Housepedia Podcasts #HomeIsWhereHouseIsPlaying 163 I UC Beatz & WLDBTCH UC Beatz is a Brussels born and based DJ, producer and label owner. Trough the years, he made a name for himself in the House scene with his releases on his own EntrepÙt Records, as well as on highly respected international imprints such as Razor-N-Tape, Classic Music Company, K7! Records, 803 Crystal Grooves, to name a few. Last year saw the release of his first album which received a tremendous support from the public and so the physical copies were sold out in a week. On top of that his acclaimed Untitled Track 10-11 EP was repressed for the second time in a row due to an overwhelming demand. UC Beatz shows no sign of slowing down with new exciting releases and gigs scheduled for 2022. Wild (p)bitchian (*) madness by oldskool renegade of the Brussels underground scene. A hint of New York, a lot of címon , a Disco Crazy voice loop, a kick-drum that crashes the speakers like on a real vintage m*tha of a Chicago tune, a soothing bass-line straight from Kevinís (**) basement and there you got your homemade recipe for mayhem and mayday on the dance-floor.He released his first EP on Doctor Vinyl Records and a second released on EnrepÙt Records, with UC Beatz. Bside Incoming: Alinka For our 186th show we take a trip over the Atlantic ocean to Chicago and warmly invite Alinka to showcase some of her favoruite club equipt house and tech records. "There are at least a few people in this thing determined to keep House Music weird. Chicago's Alinka is one of them." – Terry Matthew, 5 Magazine. Alinka is the kind of DJ other DJs will tell you about. She has a unique power on the decks that comes from lifelong passion and time served, with a focused devotion to her first love – house music. Raised on Chicago's vibrant house sound with toes dipped into Detroit techno, Europe's more robust approaches to bass music and the myriad of genres coming from cities like Berlin, London, and Paris. Born in Kiev, Ukraine, Moving to Chicago in the late 80's, she fell head over heels for the chart sounds of Madonna and Janet Jackson. Then came house music from local radio shows where you could frequently hear tracks by Chicago legends like Cajmere and DJ Funk, and shows like Sonic Boom helped expose underground music to the masses. By the late ‘90s, music had taken over her life. Teenage Alinka immersed herself in the dance music scene, spending her summers pulling double shifts at a local pool and moonlighting for rave promoters to build up enough cash to buy decks. After a year of skipping class to relentlessly practice her mixing skills, she began her full-time musical pursuit. Working for various club promoters, doing odd jobs passing out flyers and helping with party logistics - anything just to get into clubs underage to see her favorite DJs - all while spending hours digging for tracks at Chicago's legendary record shop Gramaphone. In 2001, Justin Long recruited her to be the opening resident for his Dotbleep party at Smartbar where she honed her skills for the best part of a decade. In 2012, an impromptu meeting with former Hercules and Love Affair vocalist, Shaun J. Wright, changed her life forever. Their evolving friendship resulted in what would be the first of many musical collaborations. The pair launched their Twirl parties and label, continually striving to inspire each other both musically and spiritually; the result has been an impressive catalog of material for both of them collaboratively and individually on the likes of The Classic Music Company, Jackathon Jams, Crosstown Rebels, Leftroom, and of course Twirl, where as well as their own material the duo have welcomed renowned artists like Spencer Parker, Virginia, LA-4A, Kim Ann Foxman, and Jason Kendig onto the label. Recent years have seen Alinka really hit her stride as a producer with successful releases on world-renowned labels like Rekids, Crosstown Rebels, Need Want, Permanent Vacation, Harry Romero's Bambossa Records, He.She.They, and Peggy Gou's Gudu Records, which is forthcoming in 2024. She also turned out a standout collection of remixes for labels Me Me Me, Live At Robert Johnson, Lone Romantic, Keinemusik, Get Physical, and Pets Recordings. Now living in Berlin, Alinka has well and truly found her feet and inspiration. Alinka has used this base to throw down at parties across Europe from Berghain/Panorama Bar to Circoloco, with regular visits back to the US and Kyiv to play at stand out bars. Her evolution continues with the recent relaunch of her Twirl imprint, highlighted by the ‘Day Dreamer', ‘Sorry For Not Trending' and ‘Edgewater' EPs that finely balance Alinka's future-focused ethos, with an unmistakable, proud passion for her Chicago heritage. Check out just released Edgewater EP here! - https://alinka.lnk.to/TWIRL032 Enjoy the ride. How do you describe an artist like Austin Ato? A DJ's DJ, his productions are frequently supported by the world's best. Austin knows how to deliver behind the decks and carries that charm into the studio with his own music. With consistent outings on reputable house labels like Classic Music Company, Austin's output of music is consistent and most definitely for the dancefloor. Ahead of visiting Australian shores in June, Austin has given Thick As Thieves a taster of what to expect. “Can U Jack?” is a raw house weapon that can be played from the sweatiest of basements to the biggest of festivals. Tried and tested, “Can U Jack?” is a must have on the stick if you want to take the party to another level.

DJ Colette on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 8/10/22 About DJ Colette - DJ, producer, vocalist – Colette has grown from an integral part of the Chicago underground into a breakout musical triple-threat releasing her most accomplished and fully realized artistic statement to date. Combining the tunefulness of classic pop songs with the thump of classic house of her hometown, the album ventures into new sonic territory for Colette, from intimate bedroom beats to stadium-shaking dance anthems. When the Music's Loud is the sound of an artist at the peak of her powers. Always seeking to push boundaries and explore new territories, Chicago native DJ Colette, continues to discover ways to push her craft and career forward even after over two decades of leading the pack. A founding member of the pioneering DJ collective Superjane—along with DJ Heather, Lady D, and Dayhota—Colette has been an integral part of the Midwest underground since the birth of the 90s. Crafting events in Chicago—ones that would see most of Chicago's second generation of house music artists and DJs graduate to global scales—her Material events at the storied club Shelter in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood were seminal in the development of the house sound of Chicago's North Side, from the early 1990s on. Colette's groundbreaking combination of incorporating her live vocals over into DJ sets became her signature and a definitive technique that's won her fans from six continents. As a natural extension of her formative musical academia at Lane Tech College Prep, she began making recordings, with her first release appearing on 1995's “Moments of Epiphany” produced by Mazi & DJ Motion for Shroom Records. With an ever-increasing velocity of singles released for independent mainstays such as Icon Recordings, Moody Recordings, Nordic Trax, Brique Rouge, including Derrick Carter's seminal Classic Music Company, eventually led to recording two successful full-length efforts—2005's Hypnotized and 2007's Push—for San Franciso's legendary imprint OM Records. With multiple Dancestar Awards, commercial licenses, TV placements, and a Top #5 Billboard Hit, Colette was ready to make the next move in her career from not only just making records and playing them, but the upward motion to releasing them as well. Colette launched Candy Talk Records in June of 2010 as a platform for more creative control with her own music, their collaborations, and the choice and freedom to work with other record producers of whom she is a fan. Since then, Colette has personally released eight singles and two full-length efforts of her own work—2013's crowd-funded When The Music's Loud (named one of Vice's 99 greatest dance albums of all time) and 2017's Retrospective. Releasing remixed and original works from the likes of Gettoblaster, Sonny Fodera, Late Nite Alumni, Lawnchair Generals, Rubb Sound System, Scrubfish, WhiteNoize, Demarkus Lewis, Chuck Love, Golf Clap, Local Options, Change Request, and more she has created a home for other like-minded creators to have a platform for their work. With an ever-growing roster of musicians, producers, and DJs, 2019—thus far—has seen Candy Talk release East Coast production stalwart Pete Moss' mixes of Colette's “Dreams”, which peaked at #4 on the Traxsource Deep House Top 100. Establishing a remix series highlighting particular producers, Candy Talk has released two volumes in this series thus far with The Rubb Sound System Remixes (CTR015) and The Gettoblaster Remixes (CTR016), and The Demarkus Lewis Remixes (CTR018) featuring his reworks of "Call On Me", “Dreams”, and “We Feel So Hot” slated for the last quarter of 2019. Looking forward, the label anticipates celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2020 with a compilation centered around the best of the Candy Talk catalog—including some new tracks—(CTR019) in the first half of the new year. Upbeat Neo Vinyl, Swimming Downstream - Underground House, EP11 Hi I'm Pete Burquette, also known as Diplomatic Enjoy, and you are listening to the Underground House Funk n Techno podcast. The 1st song is by Session Victim called Never Forget on the Delusions of Grandeur label. I'll let the music take over the controls, back in a litte bit ”Never Forget” by Session Victim on Delusions of Grandeur ”Can't Die, Soul Singer…” by Diplomatic Enjoy ”Lovelee Dae (Original)” by Blaze on Classic Music Company ”Higher African Rhythms” by Diplomatic Enjoy Lovelee Dae is a total house classic - is this the best house song of all time? This is the original mix not remastered or anything like that. There're been many mixes of this song, but it basically the original can't be improved on - bar the odd snippet edit I've done here, which doesn't really count as anything. There's just something about the melancholic singing, which beautifully juxtaposes the strident house beat beneath. This is a real 6am song, the sun coming up, grab the morning paper and a big dirty baguette sandwich. The song before this was Can't Die, Soul Singer by Diplomatic Enjoy and yes that is moi. I starting doing DJ mixes to begin with (not just a love of music, and because I was finding so much cool music) but also to white label try out my own tracks to see if I got it right. 11th episode of this podcast, I finally got two that fit the bill. This white label approach is how pretty much all house n techno gets exercised, sitting amongst the classics seeing how it behaves. If anyone has any feedback on the podcast at all feel free to DM me at diplomaticenjoy on Instagram, let me know what you think. The next track is another white label, not out yet called, Higher African Rhythms but I could well change the name by the time I release it… ”Trespassers” by Newworldaquarium on Delsin ”Higher” by Black Loops on Neovinyl ”Fresh” by Daft Punk on Soma/Virgin This is of course Daft Punk from their legendary Homework album released on Soma and Virgin. Soma is the original Scottish label run by the lads from Slam, a techno duo. Before that was Higher by Black Loops on Neovinyl, a label who seem defunct at the moment. I say come back! I love the mastering that the Neovinyl guy Baldo does, he's done all the good Black Loops ones I M O. And before that again you heard another house classic Trespassers by Newworldaquarium, which brilliantly samples Sergio Mendes and the New Brasil 77 - "the Real thing". All these songs and songs like em are on the ever revolving "Underground House" playlist , I think I'm calling it "Underground House (black loops, moodymann, soul, funk" … a catchy name you're totally gonna remember. Not helped by the fact that I change the name all the time. It's the one with people at a festival on the cover. I think in order to be found through search on Spotify you need to be famous, but I completely forgot my famous badge on my tent. I'll go back and get it now ”Casa(Axel Boman Dub Mix)” by Dinky on Crosstown Rebels ”Not Seeing Is A Flower” by Lone on Ancient Astronauts ”Verloren” by Computer Data on Lost Palms (a sub label of Shall Not Fade) This is Verloren by Computer Data on Lost Palms label, which is a sub-label of Shall Not Fade. This in itself is a sub-label of Will Totally Shrink in the Wash. featuring I'm gonna have to lose some weight if I'm gonna fit into that again. Before that was Not Seeing a Flower by Lone on Ancient Astronauts. See the flower people, see the flower. Unless you're allergic to that kind of thing, in which case, avoid the flower completely. And before that was Axel Boman's Dub Mix of Dinky's Casa. That was released on Crosstown Rebels. I'm pretty sure that the vocal sample was that of everyone's favourite sketchy uncle, Timothy Leary, who consumed enough acid in his time to become his own planet and currently orbiting the sun at 55,000 miles an hour. ”Back in the Days” by Coeo on Toy Tonics ”Street Disco” by Lux Experience on Masterworks Music ”Wan Poku Moro(Onur Ozer Remix)” by 2000 And One on 100% Pure This is the Onur Ozer Remix of 2000 And One's "Wan Poku Moro" on 100% Pure. Before that was Street Disco by Lux Experience on Masterworks Music. Black Madonna made this song her own (I think it was a Boiler Room mix), although I notice no-one seems to mention the people who actually wrote the song originally, which was of course originally Disco Party in the Street by Mastermind. I love their edit here, it's simple but very effective. It's actually hard to tell the difference. Before that was Back in the Days by Coeo on Toy Tonics. And the final song coming up is Feeling Good by Laurent Garnier and Chambray on Rekids. ”Feelin' Good” by Laurent Garnier and Chambray on Rekids I just noticed I've never asked anyone to subscribe. I never quite understood the please subscribe thing. If people want to subscribe, they know how to do that, they don't need me telling them to press the button! I don't mind either way. As long as I don't know it's all good. Otherwise it's like leaving a dog in a car with the windows rolled up. Us podcast hosts need your attention, leave those windows rolled down so we can stick our heads out the window. Till next time people, have a beautiful day! Songs in this mix (or ones like them) can be found in the ”Underground House” playlist on Spotify, Youtube and Soundcloud Shenanigans: Underground House on Spotify Diplomatic Enjoy Instagram Soundcloud Youtube House PL
Pete Moss and Colette on the "Virtual Sessions" presented by The DJ Sessions 2/27/21 Pete and Colette talking about their collaboration album "THE DAYS" A Retrospective Part 1" and other things... About Pete Moss - Philadelphia based Pete Moss knows a thing or two about house music having traveled the world in search of the ultimate underground dance floors, and releasing over 150 projects on top labels such as, Ovum, Dessous, ALola, Definity, Large, Seamless, I records, MN2's, Acryl and dozens of others, including his own underground Recline imprint. Known as one of the finest late night/underground Dj's on the map, crushing it at Fabric London, La Terrazza Barcelona, Roxy Prague, Salon Daome Montreal, Harlot San Francisco, King King L.A, The Arches GLasgow, La Santanera PDC Mexico, Rioma Mexico City, Smartbar Chicago, Living Room Miami, among others, Pete has a reputation for giving his all at every gig and leaving people touched and inspired by his signature deep and eclectic sound. Candy Talk Records kicked off 2021 with its twenty-second release, featuring the first in a two part retrospective compilation "The Days", from label favorite, Philly's deep house aficionado, Pete Moss. This two-part retrospective compiled by label head Colette features some of Moss' most memorable moments, with many tracks originally only available in limited quantities. These hand chosen tracks have all been remastered for today's modern fidelity. Part one of this series features an eclectic collection of sounds and moods. From the dubbed out aesthetics of tracks like "So Sweet", "2012", and "All Ova the World", to the spaced out elemental disco-tinged "Turn U Back" and "Back in the Daze", this is just scraping the surface of this release's brilliance. Paring the sweet and subtle spatial delicacy of "Too Soon", "I See the Beauty", and his rework of "Dreams feat. Colette" with the emotive tracks like the deep and driving "Rain Day" or "Solutionz", this compilation is a true testament to the exploratory musical magic that has become a benchmark of the sound of Pete Moss. About Colette - Always seeking to push boundaries and explore new territories, Chicago native DJ Colette, continues to discover ways to push her craft and career forward even after over two decades of leading the pack. About "The DJ Sessions" - “The DJ Sessions" is a online/downloadable series featuring the hottest electronic music DJ's with live mixes and interviews, streamed live to a global audience. For all press inquiries regarding “The DJ Sessions”, or to schedule an interview with Darran Bruce, please contact us at info@thedjsessions.com Colette launched Candy Talk Records in June of 2010 as a platform for more creative control with her own music, their collaborations, and the choice and freedom to work with other record producers of whom she is a fan.

One thing that has been a constant throughout much of Luke's career is his and Derrick Carter's consistently excellent record label. What was formed from a mutual love of unique music has grown to become one of the most money in the bank imprints in the game and without Luke and Derrick at the controls we might not have been treated to the tracks that has truly helped shaped house music. In keeping with this finely curated musical ethos Luke has delivered an upfront slab of gourmet house music for the next edition of our podcast series…. Playfully bringing the deep grooves to the underground and the pumping house to the big rooms, Glasgow’s Austin Ato has seen his profile rise over the past two years. Initially releasing on the taste-maker Phonica's white-label imprint, showcasing a blend of live keys and drums with exquisite sampling, he then created a blazing 12” of loopy, disco and drum machine house for Man Power’s Me Me Me label. This immediately put him on our radar, and we've supported ever since. His music comes in many forms, be it afrohouse on Defected with "Oh Mama" or making some Detroit and Chicago influenced tunes for Luke Solomon's Classic Music Company with 'Drip' and 'Heat' from the EP named after the latter. His DJ sets have led him to play many of the best parties in the UK from Percolate with Daphne and Floating Points, to Horsemeat Disco and Karizma. Having evolved from the enigmatic Drums of Death, our man Ato has a diverse ear, and a knowledge of what makes a groove. He serves up an hour of eclectic ear food for us in the mix series, moving through multiple genres, but always with a rhythm which urges you to move. Welcome to the weekend once more... Since the inception of his solo career, Italian born Luca Cazal has achieved much in a short space of time. With an impressive discography across a variety of aliases, including the hugely successful Infinity Ink, Hot Natured and Luca C.& Brigante groups, he’s released via household names: Classic Music Company, Crosstown Rebels, Southern Fried to name a few. In the studio, Cazal draws from a deep well of inspirations that spans Electro, Dub and the classic house and Techno heritage of his homeland. Pair this with an unwavering obsession for hardware and flair for live performance to get a sense of the distinct personality captured in Cazal’s productions. An avid digger and record collector, whilst humble, driven and devoted to the craft, Cazal is completely at home during both peak time and long-form sets. As an international DJ, he makes regular stops at club culture’s most lionised spaces including Fabric, Club Der Visionnaire, Panorama Bar and of course Ibiza’s DC10 of which he’s been a longstanding resident for, now over seven years and counting. Constantly evolving, Cazal took first forays into label owning in 2014, first establishing Double Drop with long-term peer Brigante, followed by its See Double offshoot. Since launching both labels have offered material from bastions of the scene: Ivan Smagghe, The Mole, Boris Werner and more, across releases still championed amongst house and techno luminaries. Welcome Luca to the SlothBoogie Guestmix series... time to get Friday Jack'd. Artist: @lucacmusic

We've got a bit of NYC music royalty in the mix this week with @dfa-records mainstay @the-juan-maclean. We're chuffed to bits to have him take over the series with some jams that he dug out of his record collection especially so hit play and get struttin' into the weekend. If you're in need of a little update on all things JM then you'll be pleased to know he's had a couple of outings on DFA this year, as well as a tasty edit EP for the homies at Razor-N-Tape and some tracks for Classic Music Company. Then remix wise he's also been keeping busy with MANIK & CHVRCHES releases... still as busy as ever then! New Social Club T-shirts : https://www.slothboogie.com/shop/

Here's my 20 top tracks of 2017 all mixed together into almost two hours of disco-fuelled house music. It's been a fun year watching disco samples and funky bass lines creep into the mainstream and across all sorts of electronic music. Featuring some of favourite labels new and old: Regraded, Razor-N-Tape, Glitterbox, Cabin Fever, Z Records and Classic Music Company. And some of my favourite producers, Joey Negro, Luke Solomon, Mousse T, Dimitri From Paris and Folamour, who's had an amazing climb to fame this year. A few tune highlights: 'Must Be The Music' – I heard Joey Negro play this at Space in 2016 and had to wait almost a year to get my hands on this piece of modern disco at it's finest. 'Surrender' – Each and every release on the excellent Regraded label is standout and this is my favourite so far! 'Light You Up' – Luke Solomon delivers a perfect blend of disco funk and house. Been on constant repeat; my tune of year. Enjoy guys! *insert disco dancing emoji* 1. Nebraska – Drill Deep 2. Body Music – Just One 3. Phyllis Hyman – You Know How To Love Me (Joey Negro Disco Mix) 4. Moon Rocket, Re-Tide, Bel-Ami – Mosquito's Tweeter (Nyc Rmx) 5. Boris Dlugosch, Purple Disco Machine – Love for Days (Feat. But the idea remained the same, that we were sharing our discoveries with an audience.Fast forwarding a couple of years and expanding on the original concept, I will once again be playing dance music that you may or may not have heard, but this time said music will be readily available, if pointed in the right direction of course. In 2008 I started a series of radio shows with fellow Freak and host, Jonny Rock. The original format was based around vinyl. Digital started to creep in, then CD's, then YouTube rips, and so on. But the idea remained the same, that we were sharing our discoveries with an audience.Fast forwarding a couple of years and expanding on the original concept, I will once again be playing dance music that you may or may not have heard, but this time said music will be readily available, if pointed in the right direction of course. The idea is for you to use me as your selector slash shop assistant in a virtual record store. Not only will I be shouting about both old and new music, but I will also be following it up with a series of compilations to be released on my label, Classic throughout the year. I will be your slightly odd, slightly off-centre, guide. But ultimately and most importantly, your friendly on-line record shop assistant. Episode 93 of the Gangstercast series is brought to us by Mikey Velazquez aka Mikey V. Mikey is a DJ, producer and vocalist from Los Angeles, California, who has been a staple on the West Coast underground house scene since 2006. He is best known for throwing the infamous HAWT underground parties. In 2014 Mikey found himself focused mainly on original productions and vocal projects, with releases on Classic Music Company, Dirtybird, Snatch!, Great lakes Audio, Cajual Records and Salted Music. When we sat down with Mikey, we asked how the mix represented him as an artist, Mikey replied with “I like to keep things lively and fun with a blend of deep, jack, soul and tech.” Mikey went on to explain, what house music meant to him “House music is my life. It truly saved me so many times and shaped me into the person I am today. I knew a long time ago this was for me, regardless of my place in it. When you know, you know. It’s more than just the music it’s the way of life.” We then asked Mikey what the House Gangster movement meant to him, he responded with, “It’s a game changer. I love how it stays true to that proper, raw underground sound that a lot of people maybe haven’t been exposed too, that’s so important. It’s been crazy awesome seeing it grow so much over the years, and I think it’s just the beginning.”
