We're honored to celebrate Luther Vandross and his musical legacy as well as raise awareness for diabetes health-related complications (such as stroke) on our annual Luther Vandross Tribute podcast. In the years since Luther's passing, one constant has remained to define his life and musical success: the voice. Like any great singer of the past 100 years, Luther Vandross' voice and distinct singing style led to monumental success and instant recognition when you hear him singing–through your stereo, car radio, on TV or in a movie. Coupled with that voice was Luther's unique ability to write and sing about love and the shared emotions we all feel in that search for and enjoyment of love. Through his songs, for the last two generations, Luther Vandross became a staple in the most joyous moments of people's lives. Featured guests include Patricia Addie-Gentle RN, CDE, Luther percussionist Steve Kroon, Luther vocalists Tawatha Agee and Pat Lacy, Luther historian Leon Petrossian, members of ‘The Luther Re-Lives Experience', family members, friends and superfans. Throughout the  podcast we will be featuring selected songs from the album entitled ‘Luther Vandross' courtesy of SONY Music.

BAAS Entertainment presents: SIX DEGREES OF... Hosted by Troy Saunders, Wanda T. & Arif St. Michael

In this episode Wanda T., Arif St. Michael and I cover some of the great songs that helped to engrave Luther Vandross in the annuals of exceptional and one of a kind  male singers. From his debut solo album "Never To Much" to the posthumous hit "Shine"; Luther's albums have constantly gone  platinum. He has been nominated for 33, and won 8 Grammy Awards. If you haven't heard of Luther Vandross or just need a refresher on his greatness this episode is definitely a must. Not only do we discuss Luther but we go into what made his music so incredible; from the angelic backgrounds from the  great  Cissy Houston (Whitney Houston's mother), Lisa Fischer, Brenda White King, Tawatha Agee, Paulette McWilliams. Cindy Mizelle and more. The bass playing from Marcus Miller;  Nat Adderley Jr's piano or just how Luther arranged all the music.  You will see how Luther's approach to music has made an artist that many  try to imitate. We definitely miss Luther Vandross. Listen to this episode and see why he is worthy of this tribute and more.

In the studio he has recorded vocals for Chavous, Sarah's Girl, Geneva Renee, Tye Tribbett, Jim Stephens, and Will Downing. In 2016, Ashley has released his debut single “Words.”  Ashley went back to his roots with the recording process of this song. “The song was written and composed by Alysha Ashley and I. She is from Kentucky and while composing this song I wanted to enhance the song with more lush arrangement and vocals, which is what you don't here in the music of today. With an ensemble of the best musicians and vocalists from the Philly area, we recorded the song in the Lab studios with engineer Craig White (formerly of Philadelphia International Records). We also had some additional production assistance from Will Downing which was an honor” Though the song is about being in love it is more about the interaction of a couple in the heat of a discussion. It encourages the listener to watch your “Words” and if you don't have an answer in that moment then it is ok to table it for another time.Ashley's latest single “Don't Throw Our Love Away” reached the #3 spot on the UK Soul Chart!!! To continue on the success of this song a remix, for all you that love house music, is scheduled for release in June. Not only do I love to share the music during live sets, but I love to interview those artists that made that music. Originally launched as an avenue to share 80's based boogie, disco, soul, modern funk, and interviews of the artist and producers behind those tracks. We now 100% focus on interviewing that artist! Find out what James Mtume, the late great Kashif, Steve Arrington, Rahni Song, Jody Watley, and many more artists already know about how we get down! This is, "Take It Out On The Groove"! Our last interview was recorded in February 2019. I decided to put the show on hold not only to take a break but to find a new approach for the show. As we return to what we do, I felt it had to be the right artist for us to make our return! Well, you're definitely in for a treat this episode! Tawatha Agee, (lead vocalist with Mtume, songwriter, background vocalist extraordinaire) joins the relaunch of Take It Out On The Groove to discuss her storied music career, what she's working on today, and how she's been maintaining during the pandemic. We touch on everything from her beginnings singing in the church to a project that would be released later this year sending a rig to her home during the pandemic for her to record vocals! Yes, we definitely discuss the Mtume Band, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, and so much more! So here is number 2 in my monthly selftitled mix series! After setting it off with Neo Soul in my previous mix I felt it was only right to continue with a Funk (and some Disco ish?) type mix. Ofcourse I had to put in some Zapp and Kleeer to rep the originators of my favorite Funk sound. Also an overlooked oldie by Daft Punk in there I still like and a track by Will I Am you might recognize from another track. Also a very early Midas Hutch original that I luckily downloaded years and years ago! Mixed on my XDJ RX-1 again!S/O to Zoë Love Smith helping me design for the cover again ♥️

Hasan Piker sits down with Montreal producers David "Dave One" Macklovitch and Patrick "Pee Thug" Gemayel, known collectively as Chromeo. https://chromeo.net/headoverheels/ With a love of talkboxes, vintage drum machines, and gleamingly plastic synth tones, Montreal electro-funk duo Chromeo developed a sound that looked to the deepest echelon of '80s funk and radio R&B to develop their sound. While wearing the influence of Zapp, Prince, and even Hall & Oates on their sleeve, their style would grow more refined as the years went on, with production getting more detailed as their songwriting became more nuanced. The band's homage to the greats of the dancefloor and its unbridled worship of pop found its summit on their fourth album, 2014’s White Women. By then the group had fine-tuned their formula and also opened up their creative world to guest vocalists and producers, maximizing their mainstream accessibility and resulting in their highest-charting release. Chromeo were formed in 2002 by Montreal producers David "Dave One" Macklovitch and Patrick "Pee Thug" Gemayel. Dave One took on vocal duties, though both former hip-hop producers were multi-instrumentalists and brought their love of classic funk and soul to their nascent creations. The "Destination Overdrive" single appeared in late 2003, complete with the tingling B-side "Needy Girl" (a ringer for Yaz's "Situation") and a DFA remix. The single was followed by a proper full-length debut, She's in Control, released on Vice in early February 2004. To satiate their fans between records, Chromeo issued two mixes, 2005's Un Joli Mix Pour Toi and 2006's Ce Soir on Danse!, while gigging and working on their second album. Fancy Footwork arrived in the summer of 2007, boasting a slicker sound and poppier songwriting (courtesy of Cassius' Philippe Zdar on mixing duties), plus an avalanche of remixes. In the summer of 2008, they would collaborate with Hall & Oates' own Daryl Hall for part of his online series Live from Daryl's House. As fans awaited another album, Chromeo released DJ-Kicks in 2009. They finally returned in August 2010 with Business Casual, released by Atlantic Records in the U.S. The singles "Over Your Shoulder" and "Sexy Socialite" were released in 2013, and both landed on the following year's White Women, an album that featured Solange, Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig, and, in affirmation of their indebtedness to early-'80s R&B, vocalist Tawatha Agee (of Mtume). The duo's highest Billboard debut, it narrowly missed the Top Ten. Four years later, the band returned with fifth album Head Over Heels, another album heavy on guest contributions from the likes of DRAM, French Montana, Amber Mark, and others. ~ Johnny Loftus, Rovi Learn more about your ad choices. Here's my 20 top tracks of 2017 all mixed together into almost two hours of disco-fuelled house music. It's been a fun year watching disco samples and funky bass lines creep into the mainstream and across all sorts of electronic music. Featuring some of favourite labels new and old: Regraded, Razor-N-Tape, Glitterbox, Cabin Fever, Z Records and Classic Music Company. And some of my favourite producers, Joey Negro, Luke Solomon, Mousse T, Dimitri From Paris and Folamour, who's had an amazing climb to fame this year. A few tune highlights: 'Must Be The Music' – I heard Joey Negro play this at Space in 2016 and had to wait almost a year to get my hands on this piece of modern disco at it's finest. Been on constant repeat; my tune of year. Enjoy guys! *insert disco dancing emoji* 1. Nebraska – Drill Deep 2. Body Music – Just One 3. We’re honored to celebrate Luther Vandross and his musical legacy as well as raise awareness for diabetes health-related complications (such as stroke) on our annual Luther Vandross Tribute podcast. In the years since Luther’s passing, one constant has remained to define his life and musical success: the voice. Like any great singer of the past 100 years, Luther Vandross’ voice and distinct singing style led to not only monumental success, but an instant recognition when you hear him singing–through your stereo, car radio, on TV or in a movie. Coupled with that voice was Luther’s unique ability to write and sing about love and the shared emotions we all feel in that search for and enjoyment of love. Through his songs, for the last two generations Luther Vandross became a staple in the most joyous moments of people’s lives. Featured guests include Patricia Addie-Gentle RN, CDE, Luther percussionist Steve Kroon, Luther vocalists Tawatha Agee and Pat Lacy, Luther historian Leon Petrossian, members of ‘The Luther Re-Lives Experience’, family members, friends and superfans. Throughout the  podcast we will be featuring selected songs from the album entitled ‘Luther Vandross’ courtesy of SONY Music.
