Wolfgang Flür was born in Frankfurt in 1947 but moved to Düsseldorf in the early ‘50s, which has been home ever since. As a young man he played in the band The Sprits Of Sound, and studied to be an architect, hoping to get into interior design. Wolfgang joined Kraftwerk in 1973 and plays on one of the most remarkable album runs in pop music history; “Autobahn”, “Radioactivity”, “Trans Europe Express”, “The Man Machine”, and “Computer World”. He left the band in the mid-80's and his relationship with his former bandleader Ralf Hütter has been somewhat acrimonious over the past few decades. Wolfgang has just released a new record entitled “Times”, which you'll hear clips from during our conversation. The album features collaborations from Peter Hook (formally of Joy Division and New Order of course), and Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter. The day before the interview I was informed that Wolfgang's musical partner Peter Duggal would be sitting in on the call too. Peter is a musician and producer based in Hebden Bridge, and is very amenable company. This was a fun chat. Wolfgang is really funny and interesting. It probably goes without saying that I absolutely love Kraftwerk, and although I sensed it would not be wise to focus on them too much, it's still a thrill to have them represented on the podcast.   Instagram: @sendingsignalspodcast

Exploring a subset of electronic music made in France from the years 1996 to 2004.It's the latest episode in the Niall explains a dance music genre to Andrea series.What is French Touch? For some it means house music of French origin of the '90s and 2000s. For me, it's more defined.French Touch is more of a subgenre almost exclusively made by French producers - French dance music rooted in samples of old disco records where strings, bass and vocals were rerouted through a Chicago house music 4/4 beat and given a retro futuristic sheen with shiny synthesisers and a compressed cosmic atmosphere. On September 9th, 1999 (or 9-9-99), Thomas Bangalter and and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo became robots. After a night of working on a track, their sampler crashed and exploded. After some quick surgery to treat their injuries, they came out as robots. "Random Access Memories" ist das erfolgreichste Album des französischen Elektro-Popduos Daft Punk. Auf dem Album ist auch der größte Hit der Band "Get Lucky". Für Daft Punk war ihr Album "Random Access Memories" ein unglaublich riesiges Projekt. Rund vier Jahre hat die Produktion des Albums gedauert. Auch finanziell war "Random Access Memories" ein großes Projekt. Mehr als eine Million Euro haben die beiden Bandmitglieder aus ihrem Privatvermögen in die Platte gesteckt. Geld und Zeit, die sich definitiv gelohnt haben. Das Album ist die meistverkaufte Platte der Band, für die die beiden Musiker viele Stars wie Pharell Williams, Chilly Gonzales und auch Nile Rodgers gewinnen konnten. Neben den Fans hat das Album auch die Fachpresse überzeugt und "Random Access Memories" wurde bei der Grammy-Verleihung 2014 mit fünf Trophäen belohnt. Unter anderem als bestes "Popduo" und auch für das "Album des Jahres". SWR1 Meilensteine Gast Sascha Simnovec ist Musiklehrer, Fan und Experte für elektronische Musik. Für ihn ist "Random Access Memories" das beste Album des vergangenen Jahrzehnts, erklärt er im SWR1 Meilensteine Podcast. Auf dem Album machen Daft Punk eine musikalische Reise durch die europäische und amerikanische Tanzmusik der 70er und 80er Jahre. Und die können sie dank Gästen wie Nile Rodgers auch sehr authentisch wiedergeben, aber auch weiterentwickeln. Ein Erkennungsmerkmal von Daft Punk waren sicherlich ihre glänzenden, futuristischen Helme, durch die die Musiker zumindest den Fokus von ihren eigentlichen Personen ablenken konnten. Trotzdem gibt es natürlich einiges, was man zur Hintergrundgeschichte der beiden französischen Musiker Thomas Bangalter und Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo sagen kann. Die beiden kommen aus zwei gut betuchten, erfolgreichen Künstlerfamilien und sind schon früh mit dem Beruf des Musikers und des Produzenten in Berührung gekommen und musikalisch gefördert worden sind. Dass die beiden Musiker geworden sind war sozusagen unumgänglich. Bevor Guy-Manuel und Thomas sich der elektronischen Popmusik zugewendet haben und 1993 die Gruppe Daft Punk gründeten, waren sie beide Mitglieder der französischen Rockband Darlin'. Trotz oder gerade wegen des unglaublichen Erfolgs trennte sich das Duo 2021. In einem Interview mit der BBC erklärte Thomas Bangalter, dass sie alles erreicht hatten, was sie wollten und es dadurch keine kreative Notwendigkeit mehr gab, gemeinsam Musik zu machen. Aujourd'hui, je reçois Angelin Preljocaj. Angelin ne cesse de renouveler son désir pour la danse, en créant sans relâche depuis 25 ans pour sa troupe du Pavillon Noir mais aussi pour des ballets du monde entier. Il a chorégraphié et scénographié plus de cinquante pièces bâtissant ainsi un patrimoine chorégraphique. On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we have a pair of French electronic music pioneers who recently teamed up alongside a DJ who's been responsible for some of the most exciting production of the past 20+ years: Braxe and Falcon with A-Trak. Alan Braxe and his cousin Stephane Quem—aka DJ Falcon—are legends of French house music going back decades: Braxe was one-third of the trio Stardust alongside Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter. They famously released just one song in 1998 before splitting up, but “Music Sounds Better With You” is a classic of the genre. Falcon's biggest claim to fame might also be Daft Punk adjacent: He co-wrote and co-produced their song “Contact,” from 2013's Random Access Memories. And though they've obviously been acquainted forever, Braxe and Falcon only recently came together for a project, and it's pretty amazing. Their debut EP, Step By Step, includes a killer title track with an appearance by Panda Bear. Braxe and Falcon will make their live debut in November with two U.S. shows, one in New York and another in L.A. Check out “Step by Step” right here. That EP also features a remix by Braxe and Falcon's old friend DJ A-Trak, a superstar of the electronic world whose resume makes me feel very lazy. As a young guy, he was a championship-level turntablist in his native Canada, which led to a years-long role on stage with Kanye West. His career continued as a headlining DJ and producer in his own right: He's known both for creating his own sounds and remixing big names. He also runs the vaunted Fool's Gold label and collaborates with lots of other folks, including Armand Van Helden in Duck Sauce. A-Track's latest project is a collaborative album with elusive hip-hop icon Cam'ron called U Wasn't There, which comes out September 23. Check out “All I Really Wanted” from that upcoming record. In this chat, Braxe, Falcon, and A-Trak talk about the sonic intersections of house music and old-school hip-hop, they discuss the ups and downs of the forced Covid break, and there's a lot of gear talk—which is a whole different thing when you're talking about samplers and keyboards instead of guitars and pedals.
