The Bowhunter Chronicles Podcast - Episode 349 - Bridging the Gap: Hunters and Management Policies In this episode, Adam  discusses the complexities of deer management in Michigan with guests Josh Arbogast and Jordan Hoover. They explore the challenges faced by hunters and the Natural Resources Commission (NRC) in managing deer populations, the importance of accurate data reporting, and the role of community engagement in shaping hunting regulations. The conversation highlights the division among hunters, the impact of social media, and the biological implications of current deer management policies. In this conversation, the speakers discuss the challenges and responsibilities faced by sportsmen in Michigan regarding conservation and wildlife management. They emphasize the importance of navigating bureaucratic processes, the legacy of conservation, and the need for active engagement in decision-making. The discussion highlights the significance of presence in meetings, the role of legal challenges, and the responsibility of sportsmen to advocate for their interests. The speakers encourage listeners to participate in upcoming Natural Resources Commission meetings and to take an active role in stewardship.Takeaways There's a significant division among hunters regarding deer management. Visual representation of data can help bridge communication gaps. Accurate reporting of deer harvest is crucial for effective management. The UP Deer Advisory Team plays a vital role in addressing deer issues. Community engagement is essential for changing perceptions about deer management. Biological health of the deer herd is impacted by current policies. The deer population dynamics in the UP are complex and require careful management. Old management policies may no longer be effective in today's context. Hunters need to adapt to changing conditions and data. The DNR relies on hunters to help manage deer populations effectively. The bureaucracy in conservation must be just and fair. Engagement in the decision-making process is crucial for sportsmen. Stewardship goes beyond financial contributions; it requires active participation. Awareness of the challenges faced by the hunting community is essential. Complacency has led to a decline in advocacy for conservation. Presence in meetings can influence decisions and represent sportsmen's interests. Education and outreach are vital for increasing awareness in the hunting community. Legal challenges can be costly and may not always benefit the cause. Building a community of engaged sportsmen is necessary for effective advocacy. Personal stories can be powerful in influencing decision-makers. https://www.paintedarrow.com - BHC15 for 15% off https://www.spartanforge.ai (https://www.spartanforge.ai/)  - save 25% with code bowhunter   https://www.latitudeoutdoors.com (https://www.latitudeoutdoors.com/) s https://www.zingerfletches.com (https://www.zingerfletches.com/) https://huntworthgear.com/ https://www.lucky-buck.com (https://www.lucky-buck.com/) https://www.bigshottargets.com (https://www.bigshottargets.com/)   https://genesis3dprinting.com (https://genesis3dprinting.com/) https://vitalizeseed.com (https://vitalizeseed.com/) https://waypointtv.com/#podcast  If you like what we are doing and want to see more, please consider checking out our Patreon account. Any funds generated through our Patreon account are funneled right back into the podcast to help fund equipment, hosting fees and gear for reviews and giveaways and as always future hunts.  http://bit.ly/BHCPatreon http://bit.ly/BowhunterChroniclesPodcas https://huntworthgear.com/?utm_source=Pro+Staff&utm_medium=Direct+Link&utm_campaign=Preseason+Sale Learn more about your ad choices. So this episode started with a Reddit post about a guy who thinks his poop smells like his patients' poop... and I wish I could say it gets less weird from there, but no—it really doesn't. Kristin and I spiral into the science (and total lack of science) behind smell memory, hospital food, and whether we're all just walking around slowly absorbing our work environments. Spoiler: if you're in ophthalmology, congrats—you're mostly scent-neutral. Unless you've ever used a slit lamp on someone mid-GI crisis. I also revisit 30 Days of Healthcare and question a few of my creative choices (including a weird little sketch about fixing healthcare with just vibes and prior auths). And because I clearly haven't suffered enough, we open up the brand new First Aid for Step 1 (2025 edition) and test how much I remember from med school. It's… not great. Takeaways: There's a Reddit post you can't unread—and now we all have Deja P. We may be slowly absorbing our patients… through scent. Kristin puts Will's med school knowledge to the test. It does not go well. Sneeze guards: good for spit, better for smell trauma. We're trying to make medical education funny again. Starting with capitation. Many companies are struggling with the logistics of bringing employees back. The culture argument for returning to the office is often unfounded. Remote work has shown to be as productive, if not more so, than in-person work. Contact centers have been slower to adopt remote work models compared to other industries. Companies should leverage the opportunity to build stronger teams when employees are in the office. Effective communication tools are essential for maintaining productivity in contact centers. How do we support left-handed children in a predominantly right-handed world? Mark Stewart, founder of Left n Write Ltd, shares his journey and insights on the unique challenges faced by left-handed individuals, particularly in educational settings. With over 1 million left-handed children in schools across England, Mark emphasizes the lack of awareness and training for educators on how to assist these students effectively. Mark started his small business about 30 years ago as a result of trying to find left-handed scissors for his youngest son when he was 4. Mark's wife Heather had no training in helping left-handed children during her Teacher Training so they started to campaign with their left-handed MP, Peter Luff, to change the Education system to be proactive rather than passive. They had meetings with Ministers, questions and a 30 minute adjournment debate in the House of Commons, produced a training video in 1999 (now downloadable/interactive and was updated last year) as well as writing an information/activity book titled "So You Think They're Left Handed?" and 3 books titled "Left Hand Writing Skills". We have also produced other resources specifically for left-handed children in education. Over the years I have run over 200 training workshops. In 2021 Mark co founded and is co-chair of a global group called "LEFT-IN" Left-Handers Education Forum and Training International Network (left-in.org) with the aim to improve the information and education available to the educators of left-handed children around the world.Takeaways: There are over 1 million left-handed children in schools in England, yet teacher training lacks essential support for them. Simple adjustments, like seating arrangements in classrooms, significantly benefit left-handed children and their right-handed peers. Left-handed children face unique challenges in a right-handed world, emphasizing the need for awareness and adjustments. The lack of data on left-handed children in education hinders understanding their needs and potential challenges. Mark Stewart encourages parents to advocate for left-handed children in schools to ensure they receive adequate support. The discussion shifts to the phenomenon of the 'red mirage' in voting trends, particularly among black voters, and the implications of misogyny and disinformation in the political landscape. The hosts and guests analyze the impact of abortion bans and legislative actions in Florida, particularly focusing on Amendment 3 and the Democratic Party's strategy in the state. You can also read my article on Substack Here. Takeaways There was significant anxiety surrounding the election results. Different networks provided conflicting coverage of the election. The 'red mirage' phenomenon was evident in voting trends. 22% of black men voted for Donald Trump, raising concerns. Disinformation played a crucial role in shaping public perception. Governor DeSantis spent millions to oppose abortion amendments. The First Amendment was highlighted in the context of political opposition. Women in Florida face severe restrictions on reproductive rights. The Democratic Party's strategy in Florida was criticized as ineffective. Local engagement is essential for political success in Florida. Voter sentiment can shift unexpectedly, as seen in the recent election. Political messaging needs to resonate with everyday voters. Legal challenges against Trump may have significant implications for his presidency. The history of cannabis legislation is fraught with misinformation and stigma. Media plays a crucial role in shaping public perception of cannabis. The recent failure of cannabis legalization efforts indicates a potential limit to public support. Voter engagement is often influenced by immediate economic concerns like inflation. Democrats need to adopt more aggressive strategies to win elections. The impact of past drug laws continues to affect lives today. Future political landscapes will require new strategies and approaches.

On 15 October 2023, Poland held parliamentary elections which signaled the end of the eight years in power of the right-wing conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party. In December, the PiS-led government was replaced by a liberal, opposition-led coalition. Media freedom, and in particular the situation at Poland's public service media, was one of the first issues tackled by the new government within days of taking office, as the cabinet led by Donald Tusk immediately sought to wrestle control of public media away from the outgoing PiS-led coalition. This included public television (TVP), Polish Radio as well as Poland's national news agency PAP. One of the first acts of the new government was to change the leadership of the public media by adopting a parliamentary resolution which declared the situation at public media as illegitimate and unconstitutional before calling on the authorities to take immediate action to restore the constitutional order and the “independence, objectivity and pluralism” of public media. In response, the minister of culture intervened  by replacing the members of the supervisory boards and senior management of the TVP, Polish Radio and PAP. In doing so the government by-passed the National Media Council (NMC) set up in 2016 by PiS to nominate senior PSM management and supervisors. This led to three weeks of protests led by PiS politicians and some TVP staff on the premises of Telewizia Polska and a political standoff between the government and Poland's President, Andrzej Duda, who tried to block the changes by rejecting the 2024 budget for the public media. Without funding the situation quickly became untenable and the then Minister of Culture,  Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz, placed the public media into a state of liquidation, a legal status for entities without sufficient funds to operate, which enabled the ministry to continue to finance the PSM directly until new reforms can be agreed. Nearly one year later, the legal uncertainty persists with public service media staff forced to work in a form of legal limbo without the security of guaranteed financing nor a management that has been appointed through an independent and transparent process. Summary: In this podcast episode, host Karol Łuczka speaks with Kamila Ceran, the editor-in-chief of Radio TOK FM, and with Robert Kwiatkowski, a member of the National Media Council in Poland, about the current state of public media in Poland. Łuczka, Ceran and Kwiatkowski discuss the significant changes in media freedom following the recent government transition, the ongoing political influence on public media, and the challenges of achieving true media independence. Ceran shares her insights on the politicization of media, the implications of funding, and the lack of shining examples of independent public media globally. Kwiatkowski shares insights on the role of the National Media Council and the future vision for public media, emphasizing the need for legal clarity and independence from political influence. The conversation concludes with reflections on the future of media in Poland and the complexities surrounding public funding. Takeaways: There is an improvement in quality of reporting and objectivity. Public media in Poland has faced significant politicization. The future of public media depends on upcoming presidential elections. Media independence has been a challenge for decades in Poland. The financing of public media is crucial for stability. Legal reforms are necessary for media independence. The situation of public media in Poland has dramatically changed since the government transition. Funding for public media is often controlled by politicians, affecting independence. The media landscape in Poland is challenging, with limited options for unbiased reporting. Public media do not fulfill their intended role of unbiased information dissemination. There is no clear solution for ensuring media independence in Poland.   Guests: Kamila Ceran, editor-in-chief of TOK FM and Robert Kwiatkowski, member of Poland's National Media Council Producer and Host: Karol Łuczka, Eastern Europe Monitoring and Advocacy Officer at International Press Institute (IPI) Editor: Javier Luque, head of digital communications at IPI Other episodes in this series: MFRR Podcast: Navigating Hungary's new Sovereignty Protection Act Related links: More ambitious reform needed to secure media freedom in Poland MFRR In Focus: How will the takeover of Polska Press in Poland impact the upcoming election?

The conversation emphasizes the need to align money with values and goals to maximize happiness in retirement.  Takeaways There is a strong connection between health behaviors and money behaviors, as both involve making decisions to defer gratification and invest in a better future. Retirement income planning should involve considering both spending and legacy goals, and giving oneself the agency to choose how much of their savings to spend and how much to pass on to others. It is important to recognize and accept our own mortality when planning for retirement, and to design a plan that allows us to spend the money we've saved for the purpose of enjoying a better lifestyle. Retirement should be viewed as an opportunity to bring forward the ability to give money to loved ones and causes we care about, rather than waiting until the end of life. Spending money in retirement can bring more happiness and satisfaction than simply accumulating wealth, and it is important to prioritize experiences and social interactions that provide joy. Designing a retirement plan should involve envisioning the future and creating a financial structure that supports the desired lifestyle, rather than solely focusing on numbers and spreadsheets. Mindset and positivity play a crucial role in retirement planning. Health and financial behaviors are correlated among retirees, and positivity drives savings behavior. Annuities provide a license to spend and allow retirees to spend more from income than from assets. Aligning money with values and goals can lead to greater happiness in retirement. Sound Bites "What is wealth? Wealth is a store of future spending. It is a store of future happiness." "The goal is lifestyle. That's why you save the money in the first place. Let's design a structure so that you can have the lifestyle that you want to live." "Recognize that you had a choice and your choice was: Do I want to spend the money that I've saved that I've sacrificed to be able to build or am I going to be happier passing it on to someone else?" "How we view retirement and how positive we are about our years going forward is going to shape the way we want to spend our money." "People who think that life is going to be more pleasurable in their 80s are more motivated to ensure that they still have income in their 80s." "Annuities give you the ability to spend more every year and never feel bad about it." In this conversation, Bronson, Steve, and Mark Turner discuss the relationship between doe body weight and buck antler size. Mark's research at the University of Tennessee aimed to evaluate how deer body and antler size varied across the eastern US and what habitat characteristics were associated with bigger deer. The results showed a consistent relationship between doe body weight and buck antler size, with an 8.5-inch increase in antler size for every 10-pound increase in doe body mass. This relationship provides a predictive equation that can help property managers and hunters assess and improve buck antler size by focusing on increasing doe body weight. The conversation also includes topics like harvest bias, compositional bias, and monitoring techniques. Also, be sure to visit our YouTube channel (here) Takeaways: There is a consistent relationship between doe body weight and adult buck antler size, with an 8.5-inch increase in antler size for every 10-pound increase in doe body weight. Increasing doe body weight can lead to larger buck antler size, providing a predictive equation for property managers and hunters to assess and improve antler size. Harvest bias and compositional bias can affect the accuracy of data collected on deer populations, and monitoring techniques should account for these biases. Understanding the relationship between doe body weight and buck antler size can help property managers and hunters make informed decisions about deer management and habitat improvement. Further research is needed to explore the variation in doe body weight and antler size across different regions and climates. Sound Bites: "If you can produce 120-inch does, your average mature male is gonna be 139 inches." "When you give them food and manage the habitat, doe body weights respond, bucks respond, antlers respond." "If you're not seeing the size of deer that you think you should be seeing, it may be that pulling the trigger is the issue."

SUMARRY In this conversation, Jeremy and Andrew discuss two schools of thought when it comes to teaching forms in martial arts. The first school of thought is teaching forms in a set order, where students learn one form after another in a predetermined sequence. The second school of thought is a rotating curriculum, where students focus on one form for a certain period of time before moving on to the next form. They explore the pros and cons of each approach and discuss the challenges of managing different levels of students in a class. TAKEAWAYS * There are two schools of thought when it comes to teaching forms in martial arts: a set order and a rotating curriculum. * A set order approach involves teaching forms in a predetermined sequence, while a rotating curriculum focuses on one form for a certain period of time before moving on to the next. * The set order approach ensures that students learn forms in a progressive manner, starting with easier forms and gradually progressing to more complex ones. * The rotating curriculum approach allows students to develop a deeper understanding and proficiency in a specific form by focusing on it for an extended period of time. * Managing different levels of students in a class can be challenging, especially when teaching forms. It requires finding a balance between meeting the needs of individual students and maintaining a cohesive class structure.

Meta Ads are paid ads that you run on Facebook or Instagram. If you are like me, you probably don't have a ton of time for active lead generation and Meta Ads can do the work for you. You should be generating leads daily and if you aren't, you can't scale your business. Meta Ads allow you to accomplish this goal, by getting in front of an audience that you otherwise might not have organically. TAKEAWAYS:There are three components of Meta Ads and the creative part is really important because it's the most obvious thing people see. Your goal is to stop someone's scroll, so be strategic about what video or image you put with your ad. Use different types of ad strategies. I always have 3 different types of ads running: A warm audience, a warm-ish audience, and a cold audience. People get stuck in this idea that Meta Ads have to be to a cold audience, but you can send them to your warm audience as well. Don't be afraid to start investing in ads. If you are thinking about running Meta Ads, you are going to put in money up front. But you will see that money come back to you if and when your email funnel starts selling.RESOURCES:Check out the blog post that goes along with this episode for additional resourcesGet a seat in the upcoming Sell on Autopilot MasterclassCheck out Pitch PerfectCONNECT WITH ALLISON:Follow Allison on InstagramDID YOU HAVE AN 'AH-HA MOMENT' WHILE LISTENING TO THIS EPISODE?If you found value and are ready to take action from listening to this episode, head to Apple Podcasts and help us reach new audiences by giving the podcast a rating and a review. This podcast explores the answer to that question. They discuss the role of the Holy Spirit in the Old and New Testaments, the concept of worthiness in Mormonism, and the differences between capital P prophets and lowercase p prophets. They emphasize that every believer now has the Holy Spirit and that the Bible is God's authoritative Word. They also talk about the closed canon and the importance of testing everything against God's Word. Takeaways: There are two different types of prophets: a capital “P” prophet who speaks authoritatively for God, and a lowercase “p” prophet who speaks what God has already spoken. The canon of Scripture is closed, meaning that God is not going to speak authoritatively through prophets anymore. The Bible is God's authoritative word and does not need to be supplemented with new revelation from prophets. The gift of prophecy in the local church is about reminding people of what God has already spoken, not bringing new revelation.Believers should test everything against God's Word and hold on to what is good.--The Unveiling Mormonism podcast pulls back the curtain on Mormon history, culture and doctrine. An educator goes beyond the system and focuses on the individual, while a teacher perpetuates the system.   The DNA traits of a great educator include genuinely loving people, seeing patterns, and being curious.   The current education system is not designed for human development and lacks real-life preparation.   Parents play a crucial role in education and should strive to be continuous learners themselves.   It is important for parents to make an effort to opt out of the current education system and seek alternative educational systems that align with their values and goals.   Modeling behavior and personal responsibility are key in education and life   Check out today's sponsor - Magnesium Breaktrhrough by Bioptimizers - https://bioptimizers.com/frankrich - (Use code rich10 for 10% off your order)     -- Connect with Matt: Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/mattbeaudreau/   Apogee Strong Online - https://apogeestrong.com/welcome-1030     Connect with Frank and The Super Human Life on Social Media: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coachfrankrich/   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/584284948647477/   Website: http://www.thesuperhumanlifepodcast.com/tshlhome   YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjB4UrpxtNO2AFtDURMzo

SUMMARY In this episode, Jeremy and Andrew discuss the topic of whether martial arts rank testing should be scheduled or a surprise. They explore the benefits and downsides of both approaches and share their personal experiences. They also touch on the differences in rank testing between traditional martial arts schools and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The main takeaway is that each school should do what works best for their students and goals. TAKEAWAYS There are benefits to both scheduled and surprise rank testing in martial arts. Scheduled testing allows students to set goals and prepare in advance, while surprise testing simulates real-world situations. Surprise testing may lack the community aspect and support from family and friends that scheduled testing provides. It is important for each school to determine what approach works best for their students and maintain consistency.
