted to check-in with our friend, John Wildman of Films Gone Wild . Normally we'd be in a room with John co-hosting a show called The Festival Daily Buzz for a local Park City, Utah radio station, but this year, since we're sheltering in place, we're Sundanc-ing as our respective outlets. Sit back and enjoy our thoughts on the realities of watching a film festival movie at home when you're sharing space with others (clearing through - family), juggling interviewing multiple guests on one screen via Zoom, and missing the things that Sundanc-ing in place just can't replace when you're in Park City. We'll be all Sundance during the next week or two, so get ready for some fun and insightful interviews with filmmakers, actors, and producers from all around the world. Thanks for listening! Jesus taught his disciples to pray: Give us this day our DAILY BREAD. What if it meant more than just asking God for our needs and waiting for provision to fall from the sky? What if it included asking and seeking provision from each other?
