Intro by: Gail NoblesPhoto: Wikipedia Public Domain  Hello I'm Gail Nobles.Welcome to the show. I Have Learned To Respect the Power of Love is a song that was written by Angela Winbush and Renée Moore, of the singing duo Renée and Angela.  It is a  song recorded and performed by Stephanie Mills and was the second single released from her 1985 self-titled album. The song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart, and remained number one for two weeks in May 1986. I Have Learned to Respect the Power of Love was Stephanie's 16th entry on the chart. The song was one of her most successful in the R&B soul markets. I love Stephanie Mills song about the power of love because I can detect something religious when she sings about love. I could also detect that there was also something religious about Never Knew Love Like This Before which was her first release in 1980. It was also a hit song by Stephanie Mills. Both songs were hits and successful.I'm Gail Nobles. Today's topic: Stephanie Mills - I've Learned To Respect the Power of Love

WutUpDoe? Just wanted to reminisce a lil bit of what I used to spin for Happy Hours from 6 pm until it was time to charge a cover for whatever club I was spinning back in the day, and I needed this type of music in my ride to vibe to when going outta town. My job back then was to keep folk at the bar, heads noddin' and a lil dancing in between. Last nights taping of the KDHX podcast Tangazo, was more than uplifting, it was encouraging, it was a reminder that black people doing great things, can also be selfless and magnanimous! ——— I felt refreshed after an hours conversation with writer, filmmaker and podcaster Nicole Franklin and Tom Bailey, Vice President of Development and Special Events, for the St. Louis Metropolitan Urban League. Tangazo.kdhx.org. Nicole, is the daughter the late Don Franklin, one of the founders of the GSLABJ and one of the first black journalist, employed by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. She shares the story of how her father an East St. Louis resident, approached the newspaper asking for more coverage of east side events, while noting the lack of people of color at the liberal leaning daily. Mr. Franklin who wasn't a journalist at that time, so impressed the newspaper that they provided a journalism fellowship, leading to his employment as one of the first African American journalist hired, by the St. Louis Post Dispatch Newspaper. ——— Nicole has used her pedigree well, winning numerous awards for documentaries, while working on the Today Show and OWN TV. Nicole, is also cohost of one of the most unique podcast I've ever listened to, tilted “Before You Go TV,” check it out and you too will love it. ——— Tom Bailey, founder and president of the Missouri Black Expo, which was one of the largest Black Expos in the nation from 1992-2013, says joining Michael Patrick McMillian and the St. Louis Metro Urban League, was an extension of his commitment to uplifting the African American community. Tom was a sales manager with KMOV tv, when a client of his inspired him to develop his idea of an expo, to provide resources for the underserved black communities in St. Louis. ——— Needless to say, the Black Expo was a smashing success with attendees gaining access to resources, in the areas of youth development, health education and community development. ——— As Vice President of Development and Special Events for the STL Urban League, Tom is responsible for managing all aspects of fundraising, for the 55 programs and services that are administered, to over one hundred and fifty thousand persons from low and middle income and underserved communities, in the St. Louis metro area. ——- Bailey was also instrumental in the development and implementation, of the Urban Leagues 2020 massive COVID-19 relief drive-thru food distribution, that served over 100,000 distressed clients with over 5 million dollars worth of food and health and personal safety equipment. ——— TheSt. Louis affiliate has become the number 1 Urban League in the nation. —— The St. Louis Metropolitan Urban League, will host its “Salute to Women in Leadership Gala,”September 9th, with special guest Angela Winbush, Melba Moore and Areva Martin! ——-

In the studio he has recorded vocals for Chavous, Sarah's Girl, Geneva Renee, Tye Tribbett, Jim Stephens, and Will Downing. In 2016, Ashley has released his debut single “Words.”  Ashley went back to his roots with the recording process of this song. “The song was written and composed by Alysha Ashley and I. She is from Kentucky and while composing this song I wanted to enhance the song with more lush arrangement and vocals, which is what you don't here in the music of today. With an ensemble of the best musicians and vocalists from the Philly area, we recorded the song in the Lab studios with engineer Craig White (formerly of Philadelphia International Records). We also had some additional production assistance from Will Downing which was an honor” Though the song is about being in love it is more about the interaction of a couple in the heat of a discussion. It encourages the listener to watch your “Words” and if you don't have an answer in that moment then it is ok to table it for another time.Ashley's latest single “Don't Throw Our Love Away” reached the #3 spot on the UK Soul Chart!!! To continue on the success of this song a remix, for all you that love house music, is scheduled for release in June. I can't wait!!I have known Ashley for some time now; and he is one of the coolest, honest, and genuine artists I know. Tune in to hear is journey! And Ladies like Patrice Rushen and Angela Winbush .. Not only had vocals to die for.. But were also producers, song writers and flat out musicians who were among the first and best fully contained female artists to write, record, arrange and produce their own music for major labels.. But as far as I am concerned.. They all along with Detroit's own Alicia Meyers .. gave us something we can need as much as we can breathe.. Some good Good Music that we can always groove too.. Join my conversation with Taylor Deneen. Taylor Deneen Christmon is a singer, songwriter, vocal arranger, and producer studying Professional Music and contemporary Writing/Production at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Although born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, don’t let the stereotypes fool you. Taylor’s signature sound comes from a variety of genres including contemporary R&B, neo-soul, funk, gospel, and jazz. Some of her main musical influences are Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, Erykah Badu, Whitney Houston, and Jill Scott. At just twenty years old, Taylor has performed in front of and worked with the likes of Grammy award-winning Missy Elliot, Chaka Khan, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dreion, and Epic Records’ very own Sylvia Rhone just to name a few. Taylor has also toured internationally and worked under the direction of award-winning musical director Rob Lewis, prominently known for his work with Christina Aguilera, Toni Braxton, and Brian McKnight. Taylor began singing both classical and contemporary music at the age of six and started composing music and playing instruments shortly afterward, performing in honor bands, choirs, churches, and music festivals across the U.S. By sixteen, the National YoungArts winner had already caught the attention of artists like Angela Winbush, Andra Day, and Eric Whitacre. At the age of seventeen, Taylor was on her way to Boston to further her music education after accepting a full scholarship from Berklee College of Music.Listen to Taylor Deneen’s latest singles “Ready” and Runin” now on Spotify: Ready – https://open.spotify.com/track/6KqjeUS6ws9YjHLiqSYyGu Runnin’ – https://open.spotify.com/track/3XIsTuRIPzdO6056D8qIlO Find out more about Taylor Deneen online:Website: https://www.taylordeneenmusic.com/                                                                                                                  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/taylordeneenmusic/                                                                                        Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/taylordeneenmusic/                                                                                           Twitter: https://twitter.com/itstaylordeneenTwitter                                                                                                                   YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNPhnjcq8Xm57HaIz3-5Qpg For more information and news, check out our website at BringBackSoulMusic.com.Support our channel by purchasing merch @ shop.bringbacksoulmusic.com COPYRIGHT © 2020 Bring Back Soul Music.

Stephanie Dorthea Mills[9][10] (born March 22, 1957)[1][11] is an American Grammy award–winning singer, songwriter and Broadway stage actress. Mills rose to stardom as "Dorothy" in the original Broadway run of the musical The Wiz from 1975 to 1977. The song "Home" from the show later became a Number 1 U.S. R&B hit for Mills and her signature song. During the 1980s, Mills scored five Number 1 R&B hits, including "Home", "I Have Learned to Respect the Power of Love", "I Feel Good All Over", "(You're Puttin') A Rush on Me" and "Something in the Way (You Make Me Feel)". Mills' won a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for her song "Never Knew Love Like This Before" in 1981. The Wiz (1975) and later success[edit]Mills's career took a rise when she portrayed Dorothy in the Broadway musical The Wiz, an African-American adaptation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Her song "Home" from the show would become her signature tune for years, and would be covered later by Diana Ross for the movie adaptation three years later. Commercial success in the music industry remained elusive until 1979, when she signed to the 20th Century Fox Records label. There, Mills found her niche in mainly disco music, recording songs such as "Put Your Body In It", "You Can Get Over", and "What Cha' Gonna Do With My Lovin'". The resulting album, What Cha' Gonna Do with My Lovin', was Mills's first gold record and the first major hit for the James Mtume-Reggie Lucas production team. She quickly followed the success with 1980's Sweet Sensation, which featured Mills's hit "Never Knew Love Like This Before". The single became a #12 R&B and #6 Pop hit in 1980, as well as reaching #4 in the UK Singles Chart.[13] 1981's Stephanie featured a top hit for her and Teddy Pendergrass entitled "Two Hearts", while her 1983 album, Merciless, featured her hit cover of Prince's "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore?", as well as the #3 dance chart hit "Pilot Error", which was her first dance hit in the U.S. In 1984, Mills had her third UK hit with "The Medicine Song" (#29),[13] which also reached #1 on the U.S. dance chart and #8 on the R&B chart. On May 24, 1984, Mills returned to theater to star in a short-lived touring revival of The Wiz. The production closed on June 3, after 13 performances and 7 previews.[citation needed] In 1985, Mills's recording of "Bit by Bit (Theme from Fletch)" was featured in the Chevy Chase film, Fletch, and reached #52 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and #78 on The Billboard Hot 100.[14]Success for Mills had peaked until 1986, when her version of the Angela Winbush-penned "I Have Learned to Respect the Power of Love", hit #1 on the R&B singles chart. Mills truly returned, however, with her next release, If I Were Your Woman in 1987 under MCA Records, which she was now signed. The hits from the album include the title track, originally a hit for Gladys Knight & the Pips in 1971; a three-week #1 R&B hit, "I Feel Good All Over" (a song her label mate Patti LaBelle did not wish to cover); and "You're Puttin' a Rush on Me", to name a few of the songs released. The album reached platinum status. That same year, she appeared in the NBC TV special, Motown: Merry Christmas along with other musical artists and actors, performing the song, "Christmas Everyday", which was written by actor/comedian Redd Foxx. Mills's success continued with 1989's Home album. The hits from that album include "The Comfort of a Man", the title track, a cover of her old standard from The Wiz and another song penned by Winbush titled "Something in the Way You Make Me Feel". It became another platinum record for Mills. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
